Comments from Newt Gingrich's ex-wife haven't slowed the former House Speaker's momentum. NBC's Ron Mott reports.
Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum have fought in the closing days of the South Carolina primary to remind voters of the headaches Republicans faced during the speakership of Newt Gingrich, highlighting in particular the ethics investigation that led to his official reprimand.
For his part, Gingrich has dismissed the investigation as an essentially partisan exercise; a spokesman for the former speaker called it "Nancy Pelosi's ethics witch-hunt" on Friday afternoon.
But that hasn't satisfied Gingrich's GOP foes. On Friday, Romney called on Gingrich to release any records relating to the ethics investigation -- a response, in part, to Gingrich's demand that the former Massachusetts governor release his tax records.
"One of the issues that was raised last night by Rick Santorum was the fact that he was pushed out of the House by his fellow members. I think over 80 percent of Republican congressmen voted to reprimand the speaker of the House -- first time in history," Romney said in Gilbert, S.C. "Nancy Pelosi has the full record of that ethics investigation. You know it’s going to get out before the general election."
It cuts to the core of a concern about Gingrich on the lips of many Republicans: While he is credited as a visionary, his speakership was marked by internal Republican discord and personal missteps that made it difficult for the Republicans whom Gingrich had led to Congress to govern. (It's that context which helped give legs to the allegations made Thursday by Gingrich's ex-wife that he had asked for an "open" marriage, or had otherwise asked for a divorce.)
"I don't want a nominee that I have to worry about going out and looking at the paper the next day and figuring out … worrying about what he's going to say next," Santorum, the former Pennsylvania senator, said at Thursday night's debate.
But just as Romney's campaign has been reluctant to make public the candidate's tax records, so, too, the Gingrich campaign seems unlikely to release any new documents about the investigation into his actions, which concluded in 1997.
"Unlike Mitt Romney's Tax Returns, the documents and reports from Nancy Pelosi's ethics witch-hunt vs. Newt have been [for] over a decade," Gingrich spokesman R.C. Hammond wrote on Twitter.
Indeed, the House Select Committee on Ethics has long-posted on its website the entirety of its findings against Gingrich. The Romney campaign is asking for the release of additional documents and details used by the committee as part of its deliberations, a request that goes well beyond what's required of the former speaker. Gingrich has estimated that his office had turned over "1 million pages of material" to the ethics office, much of which may be protected under the private deliberations of the committee.
But a number of other details about the investigation, which culminated in an official House vote to reprimand Gingrich and a $300,000 bill to reimburse the committee's investigation, are a matter of public record.
The investigation was initiated by a complaint filed in September of 1994 by Gingrich's opponent for re-election that alleged a course Gingrich had tought at Kennesaw State College essentially served political purposes despite the class having been advertised as a not-for-profit activity; one that served a primarily educational function.
The investigation was eventually expanded to probe what role GOPAC, the political action committee founded to help train GOP candidates for office, played in support of that college course.
The ethics committee concluded its work in 1997, saying in its findings that Gingrich had misled the committee in its investigations. The eight-member panel stopped short of saying Gingrich had lied, but said the then-speaker had been either "intentional" or "reckless" in his representations of his activities during the investigation. The ethics committee, which is divided evenly on party lines, voted 7-1 in favor of its judgment, and recommendation that the full House vote to reprimand Gingrich and require the reimbursement of $300,000 for extra time spent on the investigation as a result of Gingrich's misstatements.
The House did overwhelmingly approve the reprimand, voting 395-28 to approve the punishment. Twenty-six Republicans broke ranks to oppose the punishment. An official reprimand is a step below censure in severity of congressional discipline.
At the time, as recounted in a Jan. 19, 1997 story in The Washington Post, Gingrich had accepted the penalty and reprimand. But Gingrich ultimately blamed his attorneys for making mistakes that led to the misleading information. "I trusted the law firm to have done the job right. They didn't do the job right and I didn't catch them," he said on Jan. 25, according to a CNN report at the time.
But while the investigation was conducted in a nonpartisan fashion, it's also true that the investigation and reprimand of Gingrich -- the first for a sitting speaker -- was a potent political issue.
According to accounts during the controversy, Republicans were particularly incensed by Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., a member of the ethics committee who leaked audio of Gingrich plotting with aides to combat the charges. The leak fueled partisan rancor over whether Gingrich was being targeted unfairly because of his political stature.
(It's also true that the investigation drove some internal Republican dissent. Throughout the course of the investigation, some Republican members called on Gingrich to step aside temporarily, while others suggested they would not support Gingrich for a second term as speaker. He won a second term with 216 votes, despite some GOP defections.)
The sense, though, that the investigation had been a partisan exercise was rekindled by comments made by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) in December. Pelosi was a member of the eight-member ethics panel to conduct the Gingrich investigation.
“I know a lot about him. I served on the investigative committee that investigated him, four of us locked in a room in an undisclosed location for a year. A thousand pages of his stuff," she told the left-leaning news website TalkingPointsMemo.
Pelosi would be barred by releasing that information, since the ethics committee is charged with conducting its inquiries in private.
That prompted Gingrich to call Pelosi's words in December an early "Christmas gift."
"Just a reminder, that committee was extraordinarily partisan. The job of the Democrats was to get Newt Gingrich," he said on Dec. 6 on CNBC. "They couldn't beat any of our ideas, so they decided to try to beat the messenger. And I think it actually will help people understand what happened in that period and how much of it was partisan."
But it's Pelosi's veiled threat on which Romney's campaign is leaning Friday. "If Nancy Pelosi has this information, Barack Obama has this information," Romney communications director Gail Gitcho said in an email to reporters.

How's the campaign going Mitt?...
In the words of the immortal Michael Ray Richardson, late of the NY Knickerbockers;
"The ship be sinking"
Ah! But is he willing to go down with the ship?
Since we are doing sports analogies and golf is a big topic for team red ... seems Mitt headed into SC looking to be three strokes up but now he maybe leaving two stokes down.
Gingrich will go down with the ship before Mittens. Why anyone in the republican party would support a man who was kicked out for ethics violations is beyond me. However, really doesn't matter, Obama is going to win in 2012.
The media that failed to vet Obama is receiving some backlash. It's about time!
The backlash building is against the main stream media who is so obviously "spinning" fake or hyped-up charges that no one really cares about, in an lame effort to once again try to push a radical Obama off on to us...........
Newt Gingrich is now at the TOP of the South Carolina Polls, and rising fast all over the country, thanks to the rejection of main stream media transparent foolish "spin".
I know, lets investigate the Reporters private lives to see if they are "the right kind" to report on candidates or not? We need to investigate the private lives of theses Reporters. We have a right to know if these Reporters are squeeky-clean or not.
Sniper - Just call those reporters terrorists and they can be arrested and have no trial. Gotta love watching our freedoms being taking away...
As for Ging"RICH" - well.. when you are on TOP, there is only one place to go.. "DOWN".
Ah, please read the article. Newt was not kicked out. He was in fact reelected as Speaker for a second term.
Also so what if Peloski has documents. If she releases them or gives them to OBAMA, then both her and Obama would be in violation of the law and should be kicked out of office. After all that would effectively distroy any faith in the ethics of D.C. (as if there was any anyway.)
Nov. 5, 1998 Newt resigned from congress, the day after he was re-elected.
QUITTER QUITTER
Newt's intelligence is so far superior to any left wing moderator that it is just humorous,or any left wing anything.
He just put everybody in there place and they could say nothing,
He will be welcomed in the White House this election.
Newt Gingrich's standing ovations ( 2 just this week!) and his rise in all the polls are direct examples of the backlash building against the main stream media's dismal reporting.
If the polls are any indication of his popularity, I hope you Yank's Like Carbon taxes.
Willing.Sniper
Is that the same media that brought us Rev. Wright, Acorn, birth certificate questions, Kenyan father, community organizer, and voting record???
Sure, Clinton didn't do enough vetting trying to win the nomination. To some, the grueling debates during the nomination that carried on for months just wasn't good enough for them.
Somehow, there needs to be more vetting to satisfy the conservatives... like they would ever be satisfied.
meanwhile, Ron Paul is too busy talking about issues that Americans actually care about to have a comment on the matter.
Could be the same warped mindset that keeps people supporting Slick Willie. The facts "seem" to be coming back to one thing when it comes to the Newt. He is the one person, that the Republicans have, that the Democrats see as a REAL threat to Obama's bid for re-election. They don't appear to be worried about Romney and if they were they would be finding ways to attack him and the same goes for Santorum. I personally believe, that the Democrats and Obama, both were very worried about Herman Cain and again it is just my personal belief, that they were behind those who came forward with the sexual harassment complaints against him. The fact is the timing on this all stunk far too much for it to be just a coincidence as is the fact that the complaints and these people both seem to fade away as soon as Cain dropped out of the race for the Republican nomination. Now the Newt is the latest "real" Republican threat to Obama's re-election effort and this is reflected very plainly by Pelosi's threat directed at him. Now if she has proof that the Newt made a play to get her into bed sometime in the past, then I would support the fact that he should not be candidate for POTUS. In fact anyone that crazy should be locked up in a mental institution!
Could it be that the Democrats and Obama want America to see the Newt as not being POTUS material when in fact that is what the fear the most? Could it be that they know that the Newt may very well be a far better and more qualified POTUS that Obama was or ever will be and know that their only hope is to discredit hm in the eyes of the American voters? Remember folks IF this is what is going on behind the scenes (and none of us will ever know for a fact if it is or is not) it will not be the first time Obama has caused a political opponent to politically disappear.
This shows that voters do not believe Media spin anymore. They have been burned once when media pushed Obama off on them and not buying Media spin anymore.
You guys know this is THE Newt Gingrich that has managed to tick off the republican party on a daily basis on his last run in Congress, right?
Contract for America, thankfully, was not implemented which would have been a contract on America.
A former lobbyist, which we all know what that is.
Divorced his wife while she was on her deathbed.
Endorses slave labor, child labor, and starving the poor.
Wages war consistantly; Libya, Iran, and North Korea. A man you know you do not want holding the the nuclear fuse.
Now, you want him storming Washington with a flag in one hand and a Bible in the other???
I don't understand how anyone can believe a word out of Gingrich's mouth.......he is such a hypocrite that he is able to say anything he wants with a straight face.
The real problem is that none of these guys are worth voting for. It is sad that this is the best our country can get to run for the office of President...
For the Newtster to complain to the "debate" moderator how out of line the question was about the interview with his 2nd wife where she acknowledged he had asked her if she was ok with an open marriage, because his latest squeeze Calista was ok with it, after Newt gleefully tried to have Clinton impeached while he (Newt) was cheating on his 1st wife, is hypocrisy redefined. Redefined with as much gall (if Newt has any left) that it is incomprehensible. And then to hear people mindlessly cheer his incomprehensible gall when Newt called out the questioner, is almost, but not quite, more incomprehensible. Who are these people? Do they bother to actually follow the news and even question a candidate's phony indignation? Evidently not. They would rather believe everything he says, give him a standing ovation, while frothing at the mouth over their ignorance. C'mon South Carolinians, Newt has been so full of sh*t for so long, you really should know this by now. Oh well.....
Are you kidding me? Do you HONESTLY believe the Republican party has a nominee that Democrats see as a real threat? Really? ROFLMAO
As your hero GW Bush once said ... "Bring'em on"
It's a good thing all these conservatives come to MSN to keep those evil liberals in line...lmao.
Same old tired paradigms from the right. What happened to all the fear the liberals had for Palin?
Witch hunts in Washington...tit-4-tat. Is everybody blind yet or you got some more eye gouging left to do?
Gotta love conservatives who go to places they are not welcome and chastise everyone and everything they get upset about. Is politics really affecting you personally this much? Go enjoy a Friday night for once in your life...good gawd life is rough...lol.
So what we have is better to live with for another 4 years? Do you realize he VETO'd the pipeline from Canada to Oklahoma, that would have given Thousands jobs? And was all PRIVATLY FUNDED. There's a leader for us. Oh and his reason, wasn't enough time to get the FDA testing done.
If the Dems were smart they'd run someone else. Even if a Republican voter wasn't happy with the choice they have, they could at least have a choice other than ODUMBO. I can't believe that we have such weak choices all the way around the horn.
I believe a lot of people (IMO) won't vote at all and predict the lowest voter turn out ever.
Yes, what we have is far better than the dismal elite the republicans are throwing at us.
so true Ivan - and it is to weep
Newt has no morals no ethics and is not at any level fit to lead this country. Instead of being remorseful about that period of his life he attacks his former wife and mother of his children. No class whatsoever.
Anybody ever clicked on those ads on this page? I bet that woman who makes $72 an hour in Tucson (where I live) has a sister in Seattle who makes $72 an hour too. And they are both 51 but look 25...what more could you ask for from life.
Okay, how can I make this post fit the topic...awe crud, I can't. How is everybodys New Year going?
I see Rudi is in town on an inspirational tour...should I go?
Romney is just plain wishy-washy saying whatever the person(s) in front of him at the moment want to hear. Newt is just a snake........the republican (let's all get rich together club) scoundrel who cares nothing about the country but just about the aforementioned club. If Santorum were to be elected we would all be forced by law to attend sunday service and the gay community along with those who have been pro-abortion would all be put to death by public stoning.........then he'd start a war by dropping a nuke on Iran. The pathetic part is this seems to be the best that the republican party has to offer. Most of the Democratic hate party is just to dumb to realize that Webster's definition of "Liberal" is to be progressive thinking in nature and to secure all personal freedoms. Obama should win this election hands down. I'm an independent voting disabled veteran and my vote is for Obama.
and next week, Gingrich will be back on the ropes, hanging on and waiting for the bell. Round and round goes the Republican nominee merry go round. Newt's a hypocrite that has no sense of decency. This guy would burn alive before he would admit what a turd he really is. But go ahead and nominate him. IT WILL BE 1996 ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!!
drain, I have the same ads too. They must have sisters in Connecticut too..lol
donwright; it is 2012 - we are past peak oil production in North America and it only took 100 years to use that much, and demand is going up. Why would you want something that will only provide a short time solution? Are you saying we are not smart enough to move on to better solutions?
Tell me what you know about oil shale, then go watch the documentaries Gashole and Gasland- and tell me if you want to live around that stuff? When you can light your drinking well on fire, I'm pretty sure that is a bad thing. Tumors for everybody - and privately funded, that makes it okay...lmao.
Temporary jobs. Once the thing is built, the jobs go away leaving big profits for you know who.
Mike: where the heck have you been? Here on planet earth, SPEAKER Newt Gingrich was disciplined by an overwhelming majority of his fellow REPUBLICANS and forced out by an overwhelming majority of his colleagues. You can't put enough lipstick on that pig to pretend it was anything but a total repudiation of his "leadership" amid the ethics scandals....To claim victimhood by the big bad media, after leading the charge to insist Clinton's affair was fair game, just doesn't pass the laugh test (except with those who have those selective "only Democrats do bad things" memory).
Pretty low class, or, no class of Romney the Mormon, and Santorum the shoe shine boy to bring forth things that are all past history and meaningless.
Shame on you worms. Both of you are not worthy to become president of this country. You fit in the same useless category as Dumbama.
YUK!
Val: IE Bill Clinton
Ivan: IE Bill Clinton
Kate: I guess you would be the first in line to hook up with Slick Willy???
I can't believe some would seriously entertain the idea of putting Gingrich back in charge... And about his "being a changed man", I don't buy it. I would just assume, dare I say vote for Obama again; then so much as even elect Gingrich, even to hold position of authority as a dog catcher. And it isn't a matter of being happy with all of Obama's policies, like that rather unconstitutional personal imperative attached to the healthcare bill....
But seriously, Gingrich? I'm disappointed with the Repub party that they didn't actually bother to put up a better selection of potential representatives, then this. Jeb Bush, just to mention one name, would have been a better pick then Gingrich; and no, unlike W Bush Jr, Jeb wouldn't come out saying odd Bushisms a lot of the time.... Jeb is better spoaken then that.
First some irony. Newts second wife cheated with him, on his first wife. She was recovering from cancer surgery, when he visited her, with the news. I want a divorce.
Buyer beware.
And then, Newt gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar and both, a majority of Republicans 80% and all the Democrats, vote to rid themselves of a their leader and a crook.
And then there is the biggest irony of all, Newt suggesting poor children, to get a job as a janitor. Newt has never worked a day in his life. His speaking fees garner him, sixty grand a pop is, more that most middle class Americans earn, in a year.
Newt is a professor, of old bones or something like that. The saying "Those who can do, those who can't, teach." is very appropriate, for this cheater and thief.
Any one who would opt, for the slate of Republican candidates now showing in a comedy theater near you, must be illiterate or comatose.
OBAMA/BIDEN 2012
Dano: So what exactly is your point...are you actually going to argue that being censured for ethics violations and being forced to resign the speakership (led alone the whole cheating on two wives in a row) makes your boy especially qualified to be President because we had a President who was nearly impeached for getting a blow job? Maybe you want to rethink that argument a bit??
AP,
Romney 2012...That's my point..!!
O, an by the way Clinton was not nearly impeached for getting a BJ, he lied....The BJ had nothing to do with it...Get up to speed...
dano, you sound jealous of the stain on the blue dress.
Pathetic Ol Doc totally pathetic

They're from South Carolina. You know, the same place where during a Town Hall meeting one of their citizens shouted "keep your government hands off my Medicare!". That should tell you something about the educational level in that state.
It's sad we have so few people deciding who gets the nominations. There has to be a better way than having IW, NH, and SC going first. Unfortunately, the election payola is needed to drive their economies.
JimD,
Nope, if it were not for the pecker tracks old Bill would have thrown Monica way under the bus..She would have been just another jewel in his crown... LMAO !!!
4 more years of higher gas prices
4 more years of home forclosures
4 more years of LIES
4 more years of rising unemployment
If you want this, vote obama 2012
Newt's IQ make obama look Neandrathal
Wonder why all anti media comments are collapsed? Does the real truth hurt?
Apparently so!
Dano: boy have I got a bridge to sell you....apparantly you are a very tender age if you think the brouhaha over Clinton was just about a little ol' lie to the big bad prosecutor....no wonder you are so tender hearted about the corporations are people too guy.
Uh, Dave, I'm not sure you're the one to speak for Newt's IQ : that's "neanderthal".
Why does someone who hates Government want to run it?
(Not a rhetorical question).
Oh for Pete's sake, Newt is such a worm! Here, Newt...Either everybody counts, or nobody counts! Did you really believe that after the show you (yes, you) put on over Monica that you could get away with your blustering, fat guy bully show when asked about your own moral failures? And social conservatives who love to spout about "family values" and "Christian morality" should just flat be ashamed of themselves. I also reserve a portion of disgust for the moderator of the debate who tucked his tail and let Newt get away with it and turn it into his blazing headline of the night. It was years and years (and still now) that we hear about Bill and Monica and how nothing else that President Clinton did mattered beyond that fiasco but watch the same people come out of the wordwork to defend Newt with the platform that they don't care about marital difficulties or serial adultery and divorces!
Also, completely sick of the line that "liberals or Democrats" must be "scared" of the man or woman who is currently taking the heat. First of all, disgust and dismay isn't fear and....at this time, the Republicans are skinning their own alive and "liberals" have little to nothing to do with it. It isn't our turn yet.
The libs are getting very desperate trying to make up garbage about our next president contendors Mr. Speaker Newt and Governor Romney.
You can tell because they are starting to cry about it.
Truth Hurt's doesnt AP. Smiling
Really? Because, Newt was bawling so loudly that I couldn't have heard it.
Nice try Karen, You are embarasing yourself. LIB IQ Thanks for making my point
Interesting that the man that impeached a President over their private life - believes his private life is off limits. Newt Gingrich is beginning to sound like Bill Clinton. Did Ken Starr write this political game plan?
Should we call him William Jefferson Gingrich or should we call him Newton Leroy Clinton? No wonder Sarah Palin expressed support for Gingrich - quitters hang together.
Oh look it's the "We want Dubya back" crowd shouting to the world how proud they are of their failed policies, let's count them...tax break for the rich while virtually no new jobs created...Bin-laden on the loose...two wars put on the credit card...Laizze-faire economics...gee where did that get us? Keeping going back to your failed ideas another definition of insanity (doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results). Where are the real ideas? Besides getting rid of the EPA or gubmint altogether.
Bottom line is barry huesain is at rock bottom , nobody listens to his carnival barking anymore, the country is tired of his parting on our money and his b@#$h flying in our jets. barry get ready your golf league is kicking your do nothing butt out. I hope sorros doesnt pay for any more b-day parties.
The most illeagel group of people to be in the white house, obama ,pelosi frank ried gietner, ect the list does not end
The idea that liberals are making things up about any of the Republican candidates is a crack-up. They don't need to make up anything at this point even if they were so inclined. Funny how the mud they are slinging at each other is somehow a liberal conspiracy. Maybe one or two of them are secretly planted double agents.
4 more years of downturn in America ,vote obama
Karen, Please explain why barry had a pass on all of his past, and did not have to give anybody any records for anything, and some of nis past was illeagle, wHAT ABOUT HIS COCAINE PROBLEM.
Or do youwish to drink kool aid
"A spokesman for the former speaker called it "Nancy Pelosi's ethics witch-hunt" on Friday afternoon."; "Just a reminder, that committee was extraordinarily partisan. The job of the Democrats was to get Newt Gingrich," Gingrich said on Dec. 6 on CNBC. "They couldn't beat any of our ideas, so they decided to try to beat the messenger."
Let's go back to 1998. In the first quote, exchange Nancy Pelosi's name with Newt Gingrich. In the second quote, exchange the "job of the Democrats" to "the job of the Republicans". Now exchange "to get to Newt Gingrich" to "to get to President Clinton".
Deja vu set in yet? We've seen this very same movie before. The character's names have been changed ( not to protect the innocent), but the plot remains the same. If Pelosi was the villain in the remake, then Gingrich was the villain in the original score. If Newt Gingrich was the victim in the remake, then President Clinton was the victim in the original score.
You can't have it both ways. When your wicked ways come back to bite you in the butt, it is commonly known as Karma.
Now commensense let's us know why obama will be out
Dave, I don't know what you are talking about and I respectfully assume that you don't really want an answer anyway.
For the record, I don't recall his Ex-Wife actually saying that Newt literally asked her to live in an open marriage. If I'm correct she said something to the effect that what he did say she understood was a request for an open marriage. It was the interviewer who pressed the term "Open Marriage" and not the Newt who said the words.
Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer to see Newt fed piecemeal to a fisher-cat rather than see him as president. But what is fair is fair. Listen closely to the dialogue when his Ex mentioned that he called her while in bed with his Newest Wife and you'll see what I mean.
Respectfully I would stick my head in the sand also Karen,
It's called bye bye barry. No Offense but you did not have an answer. ABO 2012
Newt is a real politician, commits a despicable act against his ex while married to her and when he is asked about it he lays all the fault on the media.
With a man like him in office we will be the most hated laughing stock people in the world.
If the Newt audiences are true Americans I am embarrassed to be American.
That's President Obama to you, Dave.
Dave, you're watching way too much faux news if you think "barry" had a pass on his past. Maybe you mean the pass he had when he wouldn't show his birth certificate from the ubangi mumbowa tribe in Kenya? What cocaine problem are you referring to? The one when he did a line in college, kinda like the problem 95% of college kids have, except if you're talking about chimpy who did way more than a line or two and drank himself silly....or is it stupid?
On the contrary Dave, president Barack Whosane Obama INHERITED the worst recession since the one that became a depression back in the late 20s and early 30s. Since Whosane became president, due primarily to TARP and the bailouts of the criminal banksters and flim-flam mortgage lenders, which the righties generally opposed, but Obama decided was necessary and swallowed real hard to implement, GM is once again profitable and the LARGEST AUTOMAKER IN THE WORLD. In the meantime, most of the financial institutions have REPAID what they borrowed during the bailout, the Dow has rebounded quite nicely, and the economy is gradually improving, despite chimpie's tax cuts for the wealthiest of the wealthy, two unpaid for wars, an almost totally unregulated financial industry that would sell a house to a ham sandwhich, then come up with creative financial instruments like "derivatives", whereby those ham sandwich loans would get sliced and diced and sold to trusting, but gullible, investors like you and me, or on a somewhat larger scale, pension and retirement funds based on the notion that all this property sold to ham sandwiches, property sold with very "creative" financing that enabled the ham sandwich to procure delis it really couldn't afford, delis the lender knew were about to explode, leaving the neighborhood dripping in mayo, and the delis worth a fraction of what the ham sandwiches paid to the unscrupulous lenders. This is but a small cause of the recession....credit cards issuers were charging exorbitant rates, and payday lenders, or should I say loan sharks, were still allowed to proliferate, charging interest rates that would make a guy named gweedo, with a bent nose, blush.
My point is Dave, our President is doing the things necessary to gradually improve our economy, despite the millions of jobs that have been outsourced to China, India, Mexico, Malaysia, you name it and there is guy with a heavy accent named Larry who would be glad to help you fix your computer. And then there are the righties in congress whose only purpose in life is to keep Obama from winning another term, even if it means voting down bills in the House that might actually benefit the economy, or the righties in the Senate who have initiated a record number of filibusters...I mean a big time record....essentially taking it upon themselves to rewrite the constitution, albeit some informally, to require 60 votes to pass a bill rather than the simple majority required by that pesky document.
And I couldn't end this diatribe without pointing out all the folks who suddenly came out of the woodwork soon after Obama was elected to protest the deficit, something that may have been new to their vocabulary, but Dick Armey and a guy named Grover told them they should be damned worried about, even if chimpy had ballooned this thing called the deficit when he was the prez. I'm just trying to figure out what the difference is between a white guy with a goofy smirk called chimpy and a black guy who's obviously more intelligent, more well spoken, more respected around the world, yet these people expect the black guy to fix in 3 years what the white guy f*ucked up in 8 years. What is the difference between the white guy and the black guy....can someone help me out on this baffling question?
Jon, the Newtmeister may not have used the words "open marriage", but I believe he made it clear to wifey #2 that he wanted that arrangement, when he said Calista was down with it, yet he still wanted to stay married. That kinda means open marriage, right JonJon? I didn't get the impression at all that the interviewer was trying to put words in her mouth. What she described was Newt asking her if she was ok with Newt continuing to see the gal he was already boinkin', he just wanted to feel better about being a pig by getting her permission, before he went to family values training.
Thanks Willing Sniper, for once again, giving us the sick fascist viewpoint.
Never Stop Asking Questions
Why does someone who hates Government want to run it?
Sells books so Newt can buy more girdles (industrial strength) so the people in the first row at his speeches are safe.
BOSSLIMO-
You are all over the place with your baseless accusations and rewriting of history. Newt may have been disliked by party insiders - but he managed to get things done and with a Democrat in the White House no less. A few corrections on your misstatements and falicies:
Contract for America, thankfully, was not implemented which would have been a contract on America.
- Contract for America WAS implemented. Some of the legislation from the Contract included: (1) Fiscal Responsibility Act (passed, but later ruled unconstitutional), (2) Taking Back Our Streets Act (enacted), (3) Personal Responsibility Act (enacted), (4) American Dream Restoration Act (enacted), (5) National Security Restoration Act (enacted), (6) Common Sense Legal Reform Act (passed, but vetoed by Clinton. Similar act was enacted after overriding Clinton veto), (7) Job Creation and Wage Enhancement Act (split into 4 bills - 3 of the 4 were enacted), (8) Citizen Legislature Act (term limits) (did not pass as it required 2/3 vote).
A former lobbyist, which we all know what that is.
- Gingrich was not a registered lobbyist. He was a paid consultant. Gingrich actually spoke against passing legislation regarding Freddie.
Divorced his wife while she was on her deathbed.
- His first wife is alive and kicking. She was NEVER on her deathbed. The conversation about divorce settlement issues occurred when she was in the hospital recovering from the removal of a benign tumor.
Endorses slave labor, child labor, and starving the poor.
- Since when does instilling a work ethic in young people qualify as child labor? Slave labor??? Seriously????? Starving the poor? Just where do you get that from?
When was the last time you had a kid offer to rake leaves or shovel snow to make a few bucks? How often to you just see kids hanging out, loitering about with the buddies after school? Idle kids leads to trouble. What is so wrong with a work study program? Giving kids after school jobs at school (cafeteria, office, library, etc.) provides them with supervision and cash.
Wages war consistantly; Libya, Iran, and North Korea. A man you know you do not want holding the the nuclear fuse.
- When exactly did Newt declare war on anyone? I believe that Obama launched us into Libya. We are not at war with Iran (but their psycho leader cannot get his hands on a nuke - who knows what he would do with it). And, I believe that Truman was President when the US got involved in the Korean War - there is currently no war with North Korea. As far as controlling our nuclear arsenal - generally people refer to it as having the finger on the button - but the same scare tactics were said about Reagan when he was running for President - don't think he pushed that button did he? And the result???? The break-up of the Soviet Union and the removal of the Berlin Wall.
BOSSLIMO-
You are all over the place with your baseless accusations and rewriting of history.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.
How amazing. People condemning Clinton for his affair but supporting Gingrich without regard to his *multiple* affairs. "He may be a bank robber, but he's OUR bank robber!"
How can he cheat on his wives (fact) ... cheat on us while he's speaker of the House (fact) and the GOP is still considering him to be our president ... is it a wonder that we wound up with Bush?????
Dave-2664536
4 more years of higher gas prices
4 more years of home forclosures
4 more years of LIES
4 more years of rising unemployment
If you want this, vote obama 2012
Newt's IQ make obama look Neandrathal,
Dave I like your poem but here is how it should read,
4 more years of higher gas prices
4 more years of home forclosures
4 more years of LIES
4 more years of rising unemployment
If you want this, vote Newt 2012
Obama's IQ make Newt's look microbial,
Why are you in such a rush to endorse a man who actions imply do as I say and not as I DO?
Newton ? Gingrich was pushed out the house by HIS OWN PARTY. Books could be written about his ethic violations and probably were. The man went after William Jefferson Clinton for a B. J. when he was not only cheating on his ex wife, but on Callista too? If Newt wants his sex life treated as "nobodys" business then he better get his own house in order, or install shatter proof glass, because of all the stones that will thrown, figuratively I hope. I am not endorsing throwing real stones at anyone.
As long as Newt wants to act like an S.O.B. I am okay with treating him as such. Has Obama cheated on Michelle? Post a link to show he has. Has unemployment spiraled up under Obama? Show me where it has besides Fox News. For a time gasoline prices were nearly 4 bucks a gallon under Bush. Obama cannot sign a decree rolling gasoline prices back down to three dollars or less. Why is having a Black man as president such a terrible thing that his opponents will lie through their teeth?
Do you think Lincoln would approve of using black school children as slave labor in the school districts? More white people are on food stamps then black. Why is it okay to demonize the black families on food stamps and insist they get jobs instead. Newt has done both. And you want him as president?
I could go on and on but you are not worth it Dave.
I wish the news media would stop investigating and reporting things like Newt's attempt to solicit an "open marriage" from his wife so he could have sex with a mistress.
I agree with Newt in his response to the debate moderator's question; we need to be able to have "decent" people to chose from for public office.
"DECENT?" I can't believe he even said that. Hilarious! Typical GOP crap.
"He may be a slimeball, but he's OUR slimeball!"
Those Republicans...
4 more years of higher gas prices - the President of the United States does not control oil prices. Wanna complain, take it to OPEC. Let us know how you make out.
4 more years of LIES - ? Would you like to expound on that one? Next to Newt's hypocritical bs, Obama looks like a Boy Scout.
4 more years of rising unemployment - Unemployment is on it's way down, which is bad news for you guys. Your Republican led congress has tried to block any jobs bill measures that would have lowered it significantly. The public has seen this and will vote those villains out in November.
Ethics WOES? As if he made a couple of mistakes and he regrets them? HELL NO. Gingrich apologizes only for political gain. The man has stated openly that he shouldn't have to follow the code of ethics he enforces on others because he's so much better at delivering the message he's supposed to be preaching.
I don't believe that a candidate's personal life is generally relevant. I'm an Atheist, and I don't really believe in the concepts of Righteousness and Evil (in the religious sense), but I think Newt Gingrich is actually evil. He's a definitive sociopath. He's a tyrant in waiting. Fortunately for him, he's got a base of people who hate the idea of liberalism (the founding principle of the United States, for the record) so much that they applaud his evil.
I don't think you should make a big deal about a president who commits adultery in the White House. That's a BAD thing, but it's nothing... NOTHING... compared to a Newt Gingrich who chastises the president who's doing so while DOING THE EXACT SAME THING, while his wife is IN THE HOSPITAL WITH CANCER.
all that Newts popularity proves is a short attention span and ability to ignore facts
Newt's Conservative values are hogs with lipstick !!!!
Newt is responsible for massively increasing the power of the Speaker of the House's position. anyone that thinks he won't try to do the same with the Presidency is delusional. Newt is all about the power of Newt. Constitution be damned
All of this over a college class Gingrich taught?
Is that the best that the Democrats can come up with?
How about Pelosi protecting Congressman Jefferson from Louisiana, who was caught with $90,000 of bribes in his freezer, or Charlie Rangel, Chairman of the tax writing committee who 'forgot' to disclose many of his assets and his illegal use of 'rent controlled' offices in NYC?
Newt Gangrene's racist rhetoric may play well in the southern states. His insults aimed at the press, (esp. Juan Williams), may leave those Confederate flag flying imbeciles ebullient as they stand and applaud, spitting and spewing hatred for minorities; blaming Pres Obama for increases in the distribution and usage of food stamps, (34% white recipients as opposed to 23% of blacks), as Newt the Hoot, even points at the media, accusing them and blaming them for his own infidelity; NONE of this sh!t will save his ass when he faces Pres Obama in the generals later on in November 2012! Obama will shred Newt's armor of false indignation, his cloak of accusations, as well as his scowling disapproval of the press and will leave Newt naked and paralyzed from his neck to his knees; and his GOP cronies and Super Pac's will NOT be able to shield him any longer! In the generals, Newt will finally face the intellectuals who actually read and those who are capable of deciphering the hieroglyphics of the shady Republican Party! Scrutiny, morality, honesty, temperament, facts and truth; will finally come into play. O' Boy!
One thing is certain at this point, Obama simply doesn't have enough baggage to bring him down with regard to his past. Obama may not be squeaky clean but he is pure compared to the RePUP nominee that he will have to face. No extramarital affairs, no questions or investigations of missing money, no fines or fees having been paid for charges levied against him by his own Party and NO history of being bought by companies nor industries; nor the like. No secrecy regarding the money he made or the taxes he paid. Obama does things the right way and though he may fail at times to be the perfect president; compared to the GOP hopefuls, Pres Obama comes across as being at least trustworthy in the eyes of those who vote! Hillbilly hyperbole won't do; it just won't do! The night light will be turned on and every shadow will be revealed for its true self and ultimate worth! If it be Willrat Romney, his fate will be even worse!
cruzin596
Don't get me wrong, I like Newt... as the nominee. I was just pointing out some of the issues you will have running him.
Fortunately, the average american will be a little wiser than lean so far right and vote him as president. Bling Rich will certainly have a pile of crap he needs to hide.
When Libya first started with their revolution, he said we should go in with guns blazing. When the president sent military aide, he flip-flopped. Guess you were away on vacation or something.
Seriously, are you ready to arrest supreme court justices? http://articles.businessinsider.com/2011-12-21/politics/30541586_1_president-gingrich-newt-gingrich-federal-judges
How about attacking muslims right here in the USA? http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2011/12/13/gingrichs_war_on_shariah__112383.html
Sure, believe whomever that he doesn't promote war. I mean, fighting Pakistan isn't really war, right?
"Scott Pelley: Mr. Speaker, how do you achieve peace in Afghanistan if you don't negotiate with the Taliban?
Newt Gingrich: I don't think you do.
Scott Pelley: Would you agree that the Taliban--
Newt Gingrich: Look, I-- I think this is so much bigger and deeper a problem than we've talked about as a country that we-- we don't have a clue how hard this is gonna be. First of all, the Taliban survives for the ex-- the very same reason that historically we said guerillas always survive, which
… ... more
is they have a sanctuary. The sanctuary's Pakistan. You're never gonna stop the Taliban as long as they can sort of hide. And you-- and you have proof every week in new bombings and new killings and new training. So I think this has to be a much larger strategic discussion that starts with, frankly, Pakistan on the one end and Iran on the other, because I-- Afghanistan is in between the two countries and is the least important of the three countries." http://www.thepoliticalguide.com/Profiles/House/Georgia/Newt_Gingrich/Views/The_War_in_Afghanistan/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xkDCA7GyPVQ&feature=player_embedded
Yeah, Gingrich is a peace loving man. (cough)
LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT! the NEWT IS A SWINGER!!! all you REPUBLICAN RETARDS deserve what you got as canidates!!! OBAMA will have NO problem winning this election!!
Wade - thank you for calling Dave out. The lies and garbage he is spewing lacks intelligence and integrity! The GOP has no one running who is worth two cents. And Dave, President Obama released his tax records, etc, something Mitt is hesitant to do since everyone will see what a fraud he truly is. Newt will release his but his personal garbage is too much for any sane person to take. He's never met a wife he didn't cheat on or a lie he didn't tell. He paid $300,000 in fines for ethics violations and was forced out of the House when all of his fellow Republicans voted to censure him. He is a total liar and cannot be trusted from one minute to the next.
No one if afraid of the GOP and the losers it runs. We're too busy cleaning up the mess from the last Republican President to spend time worrying about the trash you're running these days.
They don't have me running SeekingSanity. I am registered with the Republican party. But don't hold that against me. I am an old guard Lincoln Republican. I actually agree with Barack Obama on almost everything. If I were in the white house I would veto any budget that did not change the tax code back to what it was under Clinton. The R.I.N.O.'s who accepted the change in the GOP would say my name and spit. For the record, I consider every Republican who is not at least willing to compromise to be a R.I.N.O.,.
Ty for commenting on my post.
Hahahahahahahahahahaha... oh wait, he's serious! Don't you realize this was tried before? In 2010, the Repubs floated a quickie about Jeb running... the backlash convinced them that W had tarnished the Bush name enough that another Bush was pure poison! Please, please, please Republicans, run Jeb Bush against Obama!
Now, as for the future, who knows? I would have bet against Gingrich ever holding another elected office after his own party threw him out of the House back in '98. But here we are 14 years later and he's one of the front-running Republican candidates for president. I guess any stink fades after enough time.
"The Romney campaign is asking for the release of additional documents and details used by the committee as part of its deliberations, a request that goes well beyond what's required of the former speaker. Gingrich has estimated that his office had turned over "1 million pages of material" to the ethics office, much of which may be protected under the private deliberations of the committee."
So let me see if I've got this straight.....Romney wants Gingrich to turn over a million pages of material, but Romney - in his own words - is too busy trying to defeat President Obama to come up with a handful of tax returns?
Look, as I said on an earlier thread, I'm not exactly panting with excitement over Romney's tax returns. I doubt they'll tell us much we don't already know or at least suspect. But come on, Mitt.....be fair. If you're too busy, then so is Gingrich. And when you start looking to Nancy Pelosi to bail you out, you've by-passed "defensive" and are getting dangerously close to "desperate".
JoAnne--It really has turned into a three-ringed circus, and now the clowns are in all three rings. Vote for Cain/Colbert!
The key part you seem to have missed is this: "the release of additional documents and details used by the committee as part of its deliberations, a request that goes well beyond what's required of the former speaker."
What the former speaker is asking of Romney "goes well beyond what's required" of the former Governor or has ever been requested of any other candidate. He has already said he will release it, in April, exactly as past nominees have done.
What is being demanded of Romney is quite different than what has ever been demanded before. This is part of a larger pattern by Gingrich. He has one standard for himself and an entirely different standard for everyone else, especially those who oppose him.
Gingrich argues we don't want a damaged nominee later. It is FAR MORE LIKELY that the full ethics report, information Pelosi has passed on to the Obama machine, will damage Gingrich than Romney's tax returns will damage Romney.
What we really have here, is a case of the pot calling the kettle black, between these two. I wouldn't be surprised, if Romney found loopholes, to avoid paying certain taxes (quite a number do, and quite a few companies do as well). On the other hand, we've had the circus that was Gingrich, as well as the circus which was Gingrich's impeachment hearings on Clinton for having an affair, when oh wait Gingrich was having one too.
Meh, it's all like a big mud wrestling match, where the contenders aren't even necessarily clean, but it's whoever can make the other guy look worse.... I guess they're lucky that Trump isn't in the mix though... After the whole birther debate with Obama's birth certificate; imagine what Trump could do, and dig up on both Romney and Gingrich combined, and keep it in the headlines as long as he was able to keep the birther debate going....
What I find very funny, and i predicted this a few years ago, is that the Repubs are fighting amongst themselves just like a band of thieves will once they have the gold they banded together to get.
And, has anyone else noticed that with the Repubs/TPers, that when asked point blank questions about something that is already public knowledge, or when presented with statements of FACT complete with backing info, that the Repubs/TPers get irate and scream and shout their lies louder and louder the closer to the truth the questions or statements are?? Not only the so-called 'candidates' but their supporters as well have become so very divorced from the reality that the rest of us are living in and they keep expounding upon their "Ideal World Of Yesteryear" that never EVER existed except in their own, very sheltered imaginations.
What is being demanded of Romney is quite different than what has ever been demanded before.
Get Over Yourself!, I know you said the same thing when Repubs were demanding a birht certificate.
And if you do a little research, although it is not mandatory that the candidates release tax returns, it has been tradition and has been brought up by many candidates during the primaries in past years, on both sides.
Why is it ok with you that everyone else can be under attack, but not Romney. This is normal for all primaries.
B.Honest, what I find funny is that they and their supporters can attack the others relentlessly, but as soon as they are attacked with something they can't defend, they cry foul. Newt especially. Whenever things get tough he says the others aren't playing fair, like his blunder of not getting on the Virginia ballot. It's everyone else's fault, never his own.
It was very interesting to see how many people gave Ginrich an outstanding ovation for being "appalled" that the mediator asked him about his ex-wife. However, he would have done exactly the same to anybody else if the roles were reversed.
The only thing that Gingrich can do well is being hateful and venomous. That is why he is gaining ground with those sanctimonious hypocrites in South Carolina. They all are the same.
Not appalled at the question in itself, but appalled that it was the first question in a presidential debate. Gingrich was right on target in putting the media in its place. There is nothing hypocritical supporting someone who has erred, apologized and sought redemption (forgiveness). That is Christian. Family values are important but humans err and lose to temptations. Your judgement (opinion) of a group of people is a load of sanctimonious crap and an insult to hard working Americans.
@ Ben:
Well...I am sorry that you feel that way, but I do not think that it was inappropriate. The GOP is constantly bringing up the social issues. They spend a great deal of time discussing abortion, gay rights, etc. Why would you think that a question that has to do with something that Republicans consider so important -marriage between a man and a woman-would be inappropriate?
Especially when it has to do with the fact that would "annoy"the speaker. He was just annoyed that he was the target of public opinion. Apologizing for President Clinton was not enough for any Republican. Besides, I am not sure why it would offend "hard working Americans" I am a hard working American, and Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrinch CONSTANTLY offend me with their ideas about health care, taxes and people's rights. The way that they want to keep treating Americans, taking us into another WAR...that is insulting; not only to us, but for many people that have already lost family and friends in that UNPROVOKED war in Iraq.
Learn to sort your priorities.
The statements that rate cheers at these Republican debates makes me think I have wandered into an alternate universe. Who are these folks and where do they find them?
Sniper
"Newt Gingrich's standing ovations ( 2 just this week!) and his rise in all the polls are direct examples of the backlash building against the main stream media's dismal reporting.
This shows that voters do not believe Media spin anymore. They have been burned once when media pushed Obama off on them and not buying Media spin anymore."
I don't think you can extrapolate that all voters feel the same as a small, select group of ultra-conservatives who were at the debates.
Hey ben,
Believe in the sacred tea-gop party Republican double standard much? Looks like you are saying that it is NOT appalling to ask a sitting Democratic President about HIS private sex life on national television, but it is very appalling to allude to the topic with a Republican candidate wannabe with a questionable history.
Hypocrit!
Text book example of reflection:
Ben - you're actually going there???? Erred, apologized and sought redemption? Which time? And, for how long? Newt is a dog (sorry to all the cute little dogs out there) and will always be one. He lies and cheats on a regular basis. His apology will go only until he decides he is attracted to someone other than his wife again - although what any woman finds in that tub of lard I'll never know. He is sanctimonious and laughing at all religion as he uses it to further his own agenda. No one with a brain believes this piece of trash!
Oh, and the insult to hard working Americans would be Mitt and Newt!
...Romney wants Gingrich to turn over a million pages of material...
Who really cares? If there are "a million pages of material" then why the hell do we need details? Look at the newspaper articles from that time (I don't have to, I lived through it). He was up on 84 counts of ethics violations; he basically "pleaded down", agreeing to plead guilty to one count and pay $300,000 to have the rest of the charges dropped; then he resigned from the office of Speaker of the House and resigned from the House itself 3 days after being re-elected for an 11th term! Do these sound like the actions of an innocent man?
And yet the Republican party, in an act of desperation, is willing to take this black sheep back into the fold.
Old Vet, BRAVO. The only thing you failed to mention is that they've turned it into a Greasy Three-Ring Circle; you know, the type you only see when all the dirty water has run out of the tub.
I'm a quasi-old (you know the type that will never admit advanced age) Vet, myself. An old school independent before it became a dirty word. I too approve of Obama's approach to leadership; no sudden and unexamined moves and seeking a balance between the two sides of a coin.
That is becoming a difficult thing to accomplish with both sides of that coin adding on so much more weight to their side that the fulcrum for the balance is now a point that even a single angel would have trouble standing on were it a pin-head.
Let's just pray that this "Great Recession" doesn't lead to the type of conflict that the "Great Depression" did in order to balance itself out; if so, I fear that the only one wealthy enough to bail the world out may be China, and at what cost?
Forget the four bozos and vote for Herman Cain tomorrow....... (Stephen Colbert's brother from another mother).
I love the smell of GOPers trying to eat each other alive.
Keep it going guys, Obama's team is taking notes.
Smells like bacon, if you ask me!
But I didn't hear anyone ask ,"Hey b!tch....what do you think it smells like?"
Smells like desperation to me. However, I'll take some scrambled eggs with that bacon.
Defend America - Vote out the TeaParty Republicants.
Eric,
And who asked you? Why don't you just crawl back into that hole you emerged from. You sound like a woman-hating 16-year-old.
Get your facts right. Newt Gingrich was not kicked out of office for Ethics Violations. He was cleared of all charges and was reelected for another term.
This the way Presidential Debates are suppossed to go. At least Republicans have a primary. Dumorats only have Oscama at Disney World.
Actually, Obama should be at Disney World, after all Micky Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, etc voted for Obama in the last Presidential election over a 100 times each. Obscama should be thanking his constituents.
Gee, jimmyfox,
Thanks for that eloquent comment. All of us here are awed by your intellect.
Say, you didn't happen to emerge from the same hole as Eric, did you?
and he RESIGNED the next day... Yeah, that's the man who should be elected President..... You must not know very much about the political process do you.... There are no caucuses or primaries for the democrats this year, because Obama already has the nomination... I will say, GingRICH is very good in the debates.. he continues to show us why he should not get the nomination.
I think you are the one who must have spent to much time on the dumbo ride at Disney World.
I'd rather smell the bacon rather than all the BS Obama puts out!!!
Nov. 5, 1998 Newt resigned the House, the day after he was re-elected.
QUITTER QUITTER
Jimmy--You've got the facts wrong. He wasn't "cleared of all charges." He was convicted, reprimanded, and fined by a vote of 395 to 28. You seem to have a reading comprehension problem. Is that common among Newt's supporters?
Who could use a good hummer! ;o)
I'll donate a dollar towards Eric's 'hummer fund'...
Are you teatards actually stupid enough to nominate Newt?? If so – being an Obama supporter – I love it. You’re doing the left a huge favor. Bill Clinton kicked Newt’s sorry ass all over Washington 16 years ago and Obama will make Clinton look like Mr. Kindness. So go for it teatards --- please, please, please nominate Newt.
Fiesty,
I don't think he's old enough or mature enough to know what a hummer is.
Yes, please do. There's a huge difference between the audience of the Republican primaries and the Big Stage of the presidential race. It'll be over in a nanosecond for Newt.
In the words of Jack from Portsmouuth "Gee Charlie thanks for that eloquent comment. All of us here are awed by your intellect! Oh wait, I forgot to start it with ahhh daaaa
*bats eyelashes*
Why, isn't it a gas guzzling SVU?
I mean THAT was what I was talking about! ;o)
PS: Good to see you tonight - trust the wife & kids are doing well...
Look old vet and the rest of you ignorant dumorats.
The investigation was initiated by a complaint filed in September of 1994 by Gingrich's opponent for re-election that alleged a course Gingrich had tought at Kennesaw State College essentially served political purposes despite the class having been advertised as a not-for-profit activity; one that served a primarily educational function.
The investigation was eventually expanded to probe what role GOPAC, the political action committee founded to help train GOP candidates for office, played in support of that college course
So, you Idiots really think that Newt Gingrich was fined $300,000 for giving a College Course??
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Newt was railroaded for being a minority party, a Republican, and trying to just end the attack on him. He should have fought the other charges and the reason he was being Railroaded, but Speaker of the House, Newt Gingrich was busy trying to Balance the Budget, Make the USA a better place to live, while Bill Clinton was in the oval office shoving cigars up a little girl's vagina, a letting islamic Jihadist flock into the uSA to take flying lessons.
Fiesty,
Oh, that's too funny! I thought you were being your usual raunchy self! Shows where my mind is this evening. . . .
They're fine. It's Tet, and we're having friends over tomorrow. Thuong took the day off and cooked all day. Just as I was finally taking off those Thanksgiving/Christmas pounds. . .
jimmyfox,
So, Oh Brilliant One, why did all those Republicans vote against him then? The vote was 395 to 28, wasn't it?
Who me? lol
I plead the 5th my friend! ;o)
Here's is a public service announcement - why don't YOU crawl back up your hole and STFU?
Feisty,
I don't think anybody ask you ??
Jeez., Fiesty. You've got a real following here tonight. Even little Dano's kicking in with a comment.
Hey, little feller, go wipe your nose. There's snot all over it.
Like moths to the proverbial flame, Jack!
They just cannot resist the power of the Feisty Redhead!
So many fans and so little time... what a conundrum?
As far as dano goes - they would be best served gargling with some Drano!
That hurts my feelings...LOL
Well, we're glad you've got some, dano. Feelings, that is.
What I'm wondering is, if Newt were so lucky to get the Republican nomination, what kind of conspiracy would the Right come up to explain his defeat with when he gets the whupping of his life next November.
Jimmy, jimmy, jimmy...good grief...we have this thing called the internet. If you can't remember the Newt years, the ethics vote (here's a hint...this wasn't Pelosi's fault) just google the darned thing. The man was ousted from his leadership position by the FULL house of reps, who blamed him and his government shutdown and his ethics violations for causing a rout in the 98 elections. Good grief man...READ. He wasn't the victim of anything...This was a MAJORITY OF HIS OWN PARTY that wanted him gone.
Jimmy doesn't let facts get in the way of his beliefs. Sort of like the Right's take on Global Warming. They walk outside, look up at the sky and say, "Hell, looks like it did yesterday. And the day a'fore. What's all this gol'darn nonsense about, anyhew?"
If it smells like bacon Feisty, you should probably go wipe. You probably have a cling-on....
LOL...thats funny Laura !!!
jimmyfox--Read the article very carefully and very slowly--or get your mommy to read it to you. The Republicans took charge of the House in 1994 (that's a verifiable fact). The Republicans were in charge when Newt was convicted by a vote of 395-26 (this is another verifiable fact). I know this is difficult for you to comprehend, but the Speaker of the House is elected by the majority party (a third verifiable fact). Newt was then Speaker (even you knew this). Gawd, but you are stupid.
jimmiefox Dude please you're killing us with your lack of facts. 9/11 clinton's fault? jesus christ man
delusional
Don't bother trying to explain it Old Vet, I dont know how yet, but obviously this too was Obama's doing.
I'd rathersmell the bacon rather than all the BS Obama puts out!!!
You may get your wish if Gingrich does not win tomorrow. "Hell hath no fury like Gingrich scorned!"
@Laura - I hate to be the one to break it to you baby... but... Star Trek was 'make believe'!
Although, I always wanted a 'tribble' when I was a kid...
Newt Gingrich was not kicked out of office for Ethics Violations. He was cleared of all charges and was reelected for another term.
No, no he wasn't...
He was up on 84 counts of ethics violations; he basically "pleaded down", agreeing to plead guilty to one count and pay $300,000 to have the rest of the charges dropped; later, under pressure from his own party, he resigned from the office of Speaker of the House and resigned from the House itself 3 days after being re-elected for an 11th term! Do these sound like the actions of an innocent man?
Wow - how did a Republican get to be Speaker of the House when his party wasn't in the majority. Because, surely all those 395 voting to punish were Democrats...right? Yeah, right! That's called a blatant lie, but these guys just keep getting away with it. Maybe floats for the truth on FOX, but it stinks around here.
The answer to that one would be mighty interesting I'd bet!
Yeah, the Speaker of the House is always a member of the majority party. Fact is, the vote was bipartisan; neither Republicans nor Democrats could stand the stench of the man.
Hey -- everyone knows Newt is a scumbag. He's a liar, a hypocrite, a flip-floper and an all around dirt bag. Remember -- his own people kicked his sorry, corrupt ass out of the House. And what's funny is -- these teatards are just stupid enough to nominate him.
You are the stupid one, you don't even have one tenth of his brains. He's not the first one
to fight against his own party. Sarah Palin fought against the corrupt Republicans also. He will
get this Country back on the right tract, with some decent Dems and Reps
Newt, here's some advice from Leroy 'Satchel' Paige...
"If you’re gonna tell a lie, always rehearse it. If it don't sound good to you, it
won't sound good to anybody."
Yep the teatards don't represent the Republican party they represent the party of Stupid to pick candidates like Newt.
Yes I suppose you can find a few Democrats that are perfectly willing to completely screw over the middle-class, but not enough to support Newt's agenda.
Newt, here's some advice from Leroy 'Satchel' Paige...
"If you’re gonna tell a lie, always rehearse it. If it don't sound good to you, it
won't sound good to anybody."
Sarah Palin fought against the corrupt Republicans also
Yep -- and Palin is no longer in politics. She's bucking for a reality show. And -- the most corrupt Republican of them all is Newt.
Newts on a roll. You can tell, the Democrats are screaming insults. (means they're scared sh*tless)
Laura: oh that's tooooo funny!! You actually think Dems wouldn't LOVE to have Newt???? Sorry poor baby, you're stuck and we're stuck with the stiff rich guy from Massachusetts (you know, the republican John Kerry.)
Until this election cycle I thought all Republicans were pure of heart and it was the Democrats that were sinful, at least that's what the right-wing leaning side of the press was trying to sell us. Guess they were wrong. In my book anyone who cheats on their spouse is a liar and can never be trusted. Until the republican party stops dishing up these punks I will not be voting for any of their candidates. If I don't like a particular Democrat I will vote third party instead.
America has one last chance, and it is a very slim one. Americans can elect Ron Paul President, or they can descend into tyranny.
Why is Ron Paul America’s last chance?
Because he is the only candidate who is not owned lock, stock, and barrel by the military-security complex, Wall Street, and the Israel Lobby.
All of the others, including President Obama, are owned by exactly the same interest groups. There are no differences between them. Every candidate except Ron Paul stands for war and a police state, and all have demonstrated their complete and total subservience to Israel. The fact that there is no difference between them is made perfectly clear by the absence of substantive issues in the campaigns of the Republican candidates.
If Ron Paul were different from the rest, why does he run for the republiCON nomination and not for the libertarian party?
"Paulists" are as dedicated and earnest as Linus VanPelt in the pumpkin patch on Halloween night...
God bless them, they actually believe in something. Whether or not you agree with them, if the "mainstream" candidates in the Republican primary could engender a similar fervor in their supporters, the nominee world coast to the Oval Office...
Dangerfield--You're absolutely right. And they're just as logical and fact-based as Linus in that patch. As a sainted southern grandmother used to say, "Bless their hearts."
Old Vet probably doesn't even know Ron Paul's plan... he lost his glasses just like he'll lose his VA health care without Ron Paul.
Jooby--I do know Paul's plan. It is based on flawed economic theory.
Alanny - while I agree with you that both Dems & Repubs are beholding to the PAC's and make decisions that affect the entire country based on the debt load - I have a greater faith in my country. And perhaps Ron Paul doesn't run as an independent because he knows that this country, for better or worse is not ready to try something different - it's the 'the better the devil you know' syndrome. Shame really, because he's clear, concise and I think has a plan that might just work.
Kate: something different with Ron Paul alright...isolationism, legal drugs, legal prostitution, illegal abortion, the end of every federal regulation over clean air, clean water, child labor laws...the end of every financial regulation that has kept us from the debacle in Europe...the man has never been able to pass one single idea in his entire legislative career (thankfully) because his fellow colleagues consider him, very rightly, a loon. (we won't even get into the racist, anti-semitic stuff because I'm sure you'll also argue he's simply 'misunderstood') Clear and concise plan alright: complete chaos at home and removal from the world stage under the pretense the old man is arguing for anything except nihilism. Think I'll take the evil PAC's thank you, over that extremist inanity.
Am I mistaken? Hasn't Ron Paul been running on the libertarian ticket for the last few Presidential elections already? I don't blame him for switching to the Repub ticket because a third party has no chance.
That being said, although I admire the way he sticks to his principles and I agree with a lot of his ideas, I do think he takes it too far. Like it or not, we do need regulations. I for one don't want to worry about where my food is coming from (they wouldn't be required to tell us honestly) or what's in it. I don't want to worry about what the company down the street is putting in the water and soil. I don't want another financial collapse because the financial sector has no oversight. I don't want to worry about whether or not the truck driving in back of me will stop when I do or if the driver is asleep because of no oversight.
Personal freedom is a nice concept, but it isn't reality. Unfortunately, what we do affects others.
Smokers affect the air I breathe. The uninsured costs me money (health or motorist, whatever). The neighbor that let's his place get rundown costs me money in the value of my home. Not limiting the time truckers can be on the road can cost me my life.
Kate at #7.6 - - I'm thinking maybe you're young and need to look up the history of other 3rd party candidates from the past - - George Wallace in '68, John B. Anderson in '80, Ross Perot, Nader, etc. It is NOT something new or unusual for the USA. And maybe you could do a little more research on Paul, also, to see what he really is proposing beyond the 5 or 6 points so many think are great.
The fact is that the only Republican that democrats fear is Mitt Romney. They know that he can beat obama while none of the others cant. Thats why they only laugh at Gingrich's legitimate faults and they make, pointed, nasty comments based on heresay about "willard". have any of you heard gingrich refered to as Newton Leroy by a liberal. No? Well you havent because they dont worry about him.
slight right- Yeah us Dems are shaking in our boots, about mittens! Do you remember Kerry and flip-flopping, he was a novice compared to Mittens! Romneycare... LMAO
I just want to keep watching Mitt pretend he's just plain folk. C'mon, Mitt, own your white bread self. We know you're incredibly rich. We know the only American street you've walked has been in a gated community. It's OK to be rich; it's not OK to be a phoney.
Your wrong Slant Right, Romney is the Republican they want because they beleive that Obammy can beat him. It's Newt their afraid of. They know Newt is 10 times smarter than Obammy.
Newt smarter than Obama? That must be a joke right? Yeah, let's elect a man who was convicted of ethics violations and then resigned the next day after winning re-election. That's the man I want to be President of the United States. However, go ahead and give him the nomination, it would be a landslide victory for Obama.
Romney can't win without Ron Paul's supporters...
The fact is that the only Republican that democrats fear is Mitt Romney.
That's probably true but the don't fear him much. He's the only Republican with any chance of winning. Remember back to 1996 -- the official Republican nominee was Bob dome but Clinton turned Dole into Gingrich and ran against him. Remember who won??
Gingrich is the despicable one. An open marriage? That surely doesn't fit the Repubican definition of marriage. 1 man, 2 women? I guess we could get that with either Newt or Mitt, though. Wait, maybe I will vote Republican.
Truth is, although I think Romney would be a more formidable foe, it pretty much comes down to the economy. If it improves at a decent pace, it will be Obama. If not, it will likely be the contender.
If Obama wins, we will continue to have a slow recovery. If a repub wins, I predict we will have a good deal of improvement. However, we will once again have to pay for it a few years down the line. Happened with Reagan and Bush Sr paid. Happened again with Bush Jr and Obama paid. It's like taking your rundown house and slapping some paint on it. It sure looks good, but it's still rotten underneath.
I'll take slow, steady improvement.
"Capitalism and freedom is not, of course, the issue. The rapacious style of capitalism that has dominated the marketplace over the past 30 years is the issue. Bain was one of the more responsible practitioners, but what about the overall affect of a business plan that (a)skyrocketed executive compensation and (b)traded equity for ballooning debt and (c)emphasized short-term results over long-term development? Was that good for the country? That’s the question I hope Obama will ask when the time comes.
In fact, after a full immersion in these Republican candidates, I’m really looking forward to a strong dose of Obama when he delivers the State of the Union message on Tuesday. It will interesting to see how fresh, how compelling and convincing his message is."

If this was partisan, as Gingrich tries to portray it, then why didn't the republICON majority in that committee block the investigation?
Check Wikipedia:
Gingrich was sanctioned $300,000 by a 395–28 House vote.
Republicans were in power, but this was a bipartisan vote. Neither party could stand the stench of the man.
i dont get it...the republican party is suppose to be the party of "family values" yet this creep gringrich is still popular??? sorry but ill take mitt & his questionable tax return data anyday. at least he is not a cheater & liar to his ONE wife!
The values of the Republican Party or bigotry, ignorance, paranoia, greed, and hypocrisy.
You are right...he certainly does not have the morality of your favorite...slick Willy. Yoiu lefties are so terrified of this man , you will look for any way (along with the lamestream media) to discredit him. You know if Gingrich debates the shallow one with teleprompter (Newt doesn't need one), Obama will be shown as the inept fool he is. I guess this makes me racist unlike the 99% o0f blacks that voted for the Commie cause he was black. He is an insult to Clarence Thomas, Condoleeza Rice, Herman Cain, JC Watts, West , etc.
Terrified? is that all you "Connies" understand, fear? First we were supposedly terrified of Palin, then Christie, then Caine, then Bachmann, then Perry, then Santorum, then Gingrich, then, in the end, Romney. We're not afraid of them, we're APPALLED that you would think any of them stand any legitimate chance of unseating Obama, or that they would do the country good if they somehow pulled off a "miracle" electoral college victory. Or will you be okay with a SCOTUS appointment of your guy, again?
Why don't you vote Ron Paul and turn the country around in less than 4 years?
Buckeye 425 - Yes Buck, your racism is duly noted. I do admire the way you kind of expressed it then deflected it. You guys are getting good. By the way, afraid of Newt? Please nominate him...PLEASE!
You are right...he certainly does not have the morality of your favorite...slick Willy.
Teatards predictable bunch. Whenever a sex story about a Republican cheating on his wife comes out, they always make to the same two points. First they blame the “liberal media” and talk about how the “liberal media’ is out to get conservatives. Then they bring up Bill and Monica like that’s some kind of a justification. Sorry teatards --- Bill Clinton getting a hummer in the white House is NOT a justification for Newt to dump wife # 1 for wife # 2 then dump wife # 2 for wife # 3.
@Buck First of all, we are not terrified of Newt, or Mitt, or any of them really. The MAINstream media doesn't need to discredit him...he, and his opponents, are doing a fantastic job of doing that themselves. They are eating each other alive. It's rather entertaining to watch.
Secondly, can you name a single candidate or incumbent who has EVER used a teleprompter during a debate???? Kind of hard to use a prepared speech during a live question/answer session. The fact that you bought his ridiculous statement that he'd let President Obama use a teleprompter speaks VOLUMES as to your naivety and intelligence. Yes, the President has used them before while giving speeches...as have MANY other Presidents. Is it any different than using note cards? Many have used those as well. Where is your criticism of them? Or is it just THIS President's use that offends you so???
Jooby: you sure your old man will last 4 more years?? (He hasn't had a worthwhile idea since he was born in 1935...but ya never know....)
Frankly, the Dems are NOT scared of ANY of these so-called 'candidates', we are laughing at how stupidly the attack each other, how they seem to think that we do not remember what they said last week, how BALDLY they lie to everyone and the fact that they, as a group, keep trying to pin on Obama exactly the very things that THEY have done and been doing. To call the Dems scared of ANY of these 'candidates' is beyond ludicrous!
bunnyb7: These teleprompter concerned dimwits actually believe that the teleprompter is an interactive device, into which answers to questions can be fed in real time. Really. I am not kidding. They actually do think that it can be used to serve that purpose. Even though if that were the case, the people on stage with employer of the teleprompter could just sabotage the system by reading the answer out loud along with him, or read ahead of him.
To answer your question about debates, it was "W" bush who was rigged up with a receiver and tiny audio speaker under his Suit jacket, so he could listen to Karl Rove give him the "GOP talking Points" during his debate performances.
I knew GWB got caught doing that. Funny how the Republicans seem to have conveniently forgotten it. To all the naysayers complaining about Obama using the teleprompters (even though most presidents use them), I'd like to see YOU use one!!! Not as easy as Obama makes it look.
I knew GWB got caught doing that. Funny how the Republicans seem to have conveniently forgotten it.
Why is that funny? The Republicans seem to have forgotten that W was ever even president. Let alone how much blame should accrue to him for trashing the American economy with his "voodoo economics". I am sure this is something the Republicans would like the American people to forget; but I won't. No, I won't!
Good,,,, I hope they can dig the truth out of both Newt & Mitt, short of waterboarding them ---- As it stands, it looks like they are "what is wrong with government"
Gingich's spin on his leadership in the Reagan administration is grotesque & Romney is what is wrong with Tax Codes & Capital Gains, Off Shore Tax Havens, Private Equity Firms, Golden Parachutes & tax payer bailouts
Nahhhhh. The people do not want government that looks good. They want government that can get something done.
"If this was partisan, as Gingrich tries to portray it, then why didn't the republICON majority in that committee block the investigation?"
Because there were an equal # of Republicans voting to censure him. After the investigation, Bob Livingston told Newt he had enough support to replace him as Speaker. That's when Newtie took his toys back and went home--i e quit the House and went back to private life.
There is absolutely no candidate in any party who is not owned one way or another by the high and mighty in our country. For anyone running for president to put his nose in the air and claim to be above it all is just completely laughable. Probably the biggest hypocrisy we're seeing at this moment is much of the "family values" crowd who slammed Bill Clinton for his moral failings now lining up to support three-times married, cheating husband Newt Gingrinch for president. The whole election season is a ridiculous circus of the absurd.
Not to say Newt wouldn't do it again, but at least he did it before he ever became President, not while he was our acting President
an adultress president is still an adultress president. Doesn't change anything because he did it before he ran for president except the fact that the voters can take the fact that he is a liar and a cheat into account while making their "conservative Christian values" while he is running for political office. Of course the republicans that still talk about Clintons indescretions will not have a problem voting for this guy right? I will pray for all of us, that we can find a person that is honest and intelligent and cares more about our country than making a dollar; like Ron Paul.
This discussion brings to mind the Anthony Weiner situation. He did a terribly stupid and immature thing that in truth didn't hurt anyone but his wife and family but he is, and quickly was, done, finished, over and out. He was slammed hard by his own party but that was nothing in comparison to what was said about him by conservatives both in the news and on the blogs. There were calls for him to be almost literally hung from the rafters (no forgiveness, no grace). And then we come to Newt, and are exposed to some of the most sick-making sanctimonious rationalization we have heard in some time. It isn't a pretty picture.....
Weiner and Clinton both denied the accusations at first. In comparison, though I disagree with the situation, Newt was forthcoming with what was happening and did go on to marry each mistress. They were not hidden away in closet with the hopes of it never seeing the light of day. I doubt very much that either of the former ever intended to make their flings legitimate. They were daliances with no intention of anything further.
so it's ok to cheat as long as eventually you marry each of the ones you cheated with? You can't be serious. He wanted to marry wife #1, then tired of her. He left to marry wife #2, then tired of her (apparently she's only willing to share him when she is the mistress not the wife). Now he is married to wife #3, at least until he no longer needs a stable relationship. Who knows if it will last, and who knows if his commitment to being the President will last. He quit 2 marriages and a job as Speaker when they got to tough for him.
There are other arguments to be made but I also see that in most cases, politicians from the Democratic party who run into troubles of a sexual nature are much more likely to be ousted by the party and never come back. Weiner, Spitzer and Edwards come to mind. Of course, that doesn't apply to Bill but, Monica didn't foster much sympathy nor did many people view her as a victim and Hillary refused to be seen as a victim so that case was an exception.
I'm with Sarah Palin. I think we need this to continue.
Yes, the independents are beginning to run to the hills according to the polls...this keeps up and it'll make the McCain/Palin tally look like a landslide.
To me it is frightening that this man who was fined for ethics while speaker of the house and ethically let his wives down -- how could the evangelicals support this man. It says a lot about the evangelicals.
Yeah, it does. They apparently believe he's been forgiven, and forgiven, and forgiven . . .
Because REAL Christians love a repentant sinner, and God holds them to a higher value.
The parable of the lost sheep was told by Jesus when the Pharisees criticized Him for socializing with sinners. Through this story of compassion, Jesus revealed his rescue mission for sinners.
Jesus told the overly judgmental this parable:
'Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Does he not leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the one lost sheep until he finds it? And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders and goes home."
Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, "Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep." I tell you that in the same way there will be MORE rejoicing in heaven over ONE sinner who repents THAN OVER ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent'" (Luke 15:3-7)
In my experience, evil tends to hide behind bible thumping. The very worst people I have ever known have been the most religious. It's almost as if they think that quoting the bible will make up for their own misdeeds.
As for being a repentent sinner - you have to believe that the repenting is for real and not for the sake of convenience. In the case of Newt, his ulterior motives betray his real intent. He will say anything to win the nomination, regardless of whether it is true or not.
GCV; You are a person of no faith.
Obviously his rise in all the polls, even after the dismal "spin" reporting , and his likeliness to win in South Carolina prove you wrong.
The point is, for most Christians, that you have to truly repent and stop sinning. Newt's got the repenting part down pat, he just can't stop sinning. Come to think of it, he picked up on the repenting part late in the game. Early on, when asked about his infidelities, he said we didn't have to worry about that anymore because he was 67 years old (maybe he subsequently found out about Viagra).
The same way that they supported Bill Clinton after he let his wife down.
Funny, nobody by Newt has had bad marriages. NOT ONE. There is nothing more viscious than an X wife. Over half of all married people divorce. Its almost 66% for people married the second time.
But, we have a lot of haters, Dumorats, Communist, Socialist, Left Wing Liberals that would find Fault in Jesus and do without Jesus even running for office.
Barack Hussein Obama is going to release the most viscious attack in USA History on his Rival for President. The drive by News Media's is going to relentlessly LIE, make fun of, and degrade whoever Challenges Obama.
ACORN, LaRaza, CREW, Organizing for Obama, Organizing for American, Center for American Progress, SEIU, the Weather Underground, Black Muslims, CAIR, illegal aliens is going to make sure that VOTER FRAUD is the determing factor if Obama is RE elected.
Jimmy--Obama doesn't have to release a vicious attack on anyone. All he has to do is replay the Republican ads during the primaries and tell the truth.
The only way he (Obama) can win re-election is an over the top smear campaign. He can't prove that anything he has done so far has helped this country!
Wow, Sniper. You know they now have a test for rabies? You don't automatically have to get the shots now. Have you been having trouble swallowing water?
willing.sniper
Great post using Jesus' parable. The only problem with Newt though. Where is the repentence? He hasn't cheated on only one wife; but two. Seems like he repents only long enough to get us Christians to forgive him and then goes back to sinning.
jimmyfox - My goodness Jimmy, you left out the Boy Scouts of America.
The very worst people I have ever known have been the most religious.
No doubt. As my late father used to say --- NEVER trust anybody who wants you to go to church with them or anyone who quotes the Bible more than one time per week.
Christian means Christ-Like. People who brag of being a Christian are not normally. Someone who you admire so much that you ask what their secret is and they say Jesus Christ are Christians. A true Christian would forgive Newt Gingrich over and over and over, etc. but would be intelligent enough to not vote for him. The sad thing is the best people we have would never run for political office in the Republican or Democratic Party and probably never could.
An overlooked point is this...
Gingrich cheated on his first and second wife.
But he has permission from his third wife. Gingrich now has what he wanted... an open marrage.
Jimmyfox- Yeah we can't wait to get in there, but wait they are tearing each other apart, and self imploding. Fraid the carcass, won't have any real meat left on the bones, so thanks for having, the worse candidates in history, slim pickens I know. And sense the rest of the country, doesn't have the same memory problems as you all seem to. Walk in the park! Obama/Biden 2012
If Newt were truly repentent, he would be standing by his ex-wife and allowing her to get her frustrations out. I have never heard him say he was truly sorry for what he's done and then leave it at that. He always follows with why he should be forgiven. It isn't up to him to decide he should be forgiven, it is up to the forgivers.
If Newt is truly sorry, then I'm quite certain Jesus forgives him and welcomes him. He just can't expect to just go on with no consequences here.
Well, let's see, the disgruntled "axe to grind wife" didn't work....what else we got?? Oh yeah, let's dig up some "water under the bridge" dirt about that congressional stint. We gotta give the liberal twit media something to tear down Newt while we build up Barack......Obama was signing yesterday at the podium. How cute.....pretty good singer, too bad he sucks as a President and a leader.
Gingich's spin on his leadership in the Reagan administration is grotesque dude,,, The man has no honor
I'll bet I met Ronald Reagan more times than he did & Mom knew both Ronald & Nancy Reagan before I was introduced to him
Hey bucsdad, read the article? Unless Santorum and Romney somehow became part of your liberal media conspiracy, your comments are simply falsifications. They are the ones bringing it up. Water under the bridge? Nice spin. An ethically and morally challenged self-aggrandizing liar engages in behavior that causes him to be run out of town and when he's running for President, it's under the bridge? LOL.
What are the odds that if a Republican is elected that all we will hear for the next 4 years is It is Obamas fault? Especially from the current Republican "water under the bridge" 0r "lets look forward" crowd.
I'll 2nd that bucsdad
Amen Jabber...I was just telling my husband that today. President Obama was NEVER allowed to blame the last President's failures, but the next Republican President, and every Republican voter across the country, will be allowed to blame Obama as much as they want. It's hypocrisy at it's fines...or worst.
gee bucs: you actually believe Gingrich DIDN'T cheat on wife number two? Where'd you get that, Calista? I admire your pristine belief in the goodness of people (except ex wives apparantly), but you really need to grow up a bit. Barrack Obama didn't make Newt Gingrich ask his ex for permission to sleep around...no matter what you've heard.
Newt lies are unconvincing to all but the most blind partisan. He states the committee was partisan when the committee had an equal number of Democrats and Republicans and voted 7-1 to recommend reprimand. The whole proceeding was so partisan that the Republican-controlled House voted 395 to 26 to reprimand and fine him. I guess he assumes that the American people are really, really stupid.
Romney wil get dusted by Obama!!! Sorry, this man is to unseemly and has already telegraphed that he wants to go in change all the government laws, tax rules, and codes and make himself and his corporate buddies much richer and HOPE that while they're getting richer let money and jobs trickle down to the middle class and working poor. And I bet you 10,000 dollars after that he'll gladly leave after 4 years in office because he would have been to make himself a multi billionaire instead of millionaire.
Please win the nomination Newt PLEASE WIN IT !!!
Lol what a massacre that would be.
Yawn
his favorite presidents are all democrats and nancy pelosi is a backer! what more do you need to know about this guy! HE IS 'WHITE OBAMA'!! wake up tea party or have you been bought by 'soros' too!
No, Charles and David Koch!
I so badly want Gingrich to be the Republican nominee. And if not him, then Santorum. Either way, it will be loads of fun on election night watching them and the rest of the ignorant, greedy, and paranoid bigots that make up the Republican Party get defeated soundly.
Hey GVC it will be loads of fun watching Obama get creamed in the election. This will be a landslide for the GOP no matter who their candidate is. If you think that this hope and change B.S. will continue for 4 more years your dumber than you look!
@Tom: LOL, I seriously don't think that most Americans are the greedy, paranoid, and ignorant bigots that the GOP is depending on them being.
Tom: you keep waiting for that Republican 'no hope and no change' motto to catch on...it's a surefire campaign winner!! (that McCain fiasco was probably just a small miscalculation on your march toward history!!...surely THIS time the grumpty old white guy party is gonna take the country by storm!!)
It will get uglier before it is decided. I don't think Newt can beat Obama. I do think Romney-Christie ticket is a better possibility. Who would honestly want to be president when we are in such a mess so you have to wonder about anyone that puts themselves out there as a candidate.
Has anybody been enjoying these Republican primaries as I have? There's nothing like watching a bunch of blowhards beat each other up! Go Obama!
I've watched them , but only with the help of Prilosec,,even them my stomach is not quite right.
Newt's personal life is not relevent to the Presidential Debate nor is it relevent to being President. Look at the disgusting human beings Obama is associated with while in college, all hard line Communists. By the way. Why won't Barack Hussein Obama release his College Transcripts??? Is it because he made all D's. Is it because he was too much of a Communist Radical and only took courses given by Communist Professors???
Maybe Oscama won't release his College Transcripts because they are in the name of Barry Soetoro? Or that he received his Scholarships from Communist Organizations, or Obama was accepted as a FOREIGN BORN STUDENT.
Why doesn't Obama's SSN pass E-Verify??
It's not??
How many American women are concerned with his lack of integrity on Strength of Marriage & his "Vows"?
Newt is the dude who crucified Clinton for far less --- You folks like abusing wives & open marriages? Is that an example of sound "Family Values"?
I don't think so.... Newt hasn't even showed the morals to run as a candidate for our highest office
Jimmy--Your lies are not relevant either, except regarding your credibility--which has long since vanished.
What did I lie about?
It's you & your own who are ignoring Gingrich's moral problems
Newt's personal life is not relevent to the Presidential Debate nor is it relevent to being President.
Hmmm...these topics were certainly relevant to being president when Gingrich was attempting to remove Clinton from office.
Jim377206--I meant jimmyfox, not you. Sorry.
Jimmy, Jimmy, Jimmy...your mother called and asked me to remind you to take your medication. Holy tin-foil batman!
Jimmyfox: You want to deflect everyone from the horrendous record of ethical and moral failures by your laughable candidate for the Republican party nomination by trying to question the GPA of the Harvard educated President?? Gee, what've you got there from Rush...an incomplete on an essay assignment?? Do you even realize how completely ridiculous you sound ? You need a little confab with your wingnuts to come up with a better line of attack than that one.....
Jimmy, I guess you must have gone to school with the Pres. to have such detailed information about his associates and his grades. BTW what were your grades in high school or did you graduate? Yes, I'm pretty sure you get selected by merit as editor of the Harvard Law Review with "D" grades and communist only associates. Since Mitt also graduated from Harvard, perhaps he has been contaminatede as well. You really need to get back on your medication Jimmy
JimmyFaux You are one sick puppy, his name is and always was Barack Obama, you don't get on the Harvard Law review as editor with b grades, let alone d's he was born in the state of hawaii and is a christian, that last is something you proved yourself not to be with your unchristian childish tirade.
Romney is the "Poster Boy" of what is wrong with Tax Codes & Capital Gains, Private Equity Firms, Golden Parachutes, Federal Bailouts, Off Shore Tax Shelters & the Shift of High Risk onto the Middle Class & Off Shore Tax Havens
Gingrich is the "Poster Boy" of what is wrong with Government
Santorum is the "Poster Boy" of what is wrong with religon in government
Neither of the 3 can get reelected to their former office
Ron Paul & his "GOLDEN RULE" foreign policy & Smaller Government theories is simply just silly
He who pays the most "GOLD" gets to "RULE" & his Smaller Government would be powerless to stop it
Newt Gingrich the divisive hypocrite
Rick Santorum the zealot bigot
Ron Paul the eccentric kook
Mitt Romney the elitist pig
Take your choice!
Jim,
You make a good point but...
"He who pays the most "GOLD" gets to "RULE" & his Smaller Government would be powerless to stop it"
A small gvt may not be able to stop it but could at least try, a big gvt attracts it, wallows in it, and is much more dangerous once bought. I say make the big money buy our gvt precinct by precinct, they won't get far in my blue collar 'hood.
At least Ron isn't owned by big business.
you must copy and past the same statements on every post. that's only because you know nothing else!
you lost the battle on the other post so you would try this one. the people that have any knowledge on this page will know that you have no clue what goes on in the real world. that was tested on the previous page.
I thought Newt was running for president..Not marriage Counselor
Do you actually believe a Republican President would try to stop big money? Really? Oh, you're thinking of the Republican Party under Teddy Roosevelt, not current "living" Republicans.
donwrightstown, what's the difference? He'd make a pretty crappy one in EITHER case.
Teddy Roosevelt was the "Bull Moose Party".
I voted for him. It was a wasted vote.
Mitzy - Teddy Roosevelt was elected vice president (1901) and then president (1901-1908) under the Republican party banner. It wasn't until after Taft's first term in office Roosevelt decided to take on an incumbant president of his republican party. The progressives who backed Teddy split the Republican party and Teddy became the nominee of the Bull Moose party in 1912. Wilson won that election due to the rift in the Republican party.
If Newt wins SC than you've got to wonder what is going on with the Republican party.
GBH? DO we really need to wait until after the SC primaries to wonder what is going on with the Republicans? I am old enough to remember the GOP when it was Grand and I have been wondering about them for a while now.
GBH and Ray-402.....
I, also, have been wondering what's happening to the GOP. The one major thing I see is that during the GOP primaries the candidates have been tearing each other apart. As a consequence of that they have given the Democrates more than enough powder to load their guns and with the obvious bias of the news media in favor of the democratic party it's going to make for an uphill battle for any GOP candidate.
I've always tried to vote for whom I believed to be the best GOP candidate, but with all that's happening with them I am considering voting for the one that has the best chance of beating obama. That, in my book, is the most important issue because we can't take another 4 yrs. of his lies and his marxist agenda. The problem with this philosopy is that if the GOP candidate becomes president but does not come up to the job and does poorly we will then, in 4 yrs. probably face the chance of having another liberal Democrate voted back in office.....so it becomes a damned if you do and damned if you don't problem.
OnAmericasside You will never find a candidate that fits all of your requirements. The next best thing is to vote for the one that can address as many of your criteria as possible. Generally I look at the candidate and not the party. This one is still up in the air for me but as much as I think Obama has made some mistakes I have to say that none of the republican candidates excite me enough to vote for one. If Mitt makes some headway I might lean in this direction. He wasn't a bad govenor and did accomplish some things in MA that the people agreed would be good for the citizens here. Ron Paul has some good ideas but I don't think they will be accepted by mainstream America. If elected I don't think he would be an effective President (due the buracrats and inertia in Washington he could end up like Jimmy Carter) . Unfortunately or fortunately, depending on who you are backing, Newt is not electable in my very humble opinion. Maybe he can win in the south but he is going to have a hard time winning the hearts of progressives or independents who he will need to take him to the White House.
