Thompson meets with House Republicans

From NBC's Joel Seidman
Sixty-three House Republicans attended a private meeting on Capitol Hill this afternoon with former GOP Sen. Fred Thompson, to discuss his potential White House bid. The attendees were a Who's Who of House conservatives: Reps. Dan Burton, Steve Buyer, Shelley Moore Capito, Don Manzullo, and Zack Wamp (who organized the event).

After the meeting, Thompson told the press, "I came over to see some old friends, meet some new friends, and I will see you again." That's all he said about his possible bid. But the members who attended the meeting said they were excited and called Thompson "presidential."

Joel: Thank you so much for the synopsis of Sen. Thompson's luncheon with GOP legislators, and thanks for covering it.
Woo Hoo !! Go, Fred!
Run Fred Run!!!
Joel, Thanks - this is the first word I got on what happened at Sen. Thompson's luncheon meeting. Great work - please keep us posted. I am very interested in Fred's possible candidacy.
"Old friends Old friends Sat on a park bench Like bookends A newspaper blown through the grass Falls on the round toss Off the high shoes of old friends"-Old Friends -Simon and Garfunkel
"Old friends, Winter companions, The old men Lost in their overcoats, Waiting for the sunset, The sounds of the city, Sifting through trees,Settle like dust On the shoulders Of old friends."-Old Friends-Simon and Garfunkel
"Can you imagine us Years from from today, Sharing a park bench quietly? How terribly strange to be seventy,Old friends, Memory brushes the same years Silenty sharing the same fears"- Old Friends"-Paul Simon/Simon and Garfunkel
sounds positive.... I will await his decision. Character, honor, respect, dignity these all still matter to Americans..I for one remember the disrespect shown for the Office Of President of The United States in 1992 to 2000..that was enough.. Run Fred..Run
Wake Up!!! Does anyone know that 233 Iraqis were killed or found dead today?? 183 dead in Baghdad ("Surge City")? What a pathetic news organization that focuses on Imus and Fred (Who?) Thompson while completely ignoring the fact that Baghdad and Iraq are imploding. Un-freaking-believable.
Thanks for the report. Anyway we could get the entire list of GOP Congressmen who attended?
Bob - YES! and covers the tragic death of 33 VT students 24/7. Are the deaths, American, Iraraqi and Afghan, any less tragic or important?????
Or is that Bob of Columbine?
Bob,Denver just remember from the post of the last few days those 200 Iraqi's that were killed were nothing but fodder for the "War Machine" but the 32 that died at Virginia Tech at the hand of a psychotic "terrorist" received world recognition. One thing is for sure our government has proven that even with all the money spent on security, all the special training, all the talk of fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here, and winning the war against terror all they can really do is analyze it to death after it happens. Just look at the attacks in London and every where else around the world, they can tell you what happened but they can't stop it. Has anyone else noticed that the ones they "say" they have caught had been planning their attack for years, were they really a threat?
This would be best nominee for GOPers. Another hollow actor. Assured DEM win in 08.
Another "B" actor wanting to be President. Does anyone really know anything about this fellow? The GOP has got to be desperate at this stage. What is his stance on the war in Iraq? What is his stance on healthcare, the economy, the homeless, women's and minority rights and all of the other relevant domestic issues that both daddy & sonny-boy have avoided or botched?
fred has a deep voice like cheney, commanding appearance like cheney, seems self assure and condident like cheney, is fred a cheney clone?
I HOPE SEN.THOMPSON RUNS, IM SUPPORTING SEN MCAIN NOW BUT ,I DONT BELIEVE HE WILL WIN. SEN THOMPSON IS A CONSERVATIVE LIKE REAGAN. WE NEED SOMEONE WHO CAN,BEAT SEN. HILLARY CLINTON!

It saddens me that the best the right has to offer is another cardboard cutout fascimile of a person. "Okay Fred, stand on that line, speak these words, and remember! Dignity! Gravitas! Make 'em believe it!" We're still suffering the damage of Reagan abandoning the previous decades push towards environmentally sound policies and energy independence. i worry that the extraordinarily gullible American public will eat this BS up yet again.
Agreed, Bob. Where are the graphics and photos and bios for the poor bastards that get holes drilled in their knees before being executed in a Baghdad dump? Know the difference between VI and Iraq? We're not culpable for VI, but each and every one of us is culpable for Iraq. The Holy Flying Monkey went with our blessing.
Nick, so far every word out of his mouth has been what ever President Bush wants or said "Ditto". But then again that has pretty much been the stance of every one of the Republican candidates. Then we have the Democratic contenders who can't seem to take a firm stance on any issue.
If anyone doesn't know who Fred Thompson is or what his stand is on the issues, you can go to www.ontheissues.org/senate/Fred_Thompson and see his voting record while he was on the hill as the Honorable Senator from Tennesee.
