Just when talk about Marc Rich was dying down… The Boston Globe reports that Hillary Clinton's brother, Tony Rodham, "is battling an order to repay more than $100,000 he received from a couple pardoned by President Clinton." A judge has ordered Rodham to respond by March 16 to allegations that he failed to repay that money as he was ordered to do so. "Clinton critics have been seeking to revive an array of controversies, from the Whitewater land deal to the Monica Lewinsky case. The Clinton campaign has sought to depict them as old or moot cases. But the Tony Rodham case could be different because it is in court just as Senator Clinton's campaign reaches full speed."

The Globe also lists the money both of Clinton's brothers received from people who received pardons by President Clinton.

The Wall Street Journal looks at Clinton's energy plan rollout: "'The more energy self-sufficient we become, the more we can stop spending billions of dollars and sending them to unstable regimes all over the world, some of whom are even financing terrorism against us,'" she said. The centerpiece of her energy effort: "a Strategic Energy Fund to advance new technologies. The money — $50 billion over 10 years — would be extracted from the oil industry by ending tax breaks, imposing a two-year windfall profits 'fee' and collecting all the royalties owed for drilling on federal lands. Oil companies could make up for the fee by investing in ethanol, wind and other alternative energy sources."

As rival Obama attempts to quit smoking, Clinton -- along with possible presidential candidate Chuck Hagel -- reintroduced a resolution yesterday calling on Bush to declare lung cancer a national public health priority. And, per the New York Daily News, the latest Washington Post/ABC poll finds that Obama better stick with his Nicorette. “The poll shows voters don't care if you are black or a woman, but a smoker? No, thanks… Only 6% would be less inclined to vote for a black candidate (and 7% would be more inclined), but one in five says he won't pull the lever for a smoker.”

Roll Call looks at the carefully neutral role Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is trying to stake out in his party's primary.

Joe Biden spoke out about his resolution to repeal the 2002 authorization of the Iraq war. "'It's not likely I have 60 votes to prevent a filibuster, but it is likely that if I continue to push, each time I push there's less and less support for this war in Iraq,' Biden said in a phone interview on his way to New Hampshire, where he planned two days of campaigning for the Democratic presidential nomination," the Manchester Union Leader says.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has been advocating that presidential candidates promise to run positive campaigns, and per the AP he "plans to turn his proposal into a formal DNC resolution for the party's next meeting.”

And former presidential contender and Virginia Gov. Mark Warner, who quit the race last fall, isn't ruling out a rematch against GOP Sen. John Warner, the Washington Post reports.

Scooter has promised to buy the Bush Twins, a thousand gallons of Tequila, when his pardon comes through.
Well, I see we're getting a taste of what the right wing attack machine is going to do when Hillary gets the nomination. People who get Presidential pardons are quite often the benefactors of the Chief Executives who give them. George Bush Senior, for instance, pardoned George Steinbrenner back in the early 90's. Steinbrenner was a HUGE G.O.P donor and gave THOUSANDS of dollars to the campaigns of Nixon, Reagan, and Bush 41. (I'm sure he gave a ton of money to Dumbya, too.) But you'll never hear them talk about that. The thing to remember is that after all the millions of dollars were spent witch-hunting the Clintons, two grand juries REFUSED to indict either one for anything, and the one and ONLY thing the GOP led hate campaign against them ever turned up......was a BJ. (smile)
what, the Boston Globe is actually doing a piece AGAINST the Clintons? Omigod, I'm gonna have a heart attack...call an ambulance!!!!!!!!
J.Merle: several of them, to be precise. And lies were uttered to Congressional inquiries, which, the last time I looked, was what Ole' Scooter was charged with. Great double standard for Libs, eh Merle?
No double standard at all for Liberals jtb. But, a whole bunch of them for the right wing. Like for instance, when Clinton lied about a BJ it was cause to shut down the business of congress for a year and a half. But when a Right Wing-Nut like Libby lies under oath about a matter of national security it's a "memory problem." Kinda' makes you go "hmmmmmmm" doesn't it jtb?
jtb, one more word about the politics of personal destruction. The GOP may be traversing a mine-laden road if it tries this sort of thing in 2008. Especially if Giulliani is your candidate. (smile)
Clinton knew if he told Congress, they'd never be able to keep their fat mouths shut. That means that Congress forced him to lie to his wife, by tellin them what he would tell her. Since when does Congress need details of a Presidents' Sex Life? When was the last time Dubya had sex? How many times has Cheney had sex this year? Does Nancy Pelosi have sex? Does Denny Hastert have sex? Does Congress have SEX? Don't lie Congress! America Knows Arousal, OK?
jtb - comparing the bj lies to the constant drum beat of lies that have come out of this administration during the past 6 year is idiotic. This is the most corrupt and incapable administration in the history of the U.S. It will take a decade to fix what they have destroyed and tainted.
Illegal war Vs. BJ. You're on the right side of every issue, jtb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(See how all those exclamation points makes it seem true?????????????)
wow, helluva response. must've hit a sore spot somewhere.
p.s: If you guys were paying close attention, I wasn't the one who brought up ole' Bill's indiscretions. But, as in trial law, if the subject is brought up, its fair game...oops, sorry, you libs don't understand the concept of "fair"
Comparing Bush's Presidency to Clinton's is like comparing a shoplifter to John Gotti. Bill Clinton was investigated by a Democrat and that Democrat recommended Clinton be tried for 17 felonies. But, the Republican Congress wimped out and, of course, the Democrats weren't going to convict him. A little more than lying about a BJ, but I figured liberals would not want to remember that.
jtb....I also seem to remember some campaign contributions, alledgedly from a Chinese source, that republicans went crazy over, .......BUT when YOUR congressional candidates get caught taking money from AL QAEDA sources it's no big deal. Why the double standard there?......Just askin' to be fair (hee hee)
ah excuse me Neilll, but you have your facts a little backward. The first investigator assigned to The Whitewater case was Bob Fiske, former general council to the NFL, former Police Commisioner in VERY Republican Darien Ct., and a hardline conservative. The SECOND "investigator" and eventual "Independent" Council was Ken Starr, former Solicitor General under George Bush Sr. former general council to The Republican National Comittee, former general council to The Phillip Morris Corporation (whom The Clinton administration sued and won a HEFTY award on behalf of affected ex-smokers) and a guy who had offered his services free of charge to Paula Jones' attorneys before being named I.C in the Whitewater situation. Despite the fact that Whitewater cost the government close to 70 million (between Starr's out of control witch hunt, and Senate hearings that turned up NOTHING)two different grand juries, one in Little Rock and one in DC REFUSED to indict the Clinton's on a single charge. The only thing they could pin on him was lying about a BJ, which hadn't even happened when the Whitewater Witch Hunt started! Bush, on the other hand, has had a Republican Congress that gave him a blank check to do whatever the hell he wanted up to and including VIOLATE the Constitution! Please remember that his VP's Chief of Staff is on trial right now for lying to investigators and The FBI about the outing of a covert CIA agent. Bush also lied to the public about WMD and Nuclear Weapons in Iraq, he lied about Iraq having connections to Al Qaeda and he LIED about not knowing anything was going to happen before 911. Your analogy may be correct about one being like a petty thief and the other a murdering gangster. But, I think you need to change your labeling of which one was / is the murdering gangster.
oh, Merle, you are stretching your rationalizations too far: Ole' Bill was caught with his pants down, which is not a metaphor, and will forever be known as the President with the infamous Blue dress. Why can't you just accept it, and move on?. P.S. if Bush did HALF the things you are accusing him of doing,(and if ANY of them were provable in a court of Law, I guarrantee you ole'Harry and Queen Pelosi would have already sent the Articles of Impeachment to the Senate) he'da been long gone. He isn't, they are not true (except in your own mind, with is inadmissable as evidence), and you are just venting your spleen, which is O.K., but please, stick with the facts, not your incorrect prejudices. They are getting boring to listen to, even electronically.
Imagining some of those politicians Steve mentioned having sex in his last post is scary.....
