ATLANTA —Predicting an extended nominating fight, Mitt Romney said Wednesday he didn't expect the GOP primary season to result in a "coronation," all while downplaying a sweep of three nominating contests last night by Rick Santorum.
Romney said he still expected to become the Republican Party's nominee against President Obama this fall, but seemed to brace for a longer-than-expected path to the nomination.
“We think we can beat Sen. Santorum where we compete head-to-head in an aggressive way, and we obviously didn’t do that in Colorado or Minnesota to the extent that the other campaign did," Romney said on an airport Tarmac here in Georgia. "There will certainly be places where he wins, and there will be places where I win. There’s no such thing as coronations in presidential politics. It’s meant to be a long process. It’s not easy to get the nomination, it’s not easy to be elected president and this is a testing ... a testing approach. And so far we’re doing pretty well.”
Last night's contests — in which no delegates were awarded, Romney's campaign was quick to point out — did not, however, go so well for Romney. He suffered double digit defeats in Minnesota, where he won four years ago, and in Missouri, where Newt Gingrich did not appear on the ballot. In Colorado, a state where Romney competed actively and where the campaign seemed confident of a win, he lost by five points to Santorum.
Asked today about lessons learned in the defeat, Romney came out swinging, lumping Santorum together with Gingrich as a creature of Washington, and blaming both men for fostering a spending and earmark culture that ultimately hurt the Republican party, and spawned the Tea Party movement. The former Massachusetts governor said he did not respond to attacks while campaigning in Nevada, but that going forward he would make differences between himself and his opponents "very clear."
"Under Newt Gingrich earmarks doubled. Rick Santorum was a major earmarker and continues to defend earmarks. Under Rick Santorum he voted to raise the debt ceiling I believe five different times to a tune of about an addition $3.5 trillion," Romney said. "I believe that while Sen. Santorum was serving in congress and the Senate, government spending increased by some 80%. Republicans spent too much money, borrowed too much money, earmarked too much, and Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich have to be held accountable."
Romney followed up with a spending-based attack on Santorum at a rally later on: "During Sen. Santorum's time in Washington, government grew 80 percent. And he voted to raise the debt ceiling five times."
Perhaps looking to reclaim his economy-oriented message, Romney turned his attack on Santorum and Gingrich into an attack on borrowing and spending more broadly, and hammered his point home.
"When Republicans act like Democrats, they lose. And in Newt Gingrich’s case he had to resign. In Rick Santorum’s case, he lost by the biggest margin of any Senate incumbent since 1980. Again, borrowing, spending, and earmarking is not a good combination if you’re a Republican and not a good combination, in my view, for America," Romney said.

Sounding more and more like a brokered convention.
Let the games continue
Obama/Biden 2012
Obviously Romney hopes enough candidates stay in to split the votes and win by default. Sounds like a corporate raider who profits from nothing tangible and at the expense of others (in this case, the nation).
Romney's policies increases the deficits, call for additional spending and one could say his tax cuts are borrowed. After a decade those tax cuts will take 6 trillion dollars out of revenues.
A regular genius! Thank you Captain Obvious.
Instead of an extended primary, maybe the GOP should put all the names in a hat and draw the winner. Or maybe sell them tickets for a raffle with the grand prize being a Barack Beatdown. Those would be the most efficient and cost-effective ways to pick a candidate. What they're doing know is just a glorified version of those methods anyway, so why not?
I vote for the "GOP Hunger Games".
But that would require actually finding some hungry Republicans.....
And just like so many posters here, he showed his ignorance of the Constitution in those remarks.
The Senate is PART of the CONGRESS, Congress is NOT just the HOUSE.
This is also why it is incorrect to call members of the House "Congressman/woman". Article 1, Section 2 refers to them as Members (not even Representatives, let along Congressman/woman) while Section 3 refers to members of the Senate as Senators.
To think that fiesty and company thought romney was the one at the beginning of january. lol!
My husband, granddaughter and myself voted in Missouri last night. The
voting place was empty (we were the only ones there). At the hour most people would vote after work. Very low turn out. So what is there to brag about, no delegates.
Our granddaughter voted for the first time, my pride.
#3 VOTES FOR OBAMA 2012
Do you have something to back up that claim or are you just talking out of your a$$ like you normally do?
From Mittens "Future President of the Cayman Islands and other areas where he hides his real money"
Richard John "Rick" Santorum (born May 10, 1958) is an American Republican Party politician. He was a lawyer before becoming the Representative for suburban Pittsburgh in 1991 and Senatorfor Pennsylvania from 1995, before losing his seat in 2006 and returning to law, public policy and the media
So.. When InSanity(Orum), was in Congress, you admit we had to much deficit spending? Wasn't here there during the BUSH years? Hmm. Wow, a republican that's trying to speak the truth. Isn't that against your code of ethics?
Obama 2012.
Although I believe Romney would be the best candidate in the general to go against Obama, any one of the final four GOP presidential candidates would be a vast improvement over our current Downgrade President.
If given the choice this election season, most Dems would vote for Hillary over Obama. Buyers' remorse....
A bunch of fuss for nothing. Making news to sell papers...
Nevada-Brett - not a chance. There is no buyer's remorse. We voted for the best person to do the job and he is doing a good job. Now if Republicans just gave a damn about the country instead of "anything to beat Obama!"
The only buyers remorse I see at the moment is at the tea baggers in Congress!
Congress has officially hit an all time low with a 10% approval rating per Gallup.
They were given a chance and BLEW IT!
Gee... I wonder why?
Change is a coming and the GNOP is not going to be happy with it... not happy at all! ;o)
You are part of the problem
So which GOP play is this? "The Sound and the Fury"?
or "Much Ado About Nothing"?
(Obama/Biden 2012)
A lot of republicans lost their seats in 2006. Then the madness continued through 2008 when the democrats took total control of our government. The democrats could have kept their seats too, but for the madness that occurred between 2008 and 2010.
The liberals haven't even woke up from the shock of 2010 yet... In 2008 there were 239 democrats and 201 republicans in the house. In 2010 the shift was substantial. Democrats held 192 seats and the republicans held 242.
I believe the loss of 47 seats effected the mentality of liberals. It made them angry that the American public tossed a bunch of democrats out on their ears.
What do liberals do? They start attacking everything republican... I wonder how the independents view the attacks? Do they think the democrats are the responsible party for using school yard tactics? At least the republicans held true to what they said they were going to do... Block Obama at every turn... Liberals forgot about that promise... and turned it around to the party of "no." Well, no was the plan and the republicans stuck to it. And the liberals don't like it.
Now the contentious liberals insist that Obama is going to win... They have nothing to back up their claims, only their anger at republicans. The polls are all over the place so they aren't reliable. Republicans don't view other republicans in the same light as liberals, neither do independents or they wouldn't be independent.
Interesting times... the liberal sideshow is entertainment beyond belief.
When will they ask Romney the real questions?
Like:
1."Romney, explain to everybody how taking your money and sending it to shelters overseas so you can pay under 14 percent taxes is helping Americans?"
2."So Romney, do you send the bulk of your money overseas because you value the trade of other countries over America's, or did you send your money over there so you didn't have to pay as much in taxes as everybody else does?"
3."Romney, you like to say that you pay what you owe in taxes and not a dollar more, but what if the vast majority of America thinks you should pay a lot more? Should you pay more or tell them you don't care and don't need their votes anyways?"
4. "Romney, do you think all Americans should pay only 14 percent of their incomes to taxes and we can all watch America slide into third-world status or just the rich people who can afford to send money overseas and not contribute to America's problems?"
I wonder how the independents view the attacks?
---------------------------------------------------------
With a sense of wonder and amusement Brian. Nothing beats listening to the inane gibbering of the dems and repubs as they toss their venom at each other. Then, after a chuckle and a reflection on what chances we have that a third party will rise up and save us from the insanity, we go back to paying attention to the important things in life.
To bad noone does any digging on Romney using his political clout to condemn a subsidized housing project for the land then reaping the benefits through 'blind' corporations...he so does love the poor >.> but nooooo...media doesn't look because we the people don't elect our candidates the political machine does & it doesn't want change...just too feed upon the american people like so much vampires.
Great observation Chucky. Since I operate from an ideology stand point, it's a bit different for me. I read ideology into everything posted. I find the hubris interesting... and I don't mind engaging in a little myself. We all have to be a little sick in the head to keep on beating each other's bodies on a daily basis... but I just can't help it, it's too much fun.
The elections are way too early to even begin to imagine who's going to win. Yet here we are, most of us on a daily basis, tossing every word weapon we have at the opposition. Are there any real winners?
Brianb-999431 - How is any of your comment relevant to this article? Do you all everyone a liberal who doesn't agree w/you? If you do, you fit in the vast majority of your GOP brethren.
I will say this... watching the republicans tear each other apart in this presidential race is not only amusing, but hilarious. Its because of the GOP's candidates that Obama will win, not just because of Obama's accomplishments.
Defend America - Vote out the TeaRepublicants
Brianb - same people that think the Santorum loss in 2006 matters never would have voted for Abraham Lincoln either. That includes Donald Trump. The leadership in the party is detached from the general republican populace.
I saw something like this coming and pointed it out several times on Newsvine - nobody listened and they still aren't.
Asimplicity, have You ever thought that maybe our government waste to much money ? Have You ever thought about the amount of money they have coming in, and it is never enough ? Let Me tell You, the more You give them the more they will spend. Everyone should be paying at about Romney's level or less. Obama has done a hell of a job diverting the attention from a out of control government to blaming it on the rich people. Everyone needs to wake up and realize where the real problem lies. That My friends is with the government spending, and wasting way way way to much of our hard earned money! Fiesty, would You agree with that ? You should be able to see that in Your state especially, broke and corrupt !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYVmgrskMSg&feature=related
Halftime commercial.
DB Akron - I couldn't agree with you any more about the republican party. Their leadership is completely detached. They would have a great cause but for keeping with it. They would do good things for this country but for how bad they manage things.
If we had more choices that were viable for president, I believe the republicans would die out. But, until that happens, and it very well might since the independents are growing stronger by the day, we still only have 2 choices for president.
After reading the back and forth banter being thrown around again I am reminded why I spend much less time here...
Whatever happens just vote. Take the time to do it.
What a laugh
The Mitt, Newt and Ron Show is on kiddies it could even outdraw the 3 Stooges marathon
The Amphibian Newt the sleaziest politician to ever infest Washington
The Lunatic In-Sanetorum a throwback to the social thinking of the Neanderthal
And the Mittens Rob-us-blind Flip Flop, the 1%'er CORPERTE RAIDER and one time governor of Liberal Mass but now he is an arch conservative. Has supported Abortion, Gay Rights, Gun Control, Stem Cell Research and has reverse himself on all of these issues.
He took both sides on the financial bailout, the stimulus bill, the auto loan package;
His biggest Flip-Flop of all Health Care Reform The national Law is modeled on the one that he championed as governor in Mass that requires every citizen to have health insurance. Now he has Flipped-Flopped. Mr. Flop has taken a hard slide to the right pandering and boot licking to the tea party.
Mitt Flip-Flop Rob-us-blind, a wishy-washy, flip flopping spineless politician without any core convictions, principals or believes a man who will say or do anything to get elected telling one crowd one thing and another crowd another. You simply can’t trust this guy to tell you the truth.
The only good thing that would happen if Flip-Flop were to get elected It would prove that Conservatism is dead as Flip-Flop would stab the Conservatives in the back.
Mittins recent foot in mouth quotes:
I like being able to fire people
I’m not concerned about the very poor
Let Detroit go bankrupt
Don’t try to stop the foreclosure process
Who could not be any less convincing as an “ordinary guy” if he literally wore a top hat and monocle?
Maybe the producers of Spartacus : Vengeance episodes should move their filming locations to follow the nominating trail, blood and gore aplenty and no need for a dialogue director.
Chucky they forget that in November neither can win the election without us. I just wish both sides sounded more mature than a 13 year old.
That is not the Republican talking point. The Republican talking point is "everyone should be paying at Romney's level period, except for the richest people in the country who will pay nothing". Yes, that is Newt Gingrich's tax plan, which will raise taxes on most Americans and lower taxes for the wealthiest.
The left can crowd and occupy with who's rich and who is not. The fact is that NONE of the politicians have been pulled from a food line! THAT'S NOT THE POINT! Obama's Presidency has been a total failure. Spending, spending, spending - and failing to bring any prosperity to the average American. Solyndra-gate is still out there as well. Good try, but epic fail.
ABO 2012
Rick better grab an umbrella...
Willard's
attack dogsSuper PAC'S are about to rain all over him!Mitt is taking the fight to Rick with tonnes of money in his trunk........Super PAC = SUPER HIJACKERS
To bad mitt the ripper money cant by you votes.
Another obama success story....
The American public's dependence on the federal government shot up 23% in just two years under President Obama, with 67 million now relying on some federal program, according to a newly released study by the Heritage Foundation.
The conservative think tank's annual Index of Dependence on Government tracks money spent on housing, health, welfare, education subsidies and other federal programs that were "traditionally provided to needy people by local organizations and families."
The increase under Obama is the biggest two-year jump since Jimmy Carter was president, the data show.
No doubt about it. Romney is about to unleash the hounds!
The thing is, he shouldn't have to. Especially against Rick Santorum, a man who's name would by synonymous with the phrase, "querulous bigot," if it didn't ALREADY have a definition assigned to it.
That Romney has to waste resources on Santorum... I think the only people who dislike Romney more than the liberals is the conservatives. And given Romney's record and past positions, I can't blame them.
But they should suck it up. Romney will win the nomination, nothing has changed in that regard.
When will Mittens admit that 'I know they don't like me'!....but I want them to like me....I want to be President......please like me!
The media will certainly begin the vetting of Santorum. I wonder if Romney will continue the negative ads though, since this may be backfiring. And while Santorum has baggage, it isn't as nasty as Newt.
What Romney really needs to do is convince voters to be FOR him. The problems are 1) the boy who cried wolf, in that Romney is viewed as someone who'll say anything, and 2) are there any reasons voters should vote for him beyond possible electability?
Santorum will have to overcome his obsession with social conservative wedge issues -- It's to the point that he actually argues it as an economic position. Wow, just wow. I can tell ya the general electorate ain't buying into that.
Robert we are talking about Romney and Santorum here, get with the program man.
Oh, good grief, Rob, President Bush signed legislation that increased the income allowed for receipt of federal assistance. In case you didn't notice, the economy collapsed in 2008 under Bush and those who suffered the most as a result of that collapse are those who already were struggling to make ends meet; they continue to struggle. 98% of Americans incomes have flat lined or declined since the Reagan era; the only exception was during President Clinton's term. Bush's economic plan was a disaster and ALL but the richest people have been hurt by those failed policies. Give it a rest, Rob, or at least pull your head out of the sand.
Jody--I hope you saved that response on your computer--something tells me you will have to repeat it for the Republicans who post here often.
Rob - since the Republicans complain about Obama being the "food stamp President" all I can figure is that they want to elect the "no food President".
Thanks Jody.
Rob...you're not "in ma"...you're in fantasy land. You might want to install a window over your belly button...with your head so far up your ass you will be able to look out and see reality once in a while.
Rob in ma-3189632 - Because I was bored.. I did some 'research on this "Index" Of Dependence on America Government":
www.heritage.org/research/factsheets/2012/02/index-of-dependence-on-government-no-slowdown-in-sight
How can you use this to justify anything about Obama. Where do they get their facts? Did they manufacture these themselves? Where are the corporate welfare stats? Oh wait, we shouldn't care about 4 billion dollars subsidizing the already "Record Profit" Oil Companies right? Also considering what this organization is about:
Looks a lot like "HorseSh*t" to this Texan. Lastly, I didn't know this article was about Obama. I thought it was about InSanity (orum) and Mittens.
Dang, Robert, it looks like the last couple of posters handed you your a$$ on a silver platter. (And I loved it!) Allow me to add, "you're full of baloney!"
Rob in ma-3189632
Your "stat" is about as asinine as it gets. Why don't you complete your sentence correctly?
... "Given the economy handed Obama by Bush, more people needed assistance than since the Great Depression"
There. That sets the record straight. Maybe the tin hats will keep their mouths shut for a few minutes?
The bottom line - conservatives don't like Romney so they picked Gingrich, then when they realized what a criminal Gingrich was, they switched their votes to Santorum. When they figure out that Santorum is no brighter than Bush, they will switch to someone else.
Romney's business experience - buying up American companies, liquidating their assets, and firing people - not exactly the kind of business experience I want in a president.
As for all the excitement of deficits and people dependent on government. Hoover was responsible for the Great Depression - America understood that. Then America understood that the Republicans opposed everything FDR tried to do. Then America voted 74 Dems into the Senate. Then what do you know - the country came out of the depression.
Oh, and by the way, in 1885, it happened much the same way. Americans saw through the false rhetoric of the wealthy and their bought senators and voted in the opposition. Class Warfare you say? - you bet! It's how you build a middle class and a sound economy. It's called Democracy.
I can hardly wait for Romney to unload. He's going to look worse than Texas Governor Ann Richards did against "W". He already looks bad for what he did to Gringrich.
'Willard's
attack dogsSuper PAC'S are about to rain all over him!' from FeistyMore like Willards 'Attack Rats'...like from the horror movie 'Willard'!
Ya gotta google it .....Willard.......and the main character in the 1980's movie looks eerily like young Romney. In the movie Willard uses rats to get back at people he doesn't like...eventually the rats take control of him. Rumour has it ...that is why Romney changed his first name - because he had ambitions then for higher office and it wouldn't look good with the name of 'Willard'.
What a great name for his SuperPAC - THE ATTACK RATS!
It's a long way to the convention and there is more than number counting for the candidate going on there. For all of you children there is the platform fight in which each win by the other 3 candidates gives them a louder voice. This isn't candidateville for all you videogame players. Even if they don't pull more votes than Mitt They could combine power to affect other convention stratagies. And if Big Daddy gets his butt in gear there is still the floating Texas primary to consider.
How do you determine who the nominee will be when you don't even have a candidate yet?
Just in case there are more of you interested: (which Americans SHOULD BE!); there is a "Citizens Anti - Norquist Pledge" available on change.org , Facebook & Twitter. If the nations #1 lobbyist for the "pipeline" can get 238 Congressmen & 41 Senators (including Mitt & Newt) to sign his pledge, this should get thousands . His mis-leadingly named group ATR is the furthest thing from "Tax Reform" there is?? They, the GOP & "Tea Party" refuse to even look at the "TAX CODE"; with its $1.1TRILLION in "breaks"; Plus allowing 45% to pay NOTHING?? Wake Up!! "AX THE TAX CODE". Stop the "Gridlock". Do what the PEOPLE Want; Not Corporations & the 1%??
According to Romney, he's nothing like those evil Washington insiders (Gingrich and Santorum). But what exactly is Romney like? He spends so much time and money telling us what he's against, but what is he FOR?
Well for starters Tax cuts for the top 1% and Tax shelters in foreign countries. Unless the wind changes direction...
Ursula
Clearly Mitter's economic program is to lower (or eliminate) income taxes born by the uber wealthy which will stimulate jobs. Only problem is that the Republicans/Bush 43 tried the same thing and so far it hasn't worked.
When asked why during the Florida debates, Newter mumbled something about "economic conditions"
Somehow cutting revenues without a startling economic boom is supposed to shrink the deficit. Kinda like losing money on each one sold but we will make it up in volume.
He's for being against Obama.
Quite honestly, I'd prefer a Washington insider to someone whose idea of reinvesting in America is putting his money in the Cayman Islands and Switzerland. At least the insiders are INSIDE our country.
Obviously liberals have forgotten that Obama kept the tax cuts. These are the same tax cuts liberals claim were just for the 1%. Well, I'm far from being a 1%er and I appreciate the cuts in my taxes. Tell me the truth, in your own household... do you want to pay more taxes? I mean if these so called taxes for the 1% helped me out... who's not being truthful about the tax situation? When they expire, tell me then that these tax cuts were strictly for 1% of the population. Tell me how happy you are that the government is suddenly making a money grab for your wallet. You know, the same government that gets a dimes worth out of every dollar they spend.
No matter what Romney, or Santorum do, each is head and shoulders, more qualified than the fraud in office now.
Spoken like a completely uneducated tea party member Dasvet! I wonder what the average IQ of tea party members is, maybe 80ish?
No, BrianB, President Obama did not 'keep the tax cuts', they were shoved down his throat. He accepted them so that he could get some benefit for people who were about to lose their jobs. And, unless you were making over $100,000.00, from the Bush tax cuts, you received less than $150.00/month in tax cuts, some received less than $5.00/month, while most received about $50.00/month. The top 1%? Over $2,750.00/month. The top 1% received over 24% of the benefits from the Bush tax cuts.
If tax cuts to the
'job creators'wealthiest create jobs, WHERE ARE THE JOBS???? It is only after the President prevented a depression, and some of his policies have started to kick in, that we are finally seeing job improvement. God knows the jobs were not created in 2007, 2008 or 2009 when the worst of the Republican/TP Inc. party recession was in full swing, and the tax cuts had been in place for over three years.President Obama wanted to keep the tax cuts for those making less than $250,000.00/year, and if you made more than that, because of the way that the tax code works, everyone would still have benefited since even the wealthy would receive those breaks on the first $250,000.00 they made.
Educate yourself BrianB.

http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=1811
Matthew - You are a prime candidate for the class warfare hall of fame. What is it to you that the top 1% received the most in cuts? Are you a 1%er? Do you know how much a person in the top category pays in taxes? It's a matter of proportion... the more you make, the more you pay... and who are you to be the arbiter of what a person pays into the system anyway? I received my tax cut and I was quite satisfied with it. Considering that I was paying more in taxes before the cuts took hold.
President Obama was forced into the cuts. I'll call bullsh!t on that one. He could have done it a dozen different ways. Why limit tax cuts to only those making below a certain threshold. Have you read the Constitution lately? Do you know what it says about tax rates? Article 1. Read it. Understand it and then you will see why the republicans insisted on equal cuts for everyone. You should be thankful for the republicans because they were keeping with the Constitution. Some scholar you are.
Where are the jobs? Have you asked a democrat lately? From what I hear, the jobs are slowly coming back... but you lefty liberals credit Obama for that even though the house went republican... and a year later the unemployment rate is... falling? Ut oh. Considering that Obama has done NOTHING... NOTHING to make improvements in the unemployment rate... and you loony leftists are still screaming where are the jobs... It's not working Matthew.
Spoken like a completely uneducated tea party member Dasvet! I wonder what the average IQ of tea party members is, maybe 80ish?
I know the answer Jan,
Fourteen percent of Tea Party supporters have a post-graduate education, compared with 10 percent for the general public. Twenty-three percent of Tea Party supporters have a college degree, compared with 15 percent for the general public
http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/15/us/politics/15poll.html?pagewanted=all
The average IQ of america is held to be 106.
To degrading them doesn't help your cause.
From the viewpoint of 64 years trickle down has never trickled past the wealthy pockets. Trickle up poverty seems to be working well though 1 in 3 Americans now gets a check from the government.
lonereb, then who in the hell bought all those houses, boats, and cars if nothing ever trickled down? I bought four houses and I have never considered myself rich, but just a person who worked hard for my earnings that trickled down from a wealthy person. For Jan, anyone who thinks the inner city democrat party voter is more intelligent than an average Teaparty voter is smoking something other than a Marlboro.
Brian: "the more you make, the more you pay"; ONLY if you get rid of the "CAPS" and "CUTS". "AX THE TAX CODE" Sign the "Anti-Norquist Pledge". Stop the 'gridlock"??
So, BrianB, what you are saying is, when the the wealthy get more tax breaks, and tax loopholes than 99% of the rest of the population, that is not class warfare, but if someone dares to question that system, it is class warfare? Are you suggesting that having over 66% of income growth from Nov. 2001 to Dec. 2007 going to the top 1% and less than 15% going to the bottom 90% isn't class warfare? http://www.cbpp.org/cms/index.cfm?fa=view&id=2908
Your ad hominem attack on me, and your right wing rhetoric is stupid, and only shows your hypocrisy. But since you brought it up, what do you care if the upper 2% have their taxes raised? Are you in the top 2% (btw, I am)? Do you even know what they pay in taxes? Who are you to be the arbiter of who pays what?
My concern is that everyone be treated equally, under the law. My concern is that laws actually promote the general welfare of this country, even your sorry a$$.
Article 1 of the Constitution has a bearing on this, how? It bolsters your pro-class warfare argument, how? You are the one who does not understand Article 1 of the Constitution, BrianB. You might want to read it, and have someone who understands it, explain it to you. You know, someone who is a Constitutional scholar, and maybe even taught Constitutional Law at a respected Law University, like maybe The University of Chicago's College of Law.
Excuse me? The jobs started happening when the Republican/TP Inc. party took over the House? Liar! The private sector has seen job growth for 23 straight months, which means it started well before the Republican/TP Inc. party took over the House. Not only that, can you point to even one piece of legislation the Republican/TP Inc. party originated, passed, and was signed into law that created one single job? All that the Republican/TP Inc. party has done is to obstruct every bill they possibly could that would create jobs, including those that they have historically supported.
As for your calling BS on the tax cuts being shoved down his throat, read this: http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2010/12/06/statement-president-tax-cuts-and-unemployment-benefits. It was the Republicans refusal to compromise, and his desire to keep the benefits for the lower 98%, that he decided to keep all of the tax cuts.
BrianB, we know you are a partisan hack who gets all of his information from Faux Noise, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, and only looks at right wing propaganda sites. We get that. But you might want to think twice before posting, and demonstrating your lack of factual information. Facts really aren't your strong suite, are they BrianB?
Meh, all this tax talk and baloney about Mitts money. And the garbage about the Bush depression and Obama saving jobs. Truly I wonder how many of you liberals believe that on the inside.
Why shouuldnt Mitt make money? If business is slow why shouldnt he lay off employees who wouldnt even have the job that they did until he hired them? Honestly the federal government and the budget would be in much better shape if the feds let go of the stupidest and laziest of the employees on the rolls.
13%? So what? Should he write a bonus check? Prop up the feds with his own money? If thats all the dirt there is on Romney its hands down game over come November.
Has anyone in the Republican leadership noticed the historically low approval rating for the Republican-led House? Have House Repulicans been "acting like Democrats"?
Seems like the Democratic-majority House had higher approval numbers than today's House does. Maybe Romney needs to flip again, and embrace his Massachusetts moderate inner self.
Not if he wants the Tea Bagger vote.
The Teapublican House is beyond help, from Romney or any of the candidates. They've been busted for borderline treason, and are now a gift to President Obama and the Dems -- Who are now campaigning on income inequality, fair taxation, strengthening the middle class, job creation and investing in our country and future in general (hear the engines roar!)
At the national level, Romney made a mistake in deciding to run away from his record as governor and instead focusing on his business experience. Bain Capital corporate raiding, being a 1%er paying only 14% in taxes with shelters overseas, etc. has done more harm than good. He should have pointed out any reduction in health care costs achieved by RomneyCare, what was learned about job creation (or in his case obstacles to job creation), and just owned up to it in the most positive way he could.
Now, if Romney had embraced his moderate inner self in this way, would he make it through the primary process with the far-right Teapublicans? I think not. So perhaps he had no other choice than to run on business credentials.
What this shows is there's a deeper problem than the candidates, and it is a problem with how far to the Right the GOP/TP have gone -- And how entrenched they are in a failed platform of voodoo economics, war-mongering, and social conservatism to the point of "Personhood" legislation.
The demographic changes will make all this moot in the future, and this is why Teapublicans are so emotionally irrational (hateful) and fast-tracking (i.e. jamming through) what ever they can. For now, the only hope the radical Right has is to use underhanded tactics to win.
Romney isn't really a moderate.
He's actually under the category 'Moderate Democrat', more or less.
Going on his track record alone, not his speaches.
Healthcare, public abortion funding, etc.
If we can get him to believe in some manufacturing protectionism(instead of laissez-faire) and fair trade, he'd be downright 'Progressive'.
It tells us that a GOP candidate who wanders anywhere near the policies of the present occupant of the White House, will have a hard time in a GOP primary. Whomever is the GOP nominee at the end of the primaries will get all the backing possible to get Obama out of office. That is a good thing.
Polls are totally misleading. Especially when it comes to congress. When someone is asked the question, how do you think congress is doing, the answer is low because they consider the entire body instead of one candidate. Right now, a lot of people have a low opinion of congress, but these same people have a low opinion of government in general. The numbers would be totally different if they were asked about their congressman alone.
If you think for one moment that the tea party congressmen that were placed by the people in their district are disliked by those in their district, watch the re-election results this fall. The tea party congressional members have done exactly what their constituents wanted them to do. They will get re-elected because congress is voted in by district.
If you are a liberal, you hate the tea party and wouldn't vote for a tea party member... but those that were elected, were placed there by those that support the tea party in their districts. There won't be much turn over in the tea party in 2012... in fact there may very well be some additional tea party members added. I can feel your hate developing... I can feel the temptation to collapse this post... go ahead. It won't change the truth.
When I see some truth I will definitely collapse it, or not. However, live with your delusions of grandeur for the dying tea party. Ah its been so sweet to watch your candidates go down in flames during this primary season. The most fun watching you all drool over someone who was conning you using pokemon quotes and a sims tax plan. LOL
While not all the tea party will lose their jobs, some will, the governors made sure of that. The only thing tea party being elected to congress means is people really don't pay close enough attention to congressional candidates. This is why when they have to really put up or shut up, they fall from their high and mighty bible thumping pedestals you put them on.
Tell that to the people who elected Tea Party members to replace those that weren't serving the people in 2010 Jan. The tea party is far from over, or dying. They have taken themselves out of the spotlight... on purpose. It's easier to operate without all the liberal bashing and grassroots are the most effective way of operating on a local level. The media is hostile to conservatives so the best way to avoid the negatives is to lay low.
You keep on thinking they are over. No skin off my teeth.
Brian: that's pretty funny. The Tea Party hasn't been pummeled by the "media"...they've been pummeled by average AMericans. The negative rating of the Tea Party has soared as their real agenda began to surface (hint: it has nothing to do with "fiscal responsibilitiy") . Positive ratings? Just 25% of Americans view the Tea Party favorably...that's not the work of liberals, that's the work of the Tea party.
Latest the DoD is refusing to sell used brass to American companies for reloading but will pay to shred it, and sell it for less money to China. Real good business sense there put Americans out of work and pay money to sell at a lower price. And you wonder why our country is going broke.
The one thing that may damage Tea Party candidates is the fact that many Democratic governors, like Governor Quinn, took advantage of a government power after 2010-which also happened to be a census year unfortunately, to redistribute and redistrict all those areas that supported conservative candidates-to dilute the conservative voices, and try to make re-election difficult without every having to prove that a representative did not perform according to the constituents wishes
Hey "Sanitarium Santorum" you had better take poltical refuge in your local Catholic Church quickly. Please Santorum! When you are hiding poltically from "Romulian Romney?" Leave your GOP/RNC Clown Outfit at home for a change! The "Romulian" War Bird Of Prey is economically fueled up, and ready to poltically dismantle the GOP/RNC's "Intolerant One." Now the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" has so much money from his Super PAC's Of Crap. That the "Romulian" is out to crush "Sanitarium Santorum" politically, and then have him fired economically. Now "Santorum can say all the prayers that he wants, and he has the freedom to do that. He does not think that women have no freedom to decide their own very personal medical decisions. Now talk about hypocracy America! The "Romulian" has NO idea of who the Middle Class are, and so he may become confused when going after Santorum. What a joke America!
Hey Progressive=forward 11, grow up. By name calling you are lowering yourself to the level of your perceived enemy. Calling names does nothing to advance the conversation forward. While I am in no way a conservative or do I favor any of the current Republican candidates for President I have respect enough to not call them names other than their real name or nick name used by family and friends. You need to show some respect too. Name calling doesn't gain friends or do much to influence people but makes the name caller look foolish.
baldeagle most of these namecallers haven't matured past grade school. I don't take anybody seriously whose maturity level is about 13.
One wonders if the GOP/RNC "Speculator and Chief" is taking $10,000 bets on this?? Oh! That's right! The "Romulian" has many Super PAC's Of "Political Crap" to help pay off his bets. One wonders if the Middle Class, the Working Poor, the disabled, and the elderly have that much money to bet??
Gee, after his Florida and Nevada wins, Mitt Romney was walking on air, sure he would win the nomination; it appears the balloon burst under his feet last night.
Seems the Midwest doesn't like his weather vane ways.
Santorum is the candidate who attacked the conservatism of the rest by accusing them of supporting legislation to deal with global warming. Obviously he would win the votes of the people who don't believe in science.
Jody
Quick what's the difference between Nevada and Colorado? Nevada 28% Mormon, Colorado 3%.
I suspect that the polls have been so far off the mark recently is that folks don't want to admit to a stranger that they are apprehensive about voting for a Mormon.
I noted earlier that if Mormons were excluded (90+% Mitter) from the Nevada totals, the result would be Mitter 43%, anti-Mitter 47%. Ron Paul has his own following so doesn't figure in this equation.
LoyalTexan: I don't think has to do with the "anti-Mormon" vote. This has to do with a whole lot of people staying home rather than vote for any one of these "candidates". Voter turnout in every one of those states was extremelly low.
Newton must need a hug. Nobody's talking about him today.
Sorry, we are fresh out he's going to have to wait for the Southern Primaries for that.
They're all too busy laughing at Rick's speech last night.
I saw Newt in my rear-view mirror this moring.
I hear another photo was taken of Mittens doing his laundry. This time he was found scrubbing the stains found on his underwear.
I also had a laugh when I read nis1 saying Mittens was releasing the hounds. I can see them all jumping off the roof of his car.
Good one.
Rambutt...are you trying to be funny?.......cause you're not.
Ramboet, very funny. :D
Bernanke told senators that he agrees with an analysis by the Congressional Budget Office that growth would slow to 1.1 percent next year if the so-called Bush tax cuts expire.
Say what?
He was most likely referring to the taxes on those making $250 K or less not those on the wealthy who would not have their spending power decreased in the least if they had to pay an additional 4-5%.
Sure. It'd increase taxes on 80% of Americans. That's going to slow you growth.
Now, instead, give reprieve to anyone making < 100K, and then up the AMT amount and bam. I balance it on the rich while giving breaks to the MC and Poor.
theotas - Here is what CBO says if all tax cuts stay in place:
If you care to read the full report:
http://www.cbo.gov/doc.cfm?index=12699
CBO’s alternative fiscal scenario shows the budgetary consequences of maintaining certain tax and spending policies that have recently been in effect. That scenario incorporates the following assumptions:
Under that alternative fiscal scenario, far larger deficits and much greater debt would result than are shown in CBO’s baseline. Deficits would average 5.4 percent of GDP over the 2013–2022 period, rather than the 1.5 percent reflected in CBO’s baseline projections. Debt held by the public would climb to 94 percent of GDP in 2022, the highest figure since just after World War II.
Thanks!
You all realized that if Santorum wins the presidency in 2012, you have no other alternative with your spouse except the missionary position. Other than the missionary position, you will be prosecuted with the fullest extend of the law
Not really true, chedar, but a Santorum administration would be a dark age for personal freedoms. His talk makes me think it would be much worse than GWB. Plus it would guarantee an all out war with Iran. That's a given. Would not take much to force Congress's hand with mismanagement in the region.
Sad maybe for you but the way the DOJ is attacking the freedom of speech of Christians I feel like i'm in the Coleseum waiting for the entrance of the lions.
I, for one, feel that your choice of activities in the bedroom are of absolutely no interest whatsoever, excepting for those present in your bedroom....and you know what? As long as it stays that way, knock your socks off (or whatever it is you prefer) However, I must say that I am tired of the Junior High references to sexual behavior as a talking point in a political discussion....Other people seem to be able to express their concerns about "personal freedoms" without TMO
Keep it up until the convention. I love watching this train wreck.
I wonder if George W. Bush will be welcome at the next Republican National Convention? I kind of doubt it. He wasn't welcome at the last one.
It was a stunning repudiation of Bishop ROMoNEY in Minnesota, Missouri, and Colorado.
PEOPLE POWER will win over MONEY POWER
THE PASSIONATE PEASANT AND NOT THE PLASTIC PRINCE WILL GET THE REPUBLICAN NOMINATION
I just hope the GOP establishment got the message with Rick Santorum. We conservatives aren't going to sit back and let BIG MONEY dictate to us.
"The more confidence the strong conservatives have in the alternative candidates, the more Romney's lack of strength in those categories starts to show itself," said Iowa Rep. Steve King, a conservative who has been publically neutral in the nomination race.
SANTORUM IS THE NEXT PRESIDENTE OF USA !!
Santorum stronger than ROMoNEY agaist obama- Per Rasmussen poll.
Rick Santorum is the ONLY contender that will have a victory over OBAMA !!
OBAMA IS INTRUSIVE AND BELIEVES THAT WE NEED to BE LEAD BY THE NOSE .
WE ARE FREE AMERICANS ! THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE IS THE VOICE OF GOD !
Copied
eddie
What could be more intrusive than dragging a woman into court to inquire into the medical details of her miscarriage?
Alrighty then... have your entire family pay for their birth control out of your pocket.
Pay for your college son's health insurance policy independently.
Give back the rebate to help buy your new car 1 1/2 years ago...and so on and so on.
Maybe giving a teenage kid in Midland a list of 15 phrases he can't use in his graduation speech including the ever so radical "can we have a moment of silence"
Ricky Santimonium's support for the "Conception Person" was rejected by the "liberal" voters in Mississippi because it is totally unworkable. (Is a miscarriage a felony?) Yet Ricky clings to it as a wedge issue to distinguish himself from Mitter and President Obama.
Fox news does not have a word about last nights caucus or the Santorum sweep in their blog site "Election Headquarters" and I'm curious about the reason they haven't.
Pitny,
Go to politics, its the first story.
Thanks...I didn't know it had a blog type setup.
I’m beginning to think that President Obama has several of the top Democratic operatives working inside the GOP camp. If the Democrats scripted this they couldn’t have done any better. Romney’s numbers are going down, Newt is one of the most un-liked people in the nation, Santorum is a religious fanatic who was booted out of office by more than a 2 to 1 margin in his home states and believes that states have the right to outlaw birth control. (That should get him about 3% of the women in the nation to support him.) Meanwhile –as this Republican food fight continues – the President’s approval rating keeps going up. This is a dream come true for Democrats.
I agree, I think Romney lost a lot of ground on the "Fanatical religious right issue of birth control" The funny thing is, 50% of catholic women want birth control. This issue also clearly illustrates why we must never again let any of these radical fundamentalist republicans get back in power. Romney Gingrich and the rest of this crowd are no better than the bigotted Imams of Islamic fundamentalism. How dare they say that a womans right to birth control is wrong or that atheists are not to be trusted. It kinda makes me wish there was a hell so they could all burn in it!
Red Sailor I would accept your premise if the liberals weren't guilty of doing the same thing to the opposition you decry in the GOP candidates. The first amendment for christians is almost non-existent in todays America.
lonerub, the first amendment is all about seperation of church and state/freedom of/from religion. First Amendment doesn't give the Christian bigots the right to discriminate and oppress based on their stupid fairy tales
None of the current list of GOP clowns will win the nomination. The nominee will come out of the convention with back room dealings.
OK, I'll remember you said this so you can have "I told you so" rights.
See you after the convention.
What is Rick Santorum's position on capital punishment; he supports it - right?
Please send a lot of your money to Santorum asap. Thanks.
LOL ... do they have any left after they sent it all to Palin ?
Still waiting for someone to vote for. One thing is for I do know we dont need a bible thumper in the white house. I dont need the church to tell me how to live nor how to run this country.
Willard was on the evening news talking his father's job as a carpenter...said he use to put nails in his mouth and shoot them out....Mittens, who cares about that! This guy is not only corny, he's a big phony. A few years ago, he was shooting "varmits".
One thing is for sure...anything McCain, Trump or Palin touch now turns to ________!
Still waiting for someone to vote for. Is all thet could come up with? And we sure dont need a bible thumper in the white house much less running the country. Santorum is no better than the rest. Dont be fooled.
Safest bet is Obama.
@ PTNY: Not if you're a white Christian male that believes in the Constitution of the United States of America!!!!
Truthman,
I believe in the Constitution, too. But I can't find any reason to say that anything that Obama has done is unconstitutional. Do you have a particular decision that shows that Obama has violated a particular provision of our Constitution? How did the decision of which only you are aware violate the specific constitutional clause or section you believe has been infringed? I daresay that you know nothing about the Constitution, you just invoke it mindlessly to justify your political views.
Feeling a bit oppressed as a "white Christian male?" You just can't stand a black president who doesn't say the things you want him to say. It's called intolerance, truthie.
Michael L. Marowitz

Just LOLZ....very obtuse statement.....LOLZ
No christian can trust the Obama administration.
"No christian can trust the Obama administration."
I can't think of too many "Christians" I trust.
Evangelical christians are anyways bigots. So if they don't trust someone, it means that someone is damn good. :(
In all this does anyone know what types of jobs Romney created that were actually created in China? What type of company was it etc...
Staples and Sports Authority to name a few are in the United States don't you have any in your city. It's Apple who sold out to China.
Mitt's gonna spend ONE BILLION DOLLARS on this election and......
LOSE. :)
He's such a boob
