Santorum raises $700,000 for the quarter

Former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum reported raising more than $704,000 for the 3rd fundraising quarter, his campaign announced this morning. More than half of that total, it added, was raised during the final three weeks of the period (from July 1 through Sept. 30).

However, the Santorum campaign has just about $190,000 in the bank as of Sept. 30. The senator raised nearly $600,000 in the 2nd quarter.

Team Santorum also announced it was canceling its campaign events in Nevada, protesting the state's caucuses that are scheduled for Jan. 14. "While Sen. Santorum appreciates the hospitality of the people of Nevada, he is concerned that Nevada's decision encroaches on Iowa and New Hampshire's election calendar and may push them into the Christmas season," said Communications Director Hogan Gidley.

That said, Santorum will still participate in the Oct. 18 debate in Nevada.

Agreed, Feisty.

Only the "big bucks" candidates can compete.

The Obama campaign is rumored to be raising $1 billion.

He'll need every penny to be reelected.

His record's really hurting him.

This isn't 2008.

We all now know what an Obama Presidency actually looks like...don't we, my love?

It's going to take an awful lot of money to overcome that, Feisty.

Let's have it straight.

What's different about this election from 2008, is the Supreme Court passage of 'Cititzen's United' that grotesquely tilts the playing field to Big Money so our Government can be bought by the super-rich. That started with Scott Brown's election and he won MA c/o Koch Industries.

The sleazy right wing has had that $$$$$$$$$$manoeuvre planned out for a very long time. That, and trying to change voting laws and putting in place confusion voting requirements is their strategy.

When you have to call Feisty "my love" you know you're scraping the barrel.

Tearing down ideas, Negativity, clever names and destruction ain't nothing but negative strategy.

He is no longer running against a candidate MB, he is running against republicans in Congress, and their record is far worse, because legislating is their responsibility, he can only encourage an agenda. The whole thing started to change in nature, after the debt ceiling fiasco being botched by republicans in Congress, then the jobs bill, which he pitched right down the middle on TV, meanwhile people took to the streets pleading for an equitable approach to our problems, so what do republicans in the senate do, they vote to a man to kill the bill from even being debated. The whole thing changed, republicans turned it from being about Obama into being about them. He is now running against what everybody hates at the moment, republican prized policy of never compromise, never raise taxes, ect, ect. It changed from who is the better man for president, into what difference does it make if one side will unanimously vote partisan without so much as a debate, even though thousands of people in their districts wanted them to vote yes for the bill. They blew it MB, they could not have played it any better for Obama, and their timing could not have been worse. It does not matter who runs against him now and his record does not matter so much, people now believe his record could have and should have been better with a little cooperation from republicans. If you look at his record as CIC, which as whom he can do want he needs to do without permission from republicans, he has kicked the republican CIC's ass. He is no longer running against a single candidate, he is running against republicans, their tactics, and their policies in general, it matters not whom their next messenger is. Republicans in both houses of Congress took the messenger right out of the equation, they made themselves the focal point of one of the things the whole damn world is now protesting, and the republican candidate for president will suffer for it. Not only did they damage themselves by callously carrying the Waterloo strategy too far, they made Obama the only guy speaking up for, presenting a reasonable plan for, and fighting for what millions of people desperately need, and are in the streets protesting for. I think you watch some football, well it no longer matters who the republicans put in for quarterback, because republicans lost their defense. You know how sometimes you see a play, and you recognize that it will determine the outcome of the game, the unanimous vote in the senate was that play, it was the wrong play at the wrong time, and it redirected the whole momentum of the game.

@American,

American citizens protesting in the streets from coast to coast is not caused by negative strategy on the part of Obama, it is actually quite the opposite, it is republicans that stated right from the begining that they would "break him" to quote just one of our patriotic elected republicans, they unamiosly voted along party lines, they display the negative rhetoric that the president of the USA is all bad, all the time, Fox bashes an American wartime president 24/7 for three years, and now you say the president is negative and brings on ill wind, even as for nearly three years the man patiently dealt with republicans that even Mother Theresa would have told to go "F" themselves. Ha you are too much.

Well alrighty then .... thanks for another great article FR.

Meanwhile, Obama is in Detriot touting the trade agreement ....

So it was good to see Congress act in a bipartisan way on something that will help create jobs at a time when millions of Americans are out of work and need them now.

..... "need them now?" ..... we needed them almost 3 years ago too, when you first took office and they were sitting on your desk.

You had bipartisan support back then too, but you sat on them for almost 3 years trying to get a concession for the unions?

Sheez ... you bought them 2 car companies - that wasn't enough?

But that's also why it was so disappointing to see Senate Republicans obstruct the American Jobs Act, even though a majority of Senators voted "yes" to advance this jobs bill.

.... a "majority?" .... yea 50-49 on a procedural vote. The reality, the truth is that 4-6 dems that voted for wasting time discussing it had promised to vote against it - it stood no chance.

Independent economists say that this jobs bill would give the economy a jumpstart and lead to nearly two million new jobs.

Who was it, Bloomberg that did a survey and could only scrape up 2 out of 34 economist that would agree with that statement? (Who were those idiots -Harvard academia again?)

Every idea in that jobs bill is the kind of idea both parties have supported in the past.

Yea ... and it didn't work the previous times. We spent trillions and ended up with the worst recovery, the worst failure since the Great Depression, which happened to be the "Great" depression because of this same type of big government insanity

.... Republicans in the House spent the past couple days picking partisan ideological fights. They're seeing if they can roll back clean air and water protections.

The federal government employees 281,000 in the regulatory agencies - up 18%.

The Code of Federal regulations was 157,974 pages long at the end of 2009.

Gosh that sounds like most of the important stuff should be covered, huh?

Obama wasn’t happy - added another 3,752 in 2010 - a new federal regulation every 2 hours and 20 minutes – 24/7/365 – ALL WITHOUT CONGRESS!

They're stirring up fights over a woman's right to make her own health care choices.

See Obama, this type of crap is why you are such a worthless, deceitful excuse for a president. It has nothing to do with a woman's right to make her own health care choices other than the dems wanting to guarantee her the choice to chose for others to pay for her abortions. We are borrowing $4 billion a day to make our kids pay for abortions, to fund the largest abortion company in the world?

That's what's at stake. Putting people back to work. Restoring economic security for the middle class. Rebuilding an economy where hard work is valued and responsibility is rewarded — an economy that's built to last.

There is no economic security in giving temporary short term tax cuts and giving the privileged Obama base of unionized teachers, unionized construction workers and government workers - jobs that are non self-sustainable - another temporary half trillion dollar band-aid.

The first trillion proved it doesn't work any more than all the billions/trillions spent on liberal ideology such as free abortions and billion dollar green boondoogles. create jobs

an economy built to last

Where has Obama been? Does he not realize the last time he tried this we got downgraded? Does he not understand what that implies?

Oh well, there are plenty of idiots that fall for this crap but, thankfully not enough to subject us to 4 more years of it.

Considering all that had to be juggled in the last three years, it's remarkable what the president and Dems have accomplished. Yet the president will be criticized no matter what he does -- He is trying to do too much, he's not doing enough. Cripes.

What the majority of Americans do know is that it's Teapubicans, especially in the House who are Do Nothing obstructionists. What part of infrastructure construction that needs to be done anyway and now when interest rates are low would be a good time to do, or payroll tax cuts to help small businesses, or helping Vets returning home from war do the Teapublicans not like? *crickets*

And excuse us all, but that was the Tea Party Downgrade. And that's not just an opinion, feel free to check that out with S&P.

Considering all that had to be juggled in the last three years,

Are you kidding?

Obama wasn't aware of 2 wars that we had been fighting for the last 7 and 5 years respectively?

Obama wasn't aware of the recession?

Obama campaigned on all the stuff, said he had the answers and would fix everything - didn't he?

And really how tough was it? One war had beeen won and was winding down. The other war, it took him a year to come up with a plan.

We were bleeding 700,000 jobs a month as you guys cry ..... and what does Obama do? He says he will focus like a laser on jobs and starts trying to pass HCR.

The teapublicans force him to make that asinine decision?

Obama's big problem was simply nothing more than him being a clueless, narcissistic community organizer in a job way way way offer his head.

it's remarkable what the president and Dems have accomplished.

What has he accomplished? He even admits that things are worse since he took over .... it's just everybody else's fault - not his.

It is remarkable that there are actually idiots that believe he accomplished anything meaningful.

Yet the president will be criticized no matter what he does -- He is trying to do too much, he's not doing enough. Cripes.

How can you criticize him if what he does works, if the results are what he said they would be?

Your problem is that nothing has worked, nothing has turned out the way he said it would.

And you are crying and whining about him being critized for his failures? He should put his little boy short pants back on and go back to community organizing if he can't handle it.

What the majority of Americans do know is that it's Teapubicans, especially in the House who are Do Nothing obstructionists.

Obama had complete control of the House, Senate, Presidency and media for 2 years. How impotent can you be to not win with that?

The tea party?

Obama can't handle a few little freshmen in Congress? How pathetic.

What part of infrastructure construction that needs to be done anyway and now when interest rates are low would be a good time to do, or payroll tax cuts to help small businesses, or helping Vets returning home from war do the Teapublicans not like? *crickets*

Temporary little tax cuts and coupons to hire vets or whatever don't work when business realizes this guy is so clueless he can't even put together a budget that gets ONE VOTE! No one has any confidence in this economic idiot that does little other than demagogue the rich while demoralizing everyone else other than fools that fall for that crap.

And excuse us all, but that was the Tea Party Downgrade.

Yea, running up the greatest debt in history had nothing to do with it. Borrowing 4 billion a day doesn't raise any concerns. Spending 25% of GDP with revenue of 15% has no bearing.

It was the teapublicans asking for a balanced budget that scared S&P?

And that's not just an opinion, feel free to check that out with S&P.

Yep, that's not just an opinion ..... it's absolutely delusional, clueless, moronic, detached from reality opinion.

    So, "bob",

Am I a moron because I'm right, or because YOU choose to ignore reality? You are so far off the grid it's scary, "bob".

Since I already addressed your "Obama had complete control of the media" statement, I'll take the liberty and address your "Obama had complete control of the House, Senate, Presidency...for 2 years" statement:

In total, it was about six months...but let's take a look at that "super-majority", shall we?

    January 3, 2009 - 111th Congress sworn in. 55 Democrats, 41
    Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

January 15, 2009 - Roland Burris sworn in to Barack Obama's seat. 56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 2 vacant.

    April 30, 2009 – Arlen Specter changes parties. 57 Democrats, 40
    Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

July 7, 2009 – Al Franken seated. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.

August 25, 2009 – Teddy Kennedy dies. Kennedy had missed 97% of the votes in 2009 and over 90% in the last half of 2008. 57 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

September 25, 2009 – Paul Kirk appointed to Teddy Kennedy's seat. 58 Democrats, 40 Republicans, 2 Independents.THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE DEMOCRATS HAD A SHOT AT A 60-VOTE MAJORITY.

February 4, 2010 – Scott Brown sworn in to replace Paul Kirk. 57
    Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents.

June 28, 2010 – Robert Byrd dies. Byrd had missed over 90% of the votes in 2010 and almost 50% in 2009 due to illness. 56 Democrats, 41 Republicans, 2 Independents, 1 vacant.

November 29, 2010 - Mark Kirk sworn in to replace Roland Burris.
    56 Democrats, 42 Republicans, 2 Independents.

FACT: The Democratic "super-majority" was a myth, or rather, a GOP political spin to hide their actions.

FACT: The GOP used every roadblock, filibuster, and secret hold
they could think of so that EVERY bill had to have a 60-vote margin to pass.

So that "Obama had complete control of the House, Senate, Presidency...for 2 years", It existed only for a total of 6 months AND only during two periods when Teddy Kennedy and/or Robert Byrd were unable to vote AND required them to get the votes of every Democrat plus BOTH independents.

So "bob", while you are absolutely entitled to your own opinion, you are most certainly NOT entitled to your own facts.

    [Now you've scared him off...]

That may very well be, but that isn't my intention. Maybe, just maybe...he's doing some research, and will find that most of what his post consists of is false, or at the very least misleading, and is the inevitable consequence of dealing with this crisis. If this had been a McCain/Palin administration, very little would be done differently to handle this crisis, and it is sheer ignorance to think otherwise.

I am glad, however, that Obama chooses to deal with the this crisis, and not hold Americans hostage as is the GOP.

It is also of my opinion that "independents" aren't buying into the GOP/Tea Party bullcrap, and will vote accordingly.
