Romney to Gingrich: If you can't stand the heat, wait until Obama's Hell's kitchen

KEENE, N.H. --  On the first stop of his statewide bus tour today, Mitt Romney delivered a blunt message to rival Newt Gingrich when it comes to his Super PAC's attack ads: You think this is bad? You ain't seen nothing yet.

"I know that the speaker would like to say that we shouldn't have any negativity," Romney told NBC's Chuck Todd in an interview on MSNBC's The Daily Rundown. "But, look, if you can't handle the heat in this little kitchen, the heat that's going to come from Obama's Hell's kitchen is going to be a heck of a lot hotter. We have to show that we, as a Republican Party, and as a candidate that we can stand up to the barrage that's going to come from the Obama world."

Restore our Future, a super PAC supporting Romney, has purchased more than $3 million of advertising hitting Gingrich.

NBC's Chuck Todd spoke with Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney about the campaign.

“I have a simple challenge for Gov. Romney,” Gingrich said yesterday. “This PAC was created by his former staff and funded by his personal friends. If he wants to stop it, he can say [so] publicly. I am told they are going to spend $1.4 dollars next week. He can demand that every ad be positive. I don't object to being out spent, I object to lies. I object to negative smear campaigns and I object to things the candidate himself refuses to support.”

Romney said he agreed on telling the truth.

"The speaker thinks all negative attacks should end," Romney said, "but this is after all a campaign and campaigns do point out differences between candidates, draw out those distinctions. It's important that they be accurate, tell the truth. But I've been the subject of some pretty tough attacks that have come both from the speaker but also from President Obama's Super PAC."

The warning comes as Romney looks to lock down his support in New Hampshire by engaging in a statewide bus tour, flanked by top surrogates.

This morning, Romney was touted by the entire panel at the Stage Diner here before taking questions. Former Sen. Judd Gregg, Sen. Kelly Ayotte, and Congressman Charlie Bass all praised Romney's experience and electability. New endorsers Jennifer Horn (a conservative activist) and the Keene Mayor-elect also spoke.

The truth is that Romney can't stand the heat either. He starts whining. Gingrich holds it together and even gets very mean but Romney simply starts whining. Which one will look better debating Obama? Not Romney. Too bad that Republican's can't stand Gingrich. Call your representatives everyone so we keep $1500 in our pockets next year. Tell them to stop trying to pay for it on the backs of the elderly, poor, sick and disabled and raise the tax on the 300,000 wealthiest American instead and let's all have Happy Holidays!

It's important that they be accurate, tell the truth.

This from the guy that proudly lied in his campaign ad?

I used to think Romney was a typical flip flopping politician, but these days I'm thinking Romney is a reality impaired compulsive liar.

Yes, this is the same Newt Gingrich who taught the Repubs how to do negative vitriolic, lying campaigns and malign their opponents back in the day, now, poor Newt just can't take what he's created and managed to dish out all these years.

Well of course not, why would Gingrich want all his turds to float to the top, thus reminding voters that he is the worst person that could ever be POTUS and leader of the free world -- worse than Nixon or any other Republican (or Democrat), EVER.

Romney is correct. The Lame Street Media left wing propaganda machines are already gearing up for some mud slinging and smear tactics that we've never seen the likes of before. It will be unbelievable, and most of it garbage. It'll get nasty, especially if it starts to look like their savior might lose.

Clara KCMO-- the TyD Bowl Man -- LMAO! Except as hard as Snewty tries, he can't get the bowl clean.

skip Nicholson, Oklahoma City-- Studies show there's a lot to that (and why some conservatives point out it would be hard for Rubio, who is short, staring to lose his hair, and gaining weight so can't be a rising star--I'd add minority too). And why Perry always tries to stand tall next to Romney and others. Snewt doesn't even try sucking in his gut, but is definitely like a blind date--a really bad blind date--seems worth a try then becomes a disaster.

Jahmekan-- If it's not inner beauty or personality, maybe wealth and power? What does this say about his fellow adulterer Calista? She is no more First Lady material than Snewt is presidential.

You betcha! Nominate Newt, and we'll have him for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and we'll give ex-Republican Voters "Proof" for desert.

If Republicans would properly "vet" their candidates BEFORE they nominate them they'd know for themselves who and what their nominee is, but Republicans love to turn a blind eye and a deaf ear while they live in fairy tale land pretending their deeply flawed candidate is "perfect".

The republican right invented the "dirty tricks" political campaign. Forget about the Swift Boat campaign and remember the stories planted in South Carolina about John McCain having fathered a mixed race baby. Jesus people!... this was republican against republican. All in the favor of Kim Dong Bush. This is going to be the dirtiest election in this country's history and I hope the democratic left will spare nothing in dragging the republicans through every pile of cow @!$%# in the pasture. Listening to these republican crybabies whine about negative advertising makes me want to puke, preferably on Rick Santorum. When it comes to 2012 I hope the democrats go after these hypocrites tooth and nail!!! Never let up!!

I think Newt and Romney should spend some time reading the Bible. There is a lot about reaping what you sow and I hope it is time that Newt starts reaping. When I hear him say something about being positive it makes me want to puke! He wants to be positive after how many years of slimy negavity? And somehow with his Merry Christmas ad he even makes that seem slimy. Keep it Newt!

Anyone going into this current administration would come out with mud on their face. Remember where we were when Obama got elected? No? Really? People have such short memories. So like I said, anyone would come out with mud on their face. The really cool thing that Obama did was continue to get things done even with being faced with a brick wall of Tea baggers. I could bring up his military record, but that would be to easy. I could bring out the fact that unemployment claims are down below 2008 levels and the unemployment rate is shrinking... but, naw, that would be targeted by a redneck saying he ain't got a job yet.

I don't know what to say to my fellow Americans, he has played an amazing hand for the cards he was dealt. I am excited to see what could happen if he can be re-elected. I honestly can't believe the Republicans in our country are arguing over these two idiots. You want to give more of your money to the rich, be my guest. Just make sure it's a personal check, because I'm done sending them money.

Republicans' record is so bad they claim amnesia, and Republicans are not even capable of accepting responsibility so they cannot be in any position where "being responsible" is required. However, Republicans WILL try to lie and take credit for other people's accomplishments.

Off topic but with Christmas a few days away it's a nice idea to recognize some goodwill.

A new national movement is making the news. No not Occupy Wall Street. Quite the contrary, Layaway Angels are popping up from coast to coast. These altruistic folks are walking into large retail stores everywhere and paying off layaway charges for people they don't even know. Christmas is truly the season for giving! It's a safe bet that these Angels are conservatives. Historically, conservatives have been proved to be much more generous in charity than liberals.

The stark contrast between these Angels and the Occupiers couldn't be more glaring. Down at the dwindling Occupier events these "upstanding" citizens still prattle on about how someone else needs to be responsible for their student loans or how someone else should be responsible for the credit card balances, and how they are entitled to a living wage job. It's always me, me, me with the left.

So the layaway angels vs the occupiers just re enforces the notion that conservatives are the compassionate givers and the libs are the takers.

              Merry Christmas to all!

You had me till you got to "It's a safe bet that these Angels are conservatives. Historically, conservatives have been proved to be much more generous in charity than liberals." Not to mention "conservatives are the compassionate givers and the libs are the takers."

I've seen lots of reports recently on this phenomenon. None of them mentioned the political persuasion of either the givers or the recipients. In fact, most of the givers are going out of their way to remain anonymous, which is what true giving is all about.

But I'm happy to hear that you're a compassionate giver youself. From your prior postings on here, I'd never have guessed that you were the type to want to help out those less fortunate than you.

By the way, did you ever happen to think about the term "compassionate conservatism"? If I remember my English classes correctly, "compassionate" in this case is an adjective or a word that modifies the meaning of the noun it's attached to. Ever wonder why there's no such term as "compassionate liberalism"? It's because that would be redundant.

Peace and Goodwill, Rob - to ALL mankind.

Here some interesting reading on the subject Fielden.....

Sixteen months ago, Arthur C. Brooks, a professor at Syracuse University, published "Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism." The surprise is that liberals are markedly less charitable than conservatives.

If many conservatives are liberals who have been mugged by reality, Brooks, a registered independent, is, as a reviewer of his book said, a social scientist who has been mugged by data. They include these findings:

-- Although liberal families' incomes average 6 percent higher than those of conservative families, conservative-headed households give, on average, 30 percent more to charity than the average liberal-headed household ($1,600 per year vs. $1,227).

-- Conservatives also donate more time and give more blood.

-- Residents of the states that voted for John Kerry in 2004 gave smaller percentages of their incomes to charity than did residents of states that voted for George Bush.

-- Bush carried 24 of the 25 states where charitable giving was above average.

-- In the 10 reddest states, in which Bush got more than 60 percent majorities, the average percentage of personal income donated to charity was 3.5. Residents of the bluest states, which gave Bush less than 40 percent, donated just 1.9 percent.

-- People who reject the idea that "government has a responsibility to reduce income inequality" give an average of four times more than people who accept that proposition.

Brooks demonstrates a correlation between charitable behavior and "the values that lie beneath" liberal and conservative labels. Two influences on charitable behavior are religion and attitudes about the proper role of government.

Oh, and while canvassing for Barack Obama in 2008 I met no less than three Repubs who were deducting their political contributions as charitable,...A strict NO-NO; but they didn't believe me. Priceless, right?

Spot on Clara. This is a great link that discusses the flawed data espoused by Mr. Brooks. Primarily, the biggest concern is that contributions to a church are considered charitable gifts. So a Mormon who is mandated to tithe 10% of income gets counted as a charity giver even though those contributions are primarily used to support church specific expenses. Brooks article is frustrating because he uses charities to pit liberals against conservatives; church goers against non-denominational religious people; religious people against non-religious people. And then of course we get religious-conservatives like Rob playing the "I'm better than you" game.

Note, however, that generosity is not the same thing as donating to a nonprofit organization. These are different concepts. The first means, voluntarily helping others at some cost to oneself. The second means, giving money to an organization that qualifies as “not for profit” under the U.S. tax code.

Donations to one’s own church are tax-deductible. But that does not make them charitable, in the older sense of the word. They are membership dues for a social club. They do not benefit the wider community, as would, for example, donations to the Red Cross.

Well Clara it's certainly your right to reject my research. But the research is not mine. And Nick Kristoff cites the same research in an article that appeared in the New York Times with the following lead in....

"This holiday season is a time to examine who’s been naughty and who’s been nice, but I’m unhappy with my findings. The problem is this: We liberals are personally stingy."

To Rob in ma - Having been in the philanthropic world for the past fifteen years I can tell you that your assertion that conservatives give more than liberals is absolutely false. I am not sure where you are getting your information. I have never seen any data that breaks down giving based on political affiliation. If you have it, I would like to see it. What is most telling is that those who have the least give the most.

I love Romney warning Gingrich of the attack ads to come from the Obama campaign. This from a Republican, whose party has been behind birtherism, post-Kenyan colonialism, "not one of us", Muslim, communist, socialist, hates America and any other mud they can think of to throw at President Obama. And when they are running out of things, they throw in teleprompter.

Rob, another off-topic.....but why the heck not.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all on this site. I heard of the Lay-away angels too Rob, but yesterday I had the opportunity to see a young soldier and his family of four sitting down in a nice restaurant in our area. Knowing the pay structures of young soldiers, I told our server to take their order and put it on my account, price wasn't a concern.

Naturally, the young family looked around to see who may have paid for their meal. My reward was the happy faces of the younger ones at the table. If you see one of our service members out, think well of them too - make a contribution to them for their service.

Again, to all on this site, have a joyous holiday season!

For the past few Easter Sundays I've quietly picked up the checks for some elderly couples that I figured to be in a tough spot. Their surprise and smiles made my day that more enjoyable.

George Bush began the bailouts, and Obama continued in order to prevent a depression, and now the economy is turning around and 70% of the stimulus money has been paid back. Ronald Regan gave millions of illegal immigrants amnesty, and more illegal immigrants have been turned back at the border under Obama than any other president in history. Look at what he has done to dismantle Al Qaeda including taking out Osama. This is just a hate mongering diatribe.

When Obama took over the Dow was at 7000, now it's at about 12,000. We were losing 700K jobs a month, now we have gains each month. The Republican Party wanted GMC to declare bankruptcy, but Obama insisted on loaning the money to stay afloat, they are now profitable and paying back the loan. He got Osama and the vast majority of the Al Queda leadership, and helped the Arab Spring movement to take down Gaddafi with no loss of American lives. Oh my. You must have been educated in the Rick Perry school system.

                      Definition of SOCIALISM

                      1
: any of various economic and political theories advocating collective or governmental ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods

                      2
a : a system of society or group living in which there is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlled by the state

                      3
: a stage of society in Marxist theory transitional between capitalism and communism and distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done

                      Definition of COMMUNISM

                      1
a : a theory advocating elimination of private property b : a system in which goods are owned in common and are available to all as needed

                      2
capitalized a : a doctrine based on revolutionary Marxian socialism and Marxism-Leninism that was the official ideology of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics b : a totalitarian system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production c : a final stage of society in Marxist theory in which the state has withered away and economic goods are distributed equitably d : communist systems collectively

Socialism: government owns and distributes everything...Communism: a final stage of Marxist theory - no government and goods are distributed equitably

The two are diametrically opposing ideologies. Neither of which would ever happen in this country. Remember, please, democracy and our political system. No self-respecting (choke choke) American politician (and there are so many) would be willing to give up his job due to the downsizing of government under socialism or the abolishment of government under true communism.

If you must resort to name calling, please don't hide behind your ignorance. Just come right out and tell us why you are so frightened by our system of government. The system that allows each of us to form our own opinion and vote as each of us feels best support our goals and ideals.

I don't think so. The majority of Americans love everything the Democrats are doing to try to bring us OUT of the damage Republicans did to America AND the American People the last time Republicans were in charge.

Also, we still haven't forgotten how Republicans refuse to take responsibility for their mistakes, and instead try to pretend they have "amnesia".

Maybe one day after Republicans are capable of handling and accepting responsiblity, we might reconsider IF Republicans have anybody good, but this is NOT that time.

"Hell's kitchen?" Romney speaks as if he comes from a religious experience that would allow 12 wives to be in the same kitchen at once. Does he suffer from past-life regression?

On this I agree with Willard. Poor widdle Newty, he is being picked on.

Historically political campaigns have been dirty.

President Andrew Jackson suffered all sorts of lies told about him by his opponents, we saw dirty campaigning against Grover Clevelend by Benjamin Harrison. People eventually figured out what Harrison was really all about they voted for Cleveland agan and Harrison was a one term president. Then there was Tricky Dick Nixon who tried to use dirty tricks and spy on the Democrats among other things.

"Historically political campaigns have been dirty." So true! For several decades, the Democrats used J. Edgar Hoover as their spy, watch dog, and lap dancer. Looks like the beat goes on.

I believe that the heat of hell will be even yet, more hotter! So many American are suffering under the heat and hell of poverty, and I lay much of the blame on Bush I II, Reagan, Clinton, Romney, Gingrich et al, with the ink on president Obama not yet dried - He too has done some things not in the interest of common Americans!

Rah13, like what? What do you claim President Obama "has done" that is "not in the interest of common Americans" because I don't believe one word of that is true.

President Obama has been in the fight of his life to do everything he possibly can do for the good of the American People, and it's just not right to try to bunch the POTUS up with Republicans who can't stand the thought of seeing a poor child put a crumb of bread in its mouth.

Republicans are strictly for the rich, and they intend to remain in Washington over the Holiday Season, fighting for BIG OIL in hopes that Republicans can force us American Taxpayers to pay for BIG OIL's Keystone Pipeline the same way Republicans forced the American People to pay for that Lie Called The War In Iraq.

It's interesting to read the numerous remarks posted on here by Demobots. I have to wonder why they bother though. It's not like any of them are planning to vote for a conservative candidate. The issue at hand in this article is whether conservatives will vote against Newt because of Romney's negative ads. This is a conservative issue which will be settled by conservatives come election time. As far as Demobot comments go, feel free to comment away but be advised, most of us conservatives really don't care what you have to say or think about a conservative issue.

May I break a little news to you fella? In this country we don't vote against someone. We cast our ballots FOR someone.

Please vote nominate Gingrich! Romney is most likely to give Obama the strongest run, but will lose anyway, just by a smaller margin than Newt will.

Obama has the black vote, but other than that I don't know of too many people who can stand that man. totally worthless. I would say thought that Obama has his 40% and the republicans have their 40% with the middle 20% likely to go to the republican regardless of the comments on this site. The economy su cks and he has not done anything to turn it around so its his noose. As far as the article, Romney is right, Its takes millions and millions of dollars to bury your competitor. How else is he going to win. It certainly aint about anything with substance....He know the voting public has an attention span of nat so Newt better get ready for it and try to hang on before the actual voting begins.

There really are no conservative issues. There's just a lot of demagoguery on hot-button issues to distract us from the damage they are doing to our country. Americans sit and argue about gay marriage while the Weeper of the House holds the middle class hostage to Grover Norquist and an oil pipeline that will benefit only their Big Oil puppet masters.

In case you did not realize it, Negative adverisement in a political climate is intended to make you vote for someone other than the target of the ads. In effect it causes you to vote against a person.

He showed his writers having complete breakdowns throwing stuff out the windows and Stewart was in complete depression! But then, happy day...Gingrich took the lead!
