67% oppose Libby pardon

According to a new Gallup poll, 67% say they oppose President Bush pardoning Lewis "Scooter" Libby, who was convicted on perjury and obstruction charges resulting from the CIA leak investigation. Just 21% support a pardon.

That finding is similar to a recent CNN poll, which found that 69% opposed a pardon for Libby.

I'm going to join up with that 67%. I also want to go on record as opposing Karl Rove's pardon. Then I plan to oppose Dick Cheney's pardon. And finally, I will happily oppose George Bush's pardon. I have a fine bottle of vino spumante waiting on that one.

One of the valuable lessons my living has taught me is that anyone who believes in something so much that they can't have a sense of humor about it or listen to an opposing viewpoint without frothing at the mouth, is close to the point of lunacy. It's not about being racist, it's about good common sense.

Well people's opinions are only as good as the information they're given. How about the Zogby poll released yesterday? Sentiment is strong: 83 percent of likely voters think bias is "alive and well." Of that number, 64 percent said the press leans left, while slightly more than a quarter -- 28 percent -- said there was a conservative bias. The main goal of media these days is to stir up crap, and then "report on it" Very few people are dedicated to getting people information they need. Well that's how it seems. It could just be the hand full of people who decide what gets through the filter. 3 networks, about the same number of cable stations. Handful of major papers. Small crowd.

John from WD, your comments on this and other boards are interesting to say the least. But I must say that in order to be grown up so as to comment on important issues, it helps if you are somewhat informed, and somewhat respectful of the rights of others to express their opinion. For example, the Republican majority in the previous sessions of Congress did a lot to "reform" credit, but only for the benefit of the banks and other creditors. Their idea of reform was to make it harder for debtors to seek relief under the bankruptcy code, and easier for creditors to foreclose on your "fist" house (whatever that is, and I'm not sure I want to know). Secondly, respect is earned; there is no automatic entitlement. The two LYIN', CHEATIN' and STEALIN' SONSABITCHES you mentioned have squandered whatever respect they may have at one time enjoyed. Some of the people who used to respect them, but were betrayed and now know better, are some of the people whose comments you read here.
