A Washington Post survey finds "a noticeable shift in sentiment among African American voters" toward Sen. Barack Obama's candidacy. That shift has helped Obama slice Clinton's overall lead in half. And on the GOP side, a shift among white evangelical Protestants in favor of Rudy Giuliani is behind Giuliani's "2 to 1 advantage over McCain among Republicans... Giuliani is doing well among this group of Americans despite his support of abortion rights and gay rights... McCain opposes abortion rights... Early national polls are not always good predictors for presidential campaigns, but the Post-ABC poll offers clues to the competition ahead."

As many as 23 states could hold their presidential nominating contests on February 5, The Hill reports, thanks to encouragement from the top presidential contenders who are looking to capitalize on their frontrunner status.

Also in The Hill: the latest look at viral marketing, noting that the "explosion in person-to-person communication ... will create enormous opportunities for campaigns but also raises the risk that an unguarded moment will spread at lightning speed to sink a candidacy, political consultants say."

Shift of African Americans voters toward Obama. I hope this shift is because people believe in his qualifications and not racial.. Shift of white evangelical Prostestants in favor of Giuliani. I hope this shift is because people believe in his qualifications and not based on their religion.
Seattle Sue - If white evangelical protestants are shifting to Giuliani I can all but guaruntee that it would be because of this qualifications because it certainly not based on their religion.
"It was reported today that all Italian-Americans who are divorced, married to close relatives, have questionable business dealings and like to madly pace and gesticulate while talking are throwing their support behind Giuliani." Independent Party News Service
Shift, schmift... They are all un-electable and they know it.
What would Tony Soprano do?
Alice. Come to Iowa and dig a hole in a soybean field?
One thing I found rather telling about libs was an interview with Byron York, White House correspondent for Nat'l Review. Seems Obama's recent rise in the polls and the "Geffen incident" are "allowing" those on the left to "speak more freely" about their feelings in regards to Hillary's campaign. Now they are suddenly allowed to talk openly about her electability and other perceived problems with her candidacy. See, this is one of the major problems with the left, no one feels comfortable with saying what they feel until someone else first sticks their neck out. "Gosh, if I say what I feel I might say something wrong, offend someone, or open myself to criticism, so I'll just keep my mouth shut until someone else has the courage to say it first." Once that first person speaks out, then comes the barrage. We see it here and on other blogs everyday. Libs will scream unfounded opinions and downright lies from the rooftops as long as they feel it will hurt the right and benefit the left, but not before someone else has the courage to say what they want to say. This is especially true when it comes to speaking out about their own. I can see why. Look at the vitriol directed at Geffen by the the Clinton camp after his comments last week. The left has an honesty problem. That is the main reason I could never align myself with them. The right is nearly as bad, but at least there are some on that side of the aisle who speak out of conviction, a rarity at best on the left. America needs a strong 3rd party now. If not, turn out the lights, the party's over. The 2 major parties are accomplishing nothing but a slow and certain death for our nation.
LOL--I thought it was the funniest coincidence after I'd posted the above and then saw your remark under the next post! And maybe Soprano would find Jimmy Hoffa!
Seattle Sue: Let's hope that women aren't supporting Hillary just because she's a woman. Let's hope that African Americans weren't supporting Hillary just because she is married to Bill Clinton. If Obama starts eating away at Hillary's black support, it could be the beginning of the end for Hillary.
If someone on the right made the comments posted here by Robert someone would be ready to dig a hole, since it comes from someone who leans to the left it's OK. *SIGH* When will you guys learn, there is nothing worse than hypocrisy. It will be the number one reason the left doesn't win the White House in '08.
Ryan,Mich====Sound like you and I agree that Giuliani doesn't have much in the morals department. Thanks we finally agree on something.
Shift of African Americans voters toward Obama. Should we act suprised? Ever hear of Martin Luther King? Are You ready for an Obama Highway? Really.
Remember those folks in 2000 who voted for George Bush because he seemed like a regular guy...one you could sit down and drink a beer with...not one of those fancy-schmancy dark beers either, real Ameruhkin beers?
Darren - how anyone who supports an unmitigated liar and cheat like George W. Bush can even utter the word "hypocrisy." Stunning. Read your own words.
Darren - Robert's information was factual. Your information, however, was a cut-and-paste repeat of your post in another section of First Read. In addition to being redundant, it is inflammatory and rude.
Alice. I like the idea of Jimmy Hoffa, encased in cement, in the North End Zone of the Meadowlands Football Field. "...woke up this mornin'...got my self an Air Hammer..."
Seattle Sue - In my opinion he is kind of the Republican version of Bill Clinton. A great leader and a masterful politician but with rather large moral deficits.
Ryan - Just out of curiosity, to which moral deficits are you referring in regards to Bill and Rudy?
"MY MY"! Was I ever surprised to read where the "CLINTONISTA'S" had not learned from their ways! Not! The president may pardon whom he pleases, when he pleases without any input from anyone. But "Willy "needed the assistance of "HILLARY'S" brothers(Tony and Hugh) for the Braswell-Vignali pardons,(WHAT!) and about $500,000 from them to secure their pardons? The family suggested Hugh/Tony return $400,000 and the judge is asking why they kept $100,000 as for he directed it be returned also! A crook is a crook your honor! Sure we need all these clowns roaming the whitehouse grounds again! Does anyone out there in the land of the have nots see the writing on the wall? This family are crooks plain and simple! How did that go,"It takes a village" or was it "TAKE THE VILLAGE"? Good luck America you/we are going to need it!Norm of Denver
Carrie - I guess you would call it "womanizing" for both of them. I suppose you could add shady business deals to that list as well.

Hillary's camp is already sending out the "unknown sources" attacks on Barack on "Is he black enough?". Barack had better be ready to fight back, because hell hath no fury like a lying ex-First Lady, who is willing to sell anyone down the river to win the Presidency.
Why in the world are we even discussing the 2008 presidential race now. Polls don't mean a thing at this early stage of the game and the voters will be so turned off by the time November 2008 arrives. Both sides of the aisle will have called each other liars, hypocrites and the press will be eagerly waiting to see who commits the blunder that hurts his side the most. And after all is said and done, the one who stands alone will be the one that no one wants. It will be the one that is pure lily white with no faults and has absolutely no understanding of world events or history, it will be because he is handsome, rich and likeable. That seems to be all that a lot of voters think are qualifications for the job. Sound familiar?
I wonder when people will start asking regarding Hillary, "Is she female enough?"
It is wearing trying to calculate the time we have used up looking for get web site traffic research.
