Gonzales under fire/Bush agenda

Posted: Friday, April 13, 2007 9:11 AM by Mark Murray

It's Friday the 13th so what better day for House Judiciary Democrats to get unlucky in their search for Karl Rove emails. The RNC says it is having a hard time finding four year’s worth of those emails. By the way, this is the last weekend that Alberto Gonzales can cram from his big testimony day next Tuesday.

The Democratic House campaign committee is running a second radio ad targeting Rep. Heather Wilson (R), questioning her involvement in the US attorneys controversy. It will start running in Albuquerque during drive time on Friday morning and run through Tuesday (the day of the Gonzales' testimony).

Here's an excerpt: "In Washington Alberto Gonzales, the Attorney General of the United States, is testifying under oath about his role in the firing of U.S. Attorneys. But here in New Mexico, no one is getting the truth about Heather Wilson's involvement in the scandal. Wilson said a constituent's complaint led her to call Republican U.S. Attorney David Iglesias about an ongoing federal corruption investigation.”

In his weekly National Journal column, NBC political analyst Charlie Cook offers an intriguing defense of Bush, especially on immigration. "Although I disagree with Bush on the war and agree with him on immigration, I admire his grit and resolve on both. Yet those who disagree with him generally give him little credit for his tenacity and don’t even concede that he is paying a terrible price for his advocacy on these issues.”

Let me see, all e-mails are missing from rove, gosh what a coincidence that only 100% of roves(roves only) are missing. I think the missing link has been found, e-mails are hard to lose. When the smoke clears I think rove will be standing there with maches in his hands.
Damn, were is Ollie North when you need him.
Just heard on the news that rove is comming to Seattle, Wa tomorrow. It's a 3 hour drive but if rove is comming, rove is coming sound the alarm rove is comming. Could be time for an exercise in good ol American democracy and anti-rove demonstrations. I better fill the tank an leave early.
I remeber reading on another website that Rove's e-mails could not be deleated from the RNC servers now all of a sudden they are missing. Supenona the whole dang RNC server system find any and all Rove E-mails in it and then hang the entire Bushie admin out to dry.
Day after day, week after week, I still see this "non-story" in the news. Report on something that is actually relevant.
"...those who disagree with him [Bush] generally give him little credit for his tenacity and don’t even concede that he is paying a terrible price for his advocacy on these issues." Sorry, I cannot agree with this statement. I would give Bush credit if he had a stated purpose for what he is doing in Iraq and had a plan. The fact that he is totally clueless and keeps repeating the same thing over and over again just reminds me of a stubborn little boy who refuses to listen to anyone. His veto threats are the same as grabbing the ball everyone is playing with and saying "follow my rules or nobody plays. And it will be YOUR FAULT for not following my rules." Admire him? Give him credit? Not a chance.
The smoking gun has been found, and it exists as laptops and Blackberries with RNC email ids, inside the White House. While we all erase email on a regular basis (it's too danged voluminous), when you're in a sensitive position as is Rove and his cohorts in the White House, and you use alternative email ids to discuss sensitive, government issues, how can you then be innocently deleting these emails? It is unethical and most likely illegal, especially when the US Congress is investigating a situation that could have been easily explained without much ado, but is now a huge story due to the implications being levied and the cover-ups by the White House. When you refuse to say anything or cover-up something, you must have done something damaging and potentially illegal, otherwise you'd come out and tell the truth. Go get 'em, US Congress. The lies, cover-ups and secrecy of this administration is unprecedented in US history. They need to be removed from office ASAP and indicted for their crimes. No pardons or immunity from prosecution should be rendered to the upper level thugs, including Bush, Cheney, Rove and Rumsfeld. Their actions have not only resulted in hundreds of thousands of lives lost, but have also led to abuses of power and trust. King George must go, as must his entourage. They should be thankful we have a mostly fair legal system in this country and not a feudal system where revolutions and cruel punishments existed and were rendered.
In every place I have worked, there is a system for keeping all old emails for several years. How said that the current administration isn't up to speed with the rest of the corporate world. <-- sarcasm
Boy I wonder what Nixon would be thinking right now!!!!!!!!!! Remember Ollie North!!!!!!!!!
The truth hurts, don't it Peeps? Sure, the republicans wish it had never been discovered, as they intended; then it would be a non-story just like Godonlyknowswhatelse they've done that hasn't been discovered yet. Rove's central, key role in all this is what makes it a huge story. His campaign "expertise" led to bush promoting him into actually governing. It's very significant that the RNC knew he would delete e-mails to cover his and everyone else in the White House's backside, and they tried to prevent it. Now that the defecation has struck the ventilation, what we're seeing from them is very lame attempts at damage control.
Charles Cook feels "the President is paying a terrible price for his advocacy of these issues" (war, immigration). I think out country is "paying the terrible price" becuase of his Presidency.
Peeps, no one who says this is a non-story has yet explained why something that appears to lead to obstruction of justice isn't important. Add reckless disregard or willful violation of the Presidential Records Act to that as well. If there's a reason why possible deliberate lawbreaking for political gain by the Administration isn't potentially newsworthy I'd like to hear why.
The RNC is as much a liar as is Rove...Rove belongs in the slammer for lif!
Well, Peeps has spoken again. It's a non-issue that the White House and the RNC are violating the Hatch Act; it's a non-issue that the justice system in this country is being politicized more than it has been historically and already is; it's a non-issue that the top law enforcement officer in the country lies and misspeaks to Congress. I believe these are all valid issues. More of an issue than someone getting blown in the White House. Besides, if the same thing had happened to Bush, maybe he wouldn't be waging war in Iraq, on the working class and on the Constitution. Monica Lewinsky may have been a victim (albeit a consenting one) but that's a hell of a lot better than all of us (the 65% who don't support Bush) being victims of our current Administration.
So ppeeps just what is relevent?
Peeps, an Armed Services Recruiter IS LOOKING FOR YOU!!!! UNCLE SAM WANTS YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what is relevant? Well, to me, border security (or lack thereof), the wave of illegals pouring unchecked into this country, high oil prices, terrorism, stuff like that.
It's only a "non-story" to the severely justice impaired. I swear, Bush could appear on TV with a baby on a pitchfork, and the FOX SPEWS team would be defending it.
We need to remember that all of the decider’s thugs are untouchable. This includes king george, rove, cheney, and the Alfred e Newman look-alike her self condi. They will probably blame the “missing e-mails” on Clinton. These people are so far above the law that they truly don’t care what the American public thinks about their underhanded dealings. Is it a surprise to anyone that they are doing what ever they can to keep al as the AG. They need the cover.
Why hasn't bush solved all these problems? bush and repubs had 6 years and NO SLOUTIONS only more and bigger problems cause hes spending American LIVES an $ and time and credibiliy on the iraq quagmire.
Peeps You said high oil prices is one of the things you consider relevant. Is it possible that the war in Iraq, justified by administration lies, and general turmoil in the mid east caused by the Bush administration has something to do with those high prices? And let’s find out what went on in those secret meetings Cheney had with energy company executives.
President Bush is not"paying a terrible price", Mr.Cook. the country is "paying a terrible price" because of his presidency.
Imus is a nonstory. Larry Birkhead's DNA results are a nonstory. This affects whether our justice system treats everyone equally under the law, and whether the US Attorneys were expected to aggressively prosecute voting rights cases, in order to reverse close elections. Its also about pursuing political corruption cases in order to announce indictments in the opposition party before an election. In other words, the Justice Dept was used as an arm of the RNC-with possible violations of the Hatch Act. That is what is in those deleted e-mails, and that is why everyone involved is lying (Gonzales, pleading the 5th (Goodling), claiming loss of memory (Sampson), or refusing to appear under oath (Rove and Miers). Wake up America!
Again Peeps, why is potential lawbreaking by the Administration a non-story?
Hey, Peeps, open your peepers. Rove is the slimiest politico since...ah, no one is corrupt as he is. All Bush scandals lead back to guess who. Subpoena the servers. I think they'll find Swift Boat connections in those e-mails. And by the way, this is as relevant as the White House tapes. Get glasses and get a little better informed.
'President Bush is not"paying a terrible price", Mr.Cook. the country is "paying a terrible price" because of his presidency.' Agree, entirely. President Bush has paid for none of his mistakes in his entire life, and will continue the pattern of passing blame off to others until the end of his presidency. He will have his SMU library, his family and his loyal dog around him. America will be truamatized for a generation because of his divisive, incompetent, arrogant leadership. The permanent bureaucracy in our government has been devastated as has our military. Winners from this debacle are defense contractors and reconstruction giants like KBR, Bechtel, Halliburton who have ripped off the American taxpayer, and who have born almost no accountability for it. He has ruined everything he touched. I was ashamed of Clinton's scandals, but they mostly affected just him. When he left office, the country was in a much better place-this is monumentally worse.
I wouldn’t call Bush tenacious, in my day it was just bone headed. I believe Bush is a liar and a war criminal; he heads the most corrupt administration I have ever seen in my lifetime. This moron thinks all government serves at his pleasure and this explains why he has so little regard for the Constitution he swore to promote and defend. Our government serves the People of America, it is for and of the people not the corporation. As we have seen, the last six years, Bush acts like he is above the law; what a poor excuse of a president. He seems to have made every effort to subvert the Constitution where it responsibly limited his authority. I can’t believe this criminal is still holding public office.
"Everything Constant did he did in style-aggressively,loudly, childishly, wastefully-making himself and mankind look bad.Constant bristled with courage-but it was anything but un-neorotic.Every courageous thing he had ever done had been motivated by spitefulness and by goads from childhood that made fear seem puny indeed"-"The Sirens of Titan"-Kurt Vonnegut
How can all e-mails disappear. Seems to me that there should be backup tapes. If they were backed up regularly, there should be copies somewhere. If they were not deleted deliberately, all done at the same time by others would be gone also. Has that happened? Also, "not relevant" why not. The justice system is one of the major things in this country that is supposed to be above political issues. Somehow this administration seems to believe it is above the law. I have always felt that Bush wants to be a dictator with no one able to tell him what to do regardless of the laws.
Curt in NJ - Actually the prices are high because of world-wide demand. We have plenty of oil reserves in this country - but the tree-huggers won't let us drill in Anwar - guess it's more important for the caribou and polar bears to have a nice, quiet place to copulate.
Well. Peeps, good to know you have some valid concerns. Rather than blame the poor souls who are coming to America to try to feed their families, what about the corporations who hire them in large numbers to work on their farms, in theri meat packing houses and as domestics. If there were no people hiring illegals, why would they come to this country? Most of those giving jobs to illegals are Republican campaign contributers and they seldom are given fines or do jail time for their hiring practices even when they are caught red-handed doing so. The border fence and hiring more border guards are just a distraction. The deeper issue is greed. You also say you are concerned about oil prices. Well, if there were no war in Iraq, if our dependence on foreign oil wasn't so high and, if Saudi Arabia didn't own nearly 9% of our economy, maybe oil prices would be cheaper. By the way, Peeps, the Bush family has been in bed with the Saudis for years and it was Saudi citizens who flew those airplanes into the world trade center. As far as terrorism goes, Peeps, there are a lot more effective ways to fight it than have been done. First of all, you don't fight terrosist by creating more of them as we have done with our invasion of a country who did not attack us and who did not have ties to the organization that did attack us. All we did was create a new breeding ground for more jihadists. You don't fight terror by searching little old ladies' handbags and taking milk from babies trying to board airplanes. You don't fight terrorists by leaving our ports, nuclear facilities and dams virtually unguarded. You don't fight terrists by putting incompetent political cronies in positions of responsibility just because they are loyal to you. I'm gflad these things concern you, Peeps, they concern me too. However, to place all the blame for our immigration problems on poor hispanics trying to make a better life for themselves, to attack a country which didn't attack us first or barbor those that did attack us, and to blame high oil prices on anything but inept government energy policy and too many high ranking government officials in bed with the oil industry is ludicrous. Yet, Peeps, that is what this Administration does and has done. You, like many others, are voting for the same people who are selling you, our jobs, our resources and our future out to the highest bidder.
Peeps, everything this administration does is relevant to me since my kid is currently serving under this commander-in-chief.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROVe is Back! RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRROVE is back to seize all your personal liberities! Run away! Run Away!!!!
no, prices are high because the war in Iraq knocked out production on the second largest reserve in the world. Saddam was killed because Iraq was the swing vote in OPEC. If he met his quotas the price of oil was stable, and if he didn't(and he often didn't just to mess with the international economy) the price of oil soared. You are right, there is a ton of oil out there. However, OPEC and the oil companies want to limit the supply so that they can make a lot of money. There is also a bottleneck in the refining end of the process. It isn't an accident that there has been no serious investment in refineries in the US in the last 15 years. It is all about intentionally limiting the supply and making a lot of money when the demand goes up. The war in Iraq and the Bush presidency is the best thing that ever happened to big oil, look at Exxon's profits last year. Look into the Debeers cartel and their monopoly on diamond production. Diamonds and not rare and are not expensive to produce. Debeers spent more money in the 20th century on closing mines and stopping anyone from competing with their monopoly than they did on producing and marketing diamonds. Who has more power? Large oil companies and OPEC with wealth that you cannot even imagine, or a bunch of hippies working at a non-profit with a tiny budget? It isn't the people who are directing US energy policy.
Peeps, according to a Department of Defense study on energy security drilling in ANWR would do nothing to lower prices or increase the security of our energy supply. Why? Because any oil coming from their would be a drop in the bucket against the international market and would probably be sold in the Far East...where nearly all of the existing Alaskan capacity already goes.
Robert in Salem - I respectfully disagree - but thanks for the 75,000 word response.

OK guys, you know what? I am not going to debate anyone anymore today. It's Friday, I'm blowing out of the office in a few hours and going out to enjoy some cocktails - then watch my kids play baseball tomorrow. Some of you - not all of you - make respectable arguments. But in the end, I'm right and you're wrong. Have a great weekend - especially my friend in Salem!
"Take me out to the ball game...."
Has anybody bothered to check and see if Peeps is actually George Bush?
RRRRRRROVE is coming!!! HHHHHHHALLIBURTON is coming!! Tin soldiers and Nixon coming!!!!!! IIIIIIIIIIIIIRAN-CONTRA is coming!!!! Our liberties are in DANGER!!! run away!!! RUN AWAY!!!!
Peeps, another "cut & run" blog. Guess he can't stnad the heat, so he's getting out of the kitchen. Hope you don't have a hangover at your kids's baseball game.
I always have great weekends Peeps. Life IS better since baseball season opened.
Peeps: Most of your comments match your name quite well! Peeps are little marshmallow chickens but you are probably just a large common chicken hawk! You come here, throw out a few biased comments, claim that it is debating, ignore or marginalize responses to your alleged debate, and declare victory! You should share some of the BS flags with Durwood Pope, however, in all fairness, he at least attempts to give valid reasons for his comments.
Peeps, just like a true politician...ditching out early. Your conclusion is incorrect: you ARE rigfht, but we are progressive!
RE: oil prices. The reason why Democrats have opposed drilling in Alaska is simple: Not a single drop of oil would end up in America. Oil is more expensive in Europe than it is in America. Oil companies would not sell the alaska oil to americans for less $$ than they can sell it to the Europeans for. It is not an exaggeration to say that ZERO OIL from Alaska would end up in America. The price of gas in america would go down ZERO CENTS. Drilling in Alaska is still a future possibility that Democrats will consider. HOWEVER, the only way Democrats would support drilling in Alaska is if the federal government "owns" the oil and could sell it for a lot of money. In other words: only if the federal government pays the oil companies to EXTRACT it, and the fed keeps the oil. Then whatever money is made from the oil would essentially be tax dollars. The alaska oil could pay for Social Security for a few years. A few years may not sound like a lot, but when you figure how much SS costs, and how difficult it would be to find those funds elsewhere, a few years is a big deal. But my main point about the alaska oil is this: NOT A SINGLE DROP OF OIL WOULD GO TO AMERICANS OR THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT IF REPUBLICANS WROTE THE LEGISLATION. it truly is that simple.
I believe all this is about firing some judges which he has every right to do so if they got rid of some e mails i cant see some big deal out of it remember clinton fired all 93 judges to put his people in those positions and I dont remember all this back then probably because its not against the law. But then from reading all these statements all of you have jotted down here nothing he has done is legal I guess they need to be from the dnc and it would all be ok for all of you.
I am a 71 yr. old male who has been somewhat of a political junkie since elementary school. I was hooked on a subject there called "Current Events". Without a doubt, this current administration isthe worst, by far, of my life-time and it would not be unreasonable to assume, the worst in the history of our great nation. Firing Federal Prosecuters for political reasons undermines the very foundation of our justice system. Such actions should not be consideed "politics as usual" which this administration is trying to claim. Also on last night's news there was a piece about a highly regarded SEC inspector who dared to investigate a contribiter to BUSH'S campaign that wa involved in questionable activity on WALL STREET in regards to HEDGE funds. He said he was told to take a vacation during his investigation and one day before returning he recieved a phone call informing him that that he was FIRED. Are we becoming A Banana Republic" with greedy corps and Wall Street taking over our lives?
Chris from Abileen, Ryan from MI and Darren are about the only ones who ever stay in there to fight. I would like to see one difference get debated without it being the description Black sheep gave. Take Alberto - the right simply refuses to accept that a politically motivated justice department is bad for all Americans and a total defiance of at least the spirit of the Constitution. They can't grok that - not with Bush in office. They thought Reno was "Jackboot Janet," but this perversion, and all those before it under PRESIDENT DaddysaidIcould is OK. There's no way to argue with that. It's like trying to tell a cat that it isn't a cat.
