Former Clinton foe Gingrich praises... Clinton

Newt Gingrich has nice things to say about Bill Clinton.

Drawing a distinction between the Democrat he hopes to challenge and the president with whom he once sparred, the White House hopeful and former House Speaker praised Clinton Monday as "a very down home Arkansas kind of guy” with a "common sense understanding of the average person."

That's in contrast, he added, to Barack Obama, whom Gingrich described on the Howie Carr Show as "a Harvard, Columbia, University of Chicago elitist from the most expensive private school in Hawaii, who lives in an elite, radical worldview in his head.”

But Gingrich -- the bomb-throwiest foe of the Clinton administration in the 1990s -- hasn't always hugged the popular former president. Case in point: this interview with the New York Times published two days after the 1994 election.

“That is honestly who he is," Gingrich said of Clinton at the time. "He's a very smart, very clever tactician whose core system of activity is a combination of counterculture and [George] McGovern. He was McGovern's Texas director, he and his wife were counterculture at Yale, and why wouldn't you accept that they really are who they are? Their problem is, that is a contradiction with the vast majority of Americans.”

Of the then-first couple, he added: “They really are left-wing elitists and they really thought the country didn't get it and therefore it was their job to give the country the government that they thought the country needed, even if they didn't want it.”

Typical TeaPublican, when you find yourself on the wrong side of an issue, change your opinion. President William Clinton is now popular, so Gingrich, presidential wannabe, now is making up to him.

Isn't this the same guy who persecuted Clinton and brought the impeachment charges over the President having sex in the whitehouse? I.e. the same guy whose on his THIRD wife, having cheated on the first two ? Pot, I would like to introduce you to kettle.

Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich share something in common - they like to - how do I say it - have a good time?

President Obama is 50, 100 times better than the man Newt is. But that's besides the point.

President Obama is 50, 100 times smarter than Newt is.

This past January marked the 50th Anniversary of when JFK was inaugurated. There was a seminar here in Boston to mark this, and people were constantly amazed at how poll after poll, JFK always scores high numbers, considering all we have learned about him since his death, particularly the womanizing and the Bay of Pigs, as well as when he met Khrushchev in Vienna, which did not go well for JFK. But the polls showed that the reason he scores so high is because of his handling of George Wallace and especially - the Cuban Missile Crisis. And his speech on Civil Rights.

During the Cuba Missile Crisis, President Kennedy had all these weapons at his disposal. He had the Bill Kristol of his day - LeMay and the military- pushing and pushing to bomb the hell out of Cuba. But JFK behaved liked the leader he was was supposed to be. He used constraint during a very difficult time.

And that's why he is still liked to this day.

btw, JFK and Nikita Khrushchev began "talks" shortly before his death and JFK was planning on going Russia to meet with Khrushchev in '64.

Jackie Kennedy and Khrushchev's wife became life long friends. I believe the Kennedys received a puppy from the Khrushchevs.

President Obama would do well to tune out the fringe in this country. And this includes Newt.

"they really thought the country didn't get it and therefore it was their job to give the country the government that they thought the country needed, even if they didn't want it."

And therein lies the problem on both sides.

Mr. Gingrich should really just go away. His 15 minutes was up about a decade and 2 wives ago.

I doubt seriously Mr. Clinton would return the 'kind word' favor.

Although I am sure he stands as 'erectly' patriotic about HIS hard work as Gingrich does!

Stop Hating, Newt!....but wait, Newt has to add the word 'radical'.......fine example of a limited vocabulary when you have to get in the 'talking points'

Does anyone else think that Newtie has a "mancrush" on Clinton?

Not very many conservatives care much about what Gengrich has to say, let alone the rest of us.

Patrick you are so so right about Newtie. If the press would just stop breathlessly reporting every burp out of his mouth as if it were carved on tablets of stone. And Bachmann, and Palin, and Santorum--YAWWWN.

I apologize in advance for name calling but Newt Gingrich is a phony, two-bit, kiss-up liar. He's just trying to get some credit for the policies Clinton initiated that helped the economy by embracing him today and throwing negative garbage at President Obama--in this way, he hopes to fool his base. If he thought that much of Clinton, he certainly did not show it while Clinton was in office. In 10 years, old Newt will be praising President Obama while "exploring a run" for the GOP presidential nominee, receiving lots of campaign donations and pocketing the cash.

This past January marked the 50th anniversary of JFK's inaugeration. There was a seminar here in Boston to mark this moment. And the panelists throughout the day pondered the question of why it was that JFK was still coming out so high in the polls over the years, especially considering what we had learned about him since his death with regard to his womanizing as well as the Bay of Pigs.

And their research showed that Americans appreciated how JFK treated George Wallace; they liked his Civil Rights speech. They felt inspired by his "going to the moon" speech and his decisions especially during the Cuban Missile Crisis. JFK had to deal with his own Bill Kristols & Newts of his day-LeMay and the military. They wanted nothing more than to bomb the heck out of Cuba.

But JFK, despite the best weapons in the world, despite a room full of people who wanted to crush Cuba, he didn't do it. He used constraint. LeMay was beyond furious. Literally. Just like Kristol/Newt of today - bomb first, ask questions later.

After the Cuban Missile Crisis, JFK and Krushchev began "talks". And it turns out, JFK was planning on going to the Soviet Union to visit Krushchev in '64. Jackie Kennedy and Krushchev's wife became life long friends.

That's what happens when you are patient and use common sense, none of which Newt has. What is still open to debate is what JFK would have done in Vietnam. And the opinion was that JFK didn't trust his military and Vietnam would never have become what it had become under LBJ.

JFK left a lasting impression in this country. A very positive lasting impression.

President Obama would do well to stay clear of the fringe element in this country. He is 50, 100 times better man than Newt. But that's not what is important.

What is important is that he is 50, 100 times smarter than Newt.

Does MSNBC play to its far left audience, or what?

Another snarky marginally relevant post about Gingrich (Palin, Bachmann are treated similarly), which is like a slow pitch down the middle; the moonbats can swing for the left field stands, frothing with the usual nasty personal attacks...

So, would this be a "man-crush" or a "bromance"?

So if Obama is as dumb as a box of rocks, then what did you think his predecessor was...a Rhodes scholar, the new Messiah?

Dubyah Bush couldn't even articulate a complete sentence without messing it up.  Barack Obama probably has better table manners and is infinitely more civilized that that Texas yahoo could ever dream of being.

I guess you think 5 colleges in 4 years quitting Palin is a sure ticket in 2012...

Clinton, on the other hand, was a Rhodes scholar.

Too Little too late. Ofcourse Newt sings Bill's praises now because he has nothing to lose, and well... The proof is in the pudding, or the History books. Pres Clinton was the best President of my lifetime so far (I dont care in the least about his sex life or his answer to a question that should have NEVER been asked)and if people had voted with their brains instead of trying to be cool and instead of trying to make some Historical message, Mrs Clinton. perhaps the best Sec of State ever, and certainly the most traveled and hardest working would be our President.

I dont know how I feel about the 2012 election, the fact that Obama has now admited he is not a natural born citizen bothers me on many levels, but it has nothing to do with his agenda, My concern is who is best able and motivated to get the job done and protect the United States.. But is NOT a War Monger. Someone who thinks before they act. And someone with a head for fixing our suffering economy and the Middle class americans
