Ensign ethics investigation to go public today

The case against former Sen. John Ensign (R-NV) will go public today. Sources say Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA), who lead the Senate Ethics Committee, will go to the Senate floor at about 2:00 pm ET and reveal what their 22-month investigation learned. That's rare.

Ensign resigned abruptly hoping to stop the investigation. Boxer and Isakson can recommend the Department of Justice take a look at possible criminal action.

I hate to be cynical here, but what could it possibly be that other members of Congress and Senators haven't done before, and often?

Moms, Pops, employees and hundred thousand plus payoffs are rarely dragged into these messes publicly though. Brazen, he was.

I don't think he really meant for anyone to find that out. Maybe not so much brazen as careless.

You keep on disagreeing with your Liberal buddies and you will soon see their true colors. They will turn on you; it is just a matter of time.

You are the greatest Republican buddy they have until you continuously disagree with them.

And so the hypocritical shenangens WILL see the light of day. Good.

More true colors revealed. More truth will be told.

And AMERICA will see again the weak foundation of this GOP/TP cabal unveiled.

The selective blindness on the RIGHT to see or embrace their constant foibles is so obvious but THIS one is one for the books and just possibly the courts.

Let Justice, Law, and Order prevail, I say.

There's your Rangle mention Fiesty! It took longer that I thought. (exactly 49 minutes)

I'm not counting Grimey's 'cause his was an honest gut response.

Rangle is the choice of HIS constituents just as Demint is HIS constituent choice. I wouldn't vote for Demint but many down his way do. None of my business, no matter the unseemly nature of how bad Rangles record-keeping skills are or how he skirts legality with his financial dealings. There are many of elephant and donkey characters who have plunged their hand in the porverbial DC honey pot. Doesn't look pretty on either species.

And hey 3 wolves the tickle fest with interns was one of your guys. Own him. That's the blind part. See?

    We own our bad apples

If this statement was so then why won't you all own former President Bush and Vice President Cheney for the crimes they committed against this nation...better yet the world?

I also recall that Rangel DID face the Ethics Committed and was censored. I don't take kindly to any party that commit crimes while representing the citizen of this nation...

LOL - sorry to start off laughing. But I just saw Orrin Hatch a Republican - double talk in an effort to defend his wealthy oil buddies.

I listen for a bit when he started talking about high gas prices and how it affect everyday Americans in a negative way.

Then he flipped it - somehow the suffering of Moms and Dads at the pump...became a reason why Democrats want to rise taxes and punish the Oil and Gas companies for recieving wind fall profits.

People - we need to boot every GOP/TP out of office; especially the long/old timers. Their pockets are laced by the wealthy and they don't give a damn about average American - and only use U.S. has a pity tool to continue helping the most wealthy.

Not so surpising Orrin Hatch focused most of his BS on why we should not raise taxes, or mess with the Oil and Gas companies ...but he didn't mention one concrete thing about what he would do to help stop the high gas prices and help the Moms and Dads at the pump.

The GOP/TP are shameful and shameless !!! Stop the double talking BS!!

    TRUTH-not CRAP

Thank you and GOD BLESS AMERICA

Decades ago, Hall Of Fame pitcher and noted eccentric/oddball Dizzy Dean took a line drive to the head. Results of the x-ray were chronicled in a headline that read "X-rays of Dean's Head Finds Nothing". The implication being that he was brainless. NOW, do you get it! Sheesh!!!!

Maybe in 10 years or so, we can read headlines that say "Ensign got some", and use it whenever we want to make a point about someone completely not related to the conversation.

Hey, wait a minute- this sounds so, well, familiar somehow....

This is good news from the Senate. Ensign resigned and usually when a representative or senator resigns, the details of the investigation are filed away for posterity and the legislator goes off to live a happy, quiet life and we never learn the details of the ethics investigations. Releasing their investigation is a step forward in more transparency.

When legislators resign, they usually do so to keep the results quiet. Cheers to the Senate for releasing the results and informing the people, positive or negative.

LMAO Jody the consistent use of the FoIA brings those results out eventually anyway so now instead of them coming out later they are just aired now and no one remembers after a week.

        Reply#9 - Thu May 12, 2011 2:50 PM EDT

That's my point, Ray. Get them out without a lot of court cases and years of legal battles to keep them quiet. The public has a right to know without filing law suits to get the results.

Thanks to both Boxer and Iskason for bringing Ensign before the ethics committee with this bipartisan approach. If American citizens are required to follow the letter of law, then so should elected public officials.

Actually they should be held to much higher standards. Its time we stop giving passes to those we elect to serve us in public office when they commit crimes while serving in office.

It doesn't matter if its a Democrat,Republican or Independent. Had we demanded investigations into the actions of the President and Vice President (instead of fearing national embarrassment) we as a people would be much better off and the bickering and lies would cease to a point that we would be discussing topics of importance such as how to rebuild our nation.

          chilled,

My President refuses to investigate the actions of the previous administration!

I have wondered why our President didn't as well and I remember a statement he made that we must look forward, although I disagree with his approach concerning the previous administration, I can't help but marvel since the death of OBL that much of what he has refused too do is actually being uncovered and revealed to the public without the benefit of investigations...

I too am interested in how AG Holder handles the Ensign crime...I'm not interested in a witch hunt or an MSM circus, I want to see a public official that's committed a crime receive the same punishment for the crime as an everyday hard working tax paying citizen receives...

The list of unethical behavior spewed on by the GOP/RNC is massive, and growing everyday. "Unethical Ensigh" is just another "Gross Odd Person (GOP) caught in act of ethical violations. "Trampy Trump," "Nutty Newt," and "Tom DaLaid." The "Carnival Of Clowns" just keeps on rolling down that political road, and right off the political cliff. What a joke America!

Ensign did'nt do any thing wrong. The democrat party and Obongo is useing power to destory their political oponents. Ensign worked with his church group to reconsile with his wide and with God, no more need to be done. The goverment has no right to interfere in a personal matter.

Did you say that when they skewered Clinton? What about Edwards, we should have just made him president. Ensign resigned. Why, if he did nothing wrong?

I guess you will be first in line to vote for Newt and all those wonderful folks, with christian values. The ones who lean to one side when they walk in to church, because the bible is so heavy on the other side.
