Madame Speaker

Bloomberg says Pelosi "is taking office with two goals: becoming an effective counterweight to [Bush], and proving that a woman can thrive at the summit of U.S. political power...  Her success at retiring the notion that women aren't qualified to manage the responsibilities of top leadership may affect others' aspirations, including New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton's possible bid for the White House in 2008."

The Los Angeles Times, covering the three-day series of events celebrating Pelosi's new job, says, "The installation of a new speaker is the closest Congress comes to a presidential inauguration.  Some critics accused her of putting on a 'Nancy Fest,' but supporters said the events were as much political roadmap as biography."

USA Today says Pelosi's ascension is just the most prominent of a number of recent breakthroughs for women in politics.

I wish I had the feeling a new day was dawning but i don't. As a woman, I hope she does a bang up job. But I am not feeling it. Not as a polictal junkie or woman am I feeling it. But Good luck Mrs. Pelosi....
Is it just me, or is Pelosi some kind of a 'Babe'?
Steve, I thought it was just my middle age & poor eyesight - you aren't alone in thinking she has some 'Babe' aura about her. She does have an 'edge' about her:-)
The. Not all 'Babes' are dingbatniptuck infotainer/personality-types "Gone Wacko!" with attitudinal hair-don'ts, metallic thongs, virgin coconut oil tanning butters, and perky peppy prepisms, dialed into a helpless male audience of perpetual nineteen year old peer-pressure satyrs. Fortunately for us, we respond to the inner woman, and its' manifestation on the outer woman.
You go girl.
Make sure Nancy keeps focus; does not be "Princess Oriented' and leads the House!
Just watched Nancy on t.v. speaking. It is so refreshing to listen to a good speaker instead of a bumbling idiot, speaking with all the oohs, aahs, uhs, and anything else President Bush can stumble with in his speach.
Steve, yeah, I think she's cute too:-)
Today is a great day for me on two fronts: first, as a proud-to-be Democrat; second, as a not-usually-proud-to-be Italian-American. Nancy Pelosi will be remembered not as the first woman speaker, but as one of the finest and most effective. To satisfy those other Pelosiphiles out there, I will post to my weblog http://beautykilledbeast.blogspot.com/ some framegrabs of our new Madame Speaker of video taken at a NYC fundraiser in Oct 2006.
Very well said, Francis. This is a great day for all women. Nancy Pelosi is certainly a grand lady.
Wow, I thought I was the only one. But yeah! Pelosi can look really hot sometimes. She is a babe in my opinion! And I'm a Reagan Conservative. But I recognize a hottie when I see one.
