Romney struggles with conservative SC voters

In the Iowa caucuses, Mitt Romney struggled among very conservative GOP voters, Tea Party supporters, and evangelicals. And he ended up losing that race (though we didn't find out until this week).

A week later, however, Romney overperformed with these three groups in New Hampshire, and he won that contest easily.

And in South Carolina tonight? According to the exit polls, it looks more like Iowa than New Hampshire.

Among voters who consider themselves to be "very conservative" -- who make up 36% of tonight's primary electorate -- Newt Gingrich leads Romney, 45%-20%.

Among voters who are Tea Party supporters, Gingrich has a 17-point edge over Romney, 43%-26%.

And among those who describe themselves as evangelical or born-again Christians -- who made up 65% of the GOP primary electorate -- Gingrich is ahead, 42%-22%.

Besides ideology, the exit polls also make it clear that Gingrich benefited -- and Romney struggled -- from the final two debates this week.

Among those who said they made up their minds in the "last few days," Gingrich leads 43%-23%. Yet among those who said they made up their minds earlier than that, Romney leads by two points, Romney leads 35%-32%.

And among those who said the debates were the "single most important factor" or "one of several important factors," Gingrich leads by a wide margin.

Good evening Guys,

I don't mean to offend any one but Newt has just given the President a gift. That was an all white primary in billybob land. Newt can not win the independents and the left the way President Obama can. 2/3 of the people say they voted based on the debate???

Well, that just proves how shallow they are in billybob land. Do they want a debater or a competent president?

Newt has more baggage than the airlines. I agree with Romney the People of the United States need to see what report he wrote for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

One more think Newt needs to learn 46 million Black people are not on food stamps.

Which is a better candidate for President Obama -- Newt Gingrich, who most of America hates, or Mitt Romney, who the Conservative base hates?

Either way America wins when the Republican Party loses.

Just fine, Just fine, Thank you

Learn something Booby trap.

It's not Chicago that is corrupt it that Mitch McTurtle , Boner, the Kantor, and the Tea Potty in DC.

Mitch McTurtle took a page from the from the idiotic "Vdrolak 29" in our City Council.

President Obama like Harold Washington, our first African American mayor, was not a part of the machine. You lived in Virgina and have no Fr***king idea what you are talking about.

Also, President Obama like Harold Washington is experiencing the same thing like Harold Washington, our first African American mayor did with the "Vdrolak 29" in our City Council. In fact, I do believe this the template Senate Minority Leader Mitch McTurtle is following.

Council Wars

Within hours after Mayor Harold Washington had concluded his swearing-in speech in April 1983, one of the most dramatic moments in the city's history segued from thunderous applause and triumphant music at Navy Pier to the bitter realities of City Hall.

“Council Wars,” which exacted havoc throughout most of the first term of Chicago's first African American mayor, pitted Mayor Washington against the “Vrdolyak 29,” sobriquet for the all-white Chicago City Council's majority bloc, led by Alderman Edward “Fast Eddie” Vrdolyak of the Tenth Ward and Edward Burke of the Fourteenth.

Learn something else from the NYT; Booby trap:

House Minority Leader, Senator Mitch Mc Turtle, is bent on slowing it down so "President Obama can be a term President". Have you forgotten?

Never mind having an agenda to help this country. Certainty, you must know that is not boding well over 60% of the electorate. Check the polls. Have no fear President Obama is the one fighting for average people. The RepubliCONS pass out entitlements to big oil, and Wall Street Barons. People who work hard for their money are mad of the CEOS profiting off their backs and will rally behind the one fighting for them; President Obama.

Published: March 16, 2010

Before the health care fight, before the economic stimulus package, before President Obama even took office, Senator Mitch McConnell, the Republican minority leader, had a strategy for his party: use his extensive knowledge of Senate procedure to SLOW things down, take advantage of the difficulties Democrats would have in governing and deny Democrats any Republican support on big legislation

In the process, Mr. McConnell, 68, a Kentuckian more at home plotting tactics in the cloakroom than writing legislation in a committee room or exhorting crowds on the campaign trail, has come to embody a kind of oppositional politics that critics say has left voters cynical about Washington, the Senate all but dysfunctional and the Republican Party without a positive agenda or message.

Newt is running for the presidency? Did you hear him just now? He is a hateful divisive man. As was pointed out over @ DailyKos, here Newt is talking about religious bigotry, yet it was Newt who was against the Muslim Community Center.

This guy is going no where in the general. He is not a well liked man nationally and he's going to blow it big time. Here we had Mitt who was supposed to walk into this nomination unscathed, yet can't seem to connect with people.

Newt connects with people - by being a hateful hateful human being. Just what his supporters want. He doesn't like elitists in DC? LoL. He was the GD Speaker of the House, who btw got thrown out.

Good luck GOP. Someone better tell him to raise the bar - he's not presidential material.

And these women with the blonde hair these days - we need freakin' sunglasses when looking at them. Tone it down!

And people complained about Iowa being first? Good grief, SC GOPers picked the guy who yelled at the media to express faux outrage at John King daring to ask about Newt's less than honorable past. Yelling at the media won't get SC voters jobs and neither will any of Gingich's bluster.

So much attention towards the Tea Party crowd was focused on their racism, as it should have been. But I recall that initially their anger was directed at the GOP Establishment.

I guess they mean business by tonite's outcome. I don't think Newt will carry FLA unless he can successfully highlight Mitt's immigration stance, which is hugely unpopular among the immigration population.

Newt needs to act like a statesman though. These GOP politicians constantly tear people apart. In their own country for heaven sakes.

When are we all going to stop acting like jackasses toward each other?

Knock it off Newt. We are one country, with different backgrounds and different cultures. San Francisco is a beautiful progressive city. A true 21st Century city.

They get it. So don't New Yorkers. These cities support diversity, the work hard, they support the arts, they support their local teams. They have to put up with tourists overwhelming their city 24/7 yet are gracious about it.

That's the America we strive to be. You ain't helpin' Newt. You're acting like the jackass you were as Speaker of the House. Grow up.

Year after year after year after year we heard about your base being angry. Why don't they vote in some different politicians then? The GOP aren't helping them.

Pat, Boston, well said.

Gingrich was and remains the chief leader of the politics of hate and divisiveness. I seriously doubt he will do as well outside the South. I don't think he'll win FL either but the way things have gone in this GOP primary, nothing would surprise me.

I do think the Tea Party started out upset about the deficit but there's some racial undercurrents as well as this sense they have that only conservatives are entitled to govern. If the TP was angry about the debt and deficit, where were they doing the Bush years.

Jody, the media will be happy to give Newt all the publicity he wants simply because you just never know what he's going to say. Little does Newt know that sooner or later it's going to come back and bite him. The GOP primary in SC does not represent the rest of the country's viewpoints.

That's something Newt is going to have to learn the hard way. He'll get cocky and the country isn't going to like it. It's what happened to Romney. Quick.

Now we know for absolute surety that it's Gingrich the liberals fear the most! Well liberals, you can count on Gingrich to go all the way. He will be the one facing off against Obama and Obama is going to lose. All your rambling about how Gingrich is the most hated man in America will not change YOUR problem. Your problem is how to defend the liberal president that is now formulating a campaign filled with lies, deceptions and spin. He did NOT want to run against Newt. The media gave the tell, the liberals gave the tell and for all your posturing, the GOP wasn't listening to you or the media.

It appears the people in South Carolina understand the problem. They recognized that Romney was Obama lite and Santorum didn't have the right stuff. Gingrich bottles his stuff and he distributes it liberally... He holds his stuff in can's of whup ass and he's going to be opening up quite a few cans on Obama.

Today was the first step in the right direction. The GOP finally got it. In order to beat Obama, they need to put up a strong conservative.

Finally liberals, now you can unload all your stuff on Newt. I know it's coming... all the hate speech, all the name calling and the miles and miles of anti-Newt posts... You can forget about Romney, Santorum and Paul... Today is the day Newt becomes the front runner and the others will fall to the wayside.

Bob - I live in a Northwestern suburb of Chicago (quite close to Roselle, actually), and while Bev defends this pitiful state, I can tell you our "crooked, Democrat controlled, Chicago Machine, failed liberal policy land" is in the tank.

Having been awarded THE lowest credit rating in the country, large businesses bolting from the state to flee the tax rates (unless a deal is struck with the Governor's office, of course. Never mind that large businesses get deals, and small businesses have to comply with regulations and taxes.....), 10% unemployment and most of our Governors wind up in jail....

I would certainly be more pleased with Virginia's low unemployment, honest Governor and government, and an educated work force.

Newt does NOT need the media. Obama needs the media. Obama has paid off the media so no matter who would be the republican candidate, the media would never help that person. It's a zero loss gain for Newt. People on the right hate the media for becoming the whores they have. Of course none of this applies to liberals. You love the media because they feed your ideology steak and potatos.

If you haven't noticed, everytime Newt attacks the media, those in front of him stand up and applaud. Conservatives do not have the same feeling towards the media as the liberals do.

phancy, Newt has all the media he needs to carry forward. Remember, Fox is friendly to him as is conservative talk radio. I can list the national coverage he will receive that is pretty much anti-Obama.. Rush, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingram, Michelle Malkin, Savage, Dennis Miller, Mark Levin, Ann Coulter... and there are other minor conservative radio hosts that will carry his message.

I'm just psyched that Newt finally won a primary... and S. Carolina is a pretty important state to carry historically. I've been a Newt supporter for a while and couldn't understand the importance the media and the left was placing on Romney... until recently it dawned on me that the left and the media wants him to win the nomination.... and I kept on asking myself the question... why?

Obamanation is going down ! Ha...hard to believe someone from Chicago would actually talk about lies and deceit in the politics of South Carolina.

Our present administration is Number One at handing out money at the fastest pace in history and the only "boot" Obama has ever had on anyone's throat is that of the American Taxpayer ! And Congress people that took "money for a vote" (eg: Louisana) should be tried for taking bribes...if not treason.

Any of the remaining Republican candidates would do a better job at running this country...unlike Obama who is ruining this country. If this was your household or business...you would be bankrupt !

And speaking of infidelity...I seem to remember Marilyn Monroe and Monica Lewinsky entering into Presidential relationships....ohhhh, nevermind....they were Democrats so it doesn't count. C'mon...who actually can believe the words of an ex-spouse? One thing about Newt...he paid 31 % tax...so even though he makes alot more money than most of us...he's paying his share, as compared to the always rich Romney who won't release his tax data unless he's the elected the candidate (15% tax).

But I don't think either of them would expect the American Taxpayer to spend millions on vacations and I know they would not be stupid enough to spend millions to fly jets over NY...just for a photo op!!

My job is up at the end of the month here in Montgomery and I'll be going back home for an extended visit. (hopefully)... I haven't been there since Christmas. You can't deny the cronyism, nepotism, and corruption. Do you seriously think 10% unemployment and the highest tax rate in the nation is a good thing? Are you seriously blaming the woes in Illinois on the GOP in DC?

Steve Schmidt, GOP strategist, commented that if Gingrich wins FL, the GOP establishment will go into a meltdown unseen in modern politics, right now, they're in shock.

Bet we see a lot of the establishment coming out against Gingrich this week.

soundmagic, true. Romney claims to be a religious man yet everytime he steps on the campaign stage, lies fly from his mouth. Maybe that's why he always looks so uncomfortable, he's holding his breath that a bolt of lightening doesn't strike him.

Hey, Bobbers, 75% of the people on food stamps are white; most receive them temporarily. You know who wrote the food stamp legislation, got it passed? Bob Dole, that's GOPer, Bob Dole.

Oi Jody .. it seems to have died down now that Newt quit speaking. Sirens still going off fairly constantly and clean-up is going to take a few days. There isn't a street without fallen trees, fences, roofing cluttering them. The village sidewalks were so littered with debris folks had to use the streets as sidewalks. And darn it .. my watering holes were without power. They should be up and running tomorrow so I can celebrate the Newt win, all in anticipation of Obama serving up his head on a platter.

                newday,

The ONLY person I see on this board that is a racist is you. For one time can you present an argument without bringing race into it? I mean, everyone else has matured and moved past color boundries...why can't you?

Really JK? Was that supposed to intimidate me out of telling the truth? So answer the question: what other President has been harassed about whether he is a citizen? What other FLOTUS has been termed an "angry black woman?"

Isn't it interesting how the "teabaggers" started having their collective tantrum when your President won the office, but couldn't be found when George Bush was spending this country into a depression? INCLUDING keeping wars off budget so no one would know the effect?

The heart of the fringe right wing and their unhappiness with this President (part of which is stupidity) is tribalism. And the crux of tribalism is racism.

Yep, the fringe right wing is just FULL of those nasty isms.

It is my experience that those who are as bothered by truth as YOU are JK need to do some soul searching to see if that truth is about YOU.

Do let us know, won't you?

                  Newday,

"your" president?? Last I checked, Bush was "our" president, much like you liberals like to remind everyone that Obama is "our" president. I was raised in a color blind household...my parents knew that racism was a ugly part of our past, but that people are judged by their actions and not by their skin color. YOU are the only person on this board that raises the race card. As for being challenged about Obama's citizenship, last I recall, he is the ONLY president that did not release his birth cerificate at the beginning of the campaign. He is the ONLY president that still has not released his college transcripts (not that means anything). But WHY didn't he release it? I mean I will admit that there is a fringe (on both sides of the political spectrum) that see conspiracy in every nook and cranny and no one can help them. But to my question for you...why do you always revert back to the issue of race when you should be expending your time to defending Obama's lack of leadership, and his lack of dealing with the economy (which by the way also includes dealing with Republicans). As I said before, I could care less about Obama's race, his skin color or the issue of his birth, what I care about is how does he lead this nation, perhaps you should care about that as well, instead of his skin color...

Perhaps you will get back to us and let us know when you have joined the rest of the civilized world and let go of your hatred and bigotry that has held everyone back for centuries...

Some insightful analysis suggests that Newt has captured the 'anger' that people have about what is going on. Watching Newt, you can see that this is probably true.

The irony is that people are angry at a divided congress that can get nothing done, which Newt helped to create when he was in the House. They are angry at the negative, nasty way that politicians talk about each other, which Newt also helped bring about when he was in the House. They are angry at career politicians, Newt was a member of the House for 20 years. They are angry at the moral turpitude of our representatives, Newt is a serial cheater, currently on his third wife. They are angry at the hypocrisy of politicians, Newt was trying to impeach President Clinton for a BJ, and attacking the president's character, while, at the same time, Newt was cheating on his wife. They are angry at the wealthy getting special treatment, while Newt's own economic proposal would give himself a $536,000/yr tax cut.

It baffles me that people who are not in the top 1% would even think about voting for this lying, flip-flopping, cheating, womanizing, greedy, elite.

Hi, Matthew. Nice to see you. Good points. Absolutely, Gingrich is the one who implemented divisive politics; he wouldn't even allow democrats into committee meetings, did not allow them to participate except on the House floor. I expect this week we will hear a lot more from the republicans who served with him as well as plenty of other republicans.

Well while Newt has been declared the winner in SC. Romney in his concession speech is dismissing Newt and is still looking and expects to be the nominee as he bashes the President and occasionally Newt. We have yet to hear what he plans to be and do, and not in quoting Ronald Reagan and bragging about his wealth and not so much about creating jobs. He is angry at Newt Gingrich and probably at the percentage of votes......could it be SC really has rejected Mitt? Ouch, that will hurt.

Bob it is not a liberal or democratic problem, this is the republican primary in which there has been three different winners in three different contests it seems that republicans are confused at what they need or want in a candidate. In any event no matter who gets the nomination a good portion of republicans will have to hold their nose to vote for him in the general because each candidate has problems with various but significant segments which represent large portions of republican voters.

I would say this about your comments of Gingich and his failed marriages. If your comments are directed towards how you would cast your vote, and what is so inportant to you on casting your vote for the "right" candidate, then Ron Paul would have to be your pick. He has been married for 54 years to the same person. Unlike FDR; and so many other Presidents, I do not believe Ron Paul's marriage and the reason they stayed together has been based on political interests. I also found it interesting that the Clinton's always admired and spoke so highly of Franklin and Eleanor. The fact of the matter is... that is the only thing the Clintons and the Roosevelts had in common... staying together for "political" purposes. Now there is a great marriage huh?

Eagle - most liberals don't have an issue with Newt cheating nor do they generally care about his numerous wives. What they care about is the hypocrisy. Preaching from the pulpit about family values while getting diddled by someone on their knees is the height of hypocrisy. Screaming that gay marriage ruins the institution of marriage while begging a wife for an open-marriage is hypocrisy.

He has shown us he doesn't have a family-values bone in his body, yet he continues to preach it. That is as Santorum puts it, "Just Disgusting".

My problem is not with the number of wives Newt or any one has. Some people spend a life time trying to get it together. It's the hypocrisy and mental abuse he inflicted on his two former wives. Had Newt been legally separated I could probably understand. He cheated on these women knowing they were both ill. To me that indicates a type of selfish, abusive character Newt has. If he can't hold dear to his heart the vows he made to his wives, how can we expect him to protect the highest Oath of Office?

Newt already failed his "public act of contrition" by going back on his word when he started going negative after the Romney attack ads. Proving once again he is unworthy of trust.

Needless to say, the hypocrisy of calling out President Clinton while he was having an illicit affair with a woman 20 years his junior is another character flaw I detest, by the way, it doesn't say very much for her either. I think you know how I feel about his bigotry and divisiveness.

As far as I'm concerned Newt is a 2 time loser.

Ron Paul is correct about the military budget to some extend. I could never vote Ron Paul. He is another bigot. I personally think he is a little touched in the head. I am very disheartened at the way he is misleading our youth with all those arcane ideologies. Yup, that's right Paul keep 'em while they are young. I know we were all young and got caught up in movements when we were in college; but Ron Paul is brainwashing our youth for his own aggrandizement. How many adults say between 40-50 follow him? How much diversity do you see in his rallies? Ditto all the rest of the candidates minus the cameramen and new reporters.

I don't agree with him and his theories about money either. If you follow him you'll see this fool will have you breaking your back wheeling your coins in a wheel barrow to the bank. The man is just too paranoid for me.

Are you aware new racists newsletters have surfaced since the last?

New Batch Of Ron Paul Newsletters Just As Racist As The First

Once again, contempt for African Americans and warnings of a “race war” are central themes in the most recently released materials. One issue warned “every honest American should be armed” to prepare for the coming violence.

@ Gingerbread Mamma, Thanks I am doing fine, I will not be mixing with the "elites" I will be mixing with with directors of the international office of my union and the employers representatives to discuss and plan training issues and curriculum that will better serve labor and management. Mostly regular guys that all came up the hard way, not at all the lazy, greedy, corrupt thugs as portrayed by some on this blog. The committee I was invited to be on is a prime example of labor and management working together to identify potential problems and recommend solutions and improvements that are mutually beneficial.

@ Beverly, no it's not too insensitive at all, I think my Grumpy old self was just too toxic for cancer, it was a republican strain of cancer and just could not handle my liberal democratic mind and body.

Gingerbread, Open your eyes. Romney did not expect to win in SC with all of the evangelicals there. He is probably estatic to get second place. Romney is leading the polls in FL and nobody really expects Newt to get very far. Is he even on the ballot in all of the states? What does that tell you? Listen to Romney and his closing statements in SC. So great to hear a guy who makes sense and knows what he is talking about. Still, the only dirt they can find on him is that his sons did not go to war and his dog rode on top of his car and that is is successful and rich. Wow what skeletons in the closet! And Newt is the opposite, a convicted crook. Thanks SC I bet you are proud now.

Liberals blubber and twist themselves in a frenzy for the Romney dog.... who didnt die from this trip but lived a long and happy life. Maybe some liberals would benefit from a trip on the roof....

Bill and Bob and all you lovely conservatives, I really dont care which of your awful candidates get the nomination. None of them, none of them, are any match for President Obama.

My observation of Romney, is just that, an observation. It is not an endorsement of Newt, who is nothing but a blowhard. He is all hot air, but entertaining. So get your pants untwisted, and remember, it is not enough just to dislike our President, you have to have a good candidate with a good message.....and that you don't have in any shape or form.

Bill, Romney was way ahead in the SC polls until his meltdown this week. His mistake was in assuming he had it locked up and instead of concentrating on SC, he went to Florida, then came back for the debate and it was downhill all the way. Yes, until the middle of the week, Romney felt he was going to win SC.

His big victory comes at Romney's expense not Obama's or the "liberal media" and just because he does not wish to questioned about his past does not mean that issue is resolved in the minds of the electorate, I will say I believe it will much less of an issue then his ethics violations as a speaker of the house that was run out of Congress by his own party. Newt is damaged goods to a lot of the electorate and to the republican establishment itself and there is very little he can do to change that fact.

Voters who call themselves "very conservative" are labelling themselves relatively, so a very conservative New Hampshirite might be a moderate or liberal South Carolinian. More importantly, though, very conservative voters also tend to be authoritarian followers, and authoritarian followers will tend to go with the flow. So a very conservative voter in a state where most people support Romney is more likely to vote for Romney than a very conservative voter in a state where most people hate Romney.

Tea Party and evangelical are redundant labels in this context because they are the same people as the very conservatives.

If Newt manages to earn the Republican nomination, I'll be interested to see whether he plays the balanced budget card, "As speaker, I balanced the budget"... when the obvious followup by the president would be to ask, "What were the tax rates during your speakership, Mr. Gingrich?" I also wonder how Mr. Gingrich feels about the fact that the Catholic church does not recognize his marriage, or his second marriage for that matter? I can hardly wait to see how he reacts when asked about that in a debate?

I find it interesting that you find yourself stuck on topics that truly have no significance. I thought the good people of America were fed up with status quo Presidents'? Gingrich, Romney, and Santorum represent just that... more of the same; politics as usual. There is only one candidate who represents the real change that America so desperately needs... that candidate is Ron Paul. He is the only candidate that has explained how America has gone off track, and what is needed to correct it.

And yes, Ron Paul could beat Obama by a landslide. Don't believe the lies of the media and all the commentators who say different. Ron Paul could beat Obama by a landslide.

Paul can't beat the weak Republican candidates he is running against so there is no way he could beat Obama in a landslide, none of these guys will beat Obama in a landslide, there has been three different winners in three contests, that does not spell landslide for republicans.

The only reason; and the only reason Ron Paul is not presently ahead of all the other status quo candidates is because of the status quo media. If Ron Paul is the GOP nomination he would beat Obama by a landslide. You are talking party politics, I am talking about Ron Paul capturing the hearts and votes of the entire nation. If Gingrich, Romney, and Santorum all dropped out of the race tomorrow, that's right... Ron Paul would take Obama by a landslide.

Catholic Leaders Call On Gingrich And Santorum To ‘Stop Perpetuating Ugly Racial Stereotypes’ About Poverty

He also said “really poor children…have no habits of working and have nobody around them who works,” and don’t know how to earn an income “unless its illegal.”

In Iowa, Santorum proclaimed, “I don’t want to make black people’s lives better” through government aid — conveniently ignoring that only 9 percent of Iowans on food stamps are black. After facing criticism for his remarks, he tried several times to deny he had ever made them.

The Catholic leaders who signed the letter call it “misleading and insulting” to suggest that the unemployed would rather collect benefits than work at a time when there are four job seekers for every job opening.

This is more proof Newt is unfit to be President which he'll soon find out; I predict. Those dog whistles may play out in billybob territory; but It won't fly all over this land.

Newt really needs to cut this victimization by the media too because they are upset at his antics.

If my aunt had balls she would be my uncle. Ron Paul is sincere in his beliefs and there are a lot of things people like about him but realistically he is not going to win anything in a landslide, he may not get the proper exposure from Fox but since running as a republican he has gotten more exposure than ever and while he has a significant amount of support he can't win anything in the republican primaries and so could never win a general election in a landslide.

Ron Paul could not even come close to beating President Obama, let alone beat him in a landslide. Because Dr. Paul was previously always a fringe candidate, he did not face the scrutiny he is now getting. Because the Republican field is so weak, he is doing better, this time around, and some serious problems are just now coming to light. His bigoted past is starting to catch up with him. His association with David Duke promises to be especially problematic. Not only that, his economic ideas would crash the US economy, and possibly take the world's economy with it, faster than the Republican/TP Inc. ever thought possible.

All of you Ron Paul supporters need to dig a lot deeper than you have. Don't take Dr. Paul's word for it, look beyond his claims. Study up on economics, and you'll see how dangerous his ideas really are. Don't take my word for it, do some research on your own . . . if you dare. Any of you who answer this tonight with the 'wide eyed adulation' that is typical, claiming 'I have done my research', will not be credible.

I do not believe Ron Paul is worried about being too old to run in 2016; instead, he worried about another status quo President. I think he worried that there may not be an America around for too much longer due to the failed leadership of this country. Who cares about who will be the President in 2016 if there is no America. Heck, you could run for President by 2016 too Tom.

I disagree. Ron Paul is not claiming he has "better ideas", he is pointing out how America has gone wrong, and what took the country off coarse. The number one responsibility of the President or any elected servant; especially the President, is to uphold the Constitution. I believe at Ron Pauls age, attention is the very least of his motivations. He loves his country, and was blessed with the motivation to seeing America functions and survives according to the Supreme Law of the Land.

Ha she may have been sincere in her beliefs but I don't think god her creator would recognize her with all that make up she wore like spackle.

I'm just happy to see the circular firing squad go on for as long as possible... It doesn't matter who wins the GOP primary. Anyone who comes out for "giving the rich whatever they want and that will make it all OK" is going to lose in the current political environment, period. We did that for 30 years, it almost destroyed us.

And that's in a two-man race. When Ron Paul throws in (How can he not? His numbers are better than they've ever been!) It's Obama by a landslide.

Jody, I imagine the phone lines are burning with conference calls just now with the Republican leadership. As if they will let Gingrinch have the nomination!

Shoot, Theresa, the only possible credible Republican/TP Inc. party challenger to President Obama quit a week ago: Jon Huntsman. That would have been a close race, but I think that President Obama would have still beat him, since Huntsman was espousing the same policies that brought on the biggest recession, since The Great Depression.

If this becomes a brokered Republican/TP Inc. convention, don't be surprised if none of the current crop of clowns candidates are on the ticket, or, at best, the first place winner is the VP choice.

I am still waiting for some substantive comments that would point out one position that Ron Paul takes which would be considered the status quo? The American people have a real candidate in Ron Paul, and if it is all about who can beat Obama, nobody would be Obama by a greater landslide than Ron Paul.

Just because it isn't 'the status quo' doesn't mean that it is a better position. His economic ideas would CRASH the US economy, faster than it took the Republican/TP Inc. party to get us this far down. His ideas would take us back to the economic conditions that prevailed during the 'Gilded Age', and the isolationist stance we had after WWI. His social ideas would take us back to the 'Jim Crow' segregationist days that relegated a significant segment of our population to second class citizen status (and he really would prefer society to be that way, do a search on him and his relation to David Duke).

And a little advise, broken records do not get listened to.
