Reid fires back at Bush, GOP

From NBC's Ken Strickland
Without acknowledging his comments yesterday when he said the "war is lost," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said President Bush and his allies "attacked those of us with courage to ask the tough questions and tell the truth about Iraq." He described their criticism of him and other Democrats as "an effort to shift attention from this Administration's failed policies" in Iraq.

In a remarks on the Senate floor after Bush's speech today, Reid did not repeat the "war is lost" comments. Instead, he said that "the longer we continue down the president's path the further we will be from responsibly ending this war." He repeated the sentiment two additional times in the speech and added, "but there is still a chance to change course and we must change course."

Reid also refuted the GOP claims following Reid's controversial remarks yesterday that Democrats don't support the troops and want to cut funding for them. "We take a back seat to no one in supporting our troops," Reid said. "And we will never abandon our troops in a time of war."

Reid also said: "The White House spin machine is working overtime in an effort defend its failed policies… I believe supporting our troops means giving them the funding they need and a strategy they deserve... It means stopping the partisan attacks and it means spending time working together in a bipartisan basis to develop an effective strategy to successfully end this war."

The Iraq "war" is like a sporting event to the GOP. It doesn't matter how you play the game, but just whether you win or lose. And to lose is awful because what you really lose is face, forget the lose of thousands of dead troops and thousands more maimed. They are merely the players in the game and can always be replaced. The GOP wants more war. Wouldn't it be grand if all those who want this war were drafted and put on the front lines? Then we could bring our regular troops home for a much needed rest. Go for it!
It is WAY pas time for people like Reid to stop apologizing for telling the truth. He should have came out today and upped the ante. The Democrats need to stop letting the Republicans frame the discussion. It is time to call a moron a moron...to his face.
Gen. Petraeus is on record as stating there is no military solution for Iraq, just an Iraqi political one. There IS a REAL war, and our way of life is at risk. It's between Islamic fundamentalist heretics and democracy. However we came to be involved in Iraq, and I think the Bush Administration has bungled both the reason for Iraq and the execution of the "war" we need strong troops and united public opinion and sacrifice to defend against the REAL war. Being pinned down and bleeding in Iraq is precisely what Al-Quaida wants. And, if we leave without victory, we WILL embolden the real enemy. Quagmire, anyone? There's been a fairly balanced (for them) PBS series called "America at the Crossroads' and I was struck by a statement from an Imam who (basically) said that " Democracy and Islam cannot coexist. A democracy decides by the people's opinion. In Islam, God decides and He does not need the people's opinion." Somebody smarter than the current Administration needs to come up with a solution, quick. Is Reid right? The Iraqis have to solve their own problems; bigger ones loom for us.
For giving aid and comfort to the enemy you are hereby convicted of treason.
I support our troops, however, funds need to be cut to end this war. The President thinks he's king and he's not.
Well, at least he is now saying that we can win this war. Oh wait. Nope. Again, he cannot bring himself to say that we must, or even we can, win this war. The closest he came was to say "to successfully end this war." What that means is to surrender in style. Senator Reid needs to resign his leadership position. If Trent Lott has to stand down for his comments, going on the Senate floor as the leading Democrat and saying that this war is lost should be grounds for resignation.
Way to go Harry Reid. You're doing well. Keep it up. This is exactly what the Legislative Branch is supposed to do: keep the Executive Branch in line when they clearly have drifted wayward.
He said we lost...pure an simple....he said WE LOST! There is no excuse for that. Now Senator Reid is acting like a small child would when caught misbehaving...he's shifting the blame to everyone but himself. I'm afraid this country has very little hope when childish, immature people like Sen. Harry Reid are not only elected, but put into positions of power.
Reid, the old treasonous crook, should resign his position and return his swinish corpus to Nevada. The people of nevada need him, America does not.
What Harry Reid did is treason. He MUST resign, or we MUST impeach him! How dare he say something so offensive and dangerous. Our troops are going to die because he's just encouraged terrorists from around the world to celebrate that they have defeated America!
"an effort to shift attention from this Administration's failed policies" Only heard that one about 1000 times in the last year. Mean while we're still waiting for that better way to make a change for a new direction.
Was it Copernicus that was prosecuted for saying the Earth is round? All Reid did is state the obvious. This "war" was "lost" before it started.
Christy Adams--Our troops are going to die and have died because of the incompetence of the President of the United States and his Administration. When he let Osama Bin Laden go in Tora Bora, HE committed treason! When his Administration released the name of a covert CIA agent during time of War for political reasons THEY committed treason! When that COWARD of a "President" prolonged this mistake for the sake of his own vain legacy He committed treason again! The "President" and all of his "men" MUST resign or be impeached! I can yell as loud as you can and I will! The divisions that this imbecile has created are deep and may be permanent. The damage to this country may be irreparable.
Perhaps a little less caffeine, Christy. Unfortunately, it appears you "misspoke" in charging Senator Reid with treason. Many, many americans (68%+) are quite sure you actually meant Bush and Cheney MUST be impeached. Must have been a typo.
Reid is nothing but a stick, a reed, or more appropriately conceptualized, an empty shaft stuck in a swamp of treason, treachery, and national transgressions. Off with the small bird head of this banty rooster. As least recall this jerk so that he might spend his last sordid days with his relatives in a windowless, rodent infested trailer in Searchlight, NV.
Why doesn't someone point out to Mr. Bush that HE'S the one who is causing the delay in funding the troops due to his stubbornness? A majority of Americans want this war over, so he's the one holding up the passage of the bill that will grant the funding. I'm tired of hearing him say it's the Democrats. And by the way, the Republicans will still think we're winning the war when we're forced to fight our way OUT of Iraq.
Reid says what is obvious to all but some Americans who have neither the intellect nor the courage to stand up and advocate for the truth. Those who suffer the most are our children, who are fighting and dying under the malfeasance of the worst leadership in American history. I hope Reid is only the first of many...
"For giving aid and comfort to the enemy you are hereby convicted of treason." I agree, lets charge the President and Vice-President with treason for creating more terrorists, giving comfort to the enemy by helping them recuit, and for making us less safe in this world. Being the police, in the middle of a foreign civil war, is no place for our brave men and woman.
I say...Give'em hell Harry! And for everyone here mentioning the word treason. Get a grip. Sharing your opinion in not treason. Saying we have a failed policy or lost the war is not treason. Questioning the intelligence of our leadership given the state of the Iraq War is not treason. I also find it ironic that those who stake claim to having true "American" values (that's you Christy Adams, Everson and Rick) have the a fundamental lack of understanding of our government. If you have a HS diploma, you must have had a class on American Government and you would realize the constitution does not have a clause for the impeachment of a senator. Not to mention the one place in America that free speech is absolutely free (no prosecution for slander, hate speech or inciteful speech) is on the floor of the U.S. Congress. If Harry Reid wanted to yell "Fire" on the floor of the Senate or call George Bush a felon, he could without consequence. If you claim to be American, understand what it takes to be an American. The GOP, George Bush and the rest of the wingnuts here don't have the market cornered on that definition. Grow up.
We can't win in Iraq because we aren't Iraqis. Sunnis or Shiites or Kurds or some combination of the above will eventually win in Iraq. America will be remembered as just one more cruel and heartless invader in the 5,000 year history of the fertile crescent. So what is victory? Our side (whoever that is) wins and we continue our defacto occupation from permanent bases on Iraqi soil? The oil companies win and continue to profit from obscene production sharing agreements? The blame for losing (whatever that is) gets shifted to the Democrats in time for the '08 elections? Just what is it? In the meantime the death count rises and US moral authority falls. There is no victory - just loss. We must leave now. m
Harry and the other opposition members in congress should be MORE agressive in calling for an end this tragic, pointless waste of lives and treasure. There will always be authority-worshiping wingnuts as in this thread and elsewhere who will go along with anything their Dear Leader tells them to, despite whatever values they may claim to uphold. The only appopriate response is to call them out for what they are: hypocrites, liars or simply weak-minded fools. Cheney can lie as much as he wants, but Iraq had no involvement in September 11th. Al Queda was not in Iraq until we went there. Breaking our miltary and wrecklessly discarding our influence and relationships with our allies was exactly what Bin Laden wanted us to do. If anyone has betrayed his country, it is Bush.
Things just keep looking worse for the republicans these days don't they? I watched a kid break a lamp at a store the other day. That kid amediately pointed at his brother and said "he did it". That's going to be the republicans when this is over with. Iraq is going to be another American loss, not dissimilar to Vietnam, and it is going to be the republicans pointing at the democrats. I can already see it happening here today. Of course they are going to look stupid doing it, because everybody knows who's to blame.
Reid is NOT "telling the truth". He is spouting treasonous garbage as a disgusting political move to get a Democrat in the White House. He does NOT care for the troops or the USA. He cares for his own power and the Democratic Party - nothing more. THIS IS TREASON.
Bush started the war, Bush lost the war. Why is it treason for someone to admit that Bush lost the war? It isn't like Reid said he wants to war to be lost, he simply admitted the painful truth that Bush's inept management has already lost it, and soldiers and Iraqis are still dying because Bush can't admit it is all over.
First there was the GREAT WALL OF CHINA. Then there was the ROMAN WALL In GREAT BRITON. Then there was the BERLIN WALL. Then there was the GREAT US|MEXICAN WALL and NOW we have the GREAT WALL OF BAGHDAD. April 20, 2007 U.S. soldiers are building a three-mile wall to protect a Sunni Arab enclave surrounded by Shiite neighborhoods in a Baghdad area “trapped in a spiral of sectarian violence and retaliation,” the military said. They said the concrete wall, including barriers as tall as 12 feet, “is one of the centerpieces of a new strategy by coalition and Iraqi forces to break the cycle of sectarian violence” in Baghdad. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18227048/ I do not recall ANY of the previous Walls solving ANY problems. This is GREAT GENERAL PATRAEUS' plan to WIN THE "WAR" in Iraq? Nah, it could not be his idea it must of come from the Greatest Military leader of all time: GEORGE W. BUSH This is our TAXPAYERS MONEY AT WORK? I guess to Moat they started building in September of 2006 did not work out well. The new plan was to secure Baghdad by encircling it with a MOAT. This was supposed to keep the bad guys out. Our GI's have been manning backhoes and bulldozers since last July. I thought that the Kings in Castles found out that MOATS did not work around 1400 A.D. How many millions did this MOAT cost the US taxpayers? Gimme a break! http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14847580/ Jim Frego Grants Pass, OR
IMPEACH THE LYING SOB ALREADY!!!!!
No one died when Clinton lied. Has bush killed enough inocent Iraqi women and children yet. IMPEACH IMPEACH IMPEACH!
Senator Reid said the Iraq War is Lost! He further clarifies it as there must be a Political end, a Diplomatic Solution. To acheive a 'Diplomatic' solution, give and take is involved, negotiating and giving up something. Okay, Senator Reid, please tell us all just what it is we should give up to Terrorists to achieve a lasting peace? Iraqi oil fields? Israel? Our Second Amendment Rights? Just exactly what should Americans give up to acheive this solution?
I am not being facetious. I am not trying to bait anyone. I am not trying to put anyone on the spot. Many on these message boards say you cannot negotiate with a terrorist--all they understand is force. So, does anyone have an idea of how the US should end this war? We could double or triple the number of troops. But that would mean reinstating the draft, because our present military is spread too thin to continue the way we are. Some GIs will say they don't want to serve alongside a draftee, but draftees fought well and honorably in WWII. I have heard that the quickest way to defeat an enemy is to demoralize him, so we could destroy the mosques. Or we could demonstrate we mean business by pulling our troops back from a chosen city and bombing it to the ground (ala Dresden, Germany). Or as a last resort, we could use an A bomb. This would not only stop the war in its tracks, as it did WWII, but would make it clear to Iran that even though they develop a nuke bomb, we have more of them than any other nuke-armed nation. Some people who post on these message boards seem to be knowledgeable, and they post intelligent responses to others' question, but, although many say the US must win in Iraq, no one has offered a workable strategy on exactly how to accomplish this. There must be options other than those mentioned above. I'd sincerely like to read others' solutions. Not just opinions, but honest-to-God workable solutions.
As long as we don't say we lost, I guess we win. So, let's do like Britain did. Let's leave and say we won. The Bush administration couldn't say enough about how wonderful it was that the British left. Let's just say we won. Will that do? Won't everyone be happy then?
For those who fail to acknowledge that the war in Iraq is truly, now a civil war and still support the Bush policy, I say have you even given any non partisan consideration to the facts? Did the 911 murders come from Iraq? No, they came from Syria via Afganistan! Do you still believe there are WMD's in Iraq? Then why haven't we been able to find them? Have you thought about the fact that while we are trying to stand between two waring tribes in Iraq, the Talaban is reclaiming Afganistan! Are you able to think at all outside the misrepresentations of G.W.Bush and his staff of "advisors"? Is your brain able to look at the facts and still come to the conclusion that democracy will work in a country which is now dedicated to their vision of a God who demands that their faith and salvation is ensured by killing the infidels? Please, please people, open your God given minds and THINK! The Bush vendetta must be ended, and the people of Iraq allowed to form the kind of government that suits them best! These childern of Allah do not think the way we do, but at least some of them are able to think! After all our country didn't come to any kind of stability without a civil war. What makes the Bushies think that we can shove democracy down their throats. What works for us doesn't necessarily work for them! Hear this, they don't think as we do!
Two months into the "surge" and 194 troops killed. Bush said "We have seen some of the highest casualty levels of the war" and then goes on to say "....we can expect THE PATTERN TO CONTINUE." So look for more casualties, more wounded in the months to come, according to the barstool pilot. He acts like he is playing with toy soldiers, not men and women who have families, dreams and hopes. But then, since his daughters are not patriotic enough to volunteer to fight in daddy's war, he has nothing to lose.
Yes...Reid did not state anything that wasn't already included in the Iraq Study Group report. Impeach him?.....for what? You have a COMPLETE moron at the top, in W. and his partner, Dickless Cheney. They need impeached and immediately.
So now the right wants an impeachment for speaking the truth? What's the matter, everson? Couldn't find anyone getting bj? rick? You're a law unto yourself, now? "The war is lost, under the so-called leadership of PRESIDENT Drunken Monkey." Am I now "convicted of treason"? Jeez - four years of illegal war and the right wing calls the truth-teller "treasonous." You right wing nuts sure take yourselves seriously over all the wrong issues. Galileo was a put under house arrest for saying there was any such thing as a vacuum. It looks to me like the Bush Republicans have replaced the vacuum left by the Catholic church for persecuting anyone who doesn't toe the ideological mark. Let's have an Inquisition, you guys!
You right wingers are starting to get pretty radical. I pray none of you get ahold of explosives!

Define Inquisition; Severe Questioning? Inquiry? What?
Go back to the Senate floor and this time Senator Reid, start telling the blunt, unvarnished, plain-speaking truth; Bush, Cheney, Rummie, Condi, Hadley, et al need a Bill of Impeachment on the House floor for incompetent leadership, high crimes of stupidity, lying, deceiving, falsifying and taking the US into a war of conquest. Tell them Senator Reid that their false accusation of not supporting the troops is their position, not any others. Tell them about the lack of personal armor, tell them about the unarmored Hummers STILL sitting in Kuwait waiting for the armor plates, tell them about the unarmored supply trucks in daily convoys, tell them about the combat damaged equipment STILL unrepaired and the last GOP Congress NOT funding the repair bill of 19 Million dollars, but instead appropriating 20 MILLION dollars for a 'Victory' celebration, tell them about the units that rotate out leaving their equipment for their replacements because it was not issued to them before they arrived in Iraq AND tell them that even in the face of all else, the military is still spending BILLIONS on a Space Missile Defense System that has not shot down a single Damned thing! Then after that laundry listing, Ask pointedly, Now, President Bush, who is 'REALLY' not supporting out troops? Then tell them that you are asking for a Bill of Impeachment for High Crimes and Misdemeanors and if you want to push the envelope, ask for a bill appointing a Special Prosecutor to investigate the actions of this administration in starting, continuing and mismanaging this FUBAR effort and investigate possible criminal acts, and illegally suspending Constitutional protections for Americans and violating their civil rights. That’s what you need to say; stop being a wimpy apologist, call the dumb ba*ta*d a liar! THEN PROCEED WITH THE IMPEACHMENT PROCESS. When that is accomplished, indict Chimpo and Shooter, give’em a fair trial, then hang the guilty crooks and proceed with forfeiture of his and Cheney’s ill-gotten gains and apply it directly to the national DEFICIT.
Correction, we didn't lose. Bush lost. But like Osama, he doesn't have enough lives to pay for his crime. Neither do the simple fools who voted for him.
Won what? What is it we will be winning? We are way done in Iraq and yes folks, WE HAVE LOST THIS MESS WE STARTED!! Now little monkey Bush wants to lose the war AND embarrass us further. We are spending all our countrys money and resourses on this disaster that Bush created! He cares NOTHING about our troops at this point- only about his own legacy and political standing, which is crapola.

You know - an Inquisition - where everyone suspected of not "thinking right" is tortured until they "confess," and confessing early doesn't do you any good. C'mon- you know - where in the name of all that's right and pure tongues are pulled out and rectums spread with expanding mechanical devices to put everyone on the proper path - Bush good. War good.
OK, folks, lots of talk but no answers to the question I posed on April 20. HOW do we get out of Iraq with dignity and with the least loss of lives (our military and Iraqi civilians)? Impeaching the main players of either party will not get the US out of Iraq. (While impeachment proceedings are ongoing, more people will die in the war.) One option I didn't mention in my previous post--talk with Russia and the UK; perhaps they will tell us what they did wrong when fighting in the same region in the previous century. BTW, I do not personally advocate the solutions in this or the previous post. I threw them out to move the board dialogue from negative unproductive name-calling to hopefully positive productive ideas on how to end the war. Apparently, no one has any?
Awesome comments from the people and party with sense. In case you don't know, when Clinton had troops anywhere, the republicans couldn't yell to get them outta there louder. Now, while this moron and his henchmen have demolished our military and smeared our reputation in the world, the republicans look like total fools for voting for any and every illegal step he takes. That is why they lost in 2006 and why they will lose in 2008. I look forward to their defeat.
None of the current liberals have the first clue about geo-political events, or military matters. WE NEVER INTENDED TO LEAVE IRAQ! 62 years after V-E Day we still have a whole armor corps based in Germany. Almost 61 years after WWII ended we are in Japan. 109 years after the end of the Spanish American War we still have a base in CUBA, Guantanamo Bay (Gittmo)! We've been in Saudi Arabia since Aug. 2nd, 1990, and Kuwait since February 1991! I can go on and on.Why is it the default position of the ignorant liberals and a few so-called "moderates" that we NEED to leave Iraq? Iraq is THE central front in the war on terror, and you want to concede it to the enemy, even though the troops WANT to be there. It’s an all volunteer military, and nearly everyone had a choice to reenlist or join since AFTER the invasion. Now I know why only 9-11% of the current US Military votes democrat. I met only 2 liberals when I was in the service. I thought it was a BRILLIANT military strategy, to invade Iraq after Afghanistan.... Look at a map for God's sake. Creating a democracy in the HEART of the Middle East - the land of Mesopotamia, the Garden of Eden - creates a land void of Wahhabbism and state controlled media that preaches violence and propaganda against the infidel. It's going to take a full generation, 20 years or more to start to fully work, but it no doubt will. In the short term it will deny the enemy a safe haven backed with state funds from oil proceeds. And immediately, it GUARANTEED that Sadaam would never again attempt to produce or acquire WMDs. We knew the terrorists will follow us wherever we go. We knew they would regroup and flock to us as partisans. Afghanistan is the most inhospitable place on the planet to defend territory. It goes from 110 to below freezing in 24 hours, with arid deserts and elevations regularly above 16,000 ft., has millions of places to hide, and gives the advantage to smaller, more mobile forces (ie. small groups of poorly organized jihadists.) It was time to open a 2nd front. HERE's the problem. Bush CANNOT go on TV and say, "We want to lure our enemies into a land in which we can slow-bleed the enemy on favorable terrain. We want to change the face of the Middle East, and create democracies in the 3 main sponsors of terror, that happen to border Iraq: Iran, Syria, and Saudi Arabia." WE WOULD LOSE ALL SUPPORT in the Arab world if he said that! It's a delicate balance, but Bush chose to bite his tongue, and take a massive poll hit to save national security. THAT is a leader. Isn't it blatantly obvious that the democrats stand to lose politically if we WIN? They don't even try to hide it anymore. So it shouldn't surprise you that EVERY single "TROOP WITHDRAWAL DEADLINE" that dems have proposed is scheduled for BEFORE THE NEXT ELECTION! (14 in all.) They know they are considered “soft” and “weak” on national defense. That is their strategy to win back the white house, and they do not care about the consequences. A win in Iraq, or an attack on Iran would destroy all that. What Democrat Senate leader Harry Reid did was treasonous. Did anyone watch Al-Jazeera today? Talk about giving aid and comfort to our enemies... From Cairo to Kandahar, Islamic Extremists are celebrating in the streets, and terror cell leaders are using it as proof that Bin Laden was right… America will cut and run after only 3.000 casualties. Ask you grandfathers how many Americans died on D-Day. Ask a police officer how many murders there are in Philly, DC, or Chicago each year. How about some historical, logical prospective? End of rant. Do what you want. I say Reid (D) must resign, or should be arrested for Treason. He is the current Baghdad Bob, Tokyo Rose, and Neville Chamberlain all in one embodiment. OUR way of life WILL be affected by what we do... more than you may know. Joe Brignoli joeybrignoli@aol.com
Reid is an opportunistic idiot who is being deranged by the fact that he can do nothing in the Senate, and his hypocrisy knows no bounds. In berating the USSC ''banning''of late-term abortion[they did no such thing. The AP,and their pals over at the New York Times need to get their semantic s..t together as it was Congress who created this ban,not the high court, and it was Reid who voted for it],in swiping New Orleans levee dough for Vegas Corps of Engineer projects,in running a real-estate satrapy with his two sons where Reid has pocketed millions, and now with this latest bit of sagebrush theater which has been eagerly aired on every major Moslem station in the Middle East.Morons like Reid[whose support in his native Nevada is on the ropes already],who pontificate on ''realities'',should be prepared to accept the consequences of their own interpretation of these realities.Namely, that Reids ''diplomacy''will work where military force will not.Very well.Yet what have recent Democrat forays into ''diplomacy''accomplished? Not very damned much. While Pelosi was leaving her ''road of peace''in Damascus,The UN Sec.General Ki-Moon nailed Assad with photographs clearly showing illegal arms shipments to HEZBOLLAH across the Lebanese border at the same time Pelosi was in Syria,in direct violation of the cease-fire accords reached with Israel and UN Resolution 1701.Nearly as bad,its sham elections with little to no comment by Jimmy Carter are reaching their climax with the predictable result.Assad remains Dictator For Life, with all of the misery that this will cause for his own people, and those of surrounding nations. Meanwhile,Democrat Majority Leader Hoyer stopped in Cairo to meet with the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood.By the time that the departing congressmans jet vapour-trails had disappeared over the Med Sea,its leader Muhammed Imaghi-Akef was calling for holy war ''against the US and the Zionist''.al Qaedas movement into Gaza has this guys fingerprints all over it,as HAMAS is a branch of the Brotherhood and Akef has been seeking stronger ties with the Wahabbist terrorists.Dems are now being gulled by the 'moderate'image of HAMAS,that speaks in clipped English tones picked up from stints at Princeton and Eton, dresses in western suits, and apparently [rightly,if it is the Democrats we are talking],believes that this is all that is needed in order to get the West, led by Bush,to cave in and begin sending the Palis dough again that will not end up in the hands of those who wear Saville Row suits,or even ordinary Palestinians where it would belong, but into the hands of terrorists, and kaffedah-wearing bunco artists of the Arafat stripe.Herein lay the crux to the problem.Bush has created a genuine mess in Iraq, complete with 'Halliburton'spectacles of excess.[Bear in mind that Bush critic George Soros has made millions off of Halliburton, while Bush,to be fair, has not earned a cent, and that Democrats such as Reid,Pelosi and Feinstein have cashed in on companies engaging in war profiteering in Iraq.www.opensecrets.org or The Center for Responsive Politics,a non-partisan political money watchdog for more on these bi-partisan shenanagins].Yet the Democrats are equally clueless as to what to accomplish in the Middle East, worse, they seem to willfully seek a nearly Chamberlain-like groveling in the face of arrogant jihadist dictators,as if[as we saw in Cairo and Damascus],this will do any good. There seems to be no place that they will not prostrate themselves. In America, they hang with CAIR allies. In Europe, they seek the admission of a clearly radicalizing Turkey into the EU,and are ignoring the returning threat in the Balkans, caused by Islamics this time rather than Serbs. In the Middle East, their policy positions are opposed by a clear majority of US soldiers serving in the field[www.military.com,for the reams of abuse that are being showered upon Pelosi and Reid at this moment,by those of all branches serving in Iraq and Afghanistan],but are being praised by none other than FATAH,HAMAS,the Brotherhood,AL AQSAS and HEZBOLLAH who utilize American press-releases of the Reid sort to maximum effectiveness. These are not the kind of people one would want on their side,if you happen to be an American politician.Reid doesn't want anyone attacking his patriotism, but at the same time the guys best press in the Middle East is coming from the jihadis. These people actually consider the Democrats to be 'thoughtful and articulate'in their stated policies. We will see just how ''thoughtful''they are when Iran gets the Bomb, another war in Lebanon is fired up,or another portion of a major American or European city lies in smoking ruins.
Bob - if you think this is treason, just wait until '08 when we kick the rest of those Republican SOBs out into the street. Including everyone in the White House. Then, all you will have will be the Repub scumbags in the Supreme Court. It will take us longer to get them. But America's crooked rich thanks you for caring. Especially Halliburton. But I realize you are too dense to make the connection.
To Mssrs. Brignoli and Holmes: While I certainly disagree with your opinions, I do appreciate that you cited specifics. IMO one of the worst things about Bush/Cheney is that they talk in "my way or your unpatriotic" terms. Mr. Bush could have stated any of the things you have said without putting us a more risk with MidEast countries than we already are. He has, in fact, talked about "breeding democracy". I think that you have probably given him too much credit about "taking a hit in the polls because he couldn't say what he wants to". I lived in TX while he was governor and I KNOW he really is as ignorant and unintelligent as he is portrayed to be. Thank you for at least giving some specifics to your support of the IRAQ situation. I see things differently but was interested in reading these points. If we spent more time discussing these positions rather than ranting and calling names maybe all of us could form our opinions with more knowledge and understanding.
