Trump not running for president

Businessman and television personality Donald Trump said that he will not run for the White House in 2012.

Real estate mogul Donald Trump will not be a candidate for president in 2012.

The New York businessman bounded onto the scene with explosive rhetoric, catering to the fringe "birther" movement, raising questions about President Obama's place of birth, as well as the president's record as a student. (For the record, Obama was born in Hawaii and graduated magna cum laude from Harvard and served as editor of the Harvard Law Review.)

When the president released his long-form birth certificate, Trump took a measure of credit.

Trump rocketed to near the top of national polls and even polled well in a few surveys in New Hampshire. But much of the air was taken out of any potential Trump campaign, when Obama derided him as a "carnival barker," and then (along with comedian Seth Myers) skewered Trump at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

NBC News' Domenico Montanaro talks about the real estate mogul's decision not to be a GOP candidate for the White House in 2012.

"Donald Trump said that he was running for president as a Republican," Myers said. "That's funny, because I thought he was running as a joke."

That may be, but in the March NBC/WSJ poll, Trump was second only to Mitt Romney in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. He pulled in 17% of the vote, tied with Mike Huckabee. Romney led the field with 21%, Newt Gingrich got 11%, Sarah Palin 10%.

What is notable in all this is that the people who pulled in almost half -- 44% -- of support from Republicans in that poll won't likely be running. Huckabee said Saturday night he's out; Trump said so today; and Palin is thought to be unlikely to launch a bid.

That said, national polls don't mean much when it comes to presidential politics. Rudy Giuliani, for example, led in most national polls on the GOP side this time in 2007. They're just a small measure of the energy and buzz around a candidate.

This is the third time Trump flirted with a presidential bid -- once in 1987 and then in 2000. Trump contended in a 2000 George magazine piece, “I’m the only one who makes money when he runs.”

But his business interests were likely at the center of all this. "Celebrity Apprentice" was renewed for next season on NBC, and Trump had to decide if he was going to be back as its host or run for president.

It's not clear, however, what damage may have been done to his show or business interests because of the politics he played. His "birther" statements and his questioning of Obama's prowess in the classroom angered many African Americans. Before he went full bore on the "birther" issue, African Americans had a favorable opinion of Trump in the February NBC/WSJ poll.

Trump's ratings took a dive, according to The Atlantic's Joshua Green, and Groupon pulled its ads from "Celebrity Apprentice."

Of course, most observers never thought Trump would run, because of the requirement that candidates file a financial disclosure form.

Here's the full statement below. More to come.

For Immediate Release:

New York, New York: May 16, 2011

After considerable deliberation and reflection, I have decided not to pursue the office of the Presidency. This decision does not come easily or without regret; especially when my potential candidacy continues to be validated by ranking at the top of the Republican contenders in polls across the country. I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election. I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.

I want to personally thank the millions of Americans who have joined the various Trump grassroots movements and written me letters and e-mails encouraging me to run. My gratitude for your faith and trust in me could never be expressed properly in words. So, I make you this promise: that I will continue to voice my opinions loudly and help to shape our politician's thoughts.

My ability to bring important economic and foreign policy issues to the forefront of the national dialogue is perhaps my greatest asset and one of the most valuable services I can provide to this country. I will continue to push our President and the country's policy makers to address the dire challenges arising from our unsustainable debt structure and increasing lack of global competitiveness. Issues, including getting tough on China and other countries that are methodically and systematically taking advantage of the United States, were seldom mentioned before I brought them to the forefront of the country's conversation.

They are now being debated vigorously. I will also continue to push for job creation, an initiative that should be this country's top priority and something that I know a lot about. I will not shy away from expressing the opinions that so many of you share yet don't have a medium through which to articulate.

I look forward to supporting the candidate who is the most qualified to help us tackle our country's most important issues and am hopeful that, when this person emerges, he or she will have the courage to take on the challenges of the Office and be the agent of change that this country so desperately needs.

Thank you and God Bless America!

I was actually starting to think he might of run, after all, that SUPER size ego of his requires daily feeding!

Something tells me, the financial disclosure might of been a tad embarrassing! lol

Didn't he promise something about revealing them WHEN President Obama produced his long form birth certificate? *tick tock*

Oh well, here I was SO looking forward to American's telling this jerk that he is FIRED! ;o)

PS: His race baiting was helping his cause either...

Correct, Feisty. After The Donald made that snafu doubting President Obama's citizenship, and then backing up that doubt with The Donald's offer to release his tax information if and when President Obama released his long-form birth certificate, well, The Donald made a phoney promise he knew he would never keep. Not to mention the fact that The Donald has made more enemies over the past 30 days than he has made friends.

Congratulations to EVERYONE who predicted that The Donald would NOT really be running for POTUS.

No Huckleberry or Trump, woe is me ;-) Trump is a moron, not a fool. Or is it an idiot, not a fool. A moronic idiot, but not a fool....

I'll miss having him spanked by the pundits. All is not lost, there is Gingrich, Bachmann and Palin.

Not a big shock....and not like he hasn't the ego for it..BUT public disclosure of all his financial dealings, tax returns, divorce degree's, pre-nups, partnerships, particial partnerships, endorsements, limited partnerships, stocks, bonds, various bankrupsies, home values ALL put a blind trust....no way he would run..."I want to remain in the private sector", indeed, and besides, he's renegotiated his contract for Celebrity Apprentice....so what's the point anymore...and Obama hurt his feeling and ego at the Correspondance dinner...so back to Trump Enterprises!

Not much of a shocker, is it, folks?

As I wrote some time ago after one of his nutjob appearances, Trump was never serious about running. Instead, he was part of a very slimy strategy to try and push the fringes out farther, expand a base of voters who would never voted for President Obama, endorse the President's programs, or have a kind word to say about him.

Trump was simply a shrill shill for the right wing nut jobs.

He's going to continue to push his agenda, hey? He'll probably get more attention if he remembers his red clown nose and does something about the foul face he makes when speaking. When Trump starts to talk, he looks just like he's been dosed with vinegar.

Guess Trump and Huckabee just didn't have that "fire in their belly" to run for office. I'll let you in on a secret...Neither does Mitch Daniels.

He likes people talking about him running. It flatters his ego. But he and the rest of the GOP/TP are running on empty.

Bummer. I really wanted to see the politicos go ape over his "huge financials". LOL, oh well, Trump did his job correctly for the Establishment, now he gets to bow out for a while.

Looking back, I feel Trump was nothing more than a blatant mouth-piece for the hard-right wing. He was used to state the more politically-inflammatory things that polished politicians could not say for fear of public scrutiny.

Mission accomplished! The GOP gets to spout whatever obnoxious drivel they can muster to fire up the "base", and Trump gets a boost to his lagging reality-shows. Win-win situation for our Washington friends.

Phfffft..........good riddance, I say.

Kudo's to MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell, he called it at least 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was a great con, and really had the rightie's knickers in a twist. They are so easily led, it is laughable, suck it up tea baggers, you were had!

Good to see that this sham businessman and entertainer won't run.

Here is a thought. As the GOP politicians are out to work and enrich big business,I say NBC should try a new format for "The Apprentice."

Keep Donald as his normal belligerent, cocky, ego driven self. He would stay on as host, but switch it up by making the "Apprentice" seekers the GOP field. I would love to see Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Michelle Bachman, Santorum and maybe Palin vie for the supposed "kingmaker's" approval.

Apprentice Palin would imitate real life by starting the show then leaving to write a book. Ha, that would be funny to watch.

Who ever took Donald Trump to run for the Election in 2012 is gullible.

He had NO intentions of running, but to get Obama to finally show Americans his birth certificate of which he avoided doing, trying to expose O's weaknesses.. Those questions and others must be answered by all Presidents who are running, so the voter can really know what and who they are voting for.

Hopefully, all voters will do their research on every candidate before they make the decision. We don't need Presidents who play mind games with us. That is very childish and manipulative.

He has not had any personal bankruptcies. just corporate, which is a business tool all business people have at hand to use. At some point someone will rise up into the right position. Many people have not declared until the fall before election year. Plenty of room. What I do like is that Mr. Obama is rasing unprecedented amounts of cash, like he knows he is in for a long nasty battle to get reelected. He is not acting like a man that is sure of election!

          DB Akron,

Trump NEVER intended to run for the office of President of the United States. He did intend to get his name and face splashed across as many T.V.'s as possible, which he accomplished with a grade of A+! All this presidential charade was to enhance his brand which is the TRUMP Brand! He ALWAYS does his best--to enhance his brand (Trump) and massage his enormous ego! For all of the psudo-humor here, the joke is on the liberals! Trump never intended on running but he sure did rile all you up! How many other people do you know that could force the president's hand in anything? Obama bowed to Trump when he produced his birth certificate. That was funny!

Why would Obama produce it otherwise? It didn't seem to bother Obama that a huge portion of the population questioned the origin of his birth... but Trump made him show it. No matter how you spin it, score one - Trump... score zero - Obama.

If a flawed man such as Trump could garner that much political support, imagine the dark horse that no one is expecting to emerge trounce on Obama. I know the liberals will be screaming and yelling their perverbial emotional brains out, but it won't help Obama one bit.

It's a long way to election day... Trump, with his flaws, has shown that a really good candidate can take the wind out of Obama's sails.

You're about as Funny as Trump is BrianB.

President Obama called him a Carnival Barker, No reply from Trump.

President Obama dressed Trump down at the WH Correspondents Dinner(along with Seth Myers) & he sat thier Red Faced, knowing he could Only Sit & Take It or Getup & Leave, either way, Trump was mage a Fool of.

The next day, President Obama interupts Trumps TV show to announce that Binladen has been Killed.

In 4 days time President Obama treated Trump like the Bully that he thought he was, he Cutem up & Shutem Up!

Thats what ya do to Bully's with a Microphone & a MSM enamored with Entertainment TV disguised as Politics.

Birdman2010: Had Trump decided to run for the presidency, a perfect running mate for him would have been Rod Blagojevich — finished as a viable Democratic candidate of any kind, always champing at the bit for publicity and recognition of any kind, no sense of ethics or morality of any kind. A kindred spirit. Someone Trump can truly understand.

The most amusing statement of all was when Donald Trump said he was certain if he had run, he would "win the primary and the general election."

            Folks:

"Donald Trump said that he was running for president as a Republican," Myers said. "That's funny, because I thought he was running as a joke."

That may be, but in the March NBC/WSJ poll, Trump was second only to Mitt Romney in the race for the GOP presidential nomination. He pulled in 17% of the vote, tied with Mike Huckabee. Romney led the field with 21%, Newt Gingrich got 11%, Sarah Palin 10%.

and people think Ron Paul is crazy....look at this ridiculous cluster of knuckleheads, and what's nuttier is look at their polling numbers....WTF is going on in Dumboland, the pachyderms are runnin' wild!

For all of the psudo-humor here, the joke is on the liberals! Trump never intended on running but he sure did rile all you up! How many other people do you know that could force the president's hand in anything? Obama bowed to Trump when he produced his birth certificate. That was funny!

            Umm brianb

I truly admire your commitment to pretzel logic. I can't wait to see the next candidate your team trots out. No doubt they will have SUCH a love for this country that marrying their cousin or favorite pet will have been the ULTIMATE act of Patriotism.

If you think President Obama's hand was forced, you really just ARE that simple. Good luck with that nose ring - cuz' you are sure the one being LED.

What was TRULY funny was how President Obama sucked the air out of Mr Trump's campaign, as well as all the other boneheaded fools pushing the "birther" lies. As proof I say ummm , how much is the "birther" theory being talked about now? Or even any of the other crackpot theories and lies that the "birther"s have come up with since "birtherism" crashed and burned? Practically none, except to show what fools they appear to be. Releasing the birth certificate isnt about who made President Obama release it - its about the fact the the birther crap is just that - a steaming pile of crap. Releasing the birth certificate fully allowed Mr Trump to appear as the complete and utter moron that he is, not to say that Mr Trump wasnt doing a bang up job of it himself (I have a great relationship with the blacks. I’ve always had a great relationship with the blacks. or Mr Trumps racist lies and innuendo about President Obama getting into Hardvard on some sort of a race quote. Donald Trump is a liar and he cynicall used the election process for his own personal gain when he had no intention of running at any time - and that should be a crime. Calling Mr Trump flawed is the understatement of the election season so far - he's now a laughingstock.

"peeler" I agree with you! It was both funny, and FUN to watch Barack Obama TRUMP "The Donald." The problem with people like Trump is that they're not bright enough to have a sense of humor, and they're dumb enough to believe their own hype. His type DO make for mucho comedic relief however, and Barack Obama, bright and witty man that he is used Trump to his FULL ADVANTAGE.

Now Donald can go back to what he does best: his medicine side show that involves overpriced, tacky real estate, and his snarky TV show that stars B list "celebrities."

Tim Pawlenty is the man for President in 2012. In his two terms as governor of Minnesota, he "has used innovative and conservative leadership to balance the state’s budget, cut spending, reform health care and improve schools without raising taxes. Under his leadership, Minnesota has nation-leading health care, the highest school test scores, and a leading economy." We now need him to do the same for the country. Our current "community organizer" President isn't getting it done, his budgeting skills are horrible and Obamacare is a travesty.

Why would Obama produce it otherwise? It didn't seem to bother Obama that a huge portion of the population questioned the origin of his birth... but Trump made him show it. No matter how you spin it, score one - Trump... score zero - Obama.

Gee, Brian, did you notice how after his disastrous, profanity-laced speech in Las Vegas on April 29 and his public humiliation at the White House Correspondents Dinner on April 30, we didn't hear a word from The Donald? President Obama called him by his true name — just as the beautiful queen did to Rumpelstiltskin in the fairy tale — and just like Rumpelstiltskin, Trumpelstiltskin was so enraged that he tore himself in two and vanished into thin air!

It amazes me how anyone can question President Obama's birthplace. We send folks to the moon surely that would have come out prior to him successfully winning.

What amazes me more is how blatant racists are allowed to disrespect our president. This includes trump, tea party, and the old geezer's that got us into this big mess. I applaud Mr. Obama for making politics transparent, getting rid of Osama, health care reform not perfect but better for the masses, saving our auto industry and making them accountable, stimulus for home buyers, better international relationships, and the list goes on.

trump, you are a fool. I realize now your success is luck not smarts. By the way do you have a degree? Hopefully your children are wiser and won't be judged by your behavior.

Yes, we had a fun time watching and listening to The Donald being. . well, The Donald. But TRUST ME, NO ONE believed he was going to run for POTUS. If you read the article, it plainly states Donald Just Got Trumped "considered" gunning for the position in two prior election years. Trump's poll numbers, at least prior to his public self-inflicted beat down, were high because he spoke the language of vitriol & hate that the fringe bigots so dearly love, not to mention giving the folks at Faux News "new and improved talking points." Of course he was going to appeal to others who are just like him, with the exception of his morals or lack thereof, I would hope. All in all, I would say the entertainment factor was pretty darn good, and I do believe the Bulgarian judge gave it a 10! Now, back to work you go, Mr. Grump! Oh, and YOU'RE FIRED! I'm waiting with baited breath to see which Republican, Conservative and/or Tea Party Clown they test-float next. Watch closely, people. This is gonna be a GOOD one!

Ahhhh the sweet sweet libs have spoken. I'll give you that Obama ridiculed Trump at the correspondence dinner. How presidential of him. More like a revengeful, hatefilled president that was forced to do something that no one else could make him do. If you feel that tactic is a good one then I'll bet you enjoy pulling tails off of cats too.

I never believed Trump was going to run for president. The libs took off after him like rats after a piece of food. I have to admit it has been extremely humorous watching the libs foam their hatred against anyone that might present a challenge to the liberal god Obama. The liberals have become a cesspool of hatred. Funny, I never hear the liberals explain where Obama is taking care of the national debt... oooops... sorry... I think I just poured water all over table.

Since you liberals just LOVE Obama to death, it might be a similar experience when the economy crashes under the $14 Trillion load we carry. 45% of that debt was added by Obama himself. I guess that's why liberals are so touchy about Obama. They try to defend him while knowing that they might be standing in long long food lines in the near future. Love him or hate him... Obama is the most financially irresponsible president this country has ever known. 45% of the national debt belongs to him. Do the math... if you don't know how.. I'll spell it out for you:

Debt at Obama Start: $10 Trillion

              Debt Obama added: $4.5 Trillion

              4.5/10 = 45%

If you argue that the numbers should be $14 Trillion and $4.5 Trillion then the amount he added was 32% - I don't care how you argue it... Obama is IRRESPONSIBLE! And... you will suffer when it collapses. This is only after 2 1/2 years.... wait until we reach 4 years...

Lawrence O’Donnell has also predicted that Tim Pawlenty will rise to the top of the heap because the other candidates are so flawed. That prediction did not include Mitch Daniels, but his entry would not change things in my book. Poor thing, his wife divorced him for three years because he was so boring.

              So, what happened?

Nothing that has not happened before.

This is not Trump's first rodeo-he has "played" the I-just-might- run-for-president card before. The difference this time was the amount of media attention given him.

See, in the past, he was pretty much ignored. Not now.

Ah, well, I imagine that we will be inundated with news of every Palin sneeze, or Bachmann cough, until the GOP has a candidate. Then, they will pump those two as VP candidates, until there is an actual candidate.

Too bad they do not do the same for Kucinich. He is just as nuts, just as unqualified- but, alas, he is a democrat, as is Obama, so his ego gets to starve.

And now a plug for my personal candidate of choice. Mitt Romney is still the man. Now that distractor candidates are falling away (Trump and Huckabee) Mitt is the only logical choice. I would just ask that people do a little homework, ignore the rhetoric from his former apponents and just really listen to what he is saying. If you don't agree with his take on things thats fine but please stop bashing the man becasue of his religion or how clean cut he is. This country needs someone to turn this economy around and we need him now.

my gut feeling says that Romney might be among the more moderate of the republicans however, he knows how hard right he'll have to veer to get thru the primaries. He's already lying through his teeth about the Mass healthcare initiative and why he would not support it nationally. He's just kowtowing to his corporate whore money masters, just like all the rest of the Republican candidates. Except maybe the Tea Baggers - and they'll realize soon enough that, if they dont get in line for the corporate Republican Money Teat, that they'll be left behind....

Peeler: your comment is reflective if what a lot of people are saying so I don't fault you for saying it, but Romney is NOT lying. If anything he is being incredibly honest. That is why I'm begging people to listen to what he is saying. The biggest difference between Romney care and Obama care is the level at which it was run, State vs. Federal. It is a huge difference. I have already blogged about this at length on other threads. If all Romney cared about was getting the far right vote he would have disavowed his health care plan as a huge mistake and moved on. But he won't. I hope people are smart enough to ask the question; Why won't he just disavow it? And then do enough research to answer their own question.

All the while, Mitt Romney will be carefully hovering in the background and snag the GOP prize just before the final bell rings. Unfortunately for Gov. Romney, his chances of winning the presidential election will be thwarted by his Mormon beliefs which will promptly be rejected by the fundamentalist and mainstream Christians, a big chunk of the vote.

I was hoping Trump would run. At least I would have some one to vote for again. Last guy I voted for was Ross Parot. Close to Trump in success. Made his money off government programs. Knew what the real story was. Talked the same story. If he went about it right Trump could get the working people on his side by clamping on job stealing imports. HOWEVER the Half breed Kenyan would pull out his race card and the bleeding hearts would blindly fall in line like goslings following their mama to water. Just as Hillery about the race card. She got hammered by it.

Seta - half breed Kenyan? What an ignorant pathetic comment to make. He is as American as you - maybe more so. As far as half-breed - what are you 100 years old? That stupidity is so beyond intelligence. I can't believe anyone today would make such a stupid remark.

RHINO - nope - Mitt Romney's healthcare is just like President Obama's plan. Mitt isn't anything new and certainly is no one people can trust.

W.Goin: Question- why exactly can't you trust him? If you are going to throw out an accusation like that you should really have something to back it up.

Fact- State run and federal run programs are not the same.

                1. The Obama plan is a federal monstrosity without cost controls and heavy with red tape. Romney's plan amounted to less than 1% of the states budget and can be easily changed if there are aspects to it the states don't like, without federal involvement.

                2. Romneys plan was chosen by and for the people of their own state. Obama's plan is forced upon all of us whether we like him or not. This means people in Texas are having their health care decisions made for them by, well, every other state.

                3. A state run program can be run on a budget. Nobody has any idea what the federal program will cost. In a time of 1.4 Trillion dollar deficits, that's a big problem.

Bottom line, Romneys plan was imperfect but it was managable and it can be tweaked and fine tuned by the very people the plan effects. You cannot say the same about a federal plan. No matter who the president is.

Everyone can make fun of Trump here but I am sure he accomplished the goals he had in mind with this. He never planned on running for POTUS but what do you call free advertising? Publicity! Just the fact that you are all talking about him and his show and his business says it all.

I wouldn't have voted for Trump, if he stayed in, but admire him for his courage! So far he's the only one out there that isn't afraid of being attacked by the libbie media, nor is he afraid of being called a racist for merely telling the truth and asking honest questions of Obama!

There are several good candidates out there that could run rings around Obama and I'm sure we haven't heard the last from Trump, even as a non-candidate!

O'Donnell wasn't the first nor the only one in the media to predict Trump would pull out folks....

Actually I expect Newt will be encouraged as he is likely to soar in the pools this week. Why? He is the 'flavor of the month' and two others (Trumper and Huckathumper) are not in it.

Simple math and timing. With less competition he can pick up some. This will make him feel like he has a chance...of course he doesn't.

Reps love the flavor of the month--Last Month it was Trumper, this Month it is Newt, Next Month...another ..ah well

The Donald embarrassed the heck out of himself when he came out on the side of the psychos with that birth certificate crap and then lied and said he would release his tax information.

I don't think we have to worry about The Donald running for any public office, that is, not until he releases that tax information he promised.

Trump is not one tough cookie. He is a bully. If you have ever confronted a bully in your past you might have have learned one truth about all bullies. They use bullying as a shield against their own delicate underbelly. Invariably, if you see through their tough facade, you can make them crumble. They quickly turn into a coward. Obama ridiculed Trump and what has been Trump's response. He has cowared. That was totally predictable.

Trump is not a tough cookie, he is more of a Store Brand Cracker. Tacky and very common.

In NYC he has not had a successful development in years. He toyed with the Empire State Building and fell on his face. Trump Soho is a disaster with more lawsuits over false statements made by developers, He lost his tiny percentage in the West Side Yards when the partners sold it and did not even consult him. In FT Lauderdale his towers went Bankrupt and the buyers have not received back their deposits which are supposed to be in escrow by law., In Las Vegas he has Ghost Towers, He lost all ownership in the Atlantic City Casinos. He is all 'show & blow' and no substance.

It wasn't logical for Trump to become president. He has zero political experience when it comes to Washington. That should have been the first tell to you. The second tell was his expression. Third tell was siding with the birthers. I guess you all missed these things that were smacking of him not running.

I guess some liberals are easily fooled. Speaks volumes about their choices.

Brianb - Most liberals, in fact, most people, knew that he would not run and recognized his ridiculous comments for what they were. My concern was that he was vicously smearing President Obama's character for a publicity stunt. That is truly despicable.

You speak of his expression. In my opinion, his always wore a smug expression. However, that was not telling, in itself.

You speak of his support for the birthers. Well, there is still a signicant percentage of people who still believe the President Obama is not a natural-born citizen; he was pandering to those people.

I don't what his motivation was, especially as he advocated for univeral health care and taxing the wealthy just a few years ago. Self-promotion? I don't know. But, you are correct'; he certainly caused a stir among the media.

Mary, I'll respond to your statement because it has the most meat on it.

Do I think liberals are that stupid? Well, I do. I have reasons for why I believe that. Just look at the posts by the liberals on this board. 99.9% of them are calling Donald Trump rediculous names. They are expressing their pent up hatred for anyone that would challenge the liberal god Obama.

Just look at the stupidity that is being written down. It's a feeding frenzy of lunacy. Most of the remarks are extremely childish as if children are behind the keyboards. I make a point that Trump did something that nobody else could - force Obama's hand into producing his birth certificate and everyone comes unglued. Well did Trump cause Obama to come up with his birth certificate or not? The answer has to be a resounding yes. Now if that offends liberals, then too bad.

What offends me is the $4.5 trillion dollars Obama has added to the national debt. He is responsible for adding 45% to it. Obama is historical, for sure. The president that has spent the most money in history. What say you Mary?

Brian, Trump may have forced the production of the birth certificate, but is it a valid one? If you look at it, there is an obvious error on it, that would appear to have been written in 2011, but not in 1961. Look at the race listed for his father on the certificate. It is wrong.

schi - sorry but you are wrong. Obama has added $4.5 Trillion to the national debt in 2 1/2 years. It was $10 trillion when he took office. Today we reached the debt ceiling of $14.5 Trillion. The money Bush spent on the wars was in the $10 trillion.

Bob - its anyone's guess if it's real or not. Forgeries are made all the time. I have a problem with the number on it.

                          Brianb,

You don't get it. Trump was putty in Obama's hands. Obama baited him and Donald fell into the President's hands. It was way too easy. You have it switched around. Did you not see how Obama toyed with Trump, bringing forth of the sacred birth certificate, complimenting him on his fake business cahones, then making a fool of him? It was a beautiful thing to watch. Bring on your next victim. It's pretty hot in this kitchen. Trump couldn't take the heat. He's going to run every four years for the publicity because the one thing he can't stand is being ignored.

Brian B: I don't judge any one persuasion by comment boards on a website, and I can assure you democrats weren't afraid of Donald Trump. I, like many, was hoping he was serious purely for comic relief. Would have been the best election yet. Donald Trump, Sarah Palin, and Michelle Bachmann are not now and never were relevant contenders. Period.

You, on the other hand, come across pretty narrow minded and illogical in your posts. It was summed up above. You are rambling on about "libs" being fooled by Trump, but he polled well amongst REPUBLICANS as a Presidential contender. Spin that one dude.

Jack Colton - I have been contending on these boards that Trump wasn't ever going to make the decision to jump into the ring. I've been saying it for weeks. I am also saying that Gingrich, Romney and Pawlenty will never make it to the top either. I knew weeks ago that Huckabee wouldn't run. I have been saying all along that any republican that throws his hat into the ring is really dumb. With the economy the way it is, it won't be long before it comes crashing down on top of us. I'd much rather have Obama take the fall for it than anyone else.

I don't have to spin anything. I'm not a republican. But... watching the liberals on these boards go after anyone that challenges, or even presents a challenge to the Obama god, creates a furvor of foam spitting liberals. I get more entertainment value out of watching liberals do the attack dog thing on anyone that even crosses that line. Liberals have presented themselves as nasty, angry little children. For that purpose, Trump did make liberals look like fools. Pure entertainment.

BrianB - No one is or was afraid of Donald Trump. And, he didn't make President Obama do anything. Obama just waited until Trump looked like the total fool he is to re-release his birth certificate. And, you should read your own post. President Obama has NOT added the most to the national deficit. Why do you GOPers think you can just make things up and people will believe you. Oh, that's right - that's what Republicans do! And, if anyone has presented themselves as nasty, pitiful little children it is the far right. They have called our President every nasty name in the book and reviled him from day one. Pathetic little creatures! That totally fits Republicans!

One down, two female jokers left to go! It's going to be very embarrassing at the convention with everyone there, sitting on their hands, with no one to nominate. They had better start looking for someone who could do the job. I can think of a few but the GOP seems to favor dumster diving.

I agree with you! What has happen to common sense, intelligence, and just a basic understanding of the problems that all of us as Americans must face. We need to take a good hard look at what is happening to our nation....it is not good.

In addition what has happen to conversations or communications that have substance in them with facts and documented proof.? What I hear on these post are very one-sided, non-factual comments; with the intent to belittle, destroy others with their ugly comments.

Trump may not be a good choice for president but he has managed to make himself an icon, and a very rich one at that.

What not address the real issues that we face here in America?

                            1. ALL PRESIDENTS must be held accountable for the condition of the economy..period! and frankly we must ask the question, is our economy better or worse? Has the financial strength of our country improved under Obama's watch? or sadly has it gotten worse?

                            2. What is he doing about unemployment? Still not much better after all these months in office.

                            3. What about the real estate market? Our homes have lost 30 to 50 percent of their values. New construction is still at an all-time low.

                            4. What is he doing about the high cost of gas? Is there an end to the rising cost?

                            5. With the richest natural resources, why are we not growing our own food here in America? Why are we depending on imports of poor quality?

                            7. What about job creation? What has this administration done to stop the decline in jobs in America?

                            8. Why do we continue to give billions to terrorist countries when millions of Americans are suffering from so many natural disasters?

                            9. Why do we allow our government to continue to steal funds from the millions of Americans that paid into social security and will get nothing in return?

Just so you liberals know this, not that many Republicans are rich, most of us are just average people who have worked our entire life just to make a living for our family. And, wasn't it your president that continued to do the corporate bail outs like GE, banks, etc. Isn't that helping the rich at the expense of the poor? And, take a look at Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, wasn't it under the leadership of Barney Franks a democrat that voted to free up lending to even those who couldn't repay their loans....thus starting the failure of so many banks. So let's give credit where credit is due.

schi - So what is it to you? It's not the democrats that I have a problem with. I have a problem with liberals. I don't care that Obama is a democrat... I do care that he is a progressive liberal and he's following his agenda to a tee. Obama is very successful at pushing his programs and his agenda items. If anything he deserves credit for getting what he wants done.

It's what he's done that I can't stand. He spent a whole year on Obamacare while the reported unemployment rate was teetering on 10%. He has many options to improve gasoline prices but he wants it at or near $5.00 per gallon... watch and see if it doesn't get there under his administration. Obama is an ideologue and he has a plan to change this country.... but the change is against our constitution and the people of this land. You just don't see it for what it is because you don't have a constitutional background and you were never taught civics in high school. I dare say you don't even know the responsibilities of the president. You see him doing things you think are correct, but they are totally wrong.

I wish Obama was the other way. I'd support him and you'd hate him.

Brianb - "Do I think liberals are that stupid? Well, I do. I have reasons for why I believe that. Just look at the posts by the liberals on this board. 99.9% of them are calling Donald Trump rediculous names. They are expressing their pent up hatred for anyone that would challenge the liberal god Obama."

Well, I agree with you that many posters on these vines call people ridiculous names. In fact, every time I peruse these vines, I see a new name for President Obama - Obozo, Obummer, Odumbo, Obami, Obamimammy, etc. However, many posters call President Bush "Dubya,", "W," and "Shrub." All of these names are disrespectful.

Also, I am a conservative Democrat and have no use for the far right or the far left. However, I don't take issue with anyone who challenges the "liberal God Obama," as you refer to him. I take issue with someone who I feel is using the presidential election as a publicity stunt and in doing so, attempts to smear President Obama's character. That is much different than challenging him.

BrianB: Mary pretty much summed up what I was going to reply, Trump was not someone who challenged President Obama. That's like saying Democrats don't like Sarah Palin because they are "afraid of her." Donald Trump was being skewered by both sides, and for very very very very good reason. He's about as credible in business as Gloria Allred is as an attorney. 80% showmanship, 20% substance. Just read that it may come out in court that more than 5 "Trump" properties are just other people's buildings with a licensing agreement.

I'm not getting into a point-by-point debate on partisan policy as I'm not trying to change anyone's political views on a comment board, but I will say that my biggest issue with Republicans, particularly Congressional Republicans, is that they are by far the worse of the two evils when it comes to selling policy and legislation for campaign contributions. Democrats do it too, but Republicans have a much longer and more devastating track record of stripping away consumer safeguards and sensible government oversight in the name of "free market / deregulation." Aka: Letting their donors get away with murder at our expense, and then making their supporters think its in their best interest. No thanks.

I still like all the banks and financial institutions that were "too big to fail," yet how much were they held responsible for wiping trillions of dollars from American's retirement funds? How many safeguards have been put in place in the time since? Wall Street should have been turned upside down and inside out after September 2008. Failure on Obama's part, definite failure by Congress.

I know it's real late and this probably won't get read, but, just in case someone goes back to it tomorrow... Jack and Mary - I do agree that Trump was using the opportunity for showmanship. I just love bugging the heck out of liberals. See how many of them attacked me after my comments? What I said was technically right, but the defense of Obama was incredible. You gotta admit that Obama was placed in a quandry about the birth certificate. To me that was more than amusing. I could say a lot about why, but since it's late I'll save it in case this vine continues through tomorrow.

For as much as the disrespect of the president... I don't disrespect the office at all. I do disrespect the current occupant of that office because his liberal agenda is taking us in a direction that will be extremely hard to reverse.

Jack - I agree with your assessment of republicans. They don't handle things well, especially when they have the power. They capitulate too much and water down their core values to their detrement. It's hard to trust them because their track record stinks. They are the lesser of two evils in my mind although I wish it weren't that way at all.

I am an independent, a former republican. I simply couldn't stand their lack of a backbone when confronted by democrats. Democrats are good at what they do... it's just too bad the democrats don't share in fiscal responsibility and toning down the progressives in their party. To me, democrats aren't healthy for this country. They have liberal values and to me that is the greatest evil in this land.

                            Mary,

I don't agree with you about calling former President Bush "W" as being derogatory. I mean he printed bumper stickers and campaigned on it. At what point does that make it FAIR GAME?

I agree with your over arching point and theme. The only slang abbreviation I use is Repubs. Which to me isn't derogatory, either; but some may feel otherwise.

Unless I am outright calling someone an idiot for repeating garbage they 'read' somewhere (but more likely heard from Rush and then perpetuated, ad nauseum, to drive a narrative for someone else - I'm looking at nojonobonj on this one) I TRY to be a fair broker. Try being the operative word.

BrianB- You certainly hold yourself in high regard but you are the only one. Democrats are not at all what you make them out to be. (I am an Independent but clearly have done my homework instead of making things up - which you seem to do.) The Democratic party is not lacking in fiscal responsibility. However, it is implausible to just reverse 8 years of bad government and that is what you are expecting President Obama to do. I'm sure the fact that you disrespect the President would bother him - NOT. Disrespecting someone who is working to help this country recover from the worst President in history is not something I would brag about. However, you seem to want to brag about everything. Your civic classes - which amazingly most of us took - you just didn't bother to learn from them.

What an arrogant individual you are. I'm guessing you like Newt Gingrich - another arrogant, I'm above it all, individual.

You and your post are a joke. You label all people in a particular party as liberals - and you clearly don't even understand what a liberal is. Maybe it would benefit you to go back to school and this time, try to learn something. Doubt that is going to happen.

If Democrats are bad for the country, Republicans are totally evil. They want to intrude on everyone's life and tell them what they can and can't do. They want to have less government - except for the government they want (try to figure that one out). They want to spend, spend, spend, but only on wars and THEIR programs. They have no fiscal responsibility but want to claim they do. Pathetic. And, you don't like Democrats?

BrianB - I don't if President Obama was in a quandry regarding his birth certificate. He had already proved his natural-born citizenship status with the release of the legal document in 2008 proving his birth in Hawaii. While I cannot presume to know what was going on in his mind, maybe he never planned to release the long-form, as it was unnecessary, but when the media covered this non-stop after Mr. Trump started making the ridiculous accusations, he thought it best to release it to try to stop the nonsense. However, the timing of the release was perfect so as to make Mr. Trump look ridiculous. He release it shortly before the OBL killing; this coupled with the release of the birth certificate and Mr. Trump's refusal to release his financial records, as he said he would, truly made Mr. Trump look like an idiot.

I disagree with you about President Obama's liberal agenda, and I suppose that we could argue about that forever. As a conservative Democrat, I don't view President Obama as a liberal. True, he has increased the deficit significantly, however, that was due, in part, to stimulate the economy. (Most economists, from my research, agree that government spending is necessary to stimulate the economy during a recession.) It was also due, in part, to his producing a more honest budget than some previous administrations, including the costs of wars, etc. Additionally, this deficit problem has been growing and festering for a long time, much longer than President Obama and President Bush have occupied the White House. It is impossible to immediately reverse this trend.

Again, we could argue as to whether his policies succeeded. Many factors indicate that the economy is improving. However, unemployment remains high. I'm beginning to believe that unemployment is high, and will remain high, because while many large businesses are making record profits, they are not hiring because they have trimmed wasteful spending and possibly redundant jobs, and technology has replaced some jobs, as well. I don't think that unemployment will decrease until businesses start using these profits to expand into newer fields.

Finally, I agree that the liberals immediately attacked your comment with name-calling. Again, that seems to be the norm, from both sides, on these vines. However, I appreciate your discussing this with me in a non-confrontational manner.

I didn't think much of President Bush as a president, but I always referred to him as President Bush.

I'm no fan of The Donald, and I'm certainly no fan of the Republican/Conservative/Tea Party maroons, but a thought, be it every so brief, did cross my mind: What if The Donald was actually working for the Obama side of the aisle? What if he took advantage of an opportunity to, theoretically, enhance his presence & programming viewership/ratings while helping lay the platform for Obama to unveil his long-form birth certificate in such grand fashion? Has anyone else given this concept a thought or two? It seems plausible to me, and would go a long way towards explaining why he allowed himself to be full on skewered at the WCD by Obama and Seth Meyers. On the other hand, his show lost a sponsor or two and he does look like a big buffoon. On second thought, I can't get behind my own fleeting thought. The Donald's ego is just too fragile for him to take such risks with exposing it to further bruising. Oh well, at least I tried to think outside The Donald's Fox!

Donald Trump has WAY too big of an ego to "allow" himself to be skewered. And...if that were true, he would have been able to laugh at himself. No...The Donald thought he could just win the presidency on his name and the popularity of his reality show, then found out that outside his little circle of "yes men", his name has become a joke and his show is only watched for the train wreck value.

Carianne, I agree with you as to the issue of Trumped's ego, but I cannot agree that Trumped was EVER serious about a run for POTUS in 2012. He simply used this opportunity to capture a self-serving, self-promotion opportunity and, for awhile, it worked or at least the so called "polls" said so. I don't believe in poll accuracy and I don't believe Trumped was even remotely serious about running for POTUS. The man is a walking conflict of interest and a full on joke. His ego is so fragile that even a psychiatrist would conclude Trumped himself has his moments of self-doubt. Oh well, it was fun to watch the Trumped Train wreck. . .now, back to our regular programming.

He won't desert us, but his loudly voiced opinions will begin to fall upon deaf ears in the media. Maybe NBC mentions him seriously from time to time when they need to sell some advertising spots for his tv show, that's about it. Remember how we used to hear about everything Sarah Palin said, and now we don't? That will be the Donald, categorized in the irrelevant section.

Did you know that the Donald currently endorses a video phone? Seriously, like an actual chunky office phone-sized piece of plastic with a little 3" video screen? Yeah, you make "video phone calls" on it, and the person on the other end (who has to have the same hardware) talks to you and you can see them! Trump says in the future there will be one in every house. Uh, Donald, there's a kind of device that's already in just about every house, it's called a computer. There's software called Skype, Windows Live, iChat, and many others, that are available for free. Then people take this little camera that's either pre-installed on their laptop or they buy one for $30 and they talk to people while being able to see them on their computer screen. But Trump says everyone will have a $250 piece of plastic and pay $40/month for the same thing! And this is supposed to be one of the best business minds in the world!? What a clown!

With Trump out, I do hope Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman run. The field just got a little less entertaining with Trump gone and someone needs to step up and provide the hilarious pandering to morons that he did so well.

vet, the Internet is a great place to find answers. Tea Baggers are their own creation, "to include "a conservative activist who is so ignorant that they protest against tax cuts (that benefit them) by throwing tea into a river."

"Only now, the protesters and their organizers are fighting a battle on two fronts: not only against what they see as a government gone wild with giveaways; but ridicule for the double meaning of "tea bagging."

Haha, frankly. Yeah, I can see Trump's take on Mickey Mouse: "Mickey is a socialist. Just look at his work. Everyone that comes to Disneyland has fun, and all are entitled to everything the Magic Kingdom has to offer. It comes at a huge price and it's bankrupting the people! Atlantic City on the other hand, now that's America. Everyone can come and play. There will be a few winners and bunch of losers. And if you lose everything, don't worry, we'll give you a minimum wage job so you can get back on your feet and live the American Dream."

That GOP can convince itself of anything, whether it's true or not. In all seriousness, though, I think quite a few potential candidates that have opted out knew they couldn't win, period. We'll see what happens, but I think Obama is going to do quite well in the election, and I think the GOP knows this. They'll continue to say he won't, as to try to convince people with their usual tactics. But the "strong" candidates don't want to be the sacrificial lambs for the GOP in 2012.

I think we owe a thank you to NBC (and a much bigger thanks to FOX) for giving paychecks to these Republican/TB stooges. With their cash flow assured, so few of these lemmings have any interest in actually running for office. They can get money for just throwing red meat to the fools that follow these shallow, meaningless news/entertainment programs. While I doubt that FOX realized it was reducing the likelihood of these fools becoming candidates, this is a prime example of unexpected consequences. And a big kiss and hug from me.

@Doug. He would have to file financial and tax reports. He would have to disclose the reason he filed bankruptcy 4 times etc. He would still have to file a disclosure of all business related investments and put his holdings into a blind trust. No way he is going to divulge any of that information, because he has too many enemies and skeletons in his closet. He will continue his antics, because after a brief surge in viewers, the show has nosedived again. This clown loves the fool he sees in the mirror.

Most members of the GOP are not birthers. Obama has plenty of other issues to address besides his birthplace. I wish Trump would have run, I don't think he would win, but it would have made the election more interesting. He did make a good point regarding the way our government spends money it doesn't have.

Guess you missed the polls of the last few months showing over 50% of self-identified Republicans still question whether the President is an American. This is why the party is becoming irrelevant and finding only baffoons willing to run.

Not one GOP candidate came out and said the birther nonsense should stop. They let it ride because they thought they could get mileage out of it, so whatever repercussions they suffer they deserve. I dont know how a person as uninformed as Trump is, could make an election more interesting. The economy and the deficit from the last administration requires more than political talk to resolve the problems we now face. The GOP wants to balance the economy on the backs of the middleclass, seniors and poor. They bring nothing to the table that involves jobs, healthcare, and economic growth. How you think Trump would add something interesting to this conversation is beyond me.

Diamond 60 - Many people from both sides make good points about the out-of-control spending in Washington. However, many of them make their points with good arguments rather than the bluster and lies spouted by Mr. Trump.

Diamond60--The government has ALWAYS spent money it doesnt have. ALWAYS!!!! It has always had a deficit, (oops--CLINTON years) . The last president we had decided that it was way easier to fool the public by not including the cost of the two wars he got us into in the deficit. Now that President Obama has decided not to continue the "fuzzy math" practices of BUSH, our deficit went through the roof. So-now the REP/CON/TPers (whatever they are) can now claim that the increase in debt is ALL Obama's fault. Again with the fuzzy math--but, that is how they operate.

It was stated on Nov 3/08 that Mitch McConnell and his minions were going to make sure that Obama was a one term president. He and his co-horts have now brought this country and world to the brink of global financial ruin for one reason only. The POWER that the REP/CON/TPers are so obsessed with is in the hands of a BLACK man. And that makes them ALL crazy. This country and the world has witnessed this these last two years.

While some think that a TRUMP run would have made for some interesting debate--it would have made this country's governmental system a laughing stock in the world. Obama's WH just managed to kill the most hated man on earth, Obama's WH has re-invigorated the worlds view of USA. Obama's WH has done something that no president has ever done-tackle health care. Now -- I am not entirely happy with the result -(I prefer single - payor myself. Get rid of the billions of profit made off the health or lack of people)- it is a start, and can be open to discussion with reasonable folks.

Now if only the REP/CON/TPers had any of those.....

Trump is an ego manaic. But he did speak of a one time tax on the big rich to reduce the deficit. He also spoke of high tarrifs and trying to bring back jobs.

There are many things that would help like forcing our public owned corporations to pay our minimum wages wherever they go. Regulating the income gap, putting labor representatives on corporate boards and raising the capital gains tax would be a start.. Unfortunately, both parties have givenup even trying to bring back jobs. In fact they have helped the pigs to outsource.

Banks, wall street and big corporations love slave labor, they own our government and they are destroying America. There can be no economic recovery without real change and that means bringing back good paying jobs and controlling the very pigs that own our government.

I read his statement and I can only say that he either has an ego the size of Texas or he's delusional or both. You had to believe that the Donald was smart enough to know that his outrageous comments on the birther issue and the killing of OBL were political Hari-Kari. Also, I really didn't think he wanted his financial dealings exposed to public scrutiny. Maybe he found out that even his "black friends" will never vote for him. He is PT Barnum incarnate.

LOL...anyone who has a slight understanding of what Trump's goal will ALWAYS be would have realized from the start that he was never really attempting to run. He's a media &#$e with a brand name he wants to ensure stays within the limelight. He may or may not really believe what he stated to the public regarding Barack Obama's birth certificate and college transcripts; however, his name is currently of premier relevance, which obviously will promote his brand (at least for the time being).

What I find to be even more interesting is the support he managed to drum up from the republican voting base just by simply relying on race to question the authenticity of Barack Obama's credentials. If you notice he always seemed to avoid discussing anything of substance related to rectifying the current state of the economy. Yet, he received a significant amount of support. Why is that? (That's a rhetorical question, at least in my head...but feel free to answer it)

The Donalds feelings were hurt when the President ridiculed him. He couldn't possibly deal with the stress of all the scrutiny he would get in a campaign.

Amen to that, and Obama took just as many jokes at his expense as Trump did at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

He just realized he didn't have a snowballs chance in hell of winning and we all know how he hates losing :-)

It would have been interesting to see what all would have been disclosed about Trump in the scrutiny of a presidential election.   I am sure he chickened out.
