COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -- Herman Cain's campaign has hired a longtime Iowa political consultant to lead its efforts in the Hawkeye State, the campaign announced today.
Steve Grubbs, former Iowa Republican Party chair and CEO of Victory Enterprises, will now serves as Cain’s Iowa state chair and oversee the campaign’s strategy here.
Grubbs who told NBC News back in September that he would most likely not get involved during this presidential cycle, said he was impressed with Cain and he was a good mix of a business leader and social conservative.
“I am convinced now they have the plan and the resources to make it happen so I agreed to come on board to help them be successful,” Grubbs told NBC News by phone this afternoon. “We need to make sure we have a strong Iowa presence…but I support the national campaign’s efforts.”
The hiring comes just as Cain had been facing increased scrutiny about his campaign travel. He's criss-crossed the map in promotion of a new book, and hasn't spent as much time in traditional primary states as other candidates. Cain makes his first visit back to Iowa since August this Saturday. The campaign efforts here are mostly volunteer base, having just three paid staffers.
Grubbs, who worked with the Bob Dole, Steve Forbes and Tommy Thompson campaigns, said Cain could be successful in the Iowa caucuses set for Jan. 3rd.
“Success for Herman Cain in Iowa is anything better than 5th place like he finished in the straw poll,” Grubbs said when asked to define success.

WHEW!
Now I'll be able to sleep tonight!
Thanks to Herman hiring some help in IA! lol
Cain can get all of the help he wants, but he will never be president. He got his "999" plan from a video game. He praises the rich and ridicules anyone who is not wealthy while championing the rights of billionaires to become richer at everyone else's expense.
What high standards Cain aspires to---anything better than 5th place! Wow.
“Success for Herman Cain in Iowa is anything better than 5th place like he finished in the straw poll,” Grubbs said when asked to define success.
Ha, now that's some expectations management. Meanwhile, Rasmussen had a phone poll yesterday showing Cain has vaulted to a lead in Iowa.
You're kidding right Paul?
No one is better at lowering expectations than President Obama. Claiming he is the "Underdog" in 2012, repeatedly whining that no one will support him?
Pot meet Kettle.
"But...O BAHhhhh Ma...."
Soooo...WCA, is Obama destined for epic failure next year as is forecast by many of your ilk on here or is he the frontrunner?
Another poll by Foxmussen? Were the results just as predictable as their "other" polls?
This guy's plan takes care of the wealthy once again...He doesn't stand a chance !
Let me get this straight....success is being 5th? Here's my theory....Cain got into this whole Presidential race thing to make a little money. Sell some books, get some speaking engagements in front of the teapartiers, collect his check and go home. But holy crap, it turns out those teapartiers are stupid enough to think he could be President. Now he's in over his head and he's just winging it as he goes along. The more outrageous things he says, the better the teapartiers love him. It's a catch-22. But soon he'll be in way over his head and he'll totally crash and burn.
".....soon he'll be in way over his head and he'll totally crash and burn."
Dee- Shhhh..... Let's keep this on the down-low, ok?
Drive by
I'll do my best, but it's really only a matter of time before the whole thing blows up on him.
DEE -- I agree, the real concern isn't Cain but Teapublicans who actually support him. It's convincing me that evolution is a hoax, because obviously a percentage of the human species is devolving.
Dee at least if Cain does crash and burn he won't take the country with him like the POS that you voted for. Heck obama has TruePatroit believing that evolution is a hoax and he thinks the moonbats are devolving. TruePatroit you moonbats are still evolving the problem is the people that accused moonbats of being pea brained were wrong their craniums are still empty cavities, lmao "popcorn" :)
Steve Grubb's has a habit of picking losers. Steve's main concern is being paid!
The Iowa Caucuses have had a mixed success since 1980 in choosing the eventual GOP nominee.
1980 - George H.W. Bush won in Iowa - Reagan, the eventual nominee, came in second
1988 - Bob Dole won Iowa - G.H.W. Bush came in third - and was the eventual nominee
2008 - Huckabee won Iowa - McCain, the eventual nominee, came in 4th
They did get it right in 1996 with Dole and 2000 with G.W. Bush
With this group of winners why is this even news?
Another "Crazy Cain" consultant paid for by the Koch Brothers is coming in to help old "Crazy Cain" spew/spin his messages of madness. The Koch Brothers are pouring money towards the "Crazy Cain Campaign." The Koch Brothers are expecting a huge pay back in 2012. Will these Two greedy buggers get their wish?? I hope not America!!
Cain recently said that it was production that drives the economy. Evidently, he did not learn a whole lot when working as CEO of Godfather's Pizza. Think about it, do people call to order a pizza that is already made, or does the pizzeria make the pizza after it's been ordered? Even a buffet makes food based on previous and projected demand.
Yep, this is the guy to listen to on economic matters, right? Right?
FO, Richard, you POS.
If only the Repubs. could find someone worthy of the highest office in our land. I would love to see a Demos. could have a decent candidate to run against Obama.
