With T-shirt, Obama camp raising money off birth certificate controversy

The Obama reelection campaign is raising money off of the controversy surrounding President Obama’s birth certificate.

The Obama reelection campaign is selling a T-shirt (above) to anyone who donates at least $25.

With a donation of at least $25 to the Obama campaign, donors can get a long-form birth certificate T-shirt.

The “limited edition” T-shirt on the front proclaims, “Made in America” beneath a picture of the president. On the back, is a picture of the long-form birth certificate.

The president released his long-form birth certificate on April 27, trying to put an end to the conspiracy theory that he was not born in the United States. (For the record, again, the president was born in Hawaii.) Obama trumpeted the release of the birth certificate in a video that accompanied is stand-up routine at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner.

In 2008, the Obama campaign often used merchandise as a way to raise money/build its donor base. After all, anyone who donates $25 for this shirt is a potential donor who can give more money during the election cycle.

I'd wear this not necessarily because I support Obama in the upcoming race (yes, I said that FULLY aware of the hypocrisy in paying $25 for the damn thing) but because, on general mischevious principle, I'm curious to know just how many people I can piss off sporting this at the local Galleria.

Looks like MSDNC doesn't want any competition with their fundraising efforts for Barry. It sure seems to me that this is free fundraising advertising on behalf of a Presidential candidate. Isn't it illegal to give corporate gifts to political campaigns??

You mean like when First Read links articles to clips from Republican campaign ads? They do it because it's news. Big deal. Now that the Obama birth certificate conspiracy theory has died, some people are really searching hard for a new one to give their lives meaning.

I liked the Oba-Mao T-shirts from Obamas China trip better, but those are hard to get since B.O.'s handlers had the producers shut down.

Really??

No wonder this country is in such awful shape.

As I said in my deleted post: My personal favorite T-shirt from MSDNC's competition is "99% of Democrats give the rest a bad name"

Joe, much as I might agree with your sentiment that this article barely qualifies as news, expressing mock-appallment at that fact in our shiny, nickel-plated modern era is akin to observing that garbage smells.

I had a feeling that Obama was going to hold his long birth certificate copy and release it for this purpose (his campaign). I always wondered why Obama never did the simple thing and release a copy of his long form back in 2008. Now we know why he held back. He did it on purpose.

Everyone can get their own long copy from the state. I've said it all along.

Obama is slick, like a typical politician.

LoL Joe ~ For substance, I'd have to go with the gun ads. They are TERRIBLE. I can't believe YOU approve of those.

For snark, I'll pick the vodka ad and your choice about the name. The slogan about Clinton's pants is pretty good, too.

For plain tastelessness, I'll go with the fist and the lightbulb.

For ad placement, RCReagan. RC may about to lose some customers, and I hope they get rung up for illegal campaign donations. Then again, are ANY campaign contributions illegal anymore?

That's so sad, though. After all, what WILL I drink with my moonpies?

I really don't know when the Republicans are going to catch on that Obama has been giving them kisses and killing them softly from Day 1. Look at the GOP and the state of the Teabagger Party with all of its crazy characters and one can only come to the conclusion that Obama has them all shook up. Basically everything the Republicans are throwing his way, either he's dodging it, he's knocking it out of the park, or he's throwing that @!$%# right back at 'em and hitting them in the face with it. Unbelievable!!!!!

Now the False Prophet Glenn Beck is promoting an End of Times Christian Crusade to Israel--WTF? That is idiotic, and where is the condemnation about this? Are there any conservatives who aren't complete douche-bags?

Your real anger is how the GOP/TPhas become the gift that keeps on giving for Democrat victories. Another brilliant campaign idea from the Obama camp -- Obama/Biden 2012!

Jessica, please don't tell me whom I should vote for. There are several candidates in the mix, but not all have entered as yet. Perhaps you may even find one that is acceptable to you, or are you a confirmed Obama-holic?

One of the great things we still have in this country, is our ability to vote our choice without any BS from outsiders like MSNBC, or Feisty the Troglodyte, or perhaps Bev, the self-professed racist from Chicago.

If I listened to any of them, I shouldn't vote for the election is in the bag for Obama. Ups, maybe it is, he's part of the chicago political machine, along with his purported mentor, George Sorros.

So you people willingly accept that the long form existed while the many "truths" raged on that the short form was the only BC, there was only a scribble between line of registered entries and people swore the certification was the only real record. That is three completely different truths. There are more. Nothing will bring to light that it is not a photo copy, but an enhanced pasted up construct with an editing time stamp in the binary, out of numerical alignment, has no shred of evidence that it is stamped with any official seal as well as an evidently legal term that is out of line with the times. Two and a half years as well as millions of dollars to badly hide the whole discrepancy. Make a video in High Definition, open the book and capture the view, turn the page, America wants irrefutable proof, not mysterious data that can be literally picked apart. What was he hiding for two and a half years?

Nobody will forget Obama, but your POTUS will always have the word LIAR attached to him. What happens when the point and blame thrills die down and you only get to read the history books that people indifferent to your insults and condemnation write?

Time magazine recently raised the debate again. Some media will always demand answers to the mystery. But when America refuses to take this to task, I can only shake my head and wonder what real reasons are letting Obama keep his seat? You people having such a good time taunting your so called nuts, might want to actually open your eyes instead of blindly fling feces. After all, with all the above questions to his honesty and legitimacy, where is his promise for transparency gone to?

Media that drums up votes for their favorites? Obama supporters are doing the same thing using his ability to avoid questions. Obama promised transparency. When will he keep his promises?

I do like asking the questions that people are afraid to answer.

Earnest, you are right that you can't teach someone to have a sense of humor. It is very humorous that the whole birther issue is going to add money to Obama's re-election campaign. You don't even have to like Obama to find it funny that he is basically giving all the birthers the finger by making tee-shirts with his face and the birth certificate on the front and back. And this money going toward his campaign, just brilliant.

Bush never sold that many shirts to have such a firesale. He did, however, run the country into the dirt and all we got was the lousy shirt off our back to clean up the mess.

Clara dear, when will you finally admit that George may not have been that bright, but he didn't run the nation into debt like Barry has during the 2.5+ years he's been in office.

And when will you finally admit that Barry's programs haven't saved jobs, gainned jobs, improved the economy, or in general been that productive for Americans? When will you admit that the runaway Progressive Democratic spending has ruined our economy?

                                      It isn't all Bush dear.

                                      safecracker,

Are you telling me we lost 650,000 jobs last month and the media in some Obama SWOON somehow failed to report it?

wow, I AM gullible. Bush spent money. Plenty of it. He just didn't budget for it. Basically, he tried to not tell you about it.

AND don't forget, he passed TWO stimulus bills himself. President Obama only passed one. Anything Bush could do Obama does better,...

Yes He CAN! (okay,...now I'm just humming the tune to piss you off). Mission Accomplished?

safecracker, you are delusional. Obama didn't put us in a recession, the economy is recovering, but you can't expect what Bush did in 8 years to be fixed in 2 1/2 years. Car dealerships, Banks etc. were all going down and Obama brought them back. Business' are thriving, I Know my is, so open your eyes and look around. If we still are not where we should be, that's Bush's fault, just in the month of april 244,000 jobs were created and every month keeps going higher, praise Obama.

No lu, car dealerships didn't close due to Bush, it was the Obama plan that closed many dealerships AFTER the unions benefited from the bailout. Now if the companies were to go Chapter 11, they would have submitted a reorganization plan to the bankruptcy judge overseeing the case. Probably the unions would not have survived as unions, but the workers would have jobs. And those dealers may have still been opened. But it was OBAMA and his Car Tsar that closed dealerships.

Same situation for the investment bankers. Now tell me lu, of those banks you talk about, how many were retail banks, how many were brokerage houses, and how many were investment banks? There is a difference. Had the larger retail banks not be bailed, other banking chains would have invested in the takeover.

Now let's move to jobs.......every libbie on this site critized Bush for not creating jobs....did Obama create jobs or was this market conditions? And of those 244K jobs, discount the McDonalds 50K, where were the remaining? Now that is a total of 244K jobs across the US or if you equate this to states, every state gained a total of 4,880. What an achievement.

Praise Obama, lu, you are delusional. go get in line for your Savior's shirt.

You're a hoot. If something bad happens, it's Obama's fault, if something good happens it's market conditions? really?

You are completely crackin' me up. This is my second shirt of this season, thanks for the concern about my wardrobe.

(am I allowed to point out that you seem to be the one with the double speak? or rather triple speak,...three posts for the price of one? I feel special, I guess.

One final parting shot, safecracker, you DO know what a deficit is right? I mean when Bush never put the wars and the Medicare D on the budget, you realize those won't be accounted in any DEFICIT, right? Please tell me you aren't THAT obtuse and blind? Maybe you are; but I can't save you now.

But it seems you need to use it too. The word is spelled vacillate.

Safecracker what was the cost of both wars during the Bush Administration? Remember it was kept off budget and the oil was suppose to pay for it, what was the cost of both Bush tax cuts? Remember Bush nor the Republican Congress paid for that, what was the cost of Medicare Part D? Remember Bush nor the Republican Congress budgeted for it, what was cost of the Iraq Embassy being built and maintain?

That was spending acquired during the Bush Administration and Republican Congress, what about the cost of TARP Bush signed or both of the Stimulus? Care to enlighten the rest of us and as for job loss prior to the Obama Administration this country was losing jobs at an average of 750,000 a month go look it up. And just the record their is a chart available for your review which shows jobs lost during the Bush Administration and the net gains of jobs during this current Adminstration. Again it is available for you to review.

                                              OK GC,

Safecracker what was the cost of both wars during the Bush Administration? -

I don't happen to know the exact number, so why don't you provide that? As well as your statement that oil was to repay the cost. Where did Bush state that? You can provide that also!

As for the Bush Tarp, not as costly as the various costs associated with the Obama administration Tarp, Stimulus programs. By the way Mr. GC, how many jobs were saved by Obama? Now, that's the number of jobs that was so boggled in the administration reporting by experts, that they had to admit they goofed. Just indicate the actual saved number for me.

When it does come time to researching information prior to your attacks, why not actually research and not continue passing on the information you receive from the far-left Sorros owned web sites?

And but don't forget, he won by a substantial margin BEFORE he produced his birth certificate, vanquished the boy champion put up by the right, squashed the cockroach Trump, and killed Osama bin Laden. All in all, a pretty DARN good two weeks. And it has had some effect on "smart" people, for sure.

As for me, I'm ex-military (Annapolis '79), now run a law firm that has employed many people over the years, and I have never been on any type of public assistance. Indeed, most of the people I have known who have received some type of public assistance have been blow-hard teapublican types. But we all know facts never get in the way of right-wing bloviating.

If you are career military, officer or enlisted, you are a government worker. That means you are a big drain on our economy. You are a perfect example of what needs to be eliminated from our budget.

Question..Why aren't we talking about what's going on in Florida. From the Huffington Post.'

Despite the governor's campaign promise to focus on job creation, Florida Governor Rick Scott and the Florida legislature have focused their attention on other matters.

In the legislative session that ended Saturday, lawmakers passed no job creation bills for Scott to sign. But they did pass five bills restricting abortion rights and a state budget that cuts nearly 4,500 public sector jobs.

The five bills, which Scott is expected to sign, force women to undergo ultrasounds prior to having an abortion, prohibit private insurance coverage of abortion care in the new state health-insurance exchange, require young women to prove the medical necessity of their abortions before a judge in order to bypass parental permission, establish state-sanctioned license plates that funnel money to anti-choice "crisis pregnancy centers" and changes the state constitution to prohibit the government funding of abortion.

Florida Republicans filed a total of 18 anti-abortion bills during the session, the third most in the country, according to the ACLU, and twice the number of anti-choice laws introduced last year in the state, according to NARAL Pro-Choice America.

The focus on abortion rights has caused some lawmakers -- including some fellow Republicans -- to question how they got so far off-track.

                                                          Good job, Florida. @!$%#ing hell.

I understand a similar bill was introduced in the Texas legislature.

Nice to know that for modern Republicans, telling women what to do with their bodies and the continued invasion of family matters doesn't qualify as government interference in the privacy of citizens. I love willful hypocrisy; don't you?

I fail to understand how to legislate a 'medically unnecessary' procedure into law, while denying health care to the same group by defunding Planned Parenthood......

That group hasnt done one thing to create jobs , not one.....they spend their efforts trying to tell woman what to do with their bodies and blame the people who make $45 thousand a year teaching your kids to prepare for the future for the countries problems....if you buy into that garbage and cast your vote for that junk then you deserve just what you voted for..........then they make up B.S. like communism, socialism, marxism and whatever peabrain thought they can think of all the while pulling probably the biggest socialistic move ive ever seen in this country by taking away real american workers right to negotiate what it is they work for ............if this is your idea of real patriots i gotta say your in a large need of a head examination.......

They are all politicians first with a clear focus on how much money they will need for re-election and where to get it. I reiterate-what a marketing genius! I am not really mystified; I have as much undertanding as the typical American. I am perfectly willing to let things take there natural course through 2012. Maybe everyone should retire after 10 years of service. I wonder why they had to trot out the whole Bush administration, to try and take credit for the old man's death?Oh, I see. It was a cowboy antic, so it must go to Bush. I personally think it was a scalpel effort and I give the credit to Doc. Obama.

They wanted him alive and tried in the US, costing millions. They didn't want to bring KSM to New York for trail because it would bee dangerous and costly. But OBL? No way, it won't cost anything.

Do you remember Adolf Eichmann - Nazi war criminal? Responsible for millions of Jewish deaths. Yet, when captures (and clearly he could have been assassinated), he was tried at great expense by Israel. Eichmann received justice and a just sentence. Bin Laden? Worse than Eichmann? Or perhaps the U.S. marches to a different drummer.

I concede that when Eichmann was tried, the Nazi movement was pretty much dead (or was the neo-Nazi movement around in the 1960s). So maybe concerns about hostage taking and reprisals were significantly less.

From Wikepedia, Eichmann was captured by a team of Mossad and Shin Bet agents in a suburb of Buenos Aires on May 11, 1960. The Mossad agents
had arrived in Buenos Aires in April 1960 after Eichmann's identity was confirmed. After observing Eichmann extensively, a team of Mossad agents waited for him as he arrived home from his work as foreman at a Mercedes Benz factory.

He could have simply been ambushed and deep sixed. But he was not.

If we are truly a nation governed by laws, our actions are hard to justify. But I will not change your view. So, think as you please. Obama's actions will be judged by historians many decades from now.

I personally am disgusted with how he handled the situation. That is my own personal moral standard. We have plunged down to a level no higher that Bin Laden. So much for the greatness of America.

So it is imperative that the USA do exactly what Israel did or would do? Since you guys are so perfect and fair and holy.

Pretty funny stuff, but a self-deprecating joke like that would probably fly right over the heads of people like you.
