Crist vetoes FL anti-abortion bill

Charlie Crist (I) inches closer and closer, it seems, to the Democratic Party.

The AP:

Gov. Charlie Crist has vetoed a bill that would have required women seeking an abortion during the first trimester to undergo an ultrasound exam and pay for it. Crist said Friday it put an inappropriate burden on women seeking an abortion. Crist was a Republican until he left the party recently to make an independent bid for the Senate.

To blunt this, Kendrick Meek (D) is holding a press conference with pro-choice groups at 4:00 pm ET.

Discuss this post

Why shouldn't he switch? It's not like he was treated well or fairly by the right wing nut jobs!

Why you ask? Hmmm I dunno.. maybe cause he is reasonable, coherant & intellegent?

Stapling tea bags onto his forehead doesn't appear to be his forte!

Welcome to the Democratic party Charlie! And thank you for taking a firm stand on women's reproductive rights!

No matter how you liberals try to paint it abortion is murder in the first degree ,The unborn child is growing so there forth it is living because if it wasn't living than it wouldn't be growing and the child has human DNA so that makes the child a living ,growing human being also the child has a heart beat that can be heard when it is six weeks old,Go to any abortion web site and see the tiny arms and legs that have been cut off of the child's body and thrown on a tray and it's tiny body jerked from it's mothers womb --- then sleep well tonight.

Amron,

Thanks... but I sleep quite well at night knowing that under the law a woman has a right to choose! And so does my daughter for that matter.

It's no-ones business other than the woman - her faith and her doctor.. PERIOD!

I would suggest laying off the pro-life propaganda web sites for a little while at least... might help you out with the sleep deprivation... just a thought ;0)

I'm with you feisty, i sleep well knowing if some skum bag rapes one of my daughters, i know they will not have to carry that nasty mans baby in her.

its very convient that republicans yell and scream that its murder but i bet a years pay if one of there daughters or wife had this happen they would change there tone.

they want government out of there lives, but when it comes to a womens right to choose they want government in there lives. you can't have it both ways.

these kind of things, is what seperates us from the communist.

      Jeff,

Their hypocrisy knows NO bounds... Keep in mind if they had it their way they would force woman to give birth ONLY so they can then SCREAM about having to foot the bill for 'welfare babies' and lazy a@@es!

Cause we all know us liberals are all sucking of the system and picking their pockets! Give me a break! **SHEESH**

Amron while agree with youi that abortion is immoral and a sin I also know that bringing a life into this world and not being able to support it is just as bad. If we are going to force women to bring children to birth then we as a society must be prepared to take care of that child if the mother has no resources. Dont argue against welfare and force poverty on the helpless child. So choices must be made I believe that if there's less governmental influence in our lives we'd have to live and die by the choices we make. Some things must come from a conviction of ones own heart. We all must workout our own soul salvation. I believe we all will give an account of everything we say and do oneday, sin is sin the bible teaches me that if i see my brother has a need and I have the resources to help and dont the love of God doesnt dwell in me. Sounds a bit socialist but sometimes we should be conservative in somethings and liberal in others. Really sucks being so hardcore you lose empathy and care for human beings as you say, holding fast to a rigid ideology and refusing to do whats compassionate. My point is will i dont agree with abortion I do think that we should make provision for what we dont allow.

I call my self consertive liberal, i think abortion is wrong, i think the government should not raise your kids, I'm sick of fathers who leave it up to government to support there kids. i believe that on the day we all get to the gates of heaven we Will be judged for how we lived our lives. i wish more men took pride in raising there kids and not leave it up to the women who had the child to raise there children. i don't agree with same sex marriage, marriages is between a man and a woman. i do think government had a roll in helping people, the sick, the old, the handicap. a year i was in favor with government trying to do everything they can to keep the country going until the Private sector comes back.

but what i will not do it force my belief on others. the ultraconsertive want to do this and any body that disagrees is wrong.

amron seems to me that (he or she) want force there beliefs on others and that wrong. I'm sure this person is a good hard working loving person but what (he or she) needs to understand is that not everybody is going to agree with you the post that they left is a bit disturbing, we need to not ridicule but accept there opinion and beliefs and they must do the same. find common ground that the only way to live your live.

A women should have the right to choose, i just hope they choose to have there baby and not have a abortion. i think most liberals feel the same way.no matter what the consertives think.

Thank you Governer Crist! That is what happens when, regardless of your views, you use intelligence and rational thought. Freedom of religion is not only the freedom to belong to any faith you wish but also the freedom from other religious beliefs being forced on you. No one will begrudge anyone their own pesonal faith, so do not take away a woman's right to choose! Really, you don't know what it's like. I am heartened by the fact that there are more people like Jeff and Feisty around. and of course, Charlie Crist. We must hold on to our rights as human beings, for as long as we can. I don't want to live in a fundamentalist society.

Read "Pregnant at 16" by Lori Ghiata Bowser. It is the story of my personal experience as an unwed, pregnant teenager - just 16 years old - way back in 1974 when legalized abortion was brand new. I did NOT have an abortion. I kept my baby and raised him to adulthood, and I have never - NOT ONCE - regretted my selfless decision for life for my child. No matter the circumstances leading to any pregnancy, the child within the womb is indeed a child - an innocent child. The taking of a life, by any means, is never an appropriate answer to any circumstance. If you choose to comment on this note, please doso ONLY after you have read the book in its entirety and after thoughtful consideration. My prayer is that one day abortion will once again be a criminal act, and that every child will be afforded the right to life.

And, for the record ... I did NOT receive government help - didn't even ask for it. I picked myself up by my own bootstraps, finished school early and went to work. No - the biological father NEVER helped either.

                #1.9 - Sun Jun 13, 2010 2:39 AM EDT

The point is Lori....you had a CHOICE...and you still do. A CHOICE to believe whatever you want to believe.

I too have a CHOICE. To read your book or not. To have a child or not.

It is not up to you or anyone else to take away my choice or any other woman's choice. Quite frankly it's none of your business what choice I decide to make.

And for the record, I left home at 16 to escape 2 alcoholic parents, I raised 2 children myself. No help from the father or anyone else. I have 2 awesome children who make me proud every single day. MY CHOICE.

Would I even think about taking away another woman's choice....NOT NO BUT H*LL NO!!!!

God forbid a woman should have to see what she is having done to her body and her baby while exercising her "reproductive rights."

"Pro-Choice"....Yeah. The choice to have as much casual sex as possible without having to deal with the consequences.

                  Typical cuf fluff.

Who would have thought that casual sex was okay so long as you never have an abortion...??

And I think that 99% of women who are getting an abortion know all too well the gravity of the decision they are making.

So are you saying there should be no prophylactics. By your logic they would all be promoting casual sex. No one has a right to tell another what to do with there doctor. I don't believe in abortion, as a matter of fact I am against it. However, I understand it is not my right to tell a lady what to do with her body. To bring it home for you a ex of mine got pregnant and aborted the baby without my knowledge. I was furious ten years ago and I am still. The lesson I learned from that is do not sleep with anyone you wouldn't trust being the mother of your children. I still don't have kids and believe I am paying the penance for what happened. Not for the abortion but for choosing to have "casual sex." When it is all said and done the woman has and should continue to have the right to choose.

                  P.S. I am a born again Christian.

I actually am ok with abortion as long as it's done early. But I think the arguments on the part of the pro-abortion people are often stupid. All the unwanted babies? How bout we bring back the shame and the embarrassment of being an unmarried, pregnant 16 year old? Oh no! Can't have that. The bleeding hearts think it's more important to not damage self-esteem than to prevent more unwanted pregnancies/babies and all the havoc they cause to society.

And the "it's MY body" argument? At some point, ladies, that lump inside you becomes my child and I should have a say whether you like it or not.

Thank goodness for common sense, Gov Crist. The right behaves as if women who decide on an abortion have not thought about it carefully. Forcing unncessary procedures is wrong, simply wrong and an unnecessary expense. As I've said before, I believe the decision is NO ONE's business; it is between the woman, her doctor and her beliefs. The right talks about freedom, liberty and wanting government out of their lives--well, they have no problem shoving their version of government and the right's belief smack into everyone else's personal choices.

His name is jeff Green and he has beaucoup bucks of his own, in a little over a month in the race, he has drawn within five points of Meek. All indications point to Green winning the primary (or buying it if one prefers!) Meek may have the backing of the DNC but he is not well known to the voters or has a lot of money to do TV or expensive flyers/mailers. The little I know of Meek, I am not impressed, nice guy, too quiet, for the rowdyism of Fl politics

Fuc may be right. None of the bush admin said that those who are against the president or his wars are unpatriotic. However, this is what I have found so far and more will be coming:

“The left has a disdain for the military... They’re dangerous... trying to undermine the will of the American people." Tom DeLay, 10/31/06

"It’s clear that the Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry wing of the Democratic Party has a visceral loathing for the American military and for, frankly, America as a country in the world. Their whole approach is to blame us for what, in fact, our enemies do... I think it tells you how deep the sickness is in the left wing of the Democratic Party.” Newt Gingrich, 11/1/06

"That’s your Party that undermines our troop morale and emboldens our enemies," Sean Hannity, 2/1/08.

"When you have Democrats saying it's time to get out, artificial timetables and saying that the Commander-in-Chief lied, distorted, hyped and misled the troops. Is that the thing to do during a time of war?" Sean Hannity, 12/2/05

By the way, last I checked, this is still a time of war. Or is calling our president a radical socialist better than calling him a liar?

There are all kinds of medical reasons for abortion too, but, the bottom line it is the woman's right to CHOOSE what she does with her body. It is not anyone else's right to impose THEIR beliefs on ANYONE.
