Michael Steele has just dropped out of the race to retain his job at the helm of the RNC and endorsed Maria Cino to be the committee's next chair.
"At this time I will step aside for others to lead," he said.
"It's very clear the party wants to do something a little different and maybe a little better," Steele said in announcing his decision to withdraw his candidacy.
He received a standing ovation from committee members.
The fifth round of voting will begin now. Four candidates remain in the race.

Excellent. I found him annoying and now I don't have to see him on talk shows. Whooppeeeeee!
I find it hilarious that you guys actually care so much. Seriously... why does anyone care?
Who says you won't see him on talk shows? He'll have more time now and he'll be every liberal's favorite republican for a while, so he'll be a hit on all of the major news networks.

Nice to know you are really wanted by your own party!:)

Excellent. I found him annoying and now I don't have to see him on talk shows. Whooppeeeeee!
"At this time I will step aside for others to lead," he said. Then I heard him say exit stage right.
Didn't cartoon characters use than expression? Or does it mean he's sneaking out the back door.
Any how we may just see Steele again; if you watch FOX we may see him again on with the head honcho Hannity.
He and Hannity still have a lot of heavy lifting to do. Dick Morris said the 2012 election will be on FOX.
Poor Mikey he and Hannity backs have to be tired.
Wake up Michael they used and abused you and they'll do it again if you keep being stupid.
Beverly in Chicago: Snagglepuss the lion used the phrase "Exit stage ......" back in the late 60's early 70's.
The GOP have pretty much run this guy out of town on a rail....what did he do to them?
I bet they elect a white person.
I believe it's a Shakespeare reference. I've heard it "Exeunt", not "Exit" before, which is how it is written in Shakespeare plays.
I actually liked Steele when he was here in Maryland. I hope that this "New direction" is a good one, and not an orchestration by certain other parties.
Eric -- what difference does the color of the next leader make? Martin Luther King said judge people by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin. Your emphasis on the color of people's skin will lead you astray.
With all the problems the Republicans and The Tea Party have with a black being President , you know that Mr Steele time was limited.
WELL WELL the token has been thrown in the junk pile.
jlang i do hope you are not especially proud of your bigotry. If you're a little child craving attention, there's more constructive ways of doing it.

HMMMMM.... isn't that what many who voted for Obama 2 years ago did in the recent midterms?
We haven't seen either of those two categories fulfill the intelligence requirement yet, that weren't conmen and grifters.
Paul you couldn't hold a candel to Condi Rice , Colin Powell , Martin Luther King . I don't think you are the Judge .
isn't that what many who voted for Obama 2 years ago did in the recent midterms?
Obama was not running in the mid terms!
The only thing more aggravating to a liberal than seeing an intelligent Black man be conservative is when it is an intelligent woman. Hence the hate mongering and against this man and Sarah Palin.
Most of you right wing clowns cannot think for yourself but insist on telling us how so called liberals think. First off there are not that many liberls left in this country and by the way most of them are leading the republican party to destruction. They are called neocons and maybe you should look them up and know just who you are working for with your trolling.
Btw pointing out stupidity is not hate mongering your party has the lock on that activity.
It is OK, he still has his job on Sesame Street complaining to waiters.
Steele Justice!
Thanks for the memories, Michael, buh bye.
"buh bye"? Seriously, how old are you? Who still types "buh bye."
you just did aaron. twice. seriously, how old are you? make a substantive comment...
"buh bye." is the way Mcglaulin(?) use on his program. So the question is how old r u?
I have no comment. I just find it funny when people type like that. Kind of like when people type "uummmmmm.......I am not sure" You know just to let me know the tone. Good call on my typing it twice. However, I am not sure how I would have been able to comment on it without typing it. However, good to point it out. Now, buh bye (damn, I did it again.) I am just under 40.
No intention to offend. I just it was spelled Bye-Bye. My bad. The other way ( which I am not allowed to type or I will be called out by christopher michael) just seemed a tad childish. Thats all. Have a great weekend.
way to take that one standing up with grace aaron.
ironically, and as simple as it may sound, there are many people out there right now who may look at your example as that which we should be seeing more of: taking responsibility for what you say, how you say it and the effect it has on others, no matter how passionate about something you may be. dare i say, our exchange is a beacon of hope for us all!! and i'm not even trying to be condescending whatsoever...
and a fine weekend to you also!!
Of course! The plan of having a black leader for RNC to go against Obama didn't work. We all knew Steele was a token.
Token?? Spoken like a true racist- double -standard liberal.
It's the truth Ms. Mantis010.
Carry on.
It's pretty clear Steele was only marginally competent and a mediocre choice. Unless the RNC just makes terrible decisions (which is possible), it's pretty clear Steele got the job the same way Palin was chosen for McCain's VP running mate (i.e. "You wanna woman? We got a woman!")
No, it's not racist. He was a token and we all saw right through it, including Michael Steele. He knows why they approached him with that job, which is why he was so rogue with the position. This backfired on the republicans just as John McCain picking Sarah Palin to combat the 'Hillary effect' backfired on him. He was so token.
Clotho, I am with you. Had they chosen Rice or Collin, it would've made sense but Steele???
As opposed to the competency requirements at the DNC?
Let's see- 63 House seats. Seven Senate seats. So many governors you need a private eye to find a democratic governor, to say nothing of all the state legislatures that changed hands- in a redistricting year!
In lighting all of that, it made all the sense in the world for the DNC to retain its leadership.
Oh, yeah.
One could also argue Steele was to Obama as Sarah Palin was to Hillary Clinton in the 08 Presidential race. I felt it was as if the Republicans were trying to get their own representative to capture their 'market share' or audience (constituency). Don't you just love how politics work.
*Disclaimer: This is only my humble OPINION; I'm not claiming it to be absolute truth--this is a public forum, after all, right?
Then you don't mind people saying Obama is the token Black President, do you?
Blacks, don't use that word when there's a "gifted white" jazz; blues; r&b star; boxer; General; or even President. They just say "Dam that White Dude or Chick got their S*%# together, and they can hang, too." Like the late Tina Marie and Janis; Joe Cocker; Rare Earth; Tom Jones; President Clinton; Kenny G; Larry Bird.
Yes he was their token, they thought it would pull more blacks to their side, it didn't work, now he has to go. First black and last black head of the rethug party.
Obama's #1 fan.
Hey Mantis the people voted Obama in.. he isnt a token black man..... Steele on the otherhand was not voted in by the people the bigshots of your party put him in at that post... which makes him a TOKEN BLACK MAN for the Repuke party
Is steele black? I thought that was just a tan. Everyone knew Steele was incompetent when he was elected. After Obama won, the RNC felt then needed more than the southern and rich Caucasian vote. Do U remember when Steele got elected. His plans to attract urban votes, his hip-hop language. Bachmann's "U da man" statement. Steele knew it but didn't mind. He got paid plenty for it.
no joe, no bo, nj
As opposed to the competency requirements at the DNC?
leave it to 'No Joy' to turn it in another direction.
Mantis101, alas young lad, it is those same liberals that are anointed as the preserver of equal opportunity and justice, I think one has his parties confused, The Republicans are the Yosemite Sam, anti Semitic racist that now control the white rich peoples house, and by the way conservative's have always been the label of the rich and powerful. Now unless you are major rich, which I'm sure your not, or you wouldn't be here on this site, or you have chosen the path of enlightenment of your fellow poor small town folk, that actually think they are important enough for almighty God to visit them personally in this lifetime. Well I prefer the path to the fact that you only get one chance, and there is nobody waiting for you on the other side. So keep pandering to those rich guy's because their going to pay you back how? Create Jobs? NOT! by the way all those red states in the south used to be blue, but changed their allegiance to the Republicans after a Democrat called Johnson signed the Equal Rights act and Voting Rights act. Does that mean that all southerners are racist, well maybe not, but it does prove that the largest majority are! Now before your knee's jerk trying to respond to this, ponder it for a few minutes and open a book or Google it. Quit believing all the fear that has been driven into your head by the right and tune into some centrist stations and then make a choice.
Michael Steele was not elected as RNC chair because the RNC thought that just by electing him black voters would follow. He was elected to develop a strategy to attract black voters. Since he is black, they figured that he would be a good man for the job. However, he failed to do what he was hired for. The RNC now realizes that there is no way they are going to gain black votes from Obama. He could wear a puppy coat while closing down every American business and they would still vote for him. So, there is no reason to try. Instead, the RNC will more than likely focus on the female or hispanic vote. If women and hispanics are smart they will vote Republican. The current administration has done nothing for them except belittle them and take them for granted.
No matter who is in what, rep' or dem,s this country is still is big trouble. Think back when oil and gas went skyrocketing up our economy started dropping and we hav not recovered. Is it a plan makes me think?
Heal America? Right... says the party who started the ruining of America just so the democrats could take over and ruin it more.
Opsecalpha... How can you possibly say that white and Hispanic women would benefit for the "Taking back America" slogan that the tea baggers have chosen to run on, Are we seeking the kinder gentler days of the 50's, where if you were a white man life was pretty good, but if you were a woman or a person of color not so much, huh? Just tell me how that 2.3 percent of the rich fear mongers are going to lift up the masses, tell us all...enlighten us, Which America do you want back? I also want to know why all those very rich people that got even richer and sent all your jobs to India and South East Asia are going to create new jobs in America and help you when your sick? Bet not one rich person your even causally acquainted with will break out the checkbook and pay your doctors visit. So do yourself a favor and never grow old, because quite frankly we can't afford you!
Opsecalpha- Your comment, "He was elected to develop a strategy to attract black voters. Since he is black, they figured that he would be a good man for the job." is admitting that Steele was indeed a token.
I personally lost interest in Steele after apologizing to Rush, it went further down hill with his twisting of facts in his fund raisers. The final blow was the bondage club incident. As a manager myself, I am responsible for my subordinates. I make sure that those under me carry out thier duties and do not embarrass the company.
In reviewing the events up to his departure, one can only determine his departure was imminant. Politically, Steele is a moderate, and like all moderates, not permitted to participate in the republican party. I would expect his announcement of switching political affilliation to dependant.
SickoftheLeft&theRight

Be careful!
You're trying to "expose" the "reality" of a situation to a group of ultra-right wing idiots...
As was "blatantly" demonstrated by Mrs. Palin's absurdly "self-exonerating denial" reaction to the horrible events in AZ over the weekend-and those lost souls who were "mentally unhinged" enough to attempt to "defend" that narcissistic "face-plant" she gave herself-it's pretty obvious that these people "don't" respond well to reality...
BTW: Going off topic here-and I "never" thought I'd ever be in a position to have to say this-but I'd actually like to give a shout out to "Joe Wilson" for stepping up to do the "morally responsible" thing in the face of the tragedy by asking whoever this irresponsible, reckless "and" dumb-ass "Gun" company is to take the words "You Lie" off part of their "weapon"...
So if you happen to stumble across this board Sarah, perhaps you and your band of "zombie's" should consider taking a cue from "Ole' Joe" there because "that" is how you're "supposed" to "rise above it" and conduct yourself "responsibly" in a "civilized" society-as in "not" taking "several" days to reflect and "chose" your words "carefully" only to "still" decide it would make "more" sense to make a statement clearly aimed at the "least" civilized portion of society...
Cheers
Demj, you can hurriedly scramble for cover by invoking the names Rice and Collin (i am assuming you mean Colin Powell), but barring a retraction, your words are still bigoted. It seems to me that any African American which does not fit inside your sterotyped mold is a "token", and oddly enough you do not see this attitude as racist. I assure you it is. You said "we all knew it". By "we" who do you mean? Hypernova and sickofleftandright? I have the feeling it's more inclusive than just that. Racist rhetoric AND you feel empowered to speak for others. Great combination. Oh, BTW, going off-topic, here, I find hypernova's oh so predictible attitude that anyone who disagrees with you is an "ultra right-wing idiot" is saddening, though unsurprising. You should work on that anger, Hyper; you'll feel better.
Bigoted, yes. Racist, not hardly. Stop conflating the two. Learn the difference, or continue to embrace your own ignorance. Don't complain when your willful ignorance, is then pointed out as such.
Thanks for the input Paul. Not certain i follow you. i believe tokenism is inherently racist, and it seems to be so defined in dictionaries. Now, if someone from the GOP said "Mr. Steele is just our token Negro", i don't think anyone here would disagree that it is racist. If, on the other hand, Demj says (paraphrasing) "he's just a token, and we all knew it", how is this any less racist, or am i missing something? i have no intention of embracing ignorance, and if you could enlighten me, i would appreciate it.
Kuwanki

Wow, that's all very cute but "talk" is cheap so step up and "prove" what "we" said to be "wrong" and be "detailed" about it...
First up, I use "ultra-right wing" instead of just "right wing" because any sane person with some "common sense" left or right (I believe you refer to us as "we") can easily recognize the difference.
PS: Your statement "clearly" illuminates the point seing as "you" are the person who brought up "Powell and Rice" but oddly "not" Mr. Steele himself as the example-seems like your "subconscious" mind's internal "fight" to bring you back to certain "realities" of the world around you may be flaring up again! So you've already warped that one right out of the gate.
Secondly, why don't you address "we" as to exactly "why" it is that "you" believe the RNC picked Mr. Steele-as in "when" GOP party did it at the "time" they did it-and even better explain to us why McCain picked Sarah Palin to be the "2nd most powerful person on Earth" taking into account all the other "more" experienced GOP members "clearly" more "qualified" for either of those positions...
Thirdly, that "ain't" racism, slick (well, maybe in the psychologically "inverted" world of "ultra-right wing morons" our comments actually "are" seen as "racist" seeing as they actually "don't" consider "hero's" like Rush, Beck, O'Reilly, Hannity, Breitbart, Geller or brain-dead dip$hits carrying posters of the country's first ever African-American "President" dressed like a f.u.c.k.i.n.g "witch doctor" as racist)!
What that's "is" is calling out the obviously "race" based as well as "gender" based motives behind what the GOP did in "both" of those cases based on the "facts" and everyone damn well knows it including "you" whether you or the other lemmings on here have the balls to admit it to yourself or not!
Lastly, I along with my 2 older brothers and 1 sister are "all" the result of a marriage of our "German" father and our "French-Egyptian" mother...Wanna take a guess as to what "I" actually look like?
So take as much time as you need to wrap that brain around all that "reality" to create the "appropriate"-meaning delusional-ultra-right wing "idiot" reply which will allow you to just mentally dismiss those "facts" about what the GOP did...You know, to keep the "dream" alive.
Or...
If based on all that "reality" you say "f.u.c.k. it" and instead decide to "opt out" of the ultra-right wing asylum and come to the conclusion that you in fact are "not" as clueless and naive-as I truly "hope" you're just "pretending" to be on this at the moment-to the obvious "image building" reasons why the GOP-and "especially" McCain-made those "publicity stunt" decisions which in the end didn't work out all that well feel free to "cross over" as well...
Remember...Sarah Palin just made the mistake of "doubling-down" on her absurd "denial to the reality of the world around her" and it clearly didn't work out to well for her either!
So "choose" wisely...
Cheers
Poor Michael, used and abused.
Aw shucks. He's as entertaining as Sarah.
and you're as brainwashed as an average liberal.
Sounds like you are the average neocon uyb.
Isn't he though!!! You never knew what was going to come out that mouth, but what you did know was it would Sarah Palin equivalent and worth laughing at. I have to wonder why they're not offering the job to Sarah!
Steele will still be around... he's not finished embarrassing the Repukes... Palin and Steele the gifts that keeps on giving. Obama 2012!!
use your brains
"and you're as brainwashed as an average liberal."
Use your brains: Sau this: "Neener Neener Neener". C'mon, you can do it!
Use your Brains...What is the left brainwashed about? Usually that is a term reserved for a Republican assault, Remember were just crazy Liberal's who have this since of a thing called "fair play". Most of us are pretty grounded and Urban, Usually from places that people actually want to go or live, You know "I'm going to go make my fortune in the Big City"! In other words when does the heartbeat of America start in Beaver falls or Ivory City? Maybe little burrows like those throughout America that can't put all there school classes together and come up with a real High School Diploma should chose the direction of the worlds largest economy, does that leave any of you guy's feeling warm and fuzzy?
USE YOUR BRAINS - Use your brains and lighten up. I'm a Republican with a sense of humor. Where's yours?
Ah, that's why the cocktail party for Maria Cino was so important to Boehner - more important than the memorial in AZ.
That "Memorial" was nothing more than a well- orchestrated pep-rally by the Dems and media. Witness the whooping and applause.. Very disrespectful. Memorial it was not.
Where was Obama at the memorial for the 11 workers who died in BP explosion this summer?
I've got an even better question....Why wasn't he at my grandmother's memorial service?
That's ridiculous. The 11 workers at the BP plant were killed by corporate negligence, not a crazed gunman who was shooting because he didn't like a person's politics.
You want Obama to go to "Every" memorial for someone who got killed? Maybe you want him to come to yours when your time is up. :)
'The 11 workers at the BP plant were killed by corporate negligence, not a crazed gunman who was shooting because he didn't like a person's politics.'
How does it matter how they died? Their lives weren't worth honoring? And nice try, but the Arizona shooter wasn't motivated by politics.
@basedrum777- the 11 workers were killed by your need for oil and gas- even though you recycle and hate oil companies, you need it for your standard of living and national security. Therefore it is a national tragedy like AZ.
Your big democratic government did not do its job in oversight nor in capping the well, they are inept and had to rely on those nasty corporations and their high tech underwater robots to solve the problem.
The gunman was mentally ill. He did not know what he liked or didn't like, so how you equate that to political motive is also ridiculous.
@mantis010- The oversight on the present administration on the BP disaster was a result of this administration "trusting" that the previous administration was on top of its job in writing rules that would have prevented the explosion but of course history proved that you shouldn't assume that a republican administration would do something for the benefit of the American Public but it did do what was expected to benefit corporations at all costs.
Bush and Cheney should have gone to the BP workers' memorials.
Corporate greed killed those workers. They lobbied the Bush Administration to remove regulation that would have prevented the disaster.
In all honesty, you must admit that going to a fund raising party instead of a memorial is not a politically correct move. Surely common sense left Boehner with that decision. That, like Steele, is an error in judgement to start his reign as speaker. I am sure there will be more errors on his part now that he is leader, what does he care now? In the end, Boehner will be another Steele heading off into the sunset. The only difference is his wallet.
This news really justifies a screamer, banner headline? The "HE'S OUT!" first deck also infers a certain amount of glee from the MSNBC editors.
Leaves little to the imagination about which side of the political spectrum MSNBC favors.
Was there ever any doubt?
Paul Kelly,
Fox boobs, 24/7. MSNBC, maybe 5/6 hours a day.
Radio Airwaves 90% right wing owned, operated.
Why do you even care?????
Were you really confused about that beforehand? It's definitely not as far from center as Fox (then again, neither is the daily worker) but it's always been a tad left.
Apologies for not being "Fair And Balanced"™
I guess Paul thinks that only conservatives deserve a biased TV channel and hundreds of biased radio stations
Great Point and exactly what I was thinking. I think the appropriate question following that headline would be "Who gives a #$%*"
I care for two reasons.
One, this story does not deserve screamer headline status. It's not even a lead story. It wouldn't be either if the DNC chairman stepped down.
MSNBC doesn't have a clue that the vast majority of Americans couldn't give a crap about the inner workings of Washington politics. Maybe MSNBC's editors need to take a drive outside the Beltway for a change.
Two, it would be great if there was one neutral network that simply reported the news. I guess those days are gone because straight news doesn't get ratings.
Even THAT network would be blasted as being "liberal media" by the GOP.
human smatter ( #8.2)....Fox boobs ??....Did ya come up with that childish name all by yourself.....or did you cut and paste it ??? As to Michael Steele dropping out .....he said some really dumb things at some fundraisers and it's time for a fresh face at the RNC.
Paul, I agree and was trying to convey the same thing.
How do you explain the applause when he announced he was stepping down? Is that partisan politics too?
humansmatter and others are right-on. Republican leaners and "tea-baggers" are invincibly ignorant. I would bet that most commentors have no college education. Of course, I would not be surprised if they respond that they are educated. No one who has an education could support Sarah ("You Betcha", gun-toting) Palin!
Here's Fox's headline
Steele Bows Out as RNC Chairman
You tell me which font was bigger!!!!!
Kathryn Hamilton..(#8.12)...Wow...Your characterization of Tea Party couldn't be more wrong....Yes, you are entitled to think whatever you want. Perhaps it would be better to learn what the Tea Party really is instead letting others tell you. You can't say CBS is in the tank for Republicans. Following is a pretty fair and accurate article.
In Part " They are better educated than most Americans: 37 percent are college graduates, compared to 25 percent of Americans overall. They also have a higher-than-average household income, with 56 percent making more than $50,000 per year."
http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-503544_162-20002529-503544.html
Mike in Delray.... So you think that 50K a year is a lot of money, enough in fact that you would hitch your wagon to those guy's making a bonus of say 50 million a year, right? Well lets see, the largest portion of you are college graduates, right? And your goal is to seek out and retake an America you fantasize about or existed in years gone by. Right? Now Mike I have a feeling that your all fantasizing about having a college education, and wish you actually made 50K a year...lol!
Grow up jeffery f....I post a link to a "main street media" source about the make up of the Tea Party members replying to another post and all you can do is make derogatory guesses about me ??....Didn't you get the Memo from Obama the other night ??.....
Mike, I am very grown at 52, and make my mind up based upon the fact that America is a better place to live now, than some simple minded revisionist place you lust for. I would be willing to bet you a saw buck, that your white, Christian and have the unmitigated gall to think that GOD almighty is coming to meet YOU on your watch. Now Mike, how close am I?
Awe shucks....that's a shame. Good times, bro. We "libruls" will REALLY miss ya.
too bad the democrats don't know when they are defeated.... take notice Pelosi.
...Please!
Pelosi was defeated? When did that happen? Last I checked she was re-elected by her district.
Tea anyone?
I thought the Dems still had control of 2/3 of government
I thought the American people were in control of their government...my bad.
use your brains
too bad the democrats don't know when they are defeated.... take notice Pelosi.
Notice, you didn't say that about Repubs. We won healthcare and you people think you can waste money and time by repealing it.
That's a sure fire way to lose you 1/3 majority.
Beverly,
I may be wrong, truly, but I think the Health Care bill actually hurt the Democrats in the election. It may be that they did not convey the message of the health care, but I do believe its cost and size motivated people to vote another direction.
Too bad you cant USE YOUR BRAINS... you and Palin share the same gray matter??
What's gray matter?
Brains- or lack there of, you need a history lesson. Revisit the mid term election results for all 4, 8 year term presidents of the last 40 years. everyone lost the midterms and everyone was re-elected. I wouldn't count your chickens before they hatch. Remember the elderly, middle class and poor almost never turn out for these types of elections but they do vote come President time. Just Remember they are expecting based on what they read and see that the Republicans are riding into town to save the day, only to realize it's a fake town like Blazing Saddles...lol. When they realize that the rich just keep making more money and they are losing jobs and saving's, you'll see a different electorate in two years.
A true leader, and a very smart individual. "Thank You" Michael Steele!
Yeh, not so much!
If that were true, the GOP wouldn't be over $20 million in the hole. But I'm sure they can handle the country's finances better than their own...
Grand Moff Joseph.....would be nice if you actually wrote the whole truth....it's easy to look up.
"The Republican National Committee and Democratic National Committee both finished the 2010 campaign with more than $15 million in debt, according to disclosures filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission."

For $30.00 donation now the DNC will give you a surplus commemorative Obama T-shirt.
Mike from your link not mine
At the first RNC candidate forum Wednesday, each of the four prospective candidates in attendance trashed Steele’s handling of the committee's finances — though rarely identifying the chairman by name.
Additionally, each of the prospective candidates is promising more transparency and accountability in the RNC’s finances, which were plagued throughout the cycle by reports of inappropriate and exorbitant spending.
Though the DNC ended with nearly as much debt, the committee stands in a stronger financial position than the RNC, as it carries $9.7 million in cash on hand going into the 2012 election cycle.
Hows that crow tasting about now? Maybe you should read the whole article before posting your one liners, Just like Palin, One liners! Now Mike I know that makes you want to"lock and load" .You know old Palin "They bring a knife, we'll bring a gun" don't you just wanna hug her to death?
Love him or hate him, for him to say he'll step aside so they can do things differently, "and maybe a little BETTER" (emphasis added obviously), shows great character. When's the last time you heard a politician even remotely allude to someone being capable of doing something better than he/she could? I'm not a fan of his, but certainly wish him well whatever next step he decides to take.
Great character?? - he quit after at least 3 rounds of voting. Just like Sarah quit while still in office - nothing like watching someone jump from the boat just before it sinks. Real Captains, these guys.
mtmw-2877431...still with the Palin analogies ?? Why is she so stuck in your head ??....I seem to remember Hillary "quiting" the campaign at the Democratic National Convention, releasing her delegates and giving her support to Obama.....Takes the better part of valore to concede for the betterment of the bigger picture and not personal advancement.
Mike in DelRay,
I am not surprised that tea-baggers have higher incomes. Thank you for that edification. All this tells me is that, like their figure-head (Sarah Palin), they do not care about the majority of Americans who are suffering in this economy - no health insurance, etc. If I must stand corrected, it is only to acceed that "tea-baggers" care only about themselves! So much for "my brother's keeper" - as I have heard the Bible says. Was I wrong in understanding that most "tea-baggers" are people of faith?
Kathryn Hamilton...Well said, I am not of religious persuasion, but I am a humanist that believes that not only should we help a person in dis-pare up, we should help them rise above, the problem with the tea baggers is they seek out an era of times past, say the late 40's or early 50's. Those times were great if you were a white male, if you were a woman or a person of color thing's kind of sucked, (remember the Honeymooners? "Alice right to the moon" in other words if your wife pissed you off it was OK to punch her in the mouth!)I also find it extremely funny that those southern red states were blue states until a Democrat named Johnson signed the Equal Rights act and Voting Rights Act. Then they all jumped to the Red side, I'm 52 and originally from Alabama. I watched it happen before my very eye's, Baggers away! So next time you bump into a bagger, ask what America their looking for and want to take back!
Jeffrey f,
I am not of a religious persuasion either. I am also a humanist. What I have said on this site is my attempt to quel the fanatical right.
Kathryn-I agree with you totally, The right has taken the path of the last Republican congress that was lead by Newt Gingrich. Remove Gingrich and insert Boenher. The Rhetoric is the same and the tempo as well, Newt was a pain in the side for Clinton, but in the end, despite a censor in congress for his attempt to conceal an indiscretion, the Clinton Presidency will be held up as a very successful administration. On the other hand the Bush years were a squandering of the advancements of the 80's and 90's. Boehner and his friends will have a hard road to follow, since any legislation promised will never be delivered. It will be an interesting election in 2012. I feel pretty confident however that the momentum has shifted back to the President and people are seeing the Tea Party for what it really is, a cancer on each state in America and in our lives we will see the demise of their leader Sarah Palin who left office, knowing see could not deliver Alaska as a prosperous state by the end of her term. That would of in effect prove that she is not fit to assume the position of POTUS.
new englanda,
You mean you didnt enjoy him explaining such political things as people wearing a baseball cap backwards? Now he can write a tell all book which will probably be much the same pity party as was Sarah Palins tape. I do agree with you, I am tired of his assinine antics. On the other hand he has done so much for the Republican party.
Sorry to see him go. He was good for the Democrats. Oh well, we can still look forward to Palin's run for president!!!
Yeah, 63 seats worth. LOL
Really? We'll see how that works out when the Republican implode from the infighting between the Teabaggers and the old guard!!! HA! No more better entertainment than that!!!!!!!!!
And, if it's true that he caused the Republicans to gain 63 seats, why don't the Republicans want to re-elect him?
More like the Koch brothers and Rove not the Man of Steele.
You know he can now go for the presidency now that he dropped out?
GO-DEMS-2685455
Because his number one job is to raise money. In that catagory, he failed miserably.
Job seeker.... You just said that he was responsible for 63 seats for the Republicans. Now you say he didn't get re-elected because he failed miserably at raising money. Was the failure to raise money the cause of the gain in Republican seats???
You make no sense!!
Nonsense! He is just a flip flopper.
I'm sure the Dems will be all over this. "You racist Republicans!" Not that they ever had any use for Mr. Steele, who is a decent man but not what the RNC needs at this time, in my opinion. He's just not that into Tea Party politics, unfortunately.
I'm not concerned about who is the RNC chair, or the DNC chair, etc. I am concerned that both parties seem more interested in the power of the parties than in doing what is best for America. All too often, the chairs and their spokespersons seem to attack whatever the other side is for, regardless of merit. A few years ago, I reminded then-Sen. Mike Dewine (R-OH) he needed to a little less Republican and a lot more American because, of the two, the latter was by far the most important. I don't think he took the hint and neither, would it seem, have just about any other Republican or Democrat politician... unfortunately. Too bad for America.
I find it amusing that all you hear from the liberals is how Steele has to go, yet, Caine that lead the Democrats to a historic slaughter in Nov. will continue on as chairman of the Democratic Party. Slaughter #2 comes in 2012. I wonder if he'll get a third term then. LOL
Slaughter? Is that you Sarah?
Yeah, slaughter is putting it mildly, the largest number of House seats changing party hands in 72 years.
I've heard the talking heads on both sides offer many explanations for the midterm results. I've not heard any of them state "The Leadership of Michael Steele" or "The Lack of Leadership of Tim Kaine" as one of those reasons.
Bah, there is no leader to step up to the presidency on the republican side. Of course, Palin runs through everyone's mind, but she is in it for the money; besides, she would just quit half way thru. Rush makes more money than any political leader, he is content throwing rocks from the sidelines.
The tides change daily. By 2012, are you kidding? There is nothing etched in stone. Who knows? The employment rate may be down to 7 percent, more of the healthcare reform will kick in, and we all know that once the public has something, they don't like losing it (see Police/Fire/SSI/Medicare/ciad). The bank reform could make honest businesses out of them. I'm already in love with many of those changes.
Heck, even Boehner could run for president, he's fund-raising his tail off. 2012 is too far away to call any shots yet.
ask me if I give a damn.
Why is this even news?
Yeah, poor old Michael will be sorely missed...NOT.. Maybe now he can set aside more time for his wild sex parties, he sets up!
Shut him down!
You were my only favoriate rethug Steele. I hate to see you go. Can a man keep his job already! He was the bridge to bring over minorities to the rethug party. Now what are ya'll going to do?
Michael Steele, is now free to announce his bid to run for the 2012 election, he will in the mean time become a news jockey??
To bad Pelosi does not follow Steele example
Two weeks ago it was speculated that he was going to quit. Hold a press conference and he is running - then he quits. What a joke the RNC has become.
Just curious, that single event constitutes "a joke" for the entire RNC? Really? I could not care less I just laugh at such exaggerated statements. Very similar to when, following the 2008 election, Rachel Maddow indicated this was the end of the Republican party. Really...the end. Again, comments like that crack me up.
As long as the tea party and the RNC promote the use of guns to solve problems, they will continue to be in charge. Is that a good thing??
DEMJ, you are absolutely correct. He was only a token for the RNC to go aganist Obama. Like most GOP they will always kick a brother ( I use this term 'brother"loosely for Steele) to the curb once they no longer have use for him.
The chairman's number one job is fund raising. Under Steele, the RNC raised $51 million less than they did in 2006, a 21% drop. I know liberals only look at a person's color when evaluating them, but performance still matters.
Umm MSNBC is always left-wing liberal news. Chris Matthews does work for this network.
And to the alwayls ill-informed liberals Michael Steele was the only one that wanted the job in the aftermath of 2008 election. And Republicans picked up State Legislatures in numerous states including North Carolina that has a Republican legislature for the first time since reconstruction. So Michael Steele can go out knowing that he was a part of that.
Then why did all the Republicans hate him so much and get angry he ran for reelection? With all the success he's had, one would think they would want to continue under his leadership?
I am genuinally curious, since the RNC is acting like they suffered huge losses under him.
how are the Repubs ever going to find another black guy?
