Iowa Republicans have set August 11, 2007 as the date for their
signature straw poll at Iowa State in Ames.

The Washington Post's Broder reviews the Romney record as governor of a
state that may be more of an albatross than a boon for him in 2008.

"Aides to Arizona Sen. John McCain and [Romney] have begun interviewing
potential Iowa staff," per the Des Moines Register, which also reported
yesterday that Sen. Barack Obama (D) is, too.

McCain could face some familiar-seeming tough opposition in South
Carolina.  The State reports that Romney has hired a consultant to his
presidential campaign who is "generally recognized as the architect behind
[President] Bush’s hard-hitting campaign in S.C. in 2000."

GOP Rep. Duncan Hunter tells the Washington Times that he's the party's
"best bet to reconstitute the blue-collar coalition that helped the
party win the White House in the 1980s.  Mr. Hunter, who is seeking the
presidential nomination in 2008, says he can rebuild that coalition by
campaigning on defense, traditional values and fair trade."

GOP Sen. Sam Brownback, meanwhile, said on ABC that "'there is room, on
the Republican side, for somebody that's a full-scale conservative,
that's an economic and fiscal and social conservative...  So we'll be
making some announcements, soon, about that'...  In addition to taking an
AIDS test" to highlight poverty in Africa and global health issues, "Mr.
Brownback also plans to spend a night in jail to highlight what he
calls a need for prison reform."  (Obama also has taken an AIDS test.)

The Hartford Courant says Sen. Chris Dodd (D) "is proceeding at his own
carefully calibrated pace," which is not the same pace at which many of
his potential rivals are moving.

Denver, having made some progress toward resolving its hotel issues,
feels good about its chances to win the 2008 Democratic presidential
convention -- especially after Colorado served up some key victories for
the party on election day.

I gotta say, this business about Obama being a serious 2008 candidate is all a fantasy. Perhaps VP, but there is 0 chance he is our next pres. All this talk is for his book and for the media to sell newspapers (or get viewers)... www.minor-ripper.blogspot.com
Biden - Obama '08 Obama - ???? '12!!!!!
I've said this before and I'll say it again........John McCain has absolutely NO chance whatsoever of becoming President. People saw him allow the Bush camp to push him and his family around in 2000. They saw him disavow any "kinship" with a fellow Vietnam Veteran in 2004, and they saw him flip flop from disagreeing with Bush on just about everything in 2000, to becoming one of his chief congressional apologists throughout Bush's tenure. Now, he is once again distancing himself from Bush in an attempt to re-invent his 'persona' before 2008. Uh,uh, we aint that stupid. It aint gonna work. In fact, Obama has a better chance than McCain does, and that really isn't saying much.
GOP needs a new moderate face, but who may that be? One w/ guts on global security; brains to cobble a good domestic policy together; backbone to confront the wackjobs from the extreme ends of political spectrum. Who is this person..I dunno..
Moderate Pres 2008- who may it be? Moderate, intelligent, articulate, poised, gutsy, steel in the spine, tough guts, not afraid to fight for Americans and not cowed and bullied by ideolouges and deep pocket lobbyists. Who is this mystery person?? Somebody tell me!!
That person definatly is not a career politician!!! We are screwed now and in 08', just like the govenors race in Texas.
Obama's statements are often shallow. His voice does not carry conviction. None-the-less, he seems trustworthy. He should openly lay out his plans how to come out of Bush's misadventure in Iraq. Above all he should convince the younger generation that there is hope in him for the country.
Wij vonden de beste hits voor jouw!
It is about time that some light is being shined on subjects such as AIDS and global heath issue.  As one of the nation pledge to fullfill the goals of the millennium development project, US has done very little to achieve them.  According to the Borgen Project, whose purpose is to fight global poverty, it only takes $19 billion dollars annually to end world hunger and $23 billion dollars to stop the spread of AIDS and Malaria.  However, our government has already spent $340 billion dollars on the war in Iraq.  As caring and responsible citizens, it is time for us to support the candidates that cares about these important domestic and global issue.  We should support someone who is willing to commit to taking actions against global poverty.
What this country needs is someone who still respects the constitution on which it was founded.  As Ron Paul is the only canidate willing to stick to his guns on this issue (and a good conservative tas well) I will be supporting him.
You didn't cover Tommy Thompson?  Why not?  Don't you think adequate journalism requires discussing his policies and covering his campaign?

Say what you like, Tommy Thompson has two abilities George Bush does not.  He can recognize political reality.  He can recognize reality.  And he is able to act accordingly.  For that reason alone, Thompson is head and shoulders above the current field and not half the embarrassment that is the current DC Establishment.  He is nothing if not authentic, unlike Fred Thompson's fauxiness/folksiness.

At MINIMUM you owe the American people adequate coverage until they can hear ALL the candidates and make THEIR choice.
