Murkowski keeps Energy post

From NBC's Ken Strickland
Senate Republicans decided not to strip Sen. Lisa Murkowski of her position as the top Republican on the Energy committee, after she mounted a write-in bid for her Senate seat.

"The conference decided not to make any changes," said Sen. Richard Burr. The Conventional Wisdom going into the GOP caucus meeting was the Burr would be selected to replace Murkowski.

Senate GOP Conference Chairman Lamar Alexander refused to discuss how it all unfolded behind closed doors. "There are some things that we discussed within the conference, and we keep them there," he said moments after the meeting.

"We've done what we need to do and we decided not to do more."

Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming was picked to succeed Murkowski as Conference vice-chairman.

Someone's being sleighted for daring to break ranks this close to the election.

...or perhaps not!

    Oh my...

That doesn't fit the narrative, does it?

This was a petty little 'tempest in a teapot' that will resolve itself in a few weeks ... one way or the other.

Hmmmmm.....maybe Murkowski threatened to vote with the Dems if they stabbed her in the back.

What is interesting is that they DID AND WILL KEEP that squabble behind doors and present a united front NO MATTER how contentious the meeting may have been. That really screws with my head! Why can't we do the same? Fight! Scratch each other's eyes out - work out the kinks and when you emerge be united. The blue dogs started this ugliness - "fighting it out in the news" - back with the healthcare debate. Don't you know how that makes your supporters feel? Just like your kids feel when they hear mom and dad fight!!! We feel insecure! DUH!?!?!?!?

They decided she is not a Rino after all. Good thing they did not through her in water to see if she would drown. If she drowned that would prove she in not a Rino.

What I would like is for our elected officials be a lot less worried about being Republican (or Democrat) and a lot more worried about being American. Of the two terms, the latter is by far the most important.

You can make a case that Hillary would have done a better job than Obama, but Nancy Pelosi? She is a horrible speaker of the house - a true blue elitist who I believe is in it for the "perks" and not the people.

I can't believe what a laughingstock the GOP has made of the American political theatre. There are clowns everywhere; there is national pride nowhere to be found....IT'S ON YOUR SIDE OF THE AISLE TOO DEMS!!! The world is looking and giggling at us. So this is what the super nation does? Pitiful!

So even when the GOP says it will "take a stand" they back down....they can't even stop saying no to themselves...

I'm sure Lisa told the caucus that she would no longer support the leadership in their obstructionist tactics in the Senate if she were stripped of her position in the committees she's on. Case in point: repeal DADT in the Defense bill they fillibustered yesterday. I for one am very supportive of her write-in candidacy (although I am a Democrat [a Clinton Conservative to be more exact]). I hope she defeats her tea-potty oppponent in the general election, and then stands on the Senate floor, sticks out her tongue to the Repubs that wanted to hang her out to dry, and if bold enough, throw them all the finger!

                You go GIRL!

Damp01-- she is going to be beat like a rug in the election. And what a surprise that a Democrat wants to block a patriot from winning the election.

Gary, i believe you are referring to me....and i'm sure it was an honest mistake you misspelled my name, so i'll let that go....

I am a true patriot of this country....more so than that clown who won the republican primary up there! I believe in freedom for ALL...not just those who agree with me. I fully embrace ALL principles of America, can you say the same?

She's still a Repub until after the election. Win, lose or draw, she will have to be an Independent after that.

So it's correct she keep her position until after the election. If she wins as an Independent perhaps she can still keep her job, and if she doesn't win, then she is out anyway.

I can't believe she was defeated in the primary and is coming back as an Independent. But what the heck do I know, Crist did it! Guess they want to try to keep their jobs at any cost.

The Republicans let her keep her position because otherwise, if she won as an Independent, she'd be an Independent in the Senate with a pretty deep grudge vs the Republicans. Picture her being to the Republicans what Lieberman is to the Democrats.

Murkowski should show some class - obviuosly she has none - it's all about greed and power for herself.

Lead, follow or get out of the way - and Murkowski has proven she isn't capable of any of the three ----

Murkowski is an absolue embarrassment and a very poor loser. She is the epitome of what is wrong wth our political system - her ego and her lust for power have overwhelmed everything, including the fact that SHE LOST.

She, Charlie Christ and any other politician who refuses to bow to the power of the voters are poster children for term limits.

To follow your logic, would you say the same thing about Lieberman in 2006?

Well, no, because he defeated a liberal and votes often with Republicans. So, it's totally different.

What's is the point of this story? Every polling source shows Murkowski is completely finished anyways. You only need to swat a fly once to kill it.
