UPDATED 6:20 PM ET...
The game of Poker in Michigan between Romney and Santorum allies just got a little richer.
The pro-Romney Super PAC Restore Our Future just bought up almost another $1 million in ad time in Michigan, bringing its overall buy so far to about $3.2 million, according to NBC/Republican ad-tracking firm Smart Media Group Delta.
This follows the Santorum campaign pushing more of its own chips in, adding $438,000 in ads in Michigan for the next two weeks, closing the gap with Romney and his allies somewhat.
Those buys followed a big $652,000 ad buy made earlier by the pro-Santorum Super PAC Red White and Blue Fund -- financed largely by Santorum supporter Foster Freiss.
Here's the current overall Michigan spending:
Pro-Romney: $3.2 million (Romney campaign $1.2 million; Restore Our Future $2 million)
Pro-Santorum: $1.1 million (Santorum $480,000; Red, White, and Blue Fund: $655,000)
SOURCE: NBC/Smart Media Group Delta
Restore shelled out another $2 million for the week after next on broadcast in Arizona, Ohio, Georgia, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Tennessee, and Alabama. Restore has now crossed the $20 million threshold for total ad spending this campaign -- $20.8 million.
Romney's campaign has now spent $13.4 million, bringing pro-Romney spending to a grand total of $34.2 million.
The next closest is $7.8 million in pro-Gingrich ads ($5.1 from Winning Our Future and $2.7 million from the campaign); then it's $6.1 million for Ron Paul; and $4.2 million for Santorum ($2.1 million apiece for the campaign and Red, White, and Blue Fund).

Santorum was a lobbyist and is trying to avoid talking about it . It turns out he is just like Newt ! Once again this cult member is lying to the people and trying to create a theocracy ! A theocracy seems to be the GOPs plan for America !
That may be true, but I think there are enough godless liberals like me out there that'll keep them at bay.
Ursula That makes two of us.
I'd love to see Santorum trying to debate our President. Before he could open his frothy mouth the debate will be over. When our President steps on the stage and smiles the debate is over. Everyone knows that Sanatorium is a crazy theocrat.
Santorum doesn't stand a chance against President Obama on any level. Santorum is so far right and ridiculous he'll be laughed off the debate floor.
Santorum is just an uncompromising extremist. He in particular has succeeded in dragging this GOP primary to the very far right and Romney will hate him for this. This will make whoever wins too far away from the middle come November.........sure like that.
Just like Romney is the 1%, Santorum is the emblem of the scary crazy right.
InPs- The only thing more stupid than your post is that so many of the dimwit liberals here agree with you. So, does everybody here agree that Catholicism is a "cult?"
Most of you here are too stupid to notice that the rantings about "theocracy" etc...are just the flip side of the "Obama is a secret muslim" stuff we've heard for the last few years. It shows how unhinged and hypocritical you far-lefties are, but hell, you never let that stop you before!
What gets me is, most ordinary people lead pretty moral lives; we contribute to charities, care for our children, and pay our taxes properly, only right-wing politicians seem think this is unusual, and the fact they are religious qualifies them for public office. Excuse me, I think that's setting the bar rather low, since the very least one expects of a functioning citizen is that they don't steal, murder, commit adultery, abuse the Lord's name, or fail to care for their parents and children.
Damage123
Liberal stupid......naa. Why do the Catholic church or any religious institution think they should not obey the law of the land (Roman 13, 1-7) as instructed by God, yes, the God they worship. The problem for the church is that they've indulged in Politics. Jesus said spread the word and not impose the word.
Damage123
InPs- So, does everybody here agree that Catholicism is a "cult?" Yes they do and so does 88% of the people of the USA !
I am a religious liberal and have always been grateful for the separation of church and state. I like being free to go to my church and worship as I believe. I don't want to have to follow the tenets of anyone else's religion. I also recognize that some follow no religion and I respect that, as I hope they respect my views. Why is this such an issue after over 200 years?!
Steeler Fan- Please tell me when, at any time, has anyone told you that you can't go to your church and worship as you believe? When has ANYONE even suggested that you "have to follow the tenets of anyone else's religion?"
If I came on here whining "oh it's sooo horrible...Obama's a muslim and he wants to convert us all....", you'd think I was a delusional idiot and I would be. So why, WHY do we see such fear-filled posts day after day on here of people claiming they are under some sort of religious persecution?
I understand that you people, as liberals, have a deep need to feel oppressed all the time by something or somebody, but your whining is ridiculous.
Rick if he had he own way would force all Americans to follow Catholic religious doctrine of no birth control and he somehow believes this is religious freedom. Right now the state of Virginia controlled by republicans are passing the bill to outlaw birth control right now and the governor says he will sign it.
A vote for any republican is a vote to take your rights away.
America was formed by those escaping religious repression and written in our constitution is freedom from religion as well as freedom of religion.
When did religious freedom become the republicans right to tell us what to do with our own bodies?
er, Damage, the latest Republican talking point is that Obama is conducting a war against religion. Take your questions about what constitutes religious persecution and ask the Republicans.
Damage123
"I understand that you people, as liberals, have a deep need to feel oppressed all the time by something or somebody, but your whining is ridiculous".
You're not getting it. Why do you think some of us here are not liberal Catholics or born again Christians? Am a proud Liberal and a very religious (not severe) Christian.
Your charges are pathetic.
"So, does everybody here agree that Catholicism is a 'cult?'"
As a matter of fact, yes. A cult that protects and hides its evil pederast clergy even as the church preaches loudly against the use of even the most basic methods of birth control that would also protect people around the world from AIDS and other infectious STDs.
If you want to mindlessly follow the hateful doctrines of your cult, please go ahead. Just don't hold it up as a model of morality and human decency for the rest of us to follow.
Religion is a private, personal matter that has no place in American politics. It is shameful that the GOP and its brainless minions seem to keep bringing it up over and over again as though it has some relevance to the election. Desist, already!
Let's see.
I would say any republican trying to make abortions illegal in the name of religion.
I would say any republican trying to make birth control illegal in the name of religion.
I would say any republican trying to close down family planning in the name of religion.
I would say any republican trying to overturn Roe v Wade in the name of religion. Romney has stated his goal is to overturn Roe v Wade.
So Damage, how is this not religion trying to force us all into following Catholic doctrine whether we want to or not?
Uh oh, Now you've done it... Quoting the Bible to RWNJs does no good. They only prescribe to the parts that suit their needs.
Who's whining? Damage, You seem to think that your attack dog mode will change someones view of liberals. Whenever one of us posts a fact that you try to dispute with your brand of slanted logic I just laugh. Nice try but no cigar.
Well that's what it seems like. Sorry, but I don't need a mediator between myself and Jesus. Thanks for asking...
I would hope that killing your baby is frowned upon in all religions AND by Atheists. But that hope would be wrong. If legal abortion ever was overturned by the SCOTUS, it would then be left up to the individual states most likely. Somehow, liberals found a clause in the Constitution relating to abortion. I've read through it a hundred times and I can't find it but I'll keep looking.
""
I would say any republican trying to make birth control illegal in the name of religion.
I would say any republican trying to close down family planning in the name of religion.
I would say any republican trying to overturn Roe v Wade in the name of religion. Romney has stated his goal is to overturn Roe v Wade."""
So you're saying these things are all being done in the name of religion? You sure it's not just because the people doing it are conservative? Funny how you people will rail all day against "religion" but will DEMAND that a mosque be built near Ground Zero.
The whole confession thingy always baffled me...
Why does there have to be a 'middle man' between someone & their God?
Damage123
Do not judge anyone so that the God you profess won't judge you. The God you profess do not hate any of His creation. The God you profess is love..........Preach that.
Good news is, maybe a lot of liberals will leave the state of Virginia. Girls who feel they are being denied their "right to have as much casual sex as they want without any consequences" will have to live elsewhere. Might make the single bars a little less fun, though.
Damage, you ask when was the last time someone was denied the right to go to church?
Well, if anyone has any doubts as to the motives of the rightwing, Republican, Teagagging movement to take away your right to practice the religion of your choice then read House Resolution No. 535 from Pennsylvania. It should send chills down the spine of any freedom-preserving american:

nation and our national need to study and apply the teachings of
the holy scriptures.
Devie, Feisty....you both nailed it on the priest, confession thing!
...So the priest is the mediator of all things evil......punishment?...say a few Hail Marys and all is forgiven, by the priest.
I wonder when is the last time Newt or Santorum went to confession!
I don't intend to offend anyone, but.......
Than they say there's a war on religion. The war is forcing it on everyone who wants it or not.
As a Catholic I must defend my faith against those who lie about it. Catholicism is not a cult. I am amused when people who belong to some small 50 person congregation thinks they are the only people who will go to heaven on judgement day and anyone who dares to disagree with them is a cult member.
I am conservative on some political issues and liberal on others but generally leaning a tad more liberal. Most American Catholics practice contraception. Eventually our church will come around but things take time. After all it took centuries for the church to agree that the world wasn't flat. People who have never been Catholic or even attended a mass have no clue what it is all about but they sure think they do.
Many of our earliest ancestors came to America to avoid religious persecution in Europe. The founders were of different faiths and they realized that any one faith as a national faith such as the Episcopal Church (Anglican) was in England would not be acceptable and they made sure that religion and affairs of state were separated. In The USA we have the right to worship or not as we see fit. There has always been a descrimination against Catholics, Jews, and Mormons in this country but we've kept it largly in communities instead of in government and it needs to stay that way.
I am not proud of the things some of the leaders of my church have done but my faith is strong enough and I know that not everyone is like that. We are more upset by priests molesting children, for example, than non-Catholics are.
The Catholic Church (Catholic means universal) was the original Christian church and from that came Orthodox and Protestant Churches. I don't begrudge anyone their beliefs. There are Protestants in my family and we love them as much as the Catholics. We also have some who are agnostic.
Antidisestablishmententerianism has been the practice in the US since the beginning and should remain so.
Rick Santorum wants to cram his beliefs down the throats of others. As a Catholic he and I share some of the same beliefs but I, unlike him, don't advocate cramming my beliefs down the throats of others. Our church has done that in the past and it was shameful.
I believe it was Ayn Rand who said that when Fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in a flag and carrying a Bible. Some of our extreme right wing friends seem to meet that requirement whether indended or not. Mr. Santorum does seem to want that. I don't and neither do most Americans.
Santorum may win his party's nomination because the more obviously objectionable Romney doesn't appeal to the extremists in control of the Republican party. If so, President Obama will win reelection by a landslide. If Romney should happen to win because saner heads prevail in the GOP/TP than Obama will win but by a closer margin. The agenda of today's Republican party is far to extreme for most folks.
Then there is this found on Fark with the headline of "In Case you were wondering if the Religious Left is as loony as the Religious Right, Yep it is"

".....Santorum was a lobbyist and is trying to avoid talking about it . It turns out he is just like Newt ! Once again this cult member is lying to the people and trying to create a theocracy ! A theocracy seems to be the GOPs plan for America ! .........."
Why don't we examine some of the lies Obama told during the campaign in 2008; he said he wanted to get lobbyists and corporate money out of campaigns in Washington DC. Then he turned around and arranged for hundreds of millions of dollars worth of federally guaranteed loans to Solyndra, a major contributor to his 2008 Presidential Campaign AND he arranged for a multiple-million-dollar NO BID contract for another major contributor, Selig Technology. (Never mind the fact that he promised to put all federal contracts over $25,000.00 out for bid when he was running for President.)
Not to mention the fact that he has decided to take Super PAC money for his campaign this year.
But, in your eyes it's only a lie when a republican says it. Take a good look in your own backyard nps.
I got news for all of you people that are saying that catholisism is a cult, so is mormonism. So we have at least 3 cultists running for the nomination.
The middle man gets to keep 15%. God needs priests to count the change.
baldeagle11
I sure stand with you.
Damage123: You apparantly aren't even capable of realizing what imposition of your religion IS. For instance, you obviously consider abortion "murder" and you obviously feel (again wrongly) that everyone agrees with you. Not only are you wrong, but you are not free to impose your religious view of zygotes as "babies", or women as mere incubators waiting for government instruction on others. You and Santorum are almost laughable in your view that no one can touch the constitution, except those who want it to somehow exclude women under the right to privacy. No, the Catholic church or any other may not force laws on women to prohibit their use of birth control either. Several states (like S. Dakota) have gotten around the constitutional right to privacy by making abortion simply unavailable to women--and there are states that would be first in line with "personhood" amendments designed to prevent women from getting contraceptives, or in the case of Tennessee, actually make women prove that miscarriage was unintentional and not "murder". That old saw of "state's rights" is exactly what it's always been...a thinly veiled excuse to rob individuals of their rights granted under the US constitution by imposing state laws on them instead. This kind of lunacy in the 21st century is why the Republican party is doomed to yet another failure...You at least might have attracted some independents when your party was still finger wagging about FISCAL responsibility...remember those days?
in PS
Immpossible!
YOUR VOICE is being taken away and that is the real point of this article.
If advertising didn't work, nobody would do it. And with the millions being spent in ANONYMOUS money by our corporations are people government (according to the Suprem Court, not Mitt Romney), your vote and voice get marginalized at every turn.
Republican? You should be rioting over SuperPACs
Democrat? You should be rioting over SuperPACs
Since everyone is happy getting fatter every day and doing nothing, the only conclusion to draw is every point of view here expressing anger at an opposing party is a giant fraud on the part of the poster.
Stop being a fraud and do something about SuperPACs. And stop being stark raving fanbois/girls, of one party. You are being robbed by your political allies, not just your political enemies.
The problem with Rick Santorum is NOT that he Catholic. The problem he's a religious fanatic. And remember -- the people in PA tossed him out by more than a 2 to 1 margin. Rick is the dream candidate -- for Democrats.
Baldeagle
You shouldn't have defend your faith, but it sure feels like it when Liberals are in total control!
The same people get upset if someones says "abortion is should be illegal" don't get upset when a federal employ takes a 4 year-old's lunch away because it doesn't meat Michelle's specification. I for one would like see that same federal employee take the kobe beef off the president's plate!
Count me in!
To cut unemployment?
That's a joke, by the way. I'm waiting for the godly to spin it as an issue.
When we consider the economy we must realize that several months in a row the new claims for unemployment are down and more people are getting jobs. GM has record profits and are paying us back for the money we loaned them. They are also rewarding their rank and file for the sacrifices and hard work they have given the company. There are also fewer government employees today than there were in January 2009. So anyone who says that the government and spacifically the Obama Administration is for growing the government have not been paying attention to facts. Perhaps they have been listening to the propagandists at FOX. While it isn't growing as fast as we might like the economy is recovering. It took government programs (later turned over to private industry) to recover from the great depression. Similar programs would speed up the current recovery. The Republicans fought tooth and nail to stop things like WPA and CCC but President Roosevelt and the Democrats prevailed ending the depression. Much of the infrastructure today such as the highway system can be credited to Republican President Dwight Eisenhower who is likely turning over in his grave over his party's support for the military-industrial complex. He saw it in Europe and didn't want it here. Hitler made much of the military -industrial complex, we all know how that turned out for Der Fürher, don't we. When industry and government work together for the benefit of both we all benefit but if government works only for industry or industry works only for the government the nation suffers.
I fully agree with your comment baldeagle, except for that first line. You do not have to defend your faith any more than I have to defend mine, or should I say my lack of one.
I believe that in essence we all have a personal and individual faith that is unique to each of us. No one will ever believe exactly what you believe, no matter if they sat next to you in church every Sunday of your lives. If your faith is strong, no one will be able to talk you out of it. If your faith is weak-- or if it is just handed down from your parents-- you owe it to yourself to examine if it fits your sense of logic and if it really helps you to be a more kind, moral person.
Americans are free to believe whatever they choose about religion, as long as they do not try to impose their beliefs on others or use them as an excuse to break the law.
Your church has been attacked a lot, granted, but not without valid reasons. Pedophilia, discrimination against women, discrimination against LGBT people...if Catholics want to have a future for their church then it is incumbent on them to demand the church follow the teachings of Christ, rather than merely pay lip service to them.
I don't want Santorum in my state. I don't want Santorum any where near me. Santorum is gross.
HEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEEEEEEE....
x
I don't see how any woman at all could vote for Santorum after his "a rape baby is a gift" remark...
disgusting.
Obama / Biden 2012!!
Maybe Santorum has never been raped.
Or become pregnant as a result.
Damage -...."we'd think you were a delusional idiot." Hmmmmmmm.
Baldeagle - good post.
I just read where several female Republican politicians walked out of a meeting about birth control because only the men were allowed to make comments. Did we not see this coming?????
"You shouldn't have defend your faith, but it sure feels like it when Liberals are in total control!"
So the incessant squabbling among the GOP candidates over their irrelevant religious affiliations is somehow the fault of imaginary liberals? Religion should be a non-issue with regard to a presidential election, period. If the subject is rightfully slapped down when it is unnecessarily raised, it is the fault of the party or their brainless minions who bring it up if it is summarily broomed out of a discussion.
Who cares what cult or religion it is to which a candidate belongs...if, indeed, they belong to any religion...as long as he or she is a qualified candidate? The GOP is hopelessly mired in the irrelevant nonsense of religion and cannot break out of their fixation with it in order to address genuine issues. That is part of the reason no normal person takes them or their bizarre right wing christian craziness seriously.
I suppose DB Akron will blame the liberals when the Republicans are buried in the upcoming presidential election, too. I mean, damn.
More like 45 million of us "unbelievers". Add in all the religious minorities that don't want to be oppressed by the "Christian majority" (neither Christian nor a majority, BTW), and I do believe we would have sufficient clout to keep them at bay.
That was Sinclair Lewis, not Ayn Rand.
CM, you are right. It was Sinclair Lewis. I stand corrected. Thank you.
Arguing that the religious right trying to outlaw abortion and contraception is equal to Muslims having a right to build a mosque near ground zero is a ridiculous argument. If it is about freedom, catholics and fundamentalists already have the right to not have an abortion or use birth control. People, by that same measure, should be able to build a mosque near ground zero.
The right would, however, deny the rights of two groups, those who want to use contraception, and those who want to buld the mosque. They are in favor of oppression on both counts, not freedom of religion.
The reason that Romnut is failing is because people are starting to realize what a spinless little worm he is
Mittens Rob-us-blind Flip Flop, the 1%'er actually 0.006% CORPERTE RAIDER and one time governor of Liberal Mass but now he is an arch conservative. Has supported Abortion, Gay Rights, Gun Control, Stem Cell Research and has reverse himself on all of these issues.
He took both sides on the financial bailout, the stimulus bill, the auto loan package;
His biggest Flip-Flop of all Health Care Reform The national Law is modeled on the one that he championed as governor in Mass that requires every citizen to have health insurance. Now he has Flipped-Flopped. Mr. Flop has taken a hard slide to the right pandering and boot licking to the tea party.
Mitt Flip-Flop Rob-us-blind, a wishy-washy, flip flopping spineless politician without any core convictions, principals or believes a man who will say or do anything to get elected telling one crowd one thing and another crowd another. You simply can’t trust this guy to tell you the truth.
The only good thing that would happen if Flip-Flop were to get elected It would prove that Conservatism is dead as Flip-Flop would stab the Conservatives in the back.
Mitt Flip Flop Romney LMAO
baldeagle11:
Quick correction, the Orthodox and Catholic Churches are, according to this pope, the only true and legitimate religious institutions on the planet, because only those two can trace their heritage all the way back to an Apostle. They excommunicated each other for a variety of reasons (and a couple of different times), but one of the big ones, was because Rome suddenly decided that priests couldn't be married since the church was losing land to the offspring of the clergy. In the Orthodox religion, priests still get married and for the longest time (way before Martin) preached in the native tongue of the local villagers.
Bald Eagle - Sorry to dispute you but Ayn Rand was not that astute
"When and if fascism comes to America it will not be labeled 'made in
Germany'; it will not be marked with a swastika; it will not even be called
fascism; it will be called, of course, 'Americanism'" – An uncredited New York
Times reporter covering Halford E. Luccock in an article published September 12,
1938. Luccock was a Professor at Yale Divinity School
It later was attributed at a shorter version to Sinclair Lewis
Does anyone KNOW??? Has Santorum signed the "so-called" "Norquist Pledge"???
We have a fascist dictator in the white house right now. Your all complaining about a "cult leader"? Sen Ted Kennedy was in the KKK, and you liberals said nothing! JFK was a Catholic and he was a great President. Why do you liberals hate america? America was founded on christian values and the Constitution was written with ideas from the bible. Oh wait, the liberals hate the Constitution too.
Like many others here, I find it ridiculously easy to discount Rick Santorum and to believe that there is no possibility that American voters (outside the crazy primaries) would let him within a mile of the White House, but, I then have to remember that something like 45 million people thought that Sarah Palin was executive material. So, we have to avoid cockiness or complacency, please!
Obama/Biden 2012
I hear you, Karen C.
The negative things about Santorum are: he served in the U.S. Senate, so he has a record that can be used to discredit him. He was soundly defeated by another conservative for his Senate seat. The Republican establishment isn't behind him; his positions on separation of church and state, contraception, and military intervention with Iran are well outside the mainstream. He has earned the ire of the LGBT voters with his anti-gay attitude. Santorum has spent the years since he lost his Senate seat working as a lobbyist, same as Gingrich.
I agree it is important not to be complacent. But when voters take a closer look at Santorum, they are going to be turned off by his positions. He should move to Alaska and run for governor. The bar is set really low there.
DB: way off point...but what's with all the hatred of the first Lady? You do know there's no law taking anyone's McDonald"s away? She encourages healthy eating....that's all. Did you get this upset when Nancy Reagan told kids just say no to drugs? Was that big bad government interfering? My gosh...Ladybird's love of planting flowers would have REALLy thrown you into a tizzy!
Wake up
Where do you get your"Facts" from Rush or Fox or??? You are one of the country's biggest Problems...lack of an education And common sense.
kaybeetoys, I agree with all of the points that you made, but, I was gobsmacked when Scott Brown won the election in Massachusetts and I believe it was due to complacency and cockiness.
Complacency and cockiness could spell disaster...so I may be cocky but I'm sure not complacent.
Just out of curiosity, how are the people of Massachusetts liking Scott Brown these days?
No, that's 'Santorum', I believe...
I have a general question for all the Fox news haters out there. Do you hate Fox news because it is the only network not bought and paid for by the liberal Democrat agenda? (Yes/No)
Be intellectually honest for one second! MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, HLN, ESPN, all have a liberal bias. You cannot argue with the fact that sports media has a liberal bias.
I for one cannot watch Fox News because I find it sophomoric and has no substance.
I have not been able to watch faux news since I watched them push lies and fear to entice the people into a war in Iraq.
I watched the full speeches of the weapons inspectors and then watched faux totally twist (lie about) the entire speech to push their pro-war stance.
I then got rid of my cable as I refused to pay any network to out and out lie to me.
Obama/Biden 2012
Consider the economy we must realize that propaganda from a few months in a row of new claims for unemployment are down when realisticly the economy is far from in good shape. Our credit was not downgraded for a short view. The current administration is a copy of the former administrations yes still the same pig just with lipstick. It doesnt matter republican or democrat they are all spending our money like drunken sailors and unless we start taking the power away we all our going to continue to suffer unless you are in the super power or super rich circles. Obviously I am not in the super group or wouldnt be complaining here aye! I here some one say well GM is paying money back-NO WAY- Thats rhetoric to hide the truth-The real story is in the research and all the many ways money and relief went to GM and its rank and file. Yes the payolla to the Unions-the free services rendered-the tax relief-its all wrapped up in a nice American Taxpayer bill that will never be fully paid. Then the bailout of the banks makes that one look like kids play. But there are so many more crazy expenditures with this administration beyond the past. I dont think Obama is any worse than Bush, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter etc. etc. They all have spun their deceipt and spent foolishly. Its just the bar keeps getting raised and now new precedence is set and here we go to a new level of taxpayers paying the bill for government abuse.
How do we change it! Throw every incumbant out of office! Every Office everywhere! Its like killing bugs! Erradicate the pests! Eliminate the career politician! Vote every incumbant out and we will eradicate the problem! The people can get the power back and will have citizen politicians that will understand and represent us! Then you will see spending drop, debt eliminated and competitiveness of American business protected!
I here you say there are fewer government employees today than there were in January 2009. That would be true if you just look at federal workers directly employeed-however the truth is there are agreater number of contract employees by far than ever before and the number of local/state workers subsidized by the federal government than ever before. This combined makes the greatest number of federal paid workers ever and the amounts being spent are staggering. Those that only bury there heads in their democrat or republican parties crevices and fail to see reality miss the fact that our government is a scam on the tax payer. To compare this economy to the great dpression for a guide to how to recover is pure ignorance similar to comparing a Model T Ford to a New Tesla Roadster. If one believes one party or another is behind the industrial-military complex then a fools life you will lead. It is all the same parlor trick it just has a different staging from one party to another. Has Obama done anything that was not planned by the previous Bush Military Monster-The answer is no-but they say it is different-I am not a fool- we are doing the same thing we did before- This g=overnment is running a scam- look at import of heroin since the taliban left control of Afghanistan and American Military took over- Fact U>N Reports every year- Taliban pre-US invasion less than 2% of Worlds supply of opium from Afghanistan- Fact U.N. report- Mre than 97% of Worlds supply of opium from US controlled Afghanistan- Check it out.
People stop the madness grab back our country- stop letting slick talking politicians get you angry over a inflammatory issue and sway you against a candidate-vote all incumbants out and we will regain our power of the people- we can get rid of career politics and stop getting 10% OF OUR CONCERNS HANDLED WE WILL GET 80-90% OF OUR CONCERNS TAKEN CARE OF. we will always have disagreements over little nuances. But the big things need to go the peoples way - not controlled by the powers of greed and the industrial military monsters in power now.
ok

"Good news is, maybe a lot of liberals will leave the state of Virginia. Girls who feel they are being denied their "right to have as much casual sex as they want without any consequences" will have to live elsewhere. Might make the single bars a little less fun, though."
So you finally admit it. It's not really about the baby, the mother, or anything like that. It's because you disapprove of casual sex and simply see having the baby and raising it is 'just' punishment?
Witness the hypocrisy that is the GOP
Republicans want smaller government (except military and contraception)
Republicans want the deficit reduced (except when it comes to giving their masters (the Bush) tax cuts)
Republicans want tax cuts (except for the Middle Class)
Republicans want religious freedom (but only for their religion all Muslims are obviously terrorists)
Republicans want to destroy unions (because they are a major source of income for democrats)
Republicans want to destroy the teaching profession (making the populace dumber so they can continue to spin their lies, not to mention plenty of tools in case they want to start a war in Iran)
We know who you work for, and we're not buying your dog and pony show anymore.
In the meantime, it is being reported by the L.A. Times, Willard is going to outspend little Ricky 40:1 in
Willard brings a semi-automatic & little Ricky show up with a squirt gun!
Too freakin funny!
Edit; In the meantime, it is being reported by the L.A. Times, Willard is going to outspend little Ricky 40:1 in Michigan over the next 10 days!
stimulating the economy
Newt's billionnaire gave him $10 million; Santorum's billionnaire seems to be a little cheaper---I think he has chipped in about a million so far. I have always hoped that there was a limit to how many negative ads a campaign could run before people got turned off by the candidate---apparently 16 to 1 in Florida wasn't enough. Maybe 40 to 1 in Michigan will show us the limit.
It would be a hoot if Mitt loses to Romney here in Michigan. He probably won't since his buddy Snyder endorsed him. Right to Work? Union Bashing? Whatever. Who in the hell thinks that will work in the general election? Good Luck with that Mitt.
I don't know Devie - Nikki Haley sure didn't do Willard any favors in SC! lol
Steeler Fan -
Wow - there are people out there who can make it through 16 ads before turning? They're obviously made of stronger stuff than I am. I stop listening to anything they have to say after the first one - unless of course, the first one includes the word "Obamacare", in which I don't even last the whole 15 seconds!
As I've been posting for the past 15 months, there is only ONE WAY that we will ever end this type of campaigning. Everyone needs to get involved in the Popular Amendment Movement and help complete the petition process for the two constitutional amendments posted at faircampaignreform(dot)us. Download the petitions, sign them, circulate them among family, friends, neighbors, co-workers. Start a local grassroots organization and a state-wide group to get enough signatures in your state to meet the petition requirements of your Secretary of State.
Petition for US Constitutional Amendment For Election Reform
We, the undersigned US citizens, duly registered voters in our respective states/territories, do hereby petition for our state to approve the following amendment to the United States Constitution by the method noted below.
Election Reform:
1. Abolish the Electoral College (Repeal Amendment 12)
2. ONE NATIONAL primary date to be held on the Tuesday eight (8) weeks prior to the General Election day for Congressional offices and for the President. Candidate petitions must be filed with the local/state elections boards 60 days prior to the Primary Election date. Federal election petitions shall be uniform in every state and shall include a “contract with the voters” that spells out clearly what that candidate stands for on all issues that they may have to address in elected office. They shall be held accountable in court for breach of that contract if elected and any/all terms are not met.
3. NO campaigning allowed for any elective federal office more than 60 days prior to the National Primary Date.
4. NO campaign contribution shall be donated to any candidate of more than $200 from an individual or $500 maximum from a family (spouses/children living in the same household.) No donations shall be made to a candidate more than sixty days prior to the primary date. No candidate shall contribute from their own funds more than 60% of the total donations from other private individuals.
5. NO campaign contribution from any PAC, corporation, union, non-profit organization, special interest group, etc. shall be allowed for any elected federal office.
6. NO third party campaigning (separate PAC ads, corporate ads, etc.) for/against any candidate shall be allowed at any time during or before the election season.
7. NO party conventions shall be held to select the presidential candidates. The selection must be done at the ballot box in the primary election.
8. The One Man/One Vote Supreme Court ruling shall be enforced by this Amendment, namely that NO federal candidate selection shall be by any means other than the ballot box on Primary/General Election Dates.
9. National Party Organizations shall NOT raise money for or donate to specific candidates of their party prior to the dates outlined above.
10. PAC’s shall NOT be granted tax-exempt status by the IRS, and any non-profit organization who uses their funding for political purposes shall lose their tax-exempt status.
11. All lobbyists shall be outlawed from influencing Congress at all times.
This amendment shall be approved ONLY by State Constitutional Conventions to be called within 90 days of this petition being submmitted to a state’s Secretary of State. A minimum of 25% of the registered voters in each state shall be required to further this petition to the respective Secretary of State.

Term Limits for Congress:
1. Representatives to Congress shall serve no more than two two-year terms in the House.
2. Senators shall be elected to no more than two six year terms in the Senate.
3. No elected official shall serve more than six terms in office in any combined elected offices (House/Senate/Presidency.)
This amendment shall be approved ONLY by State Constitutional Conventions to be called within 90 days of this petition being submmitted to a state’s Secretary of State. A minimum of 25% of the registered voters in each state shall be required to further this petition to the respective Secretary of State.

No, anti-trust -
A simple majority is one of the favorite tools of dictators and in our country, only California, New York, and Florida would be what is left of the Union.
the only way to stop it is supporting the person attacked or neither if both are paticipating. That may be what is going on with the Republican nomination process.
That doesn't stop the third party undocumented financing advertising. I know many don't support the first section, but that is up to the state constitutional conventions to determine. We definitely need to end the Citizen's United ruling through a constitutional amendment, and we need to ban any campaign contributions from any source other than individual/family limited donations. And we need to ban lobbyists from Congress. Since the SCOTUS passed the one man/one vote rule, that is actually the reason for section 1 however. The outmoded Electoral College violates that one man/one vote since each state has its own method of selecting the delegates to the Electoral College.
Santorum may dribble a bit with minor blunders, but Willard keeps shooting himself in the foot!
I'm predicting that Mitt won't be so popular in his old "home state", he'll loose to Santorum, and maybe even Ron Paul! It'll be a battle between Newt and Mitt for 4th place...
...but NOT the voters. *yawn*
What's the difference between Rommel and Romney ? Sixty years, and only 1 of them was a veteran. What's difference between Romney and Santorum ? Ony one of them has white sideburns. What's the difference between Obama and Romney and or Santorum. Obama may be a secret Muslem. Everything is a secret about Romney and Santorum.
I've been thinking about something for some time, and maybe this is the right place to post this, maybe not, but here goes.
How much of the money the PACs spend on commericals actually comes back to the PAC funders pockets? Here's what I mean.
ABC is owned by Disney. But, I believe that ABC not only owns the network, but owns many stations directly. So, let's say someone working for Disney contributes to a PAC. The PAC buys commercials to aid its candidate. It buys from stations that are owned by Disney. Disney gets the money back, then pays it out to the personel who contributed to the PAC to begin with.
Now lest anyone think that I am picking on ABC, I might point out that GE also owns a network (or two or three. I've forgotten which ones.) and also owns many stations. So the station prorgrams have some sort of slant to help GE, especially those that show an aging armed services material and how much we need new fighter planes.
Anyway, I 'm really curious as to how much of the cost of all the advertising actually ends up back in the pocket of those who purchase it. Anyone know?
All this fighting amongst the republicans to see who will get to be No 2 in November. It's always interesting to watch sharks feed.
A previous article laid out the number of days each candidate spent in the state leading up to their caucus or primary. I think it'd be interesting to summarize that along with their spending and tie it up with a "who won the contest" bow! Or better yet, how much time and money per vote?
I would like to see that myself.
The next 30 days is going to be very entertaining. Who will win, Little Ricky Santorum or Flip Romney?
The next 12 days...
One certainty is that "Little Ricky" won't win Virginia.
...neither will Newt.
Newt will get himself a BJ from the underage daughter of a supporter in the Arlington National Cemetery car park and then claim a moral victory in Virginia.
What I want to know -- who is the next Republican flavor of the month after Rick Santorum crashes? Is it Ron Paul's turn or do we recycle back to Palin and start all over?
Charlie- NO! NO! NO! You said the "Palin" word! I'm now very nauseous!
I started seeing ads for mittens and rick yesterday. I'm in the Grand Rapids media market. so far....no negative ads for either. I know it's only a matter of time :(
You better make sure your haz-mat suit is handy!
You're gonna need it when the sh!t starts flying! ;o)
Any negative ads they make against each other are bound to show up later, being used by the Obama campaign, so you would think they would STOP that crap, but they are idiots!
ursula,
"How much money per vote?"
The Super Pacs , hire consultants who direct the ad buy. These folks get at least 10% of the total as their fee. Nice quick income of 100,000. off a Million ad buy. This is for a 10 day period. Then they move on to the next campaign buy.
Yes, it woud be too simple just to stand on a corner and give money away for a vote.
NorthstarDFL, interesting stats. When Rick Perry was campaigning in Iowa leading up to the caucus, he dropped a TON of cash so that his effective cost per vote was something like $300. I could be off, but it was crazy...
And then the "experts" wonder why they can't connect with the common folks.
As Sir Paul McCartney famously said:
"I don't care too much for money.....'cause money can't buy me love".
That should be Romney's new campaign theme song. Though I somehow suspect they'd get more bang for their buck with Northstar's more direct approach of handing out bills on the street corner. Of course, isn't that illegal most places because candidates used to slip drunks and bums a few bucks in exchange for a few minutes in the voting booth? So what's the moral here? That the more millions you spend, the more legal and ethical it becomes?
JoAnne---apparently the handing out money for votes thing worked just fine at CPAC last week. Jury is still out on whether it happened in Maine but you have to wonder.
Northstar - I think they're doing that too (the standing on the corner thing).
JoAnne, hun, it maybe can't buy love, but it can buy sex. That's close enuf.

I could tell Republicans how to win elections, if they would just listen to me.
a) if the Republican agenda is to be "strong on defense," you really need to run candidates who served in the military, especially if they were twenty somethings during the Vietnam War, when kids whose fathers were not senators got drafted and sent into combat.
b) if the Republican agenda is "we are more patriotic than you," then run candidates who have actually contributed to the country, like in community organising, instead of candidates who made a fortune giving speeches to partisan groups, or selling their influence in Washington as lobbyists.
c) if the Republican agenda is "free markets are the best answer to recovering from a recession," then attack the banks, investors, and company CEO's that ignored the signs of a housing bubble bust, and stop attacking teachers, the elderly, the poor and the sick, who had nothing to do with creating "split derivatives."
d) it's a little late, but after President Obama was elected you could have said "I stand with the President of the United States and will work with him to correct the problems that have developed over the last decade. I take responsibility for the failures of two terms of George W. Bush."
geeze Amy B ... asking for integrity during an election year? They've proven that it's a lot easier to just buy the votes (or hide/throw away in some instances). That really is a nice thought though. We can dream, can't we?
...It's a little late, but three years after President Obama was elected, you could say "I stand with the President of the United States whose radical economic policies are directly responsible for the worst recovery from an economic downturn in history. I take responsibility for the massive failures of the term of Barack Obama "
Dear Bob, it is your and the biased Republican press that Obama is a failure.
He is not and I still stand by him and the Democrates who still connect with the 99%, not the 1% that have not created jobs.
If President Obama's policies were a failure, I certainly would take responsibity for supporting him. However, I am pretty darn pleased with the fact he withdrew troops from Iraq, avoided sending troops to Libya, is on track to leave Afghanistan, has reformed health insurance regulations so you can't be dropped if you get sick, rescued the American automotive industry, addressed the housing crisis, improved our standing abroad, and executed Osama bin Laden.
Amy Amy Amy--Sheeple Amy
There are 98,250 troops in Afghanistan for 2012. My son and law and his F15 squadran from Mountain Home Idaho leave to go there in 15 days with their F-15's. Yes we are switching to a bombing heavy strategy to lower the number of feet on the ground for a spin of reduction for the sheeple. Why are we not out. We shouldnt be there-bring all our troops home accept what it takes to protect vital and critical shipping or oil flow interests or strategic points in the world and quit spending all that money to save people from their own stupidity and greed. If people rise up on their own and take over good for them we did it. We need to throw all politicians out and think of our own and make the other countries take care of their own. It will change the world for the better.

Truth, lies and Afghanistan
How military leaders have let us down
By LT. COL. DANIEL L. DAVIS
“Since June 2010, the unclassified reporting the U.S. does provide has steadily shrunk in content, effectively ‘spinning’ the road to victory by eliminating content that illustrates the full scale of the challenges ahead,” Cordesman wrote. “They also, however, were driven by political decisions to ignore or understate Taliban and insurgent gains from 2002 to 2009, to ignore the problems caused by weak and corrupt Afghan governance, to understate the risks posed by sanctuaries in Pakistan, and to ‘spin’ the value of tactical ISAF victories while ignoring the steady growth of Taliban influence and control.”
Wat's wrong Bob in VA #'s, you having a case of 'Selective Amnesia'? Or maybe its that you are so dizzy from all that 'spin' you used in your post.
You call the President's plans "radical economic policies..." and further go on to say that they "...are directly responsible for the worst recovery from an economic downturn in history."
Guess you missed the news that the so called economic downturn resulted in massive unemployment, housing foreclosures, and lost tax revenues.
Guess you missed that since taking office a little more than 37 months ago the President has presided over 23+ straight months of positive private sector job creation.
Guess you missed that since taking office the DJIA has gone from approximately 8,000 to an all time high of just over 12,800.
You anti-Obama supporters can choose to cherry-pick information if you want to, but the majority of Americans remember what course this country was on in January 2009; which political party was in the Presidency when the job losses, housing foreclosures, and DJIA dropped; and which political party has obstructed virtually every proposal the President has put forth for turning around this economy and the housing market since day one of his Presidency.
Keep spinning your view Bob in VA #'s, but don't think that you are going to convince any independent minded voter out there that the current crop of Republican presidential candidates will be able to defeat President Obama by using the ole' "...radical economic policies..." argument, or saying that things would have been better faster if only.......
Amy B:
7.0 - Best post of the day. HOWEVER - you don't really think the Republicans are going to suddenly discover integrity do you?
First Government doesnt create jobs accept to make bigger government bureacracy which just costs taxpayers excessive monies. There are but a few instances that the government has for an instance been competitively efficient compared to the private sector. Some of the biggest issues we ever face is the massive excess of government waste. I am just a country boy and not as smart as many of you Wall Street MBA's but dont try to tell me that it is good when the government spends my money to create a job.
Second, the economy as a whole has been losing jobs almost every single month since January 2008. According to a chart prepared by the Obama White House, there has been positive job growth in only one month during that period -- November 2009. I am not trying to say it is Obama that is at fault for all our woes. It is all the politicians we have had that are at fault for creating this mess and extending it.
Anyone even a child can research and find a long list of corruption on Obama and any of our other past Presidents. It is sickning what we have allowed to happen when we the people have the power to stop it. Absolutely Obama has not made anything better than the vial politics that preceeded him. He has spent our money like a drunken sailor. If I had a manager spending my companies money like he is they would be fired and if possible prosecuted. I can give you a list of sickening costs he has spent on luxeries, entertainment, fun, waste. That is just his but under him there are a list of government employees doing the same. It is not just him it has been all the people before him.
We can stop it-vote them all out. Every incumbant goes take back our power- when we have one term politicians things will get uncomplicated and the power shifts to the people. Thats right solve the problem Sheeple-stop insanity nay sayers- lets do something responsible.
Nope. They lost that sometime after Eisenhower left office.
Have every drive on a public road or highway? Or the Hoover Dam/ What about the TVA? Or maybe the REA? How about Military bases or equipment? Come on. It's called government contractors.
@ Devie/David Walker Not like the fine city of Chicago have discovered integrity with all those Democrats huh.

We need to stop kidding ourselves, there are unethical people on both sides of the aisle.
Amy, Rebuttal to your Post at 7.4:
1) Obama withdrew the troops from Iraq in accordance with the agreement signed by the Bush Administration and the Iraqi government. Obama tried to negotiate a deal to keep several thousand troops in Iraq but was denied by the Iraqi government.
2) As far as Afghanistan, President Obama sent an extra 60K troops to Afghanistan. More American service men have been killed and wounded during Obama's 3 years in office than in the 6 years of Bush's participation in Afghanistan. His recent announcement of troop withdrawn was strictly a political ploy and not a military one.
3) Reformed Health Insurance (ACA) waiting for a decision from the Supreme Court as to the constitutionality of the Act. Still a majority of American people do not like it and wants the Act repealed.
4) As far a rescuing the Auto Industry, that is debatable as a lot of economist and others agree that GM and Chrysler would have done as good by filing a Chapter 11 BK like any other corporation. The biggest winners in the bail out was the UAW Union. The government still owns about 23% of GM.
5) Addressed the Housing crisis, that's a joke, if anything he has made it worse. The government should have stayed out of it and the housing market would have corrected itself, just like the several housing slumps in the past 30 yrs. Realtytrac states there will be a 25% increase in foreclosures this year. This latest agreement with the 5 banks will do little if anything to help the market.
6) He gave the order to capture or kill OBL which is different than an execution. However, the order was political, since President Bush had already signed an order to capture or kill OBL, so the military really didn't need Obama's permission. Further to tape the assault and killing of OBL and making it public was really tacky. It took years to track down OBL and the US Intelligence community had been working on it for years. Some will say Obama's order was necessary since it meant sending American military into another country that we are not at war with. BTW, I am glad OBL was killed and not captured.
7) Improved our standing abroad is also debatable. Look at the results of the April Spring which was applauded and encouraged by Obama. We now have unstable governments in Egypt, Libya, & Yemen which are closer aligned with the Anti American Muslims like the Muslim Brotherhood, and even Al Qaeda. Egypt is holding 19 Americans for trial and is threatening to cancel the peace agreement with Israel if we don't keep funding them with billions of dollars.
scref,
I think your spin of facts is just that....a spin. When it came time to withdraw the troops from Iraq which party screamed we should not do that? Which party pressed for further intervention by wanting a large presnt to remain? Which party wanted to keep large ground force present in Iraq in case they decided against being a democracy? Republicans.
No matter how you spin it, he has stated his intentions on removing our troops from Afghanistan. The withdrawal has to be a planned one for the safety of our troops. Which party has been critical of such removal? Again Republicans. Guess who wants to stay there? Republicans!
Much ado about a plan that really doesn't start to affect anything until 2014. When it was created, the president said it would need to be revised as time showed what parts were not working or could create problems. Their are some parts that will help Americans with their health-care. What party wants to get rid of the whole thing instead of fixing what they think might be wrong. Republicans!
It is a fact that without Government intervention in the auto industry which it helped save. It was the only viable source at that time because our private financial institutions were also failing and would have been unable to give the money needed or loaned. Very few reputable economist think otherwise. Your statement about unions just shows your conservative hatred for the labor organization. They gave up more than they received, and were a major contributor of saving the industry. Which party wanted to let the auto industry fail? You are right, Republicans!
There would have been far more people losing their homes if he hadn't taken the only steps he could, using the only tool at his disposal..excutive power. Would have been much better if Congress worked with him to correct the mess that those "greedy" and not very business frugal bankers got us into to. Which party is the only ones calling for "let the housing market bottom out " no matter what the cost to everyday Americans. Right on, Republicans!
Your Bush couldn't get OBL! He publicly stated " it was not important if we get him". Eight years and nothing. Let him slip away countless times.Got him under the current presidents watch. Only 3 years. Imagine that! Yah, I think that's something!
Did you travel abroad during the years Bush was president. I did. Guess what, we were not liked at all. Most of it attributed to the foreign policies put in place by the Bush administration. Today, it is turning around with cooperation of all nations, not just the "fist in your face image" we had before. Quite successful I would say. Image, removing a vile dictator without costing thousands of American soldiers life's. Wish we could say that about Bush and guess who, the republicans.
I say Amy has it pretty much on point, not the twisted spin you tried to place on it. Because that is what it is; Republican spin!

it's amazing how one supporter can win an election? he could be the first silent president?
does anyone see anything wrong with this???
thank you supreme court!
Cheney was a silent president.
Sounds like Grover Norquist is auditioning for the role of "silent president for this go-around!
"We have met the enemy and he is us!" Pogo by Walt Kelly
he could be the first silent president?
I don't think President Obama will have to campaign much at all. The Republicans are doping that for him.
I'd rather vote for Mike Tyson. Happy pizza pthursday.

MUD GUN!!!!!!!!
That commercial is a crack up. Even Mitt liked it...
Its increible to me the division in the United States amoung the Sheeple. I dont like any of the politicians we have. I will start with anyone we have had in the last 20 years involvd in anything meaningful. Gingich is a crook I have experienced it first hand with his Wall Street Journal scam on business owers and many more. Obama is not visionary he is a kid in a candy store and he is spending on his parents (taxpayers) credit card with no limit. The kid needs to be sent to reform school. I say vote every imcumbent out and you will see a change. It doesn matter the party-they are all spinning the same card trick just with different color cards. Nothing has changed with party-they are all having a gay ole time with our money. Stop get off the train and vote for change-that is change to noncareer politicians. Who is better Romney, Santorum, Gingrich, Paul. Paul cant win he is already out. Gingrich crook. Romney the establishment republicans want him so I say anything they want is bad. That leaves Santorum. Is he better than Obama-yes he is not the incumbant. If any senator, House Rep. or any other office older is anincumbant vote them out then you will see a change. It doesnt matter right now about the two or thre issues you care about think of th bigger picture. After 3-4 years of voting incumbants out the shift starts moving to citizen politicians there to represent you and I. Then things sart getting better our interests are represented by those in our comunity once again. The power s broken given to the people. Yes its a dream- But we know dreams come true. Yes we have the power we just let it get controlled by lawyers and career politicians-stop giveng it away-wake up. The spin is in pleasing sheeple with a few inflammatory issues but wielding the power for gain behind the scenes. All politicians in power now are currupt-do the research- I can find list of deals made with obbyist, foreign goernments, foreign companies, big donors with any National politicians. Wake up stop insanity vote incumbants out. NOW IS THE TIME TO BE A DIFFERENCE MAKER NOT A NAY SAYER.
mark, mark, mark...
I thought the same thing in my younger days and we wound up with Newt Gingrich as Speaker.
the Tea Party types tried that in 2010, remember? We've wound up with the most dysfunctional Congress that I can recall. These people didn't understand the implications of their actions and we almost defaulted on our debt - remember that? That directly led to our credit rating being dropped.
Santorum is so far out on right field he is a foul.
Mark: ok....or we could try reality.
Ever watched Congress in action Mark? Takes them a full year just to learn where the bathrooms are and hire the right staff. 'Throw the bums out'...'they're all the same'...that's just children's tantrum stuff...It's a democracy, mark. Learn how it works.
Tea anyone? No thanks it gives me a headache.
Mark, You guys tried that in 2010 and now look what happened.
Mark,
You don't understand caucus states and the delegate process. Once the delegates are awarded for Maine, and Minnesota you will find that Ron Paul was the winner in both states and probably Nevada too. By the way he's the only one that's not a crook.
why would you vote for slick rick?
One of the 3 Most Corrupt Senators
Santorum is one of the most corrupt politicians in recent memory, by which I mean, he repeatedly sponsored laws giving very specific help to companies -- worth millions of dollars -- and they immediately gave him large campaign donations and -- after he left the Senate -- hundreds of thousands, and millions of dollars in cash that went directly into his pocket and made him rich. He was twice named one of America's 3 most corrupt senators by CREW, a clean-government group, and has become a millionaire from payments by these companies since was voted out of the Senate in 2006.There are many more examples -- $25,000 from execs at Waste Management & Processes, Inc. after Santorum proposed a $100 million subsidy for their coal-to-diesel plant; $6,000 from Miller and Annheuser-Busch right before Santorum introduced a bill cutting the beer barrel excise tax in half; $20,000 from tobacco interests around the time he blocked a law allowing the FDA to regulate tobacco, etc. etc. It's pretty shameless even by Congressional standards.
They're kind of out of fashion now, but when earmarks were all the rage in Congress, Rick Santorum was the master of doling them out. He wasn't required to report or list them at the time, but during his years in Congress, Santorum passed out over a BILLION dollars in earmarks -- chunks of money directed to one specific recipient -- according to Taxpayers for Common Sense. He even voted for the infamous "Bridge to Nowhere" in Alaska.
In one bill alone -- the 2006 Defense appropriations bill -- he personally inserted 54 earmarks that delivered $154 million of your tax money to special interests. And hey, guess what? Those special interests donated over $200,000 to his campaigns just that year.
Mark....give it a rest....give Us a rest...no one is interested...go count SHEEP
Mark,
And you want to be taken seriously that just removing all incumbents will solve our problems? Anybody but Obama is the message I read from your post. Isn't that the republican slogan? "One term president"! I have always found it is better to work within to improve things versus just totally destroying something and leaving nothing to replace it with. Sorry, don't buy your kind of solution. Sounds too much like a Tea Party idea.
Santorum is going to beat Romney in Michigan--the Democratic Party's dream comes true. Either we get a much-damaged Romney to take on or a conservative purist whose positions will seem dangerously extreme.
Romney will become an Uber-conservative.
...And the really sad part, what these tunnel visioned RWNJ's fail to realize:
The scarier thing for the President is that only 27% strongly approve of the President while 39% strongly disapprove. Those are not good numbers. Rasmussen daily.
John: the President's approval rating on national defense? Close to 75%. (including Republicans). He now has a ten point lead over Romney and a 20 point lead over Santorum. Every one of the republicans left in the race has higher negatives than Obama and higher negatives than GW did when he left office and that was a record at the time (Newt's negatives are the worst ever recorded for a national candidate.) Can you add? That's 66% of those polled not feeling "strongly". That'll change and is changing in the President's favor as the economy continues its recovery.
Hey. I was just sighting rasmussen daily, you can look at it your self if you don't believe me.

Michigan is an open primary...
If you are the Michigan Democratic party, what is your strategy?
I imagine there will be a whole lot of Democrats (temporarily) for Santorum trekking to the polls on primary day...
dangerfield,
Diabolically clever. Um, didn't Rush try to encourage Republicans to do the same in the Obama/Clinton race?
Something like that, at least in one state primary...
The whole contested convention/J-E-B scenario is more plausible with every new development in the race and every passing day, isn't it?...
Well... Even though it would be nice to see Mitt lose I just can't find myself voting Republican. I don't know which one I dislike more but it sure would be nice to see Mitt lose and lose big.
What? Our choice is between butt goo and elitist plastic man?
Ron Paul 2012
John--speaking of Cults--Where have all the RP people been? Recounting votes in Me.
I really don't see myself as a member of a cult. When you consider his average vote totals is around 20%, he may have more support than the Catholic church, only he doesn't shove his religion down others throats.
cult/kəlt/
Noun:
I find you guilty using your first sentence as proof.
Proof of what, that there is no religious aspect to promoting liberty rather than religious belief?
Sorry ---I thought you posted a religious like devotion or veneration to a figure---concerning liberty, I hope RP includes women in his zeal.
Have you seen his wife? I think if he didn't she would kick his arse.
John: Ron Paul doesn't think women belong in the constitution any more than the priests in the catholic church do...but he's better? There's a reason the nut job can't win a single state.
It only took a third of the population to start the war for our independence.
And I think the question about his view of women should maybe asked of his wife, don't you.
The Dems will be lining up to vote Santorum in this one make no mistake about it. I am sure Obama asked himself what would Nixon do in MI?
Democrats voting Santorum is a done deal courtesy of Acorn, Union bosses and other dirty politicians working for President Barack Milhous Obama. Anyone who thinks otherwise is naive to the nth degree.
rebelwe... Jealous ...? If the Republicans had Any one worth a damn running they would not be in this self made MESS. Love it!
I agree with Damage 123 that Catholicism and muslimism are cults. Large ones, but still cults.
Charles don't be such a moron. Firstly, muhammadanism is the proper noun used to describe those who practice Islamic faith.
Secondly, these religions are not cults. They are the messengers people use to be in communion with their God.
However, I will submit Muhammadanism is close to a cult in that it fosters in many the vagaries of radical intolerance that ultimately robs men and women of their dignity and refinement in this life. Where they go in the hereafter I do not know.
I suspect Islamic radicals go straight to hell where they belong.
What about a religion that hides and protects thousands of priests who have raped and molested tens of thousands of children worldwide, castrated 10 year old boys to sing in a choir, burned thousands of people at the stake, contributed to the holocaust, but did apologize for that. Where do these people go upon death?
Charles - "thousands" of priests have molested children? I'll give you maybe a few hundreds over the last 100 years but that's about it. Out of about 400,000 active priests worldwide.
"These people" you refer to, these rotten few of which I will account for in recent but not the distant past, go to heaven if they have asked forgiveness and changed their ways.
Therein you have the difference between Christianity and Muhammadanism. The former teaches tolerance and forgiveness while the latter teaches intolerance with draconian disciplinary actions even today.
There are Thousands and thousands of priests in the U.S and Ireland alone. Add in England,Germany,Poland, ItalyBelgium,Netherlands ,France,The Phillipines, Hungary, Rumania, etc, etc and etc where there are cases pending. Read prime Minister Enda Kenney s letter to the Pope when he recalled the Irish Ambassador to the Vatican.
Ursula, Please let me correct you. There are many Liberals who, unlike you, do believe in God. We just believe in a benevolent God, not an angry war mongering, mammonite sort of demigod* intent on impoverishing the Middle Class!
*By demigod I mean some sort of inferior god, quite possibly Satan himself!
I have read the Torah, The new testament, The Koran, and always wonder why the God of the Abrahamaic religions thought women are inferior to men. Jus wondrin.
Charles: The denigration of women doesn't come from God. It comes from flesh and blood men. Just saying.
Charles all men of that time be they Christian, Jew, or atheist denigrated women. It was the way of the world at that time. Men have or are evolving from that way of thinking. Some are just slow learners.
AP-1414066==You obviously have not read the three aforementioned books---Well you could start with talking snakes and Eve. Maybe if Abraham had kept his ----in his pants, he wouldn t have impregnated his slave, no Ishmael, maybe one less religion---oh forget it just musing.
MSNBC and the liberals are working on Romney, notice the stories today about him. They are getting ready for their choice, The Campaigner in Chief.
Dave---Repeating The words from Romney s past positions out loud does not make one a liberal unless you consider Newt, RP. Santorum, Bachmann Liberals, They may be laughable but not liberals in your definition, anyway.
Hey Dave --- liberals don't have to work on Romney. His fellow repubs are killing him.
So what is Gov. Palin up to with all these recent comments about a brokered convention? Crazy like a fox, she is. Send more Tums and Rolaids to the Republik Party masters (and Gov. Romney).
skip1---was crazy like a faux a pun?
A political ad in Michigan should be fun. All Santorum has to do is show GM's record profits and then point out that Romney would have let this American icon be dismantled and sold to the lowest bidder for the profit of a few. America does not need Romney.
How ironic....Santorum coming from behind........
Santorum's Sugar Daddy just told Andrea Mitchell that contraception was cheap in his days,it was Bayer aspirin, the women just kept one between her knee's. Andrea damn near fell out of her chair !!! Where in the hell does the GOP find these nuts !!!
Mittens has some conservatives fooled into thinking he is one of them. I guess they are not very bright. Sanitarium has others convinced that he is sane. I guess they are not very bright either. A vulture capitalist or a religious zealot. Such a tough decision. The GOP will hand re-election on a silver platter to the President. I'm sure when it's all over they will wonder what went wrong??
I know huh !! They Cantor seem to get their $hit together, its like they have a broken Boehner or something !! But that Palin's in comparison to the Trump card they may play later,it will take two breath DeMints to get that taste out of your mouth ! I think we should just Newter them all and put them in a Sanitorium...that should get them off of our Backman....
If you put a republican brain in a bird it would fly backwards. The same applies to catholic Bishops. Most religion is a cult full of people afraid of the dark.
