WH responds to email controversy

From NBC's Kelly O'Donnell
Deputy White House press secretary Dana Perino says that so far in its review, the White House has found "no basis to conclude any improper intent" in the use of Republican Party email accounts that critics say allow staffers to circumvent White House record-keeping requirements.  Perino says she "could not rule out" that as many as 5 million emails are missing but stressed the White House does not know the extent of what maybe lost. Twenty-two current White House staffers hold RNC email accounts -- 50 during the course of the two terms. About 1,000 people work for the Executive Office of the President. All White House official records are to be preserved indefinitely under the Presidential Records Act

Regarding Karl Rove -- who is in Portland, OR today doing fundraising -- the White House says that in 2004, his email accounts at the RNC were exempted from the RNC's practice of an automatic 30-day purge that applies to other users. In January 2006, Rove's ability to use a "double delete function" was removed so he could no longer manually delete and then empty his delete file. Officials say this applied only to Rove as far as they know now. Officials could not explain why or what prompted this.

The White House says an internal review is underway, and it has reached out to -- but not yet hired -- outside computer forensic experts to seek their expertise to determine what may be retrievable on servers. "Resources are being dedicated to resolve this quickly." Responding to charges from Democrats who claim the White House is "stonewalling", Perino acknowledges the "screw-up" has put them in "an uncomfortable position to be in." But she says the White House disclosing its mistakes on email is an effort to be fully forthcoming.

'Plumbers'would have told you that you do not thread soft copper fittings onto galvanized pipe. They would not have given away the ICBM-re-entry ranch to the Chinese because they were FOBs.Wanna know why Congress no longer allows 'presdiential waivers'?Well, thats why.[although it doesnt stop the now-spreading technology from allowing the Iranians[soon] or the Chinese[right now] from putting it down on a dime in a Chicago parking lot but thats what you get when you have FOBs instead of plumbers].
YOYOYO Lee what year is today. So what the hell does any of this old stuff you are trotting out good for. Lee you do realise the house was controlled by republicans. So if you want to cry, then cry for the idiot republicans who did nothing. If they did not think it was as big a problem as you do then go blame the republican house for not doing their job. So quit your whining and accept some responsibility. Why is that so hard for republicans. Why are they never responsible for anything. They just keep offering up sacrificial lambs: Paul O'neill, Oliver North, John Stockman, the list goes on. Funny, none of their bosses took responsibility for their employee's. They all fell on the sword for the republican in charge. Then they wait to be rewarded with a show on conservative radio or television.
! - It only sounds like crap to someone with an IQ of 65. I felt the same way about high energy particle physics when I was in the third grade.
The way for the White House to put the email controversy to rest if for George Bush to get on TV and say that he will personally investigate and fire anyone who is found to have destroyed email sought in a congressional investigation. That worked so well in the treasonous spy outing of Valerie Plame.
Steve Turner - Log Cabin syrup? Would those be Log Cabin Republicans?
Was there a line in the song that went, "Every vow your break"? That would go along with the Bush administration's vow to uphold the Constitution.
Whitewater and Monica didn't make me think of Watergate, but THIS sure does. Don't we have enough on Bush and Cheney to impeach? What have we let our country come to?
What kind of American doesn't want to know why eight perfectly competent, correction, exceptionally competent, U.S. Prosecuters were singled out to be fired mid term? Why was it said they were fired for performance reasons, when they all had excellent ratings? All you have to do is see them on TV to recognize these were top drawer people. What kind of American wants Rove to get away with meddling in the Justice Dept? A die hard, partisan, Bush-worshipping Republican, thats who. The rest of us want to see to see politics taken out of the Justice Dept. For this administration and any future Democratic administrations. Its called a principle.
Just passing Thru Jonestown--You are obviously a great connoisseur of Kool-Aid.
Hey !- !! !! !! !!! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! !! Have a nice day.
Bob fro Pheonix - if you were looking for the "Bush is a good president" blog, you ARE lost....SUSAN - TRY, just TRY to figure out there are two different people at work here - "!" - who is what you say he is, and "!!" (TWO EXCLAMATION POINTS). You really disappoint me, after I've already patiently explained it to you once.
JIrby, quite an astute, sophisticated response, wow, I only wonder at how high your IQ must be!! Seriously though, there seems to be zero response when a legitimate, logical statement is made that is not just a complete agreement with the leftist bickering on this blog. Bob, Phoenix pointed out that the President has every right to send off any of these prosecutors whenever and for whatever reason. Why are we not focusing on true issues, like the democrats stalling the funding of soldiers (like my brother) that are proudly (yes, some of us are proud not ashamed to be American as many of you have said on this blog) serving our country in Iraq to help them establish a democracy as so many countries stepped out to help us a short 200 years ago.
The President and his men is becoming such a joke to Americans and to the world. The scary thing is that even if a Special Proscecutor is asssigned to investigate the disappearance of these E-mails, Bush has stacked the proscecutors in his favor. So will we get a fair investigation by any Special Prosceutor that is in this Justice Department? Bush is so corrupt and he and his men laugh at us all. He has no respect for his office and I for one would be happy if this Congress started the Impeachment process. Bush will go down as the most corrupt president in American History.
I'm not witch hunting. One does not have to be hunting to stumble over the trash left on the trail by this cohort of calculating, carnivorous cretins. Obfuscate the truth with a Hill/Bill parade of transgressions that upset your version of moral sensibilities if you like, but with all the "failures" and "corruption" of the Clinton admn. several glaring differences are noted. The constitution was not shredded. Personal liberties were not infringed upon by our own government. Trillions in our taxes are being squandered on a centuries old squabble. Thousands of people are being injured and killed. Korean counterfitters are getting their money back because the stalwart man of Texas blinked and caved under emotional blackmail of would-be nukes. Yup, that really compares to a failed real estate deal and lying about consensual oral sex. And finally, does the phrase "must not enter into any involvement or behavior the can BE PERCIEVED as having a conflict of interest" mean anything to any astute legal ethics scholar?
Thank you Mr. (!) for adding to the chiken coop with your dillusional rightist crap. But here's the point: Neocons like you are at a disadvantage in that you have nothing but brainstem function. It's therefore unlikely you'd recognize a fact if you saw one. Doubtless you're still looking for weapons of mass distraction?

Bush and company are incapable of telling the truth. Must be a trait associated with the Repuglican party. (their motto: FOR THE RICH, BY THE RICH).
Sorry Susan in Nebraska - that was a different Susan I took through the 1 Vs. !! deal..... For the 1,000,00th time, right wing lock-steppers - a justice department tuned for political operations is BAD FOR ALL AMERICANS. Remember that "impartial justice" jazz? A politically motivated, ideologically-driven court system is how people like Stalin maintain an air of legitimacy. But then, a lot of people loved Stalin, too.
The film on Bush's primary campaign in 2000 shown this weekend on MSNBC really brought things into focus for me. His west Texas country manner mixed with the seemingly sincere religious convictions completely suckered into his tent half of the American public. Watching the film you can see he's relaxed and personable, and it's easy to see how he got in position to be appointed president. He's all style and little substance. This leads me to conclude that the problems we have are chiefly due to Rove, Cheney and all the other neocons and religious fanatics in the west wing.
This ''old stuff'',Bob,is a portion of a very new threat.Kay,ElBaradei, and Blix are all worried that a nuclear device, even that atop a missle will be 'detonated in our lifetimes'in order to kill large numbers of people, and it will eminate from a rogue regime such as an Iran, which has the capabilites that the NKs,Paks,Indians, and Chinese have because it came from America first. An entire world is destabilized due to the actions of a president and campaign contributors.Iraq,Bush,Cheney will come and go.The ICBMS and their increased capabilities will remain.
"it all depends upon what the definition of "is" is." ".. well. I really can't remember." ".. I never had sexual realtions with that woman." Ah, such convenient short memories, saves everyone from the truth.
Thank God jtb was here to point out, once again, "It's Clinton's fault." THAT sure saves a lot people from the truth.
Missed the point, Lee. your concrete ideation is showing. It's called HYPOCRISY: not appling the same yardstick or standards to each Presidential administration: giving one (and his wife) a pass, and crucifying the another. Either condemn both , according to the alleged crimes of lying, deceit, and obsfuscation, OR give BOTH a PASS. Why in God's name is that so hard for Libs to comprehend? P.S.: to refresh your memory, the Libs and the Democrats and the Liberal media, gave the Clintons, Berger, and Reno, a pass, in spite of Republican political machinations.. Hey, let the Dems in congress subpoena every scrap of paper in GW's administration. Hypocrisy is what it is: pretending it doesn't apply will not change the character flaw.
No jtb - YOU miss the point and concrete idealism sure seems an operative concept. You want to go on and on about 1994 and ignore what goes on today. Why in God's name is it so hard for Bush republicans to understand that? Clinton was impeached - remember? You want to pillory one and excuse the other, when the one you want to excuse is a war criminal and a traitor. Good choice.
Karl Rove along with our president and many republicans in our government are all memebers of satanic cults including "skull and bones secret society" and "the bohemian grove". They fooled all the right wingers and the naive republicans, they are doing satans' will and evil bidding and are destroying our country, when will America wake up and realize that the powers of darkness are very real and are working at the highest levels of our own government. In the bible, the appostle Paul warns us in Ephesians 5:11 "take no part in the fruits of darkness, rather reprove them". by supporting this corrupt, imcompertent, evil administration, that's exactly what the religious right is doing and the sad part is, they have no idea that our president is a satan worshiper. A wolf in sheeps clothing, the bible claerly warns us of these kind of people, claiming to be christians, but we would know them by thier friuts. I have to say that the fruits of this administration smell pretty roten just like the place they will spend eternity.
Secret societies offer no more shelter for those in power to collude than do public spaces. The elite will always find places to collude with eachother whether it's at the Bohemian Club, Skull & Bones, etc. "Secret" societies are harmless and do not provide new avenues or opportunities for those who wish to consolidate or maintain power. This is not meant as a defense to the elite but rather to the clubs who simply embrace the right to private assembly.
How is this the only story on msn, and why is this not the number one story in the nation? Justice no longer exists in this country, and it isn't even the top story. MSN look at how many people took time to reply to this story, and then look at how many replied to your "top stories". What's up? This story is not even covered in the politics headlines. How is that?
