Rudy, interrupted

From NBC's Lauren Appelbaum
On what should be a happy day of fundraising in the four boroughs of New York City (all except Manhattan) for Rudy Giuliani's 63rd birthday, a few protestors ruined his first event, a review of the videotape shows. At City Island's Sea Shore Restaurant in the Bronx, a young woman named Sabrina approached the Mayor with a prepared question, reading it word for word off of a notepad. "You reported to Peter Jennings on 9/11 that the World Trade Center towers were going to collapse. No steel structure in history has ever collapsed due to fire. How come the people in the buildings weren't notified and who else knew about this? How do you sleep at night?"

Giuliani started to reply but was interrupted by Luke Rudkowski, a man recording the entire exchange on a video camera. Matthew Lepaceak, who stood on the other side of Giuliani, joined in. "But you said on ABC video with Peter Jennings in an interview that you were aware the towers were going to collapse in advance. Who told you the towers were going to collapse in advance, sir? And I also would like to know who else you told." During this time, Giuliani had an incredulous look on his face, completely caught off guard. The statement they were referring to is from a phoner Giuliani had with Jennings. "We set up headquarters at 75 Barclay Street which was right there with the police commissioner and the fire commissioner, the head of emergency management, and we were operating out of there when we were told the World Traded Center was going to collapse."

After being interrupted again, Giuliani responded with an explanation. "Our understanding was that over a long period of time, the way other buildings collapse, the towers could collapse. Meaning over a seven-, eight-, nine-, ten-hour period. No one that I knew of had any idea that they would implode. That was a complete surprise." He then walked into the diner for the breakfast fundraiser. Giuliani supporters clapped loudly to drown out the protestors' questions.

The questioners were from "We Are Change," a self-described 9/11 activist group that asserts 9/11 was an inside job. Rudkowski, the leader of the organization, stated, "We are a non-profit grassroots organization that represents family members and rescue workers that go against Rudolph Giuliani." He said he did not lose a family member in the attack. Sabrina stated she represented her family member, Lt. Robert F. Wallace, who was killed in the attack. "I just want a new investigation. There was no reason why he should dump 45% of the victims in a dump. He used to be an investigator, he knows damn well you don't dump, you do not throw away evidence."

Lepaceak, who stated he also lost no family members during 9/11, assured reporters they were not paid by another campaign to protest Giuliani. "We are not affiliated with anything except for life, pursuit of liberty and happiness and trying to get America back on the right track which Giuliani and unfortunately many men like him have taken us down. Unfortunately, we are in a state of crisis here in America. And we need to have a good man in office in 2008. Unfortunately, Rudy Giuliani is not the man to do it."

***Update*** The Giuliani campaign sent us this statement from adviser Mike McKeon in response to these protests. "Millions of people around the world saw firsthand the decisive leadership of Mayor Rudy Giuliani and the bravery of so many men and women working to save lives on September 11th - everyone doing everything they possibly could to help. The murderous terrorists and their supporters who made it possible to turn commercial jetliners into missiles and fly them into the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania are clearly and solely responsible for the worst attacks on the United States."

Hmm...Rudy caught in another lie. I'll bet his exwives heard plenty of them.
Well Rudy you can never question the motives of a "victim" it's the liberal law. Unless of course they aren't a Liberal then you can attack and smear them for what they are, and not their ideas.
although I don't cotton to the boogyman stuff on the collapse of the towers, I do believe rudy guliani and steve forbes could do more damage to the working class people of our country than any terrorist, they have made it quite clear if you are not among the elitist wealthy that can throw around big bucks in the stock market you should and will be forced to live in a state of poverty to take care of the uber rich, to these cats you and that ilegal that mows their grass need to be one in the same, nominate edwards for the good of the many instead of the few
" Giuliani supporters clapped loudly to drown out the protestors' questions." Good for them! Whenever reality threatens to intervene, we stick our fingers in our ears and say: "Lalalalalalalalala!"
It is very telling of Giuliani's candidacy when, after making tens of millions from 'consulting' after the 9/11 attacks, he tries to raise funds using his performance on 9/11, yet he cannot really answer the question 'Who told you the WTC was going to come down and did you tell anyone else in the buildings at the time they were going to come down?' Regardless of your feelings of these activists' actions, one should really wonder what the big appeal is of Giuliani, who does not even have the support of the 9/11 victims' families or the NY fire fighters.
If I were Giuliani and someone accused me of colluding in the murder of my associates and friends, my firefighters and policemen, if someone accused me of killing Father Judge, and all the other citizens of NYC who died, I would spit in their face. These people are disgusting, brainwashed, morally tone-deaf fools.
Go to YouTube and search for "Giuliani knew" for the clip of Rudy telling Peter Jennings he was TOLD THE TOWERS WERE GOING TO COLLAPSE. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zziLzP5ZL_Y
how come there are never any positive posts on guliani? could it be that everyone sees what he really is?
I find it strange that on the first read home page it says tehre are "0 Comments" on this article, when in fact there are 4 or 5, mine ofcourse not being fit to be published, it is amazing what happened to media over-seers when it comes to 9/11
Didn't Madam Quigley tell President Reagan they were going to collapse, back in '84?
So Richard, Rudy didn't answer. Could it be he's not outraged because its true? They say he totally screwed up. Mr Hero my ass. No wonder the firefighters and policemen hate him.
Jake - Maybe you are not familiar with the way this site operates. Sometimes it shows no comments because you have not updated your page, while in the meantime the moderators have posted the comments. Also, comments fall through the cracks...I know some of mine have never shown up for whatever reason. Don't take it as a big conspiracy.
Bet you people still claim no Jews showed up for work that day too.
"Bet you people still claim no Jews showed up for work that day too." Ahh yes, the good old tactic of smearing someone as an anti-semite (aka a Nazi) if you don't like their view.
It's a jewish conspiracy... 911 was used to start the Iraq war.
With a few exceptions, this blog is a liberal rag. Nothing but hate and half truths. MK, that is why you don't see anything positive on this site for Rudy. I don't expect positive news for Obama or Hillary on RedState
Giuliani was in on 9/11. That's why he destroyed the evidence and why the firefighters were smeared for "looting" when they decided to try to stop the evidence from being removed so there could be a real investigation as to the "whys" of the collapse. The firefighters know something stank since their chief radioed out that it was only a two hose fire. I'm glad these guys stood up to Giuliani. It definitely makes *me* sleep better to know, where he hasn't been caught and convicted, at least he was confronted. HIm prancing around the death scene like a big hero and the Big Media promoting him is so sick. He'll get promoted and rewarded for his work for the "big boys" - unless he gets radioactive over his true role in 9/11. One can always hope.
What did Rudy do on 9/11 that was so great? He didn't stop the attacks. He didn't save anyone. The only thing he did was destroy evidence and have firefighters arrested for trying to pull bodies from the remains! If you don't beleive me just google "Giuliani 9/11 failure" or "firefighters vs giuliani". Rudy Giuliani is a fake and a LIAR!
pizza guy, the named "RedState" doesn't exactly ooze a neutral persona, this liberal rag as you call it is open to any political view point, bring some of your buddies over from redstate we'll talk
I wonder if any body on the left can have a thought without a 3 x 5 note card.
Of course this is a liberal blog! I think this is more for the moveon.org people then any other style of liberal. I hate to think what really would have happened if Rudy ordered the firemen and police NOT to go into the towers. No one knew at the time what was going to happen. For people to make statements like that, it just shows their mindframe. If a fireman arrives and the building is ablaze and there are people screaming for help, do you think he would hesitate for a moment, thinking to himself"not worth it". Of curse not, he will risk his life as if it was his or her own mother in there to save them. That is what happened at the towers. Nobody gave a second thought to their own lives, they just went in there because that is what they are trained to do. Of course the NYFD and 9-11 people are going to be against Rudy, it happened on his watch. And they are entitled to their opinion.
"I wonder if any body on the left can have a thought without a 3 x 5 note card." I wonder if any neocons have more thoughts that can fit on a single 3 x 5 card. We've got 2 minutes, "Jack," - tell us everything you know.
Interesting "pizza guy". I didn't see you chime in with anything positive on Rudi - just take a rather simplistic shot at liberals. The fact is there's just not much good with the guy. His only lease on political life is he was in the right place at the right time with 9/11. But, the guy also: 1. Cheated on his wife and even brought his mistress home to meet the wife and kids. 2. KILLED a lot of firefighters on 9/11 by not funding radio equipment for them (as recommended by the FBI after the 1993 bombing) so they could have known to get out of the WTC after the people on the ground determined 15 minutes beforehand it was going to collapse. 3. Personally profited off of the death of all those WTC people. Those are the actions of an unethical scumbag. Pretty much template GOP if you ask me.
The fact remains that Giuliani stated that he was TOLD THE TOWERS WERE GOING TO COLLAPSE. Why does he deny this?
Stay on Rudy's case, keep asking "Who told you the towers were going to colapse?" Keep asking till he falls down.
I really don't like nut cases either on the left or right. This sounds like a nut case job. Buildings on fire collapse all the time. It is most prudent to assume that a building on fire will at some point collapse and to act accordingly. Someone speculates that the building might collapse and that is passed on as the buildings will collapse -- happens all the time with 2nd hand conversations that things get amplified or simplified -- no conspiracy necessary.
I think every voter should hear the Fire Fighters first.
youtube com watch ?v=vaCYEEO-58I

video titles include:
"Giuliani Gets Exposed As Fraud by Firefighters"
"Firefighters Rip Giuliani, Call Him 'Urban Legend"
I hope the truth comes out one day, because there is no way in hell that three building came straight down in one pile, and the third did not even get hit by a plane.  If you look at any pictures of that day take a look at the Hilton across the street from building 7 it is all glass.......hmmmmmmmm
