Pawlenty raises $4.2 million in second quarter

Tim Pawlenty raised $4.2 million for the second campaign fundraising quarter -- a disappointing haul for a candidate many originally viewed as the top establishment threat to front-runner Mitt Romney.

Pawlenty spokesman Alex Conant said in a statement that Pawlenty "begins the third quarter with more available cash-on-hand than the Republicans who won the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary had in July 2007."

Conant was referring to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee who won the Iowa caucuses and Sen. John McCain who won New Hampshire.

The $4.2 million is a combination of money raised for the primaries and general election. A candidate can't use general-election money if they're not the nominee.

Quite a bit more than Carrot Top's $1200 monthly in government benefits received, but I digress. Pawlenty doesn't have a chance... like I've said from the beginning of the race.

Lawrence O'Donnell's going to be crushed.

Time to mail Pawlenty a check, Larry...your handicapping of the GOP field isn't looking too good at the moment.

It's going to be Bachmann baby. The Batsh-- is unstoppable! That's what happens when a party consciously courts the stupid vote for years. It all started with the pledge of allegiance and Willie Horton in '88. Since then, the GOP has shown no shame in appealing to prejudice, nationalism, and the insecurities of the scared and stupid. Let's all scream that this is the GREATEST COUNTRY IN THE WORLD, that we never had ANY prejudice, and that the good Lord has told us who the evil people are (i.e., gays and pro-choice) and that really such scum should in all righteousness be rubbed out!

He might want to give some of that money to his home state so the government of Minnesota can reopen.

Pawlenty will have difficulty explaining that it was he, as Gov of MN, who kicked the deficit can down the road every year he was in office by cooking the books so to speak--balancing the budget by borrowing from Peter to pay Paul. So much for conservative fiscal responsibility.

Yes, isn't it amazing that while funny math might produce a surplus for one year (like MN), after awhile the red ink comes surging in like the tide. That's why the Republican party is red on the electoral map - it's red ink (because revenues do go down when the multiplier goes down). And taking away an ethanol subsidy is a tax increase, yeah - sure - that's the ticket!! Because rich ethanol producers need their subsidy to make sure we don't buy cheaper Brazilian ethanol - made from sugar cane (which is a much more efficient source for ethanol).

Two other point here regarding ethanol. First is Brazil powers almost all it's vehicles off ethanol. Second, that allows allof the money from the deep water drilling Brazil does and the oil-flows toChina. China payments (in dollars) finces the social programs to clear Brazil's slums. Over 50% of Brazil's budget comes from oil revenue.

Without the revenue, and the ethanol powered economy, Brazil would not be growing so fast because the oil now sold abroad would be required at home in Brazil.

If T-paw's wants Brazil's growth rate, why doesn't ihe follow Brazil'spolicies-nationalize the oil industry and promote ethanol?

After Tim Paw loses this bid. He should turn independent. He is actually more moderate than people think(despite the rhetoric while running to be republican nominee). He would actually be a formidable general election candidate. He just cant make it out of the primaries. I would not vote for him either way. Its just an observation. OBAMA/BIDEN 2012!!!

dear pawlenty

what you need is less of a "snazzola" and more "balls" !!! then, the money will "flow like a river" !!!

p.s. reggie brown's spinal transplant joke was NO JOKE !!! YOU COULD USE SOME "BACK BONE"

    Reply#16 - Sat Jul 2, 2011 7:04 PM EDT

The word is beginning to get out that T-Paw cut the money for healthcare for unemployed single people, not once, but twice. Yet he could find moneyto allow raising taxes for Billionaire Carl Polhland's Minnesta Twins Stadium by signing a bill canceling a rederedum required by state law on major prjects . Polls showed thestadium would lose 60-40.

Billionaires are delighted to hear this and are begining to see T-Paws in a new light. for a guy who stands at 4% in national polls the money is very good.

Buying any political office is an expensive proposition . The higher the office the more opportunity for getting back the money; therefore, the more expensive the office. No politician seeks political office just because he/she wants to "be a good American." Desire to hold public office is directly proportional to the opportunities for enrichment that come with the office. All politicians are liars and criminals.

When was the last time you voted and did not vote for the candidate you believed would be best for your wallet? Voters vote for a particular candidate for the same reasons politicians seek office: self enrichment.
