Hoots for Huckabee

Posted: Tuesday, May 15, 2007 9:24 PM by Rob Merrill

From NBC's Mark Murray
Huckabee: "Like John Edwards in a beauty shop," on out of control spending. Ouch. But he got boisterous applause from the audience.

Great line. Huckabee might pull in more money in donations from that line than he has up to this point. Of course, you do have to overlook the fact that Huckabee's own record of spending isn't too good. He got an F from the Cato institute for his governorship. Still, most people aren't aware of that, so the line works.
The audience doesn't know how to behave in a debate.
As a Democrat, Huckabee was the one candidate on that stage I would least like to see get the Republican nomination. He's the best speaker, he's down to earth, he's hard to hate.
Chris Matthew....wipe the spittle off your chin....It was a great line and it looks good on you libs..I suppose if you win the Presidency you will change our flag "Old Glory" to a plain white flag..fly your flag high libs.
Get used to it people. Let it roll slowly off your lips--"President Huckabee. President Huckabee. President Huchabee." The man who would be Prez. Don't we all still believe in a Town called Hope? And doesn't Hope deserve its vidication from Bubba?
Chris Matthews....come on..... get a life....live a little. Your saying that politicians do not use canned lines in response to certain questions? I beleive Huckabee was just fast on his feet, and Chris is jealous becuase he is never funny, just loud!
Matthews is jealous of Huck and the GOP...all he has is Mrs. Bill Clinton and the Breck Girl...no wonder he is upset!!!!
In my opinion Governor Huckabee should be our Candidate for Presedent because he has a very honest conservstive background. He doesn't have the Big Spender backing right now and that's what I like. If the grass roots get behind him he csn win big time.
Let's be honest if Huckabee doesn't get the nomination for president he will be chosen as VP. Giuliani & Romney have that polished, Northern, liberal past that will flop in the South. They need Huckabee to offset them plus many Republican's might forget Romney's a Mormon if his VP is a former Baptist preacher. Laugh or complain all you want but my word's ring through with the truth.
Governor Huckabee has presented the Republican party with conservative values, original ideas in tax reform with the fair tax, and delivered them all in a manner that was relaxed and eloquent. For more information about Mike Huckabee I suggest his website at www.ExploreHuckabee.com or his Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/mikehuckabeeforpresident for more information on his stance on the issues. (PS maybe Mathews wanted to hear a joke more akin to Shrilery's wonderfully improvised Gandhi works at a gas station joke...lol)
There is nothing Rudy McRomney could say EVER to make me vote for them, I SAY THE TICKET IS AND SHOULD BE PAUL/HUCKABEE
I really hope Huckabee picks up steam; he's a great orator, good values, sticks to his guns, and someone said it best earlier: he's hard to hate.
As a resident of Arkansas and a former state employee who served under Huckabee, I can tell you first hand that his policies and philosophy is more closely related to a "Southern Democrat" than a Republican. Huckabee was the 1st Republican Governor since reconstruction. Gov Bebee, Huckabees replacement a Democrat replaced very few State Agency heads since taking office. Strange for a party switch. Sadly the economy, crime and prison system are in the toilet here. Huckabee did no favors for Arkansas. Arkansas is in bad shape. Huckabee did get a smoking ban passed state wide however.
As a Southern Baptist I don't see where being a Mormon is a problem for a candidate for any office. With caveats for the dangers of stereotyping any group, and the fact that I've only known maybe 50 that I was aware of, I've always been rather impressed with them. Their similarities far outweigh their differences. If Romney's policies and political philosophy are the closest to mine of any of the candidates, he will get my vote. If not, someone else will.
Humble Huckabee (mike) for President. He has a good christian record and especially good in health issues. He could enlist some of the canidates qualities to help out. I would like all canidates to go for a God Amendment: plege, prayer, Bible, --.; and stop Court Tyranny. Put all people to work and stop Illegals- Mafia---.. wayne
I believe that electing Huckabee as president will prove to be one of the greatest decisions this country has ever made in connection to obtaining affordable and quality health care.
FACE IT FOLKS, CHRISSEY POOPOO MATHEWS IS A SLOBERING IDIOT IN ANYONE'S BOOK.  IF HE WORKED FOR WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE U.S.A. AND HE CONTINUES TO DO SO.  CARTER NEEDS TO GO BACK TO THE PEANUT FARM AND KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT, GIVE MATTHEWS A STICK OF THE DYNAMITE HE GOT FROM NOBEL AND LET HIM BLOW HIS MINISCULE AMOUNT OF BRAINS OUT. IT WOULDN'T TAKE A STICK I THINK A #8 CAP WOULD BE MORE THAN ENOUGH!
JOHN EDWARDS IS AS CUTE AS A BUGS EAR.  MATTHEWS MATCHES THE POSTERIOR.
Huckabee can think on his feet, he has a sense of humor, he's educated on the issues, he's well-traveled, having been to the Middle East as well as Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. A man who earned a bachelors degree in two and a half years has something going on, upstairs. He says what he means and means what he says.

Huckabee has been criticized for increasing spending in Arkansas. What the critics do not know (or pretend not to know) is that there were situations demanding a tax increase in order to deal with roads, nursing homes, and education issues.

The biggest two issues he has brought up were energy and tax reform. I would agree that the economy and our dependence oil are national security issues. He wants to end our dependence on oil within ten years. He wants to replace the income tax with a somewhat progressive national sales tax, called the FairTax. The FairTax was designed to be revenue neutral, that is, it is supposed to take in as much revenue as the current income tax. I personally disagree. I think it will take in more, because the new tax base includes the underground economy, estimated to be between %1 trillion and $3 trillion. I had read a 2005 Wall Street Journal article (classroom edition) saying that if we could tap into that underground economy, we would have surpluses. http://wsjclassroom.com/archive/05apr/econ_underground.htm

Also, with the income tax, there are $11 trillion sheltered in offshore accounts. With the FairTax, the reason for that shelter disappears. Within a matter of months, that money would return.

I will be a happy man when Mike Huckabee is sworn into office as President of the United States of America.
The man has something that none of the other candidates has. You don't know how poor the other candidates are in this area until President Huckabee speaks and he has ideas too. I think what holds back the other candidates is that they can't really say much without offending their big contributors. If Huck can get some money who knows. I think its safe to say there is a big part of the electorate who are sick to death of I was there on 9/11, and McRomney. None of the Democrats have anything going on, except it our turn tyoe BS.
Laying down the Huckaburn!

I loved the line, and believe there's nothing wrong with showing a sense of humor in a debate. Mrs. Clinton looks like her face will rip from the pain of smiling.
