Pelosi: Dems not in crisis

From NBC's Betsy Cline
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said today the American people ought to know more about what she called "total obstruction" by the Republican Party in the Senate. Referring to Sen. Jim Bunning's hold-up of unemployment benefits earlier this week, Pelosi said, "It's not about rules, it's about a decision they've made to obstruct."

"The idea you need 100 percent in order to proceed is something the American people should know more about," she said.

In her weekly briefing on Capitol Hill, Pelosi seemed encouraged about passing health reform: "Our members are very excited about what comes next," but she cautioned, "Every legislative vote is a heavy lift around here, assume nothing."

Pelosi was also asked if the Democratic Party was in crisis, to which she responded, "I feel strong. We were very effective in passing the Obama agenda in 2009," but she said, "When you're effective, you're a target.

We all know more than a few people who were always in a crisis it seems.

"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

"Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship"; "Here's looking at you kid"; "Round up the usual suspects"; "The Germans Wore Gray, You Wore Blue"; " "I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here"; "You played it for her, you can play it for me. If she can stand it, so can I";  "Of All The Gin Joints...."

"I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse."

"Fasten your seatbelts, it's going to be a bumpy night."

"Oh, Blanche, did ya know we have rats in the cellar?"

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."

"A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti."

"I am big! It's the pictures that got small."

"Do you know what they call a quarter pounder with cheese in France?"

"You talkin' to me?"

"You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."

"Gimme a whiskey with ginger ale on the side and don't be stingy, baby."

"I must have killed more men than Cecil B. De Mille."

"Hello gorgeous."

"In a demanding profession, she has made her own demands - fighting a historic battle with the studio for the right to have roles of substance and challenge, and, by her stand, making the battle easier for those who came after her."… AFI.

She was the first to be nominated for 10 Academy Awards. She was the first woman to receive the AFI Life Achievement Award in 1977, after John Ford, James Cagney, Orson Welles and William Wyler. Here is a clip from the end of that evening as the industry pays tribute to Miss Bette Davis. As you can see, the admiration and respect she received from all those who either worked with or loved her work, is quite evident as she makes her way to the stage.

Whenever you have to tell somebody you are not in  crisis, you ARE in crisis. Just like Obama having to tell business leaders he was not a socialist only proved he was one.

My, my. First Obama has to stand in front of business leaders and say "I am not a socialist", and today Pelosi has to say the Democratic party isn't crumbling.

Both statements of course are false.

Next Harry Reid will have to say he's not mentally challenged. That one is false too.

Thank you Madamn Speaker for seting the record stright!

Thanks Gingerbread Mamma

They did their job, they represented the people, and it was all thrown away by the party leaders like Obama and Pelosi who don't listen to anyone, and don't much care what anyone but themselves think about anything.

Oh spare me this faux BS would ya? It's difficult for "anyone" to govern under the circumstances of our present economy. Does this translates into "full-power" for your "party" is the question that should be foremost on your mind.

We are aware of what the Republicans are doing in Washington. The next election cycle is going to be very interesting.

Gotta take a lunch break gang! Be back!

Pelosi said, "It's not about rules"

Thats right, for the Dems it is NOT about the rules...lie, cheat and bribe...business as usual and the American People will look the other way, right?

seems like it from the Dem apologists.

Pelosi "I feel strong. We were very effective in passing the Obama agenda in 2009,"

Uhh wasn't HCR all they did last year?

Umm, Ms. Pelosi, it is about the rules, the PayGo rules you passed several weeks ago.

This woman sure forgets things quick.

Yes, blame the Republicans. Seems to be the only thing left that the Democrats have to lean on. What, Nancy has an 80 vote majority of Democrats in the House, and she can't pass her little health care bill? What's the problem Nancy? Kind of looks like your leadership is the issue more than it's a problem with the GOP.

Yeah, the Obama agenda, sure. Just where are those jobs Nancy, and just where is out $800 billion dollars you spent on them?

Some excruciatingly painful and sad news on the front page of the Des Moines Register today:  it seems Wellmark's CEO had to suffer through a 4% reduction in his pay from the year before…… To $2.4 MILLION!  So sad.  Hey- maybe Fairfax Bill can send him a special care package to help eas the pain.

"So, if you think you can call Eric a racist for telling the truth, I can call you ignorant of the very state you claim to live in.

Plano, for the masses, is an upper scale neighborhood North of Dallas, and it's no wonder he doesn't see racism (which is why I called him ignorant and not stupid) as he is probably sheltered from all the "undesirables"."

Saint Dick, Dallas, TX

Hey Saint Dick - thanks for giving us all a clear picture of what kind of neighborhood Mark comes from.  You have truly chosen an appropriate appellation as you prove that there is always an exception to the rule.  Sad that there aren't more true "Saints" in texas like you, hopefully one day.  Hopefully Mark and his ilk will become the new undersirables as they've certainly proven that they are.

Nancy Pelosi is the HEART AND SOUL of the Democratic Party

That's why all the Little Tea Party Mad Hatters fear her

Kind of scary for little Repos to see a strong woman

RAM HCR DOWN THEIR THROATS, Nancy

Compare her to Rahm Emmanuel who seems to be writing a book entitled 'If only they'd Listened to Me'

He helped screw up HCR BIG TIME, now he's trying to escape responsibility for it

He blackballed Howard Dean while he was at it

An ex-Clintonista, huh ?

Pelosi has a point. When you try to do something you are subject to all kinds of criticism. When you do nothing there is not much to criticize except the fact you are doing nothing.

The Dems and Obama have been under constant criticism for trying to get some things accomplished whereas we know the only criticism the Republicans have been under is for their habit of wanting to do nothing.

In business, if you want to succeeed, you do something even if what you do needs to be adjusted. In this regard the Republicans would be fired for their lack of creativity, activity and performance. Republicans also lack a sense of urgency. We all know that without a sense of urgency your chances of being successful are almost nil.

I love Nancy Pelosi - a true warrior! To the Republicants, she's the new Hillary Clinton! I remember how the Reps used to dump on Hillary. Now that she's not a direct political opponent, they all seem to love her. Just goes to show that when the Reps focus on disperaging someone, it's all political hypocrisy!

Back on Healthcare reform, I think the republicants are scared silly that a bill may be passed. They all go on TV and scream gloom and doom for the Dems if HCR passes. If the Republicants really believe that, why don't they just stay on the sidelines with their NO, NO, NO... and wait for the Dems to meet their demise with this reform. Mitch McConnell even went to the point of warning that if the Dems pass the bill, then all future GOP campaign ads will use that as the issue. I think he's trying a little too hard if you asked me. I sense real fear among the GOP!

To those Dems who are skittish about the current HCR polls, all I have to say is remember the Iraq war? Polls showed ovewhelming support for the invasion. But we all know what happened after that. The moral - don't govern by polls. Just do the right thing!

Crocodile Tears

Nancy the day of reckoning for you and the rest of your colleagues in the Democratic party is just around the corner so I would enjoy your time in the majority while you have it, because it is about to come to and end.

Liberals and Democrats shoud probably start stocking up on Kleenex now because there are going to be a lot of crocodile tears in up coming elections.

The People

In her weekly briefing on Capitol Hill, Pelosi seemed encouraged about passing health reform: "Our members are very excited about what comes next," but she cautioned, "Every legislative vote is a heavy lift around here, assume nothing."

What else Nancy supposed to say? She didn't have the votes 2 months ago. She doesn't have the votes today. And she won't be getting them at any time in the future.

And Nancy - Be sure to keep those telephone lines and e-mail portals up and running. Seeing you're not letting any Representitive go home so they can have  tonwhall meetings on Health Care subject, those are the only ways we will be able to communicate our requests to them to not vote for your socialized health care bill.

Many thanks!

Actually, it's the bigots that look all apoplectic. The entire GOP stategy was to obstruct. Now, they've lost. Barack and the American people have won. Sorry bigots, no soup for you...NEXT!

From Washington Monthly:

'...* In Kentucky, Senate candidate Jack Conway (D) is exploiting outrage surrounding Sen. Jim Bunning's (R) latest tantrum in a new campaign ad...'

WHO are Bunning's supporters ?

The guy is Bat Crazy

'...* Speaking of new campaign ads, Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D) unveiled her first re-election ad this morning. Lincoln, who's facing a primary opponent, boasts in the spot about her opposition to bailouts, the public option, and cap-and-trade. Lincoln also reminds voters, "I don't answer to my party; I answer to Arkansas."

* In the meantime, Lincoln is losing progressive allies at a rapid clip. First it was key labor unions; now it's EMILY's list...'

Bye, bye Blanche

Serves you RIGHT !!

Bragging about OPPOSING the Public Option ???

* The right-wing Club for Growth continues to go after Sen. Robert Bennett (R) in Utah, launching a new ad accusing Bennett of supporting bailouts, wasteful spending, and health care reform. The incumbent senator is facing several primary opponents, but the Club for Growth is not formally backing any of the challengers.

'...* Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is going on the offensive against his primary opponent, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth, reminding voters of Hayworth's role in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal....'

So there's the Choice Arizona Republicans:

TWO CORRUPT Politicians

One disgraced by the Abramoff Scandal

The other Disgraced in the Charles KEating Scandal

Cancer or Polio ??

Is Haynsworth a Womanizer, too ???

First lie our grandkids and kids would be paying for this bill/ truth is do nothing and not only will they be paying for it but their kids will be too and it would be triple what it is now. So th emain question is are you with us or against us simple as that if DemorcraT STAND UP if not sit down for it was nothing sadder than Bunning holding up help for thise in need just to be heard if thats not a from of  BRIDGE TO NOWHERE FOR IT MADE NO SENSE ALSO. Then it is as bad as the Republicans sying they did not know of those posters at one of their events that branded their party name and giggleling all the time I hope Americans really wake up and be truthful it is about our future and health care is part of it but this total rejection or waterlooing is dealing with the race issue for not no more that maybe 2 time's outsideof that war lie about Iraq did anyone show this much anger at President Bush. So the matter may be that if they damage President Obama then even if another black President ever tries to run he would not even get to nomination or donations what some don't know is peole lie these or those from old money hold out for the long haul and their own reason's So sir again you don't need to go pitch it anywhere the Demorcratic Congress can do the rest of the lifting for they are the vote getter's for I don't trust the motives anymore, and 85 percent of those we see on TV have freinds or pacts with hate groups they can't or let's say act like they have no control over and you and your party are going to pass a historic type bill even though twe would have liked the public option better but at least you guts are trying to help in the pocket book area/country first
