Joe Miller Tweeted what?

Joe Miller, who leads incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski by less than 2,000 votes, Tweeted the following today:

@JoeWMiller: What's the difference b/n selling out your party's values and the oldest profession? http://bit.ly/93kXBr

Oldest profession? The Tweet has since been deleted. (Hat tip: Swing State Project for having the screen shot of the deleted Tweet.)

*** UPDATE *** Miller has issued an apology via Twitter, blaming the message on a staffer and saying that it had been referring to Libertarians, not Murkowski herself. "Please accept my apologies. Staffer trying to encourage Libertarians not to sell out," he wrote.

Murkowski, for her part, issued a blistering statement.

"Alaskans deserve better. This type of statement is inexcusable from someone who wants to represent our state,” Senator Murkowski said. “While I have been focused on the remaining ballots, the Miller campaign has launched yet another smear campaign against me. They lied about my record during the primary and now they have resorted to name-calling–it’s disgusting.”

“Alaskan values have never included a complete disregard for the truth or a lack of common decency,” Murkowski said. “Mr. Miller owes all Alaskans, women and my family an apology.”

...like the American public at large wasn't already aware that career politicians are merely whoring for votes.

But God forbid someone think for themselves and depart from prescribed doctrine, Mr. Miller! All you're making me think of is Koestler's Darkness at Noon.

So you would call the GOP candidate's disparity and attempt to represent herself as 'for' a different party after having given it her all and having a running history with another... as "thinking for themselves". I would consider it thinking of themself instead.

Mr. Miller's point is clear enough, there is a winner and a loser for each party's primary, and at the conclusion of the ballot counting... if she is the loser, then his sentiment is that she should accept it rather than stomping her feet. Mr. Miller more than likely made this statement with the realization that if she runs, she will inevitably keep a portion of votes he is counting on splitting the ticket and enabling the other party's win. There is something to be said for sticking to your convictions, but there is just as much to be said about undermining the ultimate goal.

I'm actually curious what his punch line was going to be. Isn't the social aspect of the internet so neat... all this exposure of canidates compared to less than a decade ago...

On the other hand, maybe she has been listening and watching Joe Miller in horror and believes that the other party's candidate would be a better choice than Mr. Miller. The Republican Party has morphed into a very extreme group that does not welcome moderates. Maybe Ms. Murkowski would rather have him lose. Party isn't everything; policy is important too.

Since there is little I can do about Alaska's election... I've not looked at either of their platforms... but I would be shocked if Miller's and Murkowski's platforms were drasticly different CAM... Party is not everything, but policy and the integrity of the person are. I think that the hints of Murkoski wanting to get on as another party's candidate is a sad display if Miller and her have similar platforms, and because I know what will happen if they split the ticket... I can understand Miller's angst (if he does win the primary).

Well its the right time to to make a mistake the primaries are over the voting is done. I'd rather know how a person really thinks from their own heart than doing what most pundits do form opinions to say what someone else is thinking. Joe was being himself calling his oppenent a vicarious prostitute.

I have never made but one prayer to God, a very short one: 'O Lord, make my enemies ridiculous.' And God granted it. Voltaire

I love this guy's writing.

I give up, Joe Miller. How IS selling out your party's values like being a mother?

Maybe you can ask "Mama Grizzly"?

Dumbass!

The word used was "profession"... I would hope you don't think of child bearing and raising as a profession. Well... I guess a drug addict mom with five kids from three different men and a part time job at a hair salon could be construed as a profession with the realization that if she pops out another kid the government will give her more food stamps and/or money. But I'm not sure food stamps and money for poor child raising women existed before prostitution... pretty sure it has not.

RatPoison,

You are a disgusting excuse for a man. Making the opposite sex sound awful to elevate your male ego. At least she is raising her children. What is your excuse? Just sitting back complaining about women because non are stupid enough to have children with you or cook for you or do your laundry?

Useless man that you are I have no doubt you know lots about prostitutes since you have to pay for it.

So, lazy harp, your rant boils down to this:

"The democrats spend money to benefit the poor and middle class, which makes them 'socialists' in your book. The Republicans redistribute the wealth upward and concentrate the wealth and control of the country in the hands of a small elite, which makes them 'patriots' in your book. And you can 'prove' it by using the dreaded S-word and equating the President of the United States to a terrorist who murdered several thousand people, and further prove it by using the word for the excrement of a male bovine."

Lazy you are right on the mark. The so called "progressives" who claim to spend to support the poor simply strip money from others to pay for their pet projects. The American way is to allow the populace to determine what and where their (let me repeat that... THEIR) money gets spent. Every American should be free to spend THEIR own money on causes and charities THEY determine. NOT on the radical BS the demonrats and the radical fringe left choose!

I see a bunch of replies blasting politicians, especially Sarah, Joe, and other tea party backed idiots, then Jeanne, an obvious neo-conservative. This is when the replies change to "nutjob libs."

I am so tired of so-called conservatives blasting their fellow Americans as if they were somehow better Americans, since they agree with Rush, Glenn, and the other talking heads. Folks, the first Amendment belongs to ALL Americans, and you Conservatives are NOT better Americans because you fall for the bluster of the group already mentioned. Why do the followers, like Jeannie, of these commentator fools spew such hate for their fellow citizens?

Ok Jeannie lets start by calling you a whore and see if you like it. That is what the tweet was pretty much saying about the other candidate. And seeing how sarah uses facebook to communicate with her fanbase I dont' see how you can insult liberals for using Facebook.

And anyone taking large sums of money and riding in private jets that sound like Sarah is a pretty high priced call girl all by herself.

WOW talk about hypocrites! The "libs" and "nutjobs" don't like to be called that and it is SOOOO devisive but they can call the majority "right-wingers" and "tea baggers" and every other BS name in the book (Ohhh and lets not forget "whore") and its not an issue. HMMMM sounds like the term nutjobs fits them just fine!

The truth is that by selling out principles to get elected ANY politician is like a prostitute! So I think the original tweet was not off the mark one bit. Arlen Specter shifted parties to get elected, Lieberman the same, Murkowski ... well we'll have to see how she handles that one but to date, she and Olympia Snowe are not being honest by voting against conservative values. Perhaps it would be best if they both changed parties.

And the reason for the so called "hate" you see coming from "conservatives" is because the "progressive" BS programs, entitlements, immorality, anti-God mentality is a direct and distinctly offensive attack on everything we hold dear. The Constitution belongs to every American but NOT so that you can recreate it in support of liberal ideals.

If you want to say lets clean up the rhetoric and name calling then both positions should take part. I would be glad if it happened. I just don't think the truce would last long.

How can everyone miss the point so badly?   The tweet asked about selling out the party's values and the link was to an article about the Libertarians being willing to let Lisa run as a Libertarian even though she clearly does not hold Libertarian views.   I am pretty sure that Joe meant that the Libertarian party was willing to sell out/prostitute itself.   However,  if Lisa is willing to run under a banner clearly not of her belief,  it doesn't say too much for her character either.   Everyone lighten up,  Joe asks a legitimate question.

Joe said "what's the difference between selling out your party and a whore." The Libertarian Party did not "sell out their party" -- they are their party. He was accusing Lisa of selling out the Republican Party. It is amazing how apologists will twist language and logic when the text is so plain and unambiguous.

Da Noid - You're a democrat, thus slow witted, so I'll have to explain this to you.

He was not referring to "mothers" as the world's oldest profession, but rather "prostitutes".

With Bill Clinton, JFK and others in your corner, I would have expected you to know that.

No matter. He was saying...follow me now...that Murkowski was a whore to special interests and the Washington political machine and had sold out her conservative values. As a liberal, I know that "values" are a mystery to you, but hopefully you get it. But probably not.

MSNBC - I know it's killing you that the Tea Party is doing so well. I know that you absolutely positively guaranteed that Miller would be blown out in the primary and when Miller lost it would be a sign that Palin was a fraud and the Tea Party was a fad. Surprise.
