McCain to speak on immigration

From NBC's Mark Murray
On Monday, the day before the next GOP presidential debate, McCain will deliver an address on immigration in Coral Gables, FL, his campaign just announced. Immigration, of course, has become a prickly issue for the senator as many GOP conservatives -- and some of his GOP rivals -- have lashed out against the Senate compromise that McCain supports.

McCain go back to bed.
I recall a news interview where the newsman was quoting a memo that McCain had written about the immigration bill when he finished the interviewee said the rest of that memo said, "Then if the great uwashed want a fence we will build them a G-- D--- fence". The great unwashed folks that's us.
looks like our corporate owned leaders are going to make all those illegal's everyone is saying can't vote citizens, so yes the politicians most certainly are pandering the illegal vote, things won't change untill the wealthy have to start shooting illegals off the walls of they're gated comunities, the people that always write the tear jerking posts about how the illegals are a good thing are the ones that are either enjoying the benifits of cheap labor or have not been negativly effected personally by illegals, and by the way if you want to be a u.s. citizen speak english, don't expect me to learn what ever it is you speak
MK,MO I think we agree on something and further, the only way they will go home is when their country is more desirable. That means they will go home after this country is trashed.
I read a story in USA TODAY yesterday about some mexican who is the richest man in the world. He says that he has over 200,000 people working for him. Maybe if he spent some of that money improving his own damn country, maybe he'd have more of a chance of being Mr. Popular and keep his people on their side of the Rio Grande. Maybe if we went after this cheap labor here in this country, that we tell people that you have to abide by the same rules as everybody else.I was standing in line the other morning getting a breakfast taco, there were about 10 people in line, hispanic and all dressed to work on building new houses. A gentleman walked in and got behind me, he had a hat that said I.C.E. in white, the hat was black. As soon as he walked in, the folks in front of me, started motioning to him. By the time he reached the line, seven of these workers walked out the door and the line got very short. I asked him if he was immigration and he said no, he worked for an energy company, i didn't ask what it ment. Bet there would be a lot of unfinished houses in corpus christi if I got the same hat and walked among the subdivisions being built here.
Please ignore any references to the Ames straw poll in your upcoming schedule of (relatively) key events. As a student in Ames (Iowa State University) during a presidential straw poll, I saw that the event was a sham. The long line of chartered busses carrying votes (paid for by the candidates, of course) that enter the small town is a sight to see. I personally witnessed Sen. Gramm supporters walk around the fraternities offering keg parties to those who would walk across the street and vote for the then-senator. Surprise! The esteemed senator from Texas won the straw poll. Another suprise, he did not get his party's nomination, nor was he even close. If this even must be mentioned, just treat it like any other staged campaign event, and not like it indicates the true support for a candidate.
Jerry you could not find a hat to fit your head!
Many years ago, I really liked and respected McCain. Has he suffered an anuerism (sp?) or something? He looks sickly and nothing that comes out his mouth sound remotely sane. I really am concerned about him personally.
On this one we are looking at a "catch 22" if the government hasn't enforced the laws we already have they sure as hell will not enforce any new laws. How do we deal with 12 to 20 million illegals, no matter which course we take we are looking at cost figures to match the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. The cost of 700 miles of fence and security forces to patrol the border (are we going to fence the northern border as well) alone is outrageous. If we start enforcing the existing laws what do we do with the ones we arrest, how many people will the government have to employ just to handle the paper work, where do we confine them, do we pay to transport them home, do we deport the whole family or just the ones who are illegal, massive cost. If we adopt the immigration reform bill then the government will have to employ millions of workers to handle the paper work, they came here for a better life and I'm sure they are all going to come forward and pay $5000 dollars each just so they can come back as guest workers when they are forced to leave the U.S. Point blank our elected officials and our government at all levels have promoted and aided illegal immigration by sweeping the dirt under the rug instead of cleaning it up. There is only one solution and it will still cost us an arm and a leg, make them all legal tax paying citizens with legal social security numbers, and legal driver's licenses. If they have commited "any crime" other than being an "illegal immigrant" deport immediately. A lot of people don't realize it but our churches were the ones who initially started bringng them here by the bus loads.
This 'Immigration' thing, using that term, insinuates that the people coming in, have no desire to ever return home. But many of them, see it as a temporary thing, in some cases, it's seasonal work they're after, and then home for the Winter. Maybe it would be better thought of as a Migration, like Monarch butterflies, a Migration Bill.
Florida Fox, it will be trashed by the time bush leaves. He still has until next November to finish the job!
steve turner cedar falls iowa, please tell me you are being sarcastic so I can sleep tonight
Mexico would go broke if they had to take care of their own citizens. That's why they send them here to work so they can send money back "home." That's what Mexico wants. Drain the U.S. dry to provide for Mexico.
Mexico isn't the only origin of rampant illegal immigration. My home town is right on two major highways leading to Laredo and/or the Valley, and at least one vehicle loaded up with 10 or more is stopped every week. These folks are coming from Central America as well. Everyone knows about the 18-wheeler in which 19 died a few years ago, but a couple months ago two drowned trying to swim the Guadalupe River. My town isn't their final destination, they're heading way up North and all points in between.
Scott, you're right. I should have included the countries of Central America with Mexico. Mexico won't take them in, so they sneak their way to the U.S. through Mexico. It's big business.
Paw Paw.....Go look in the mirror, you've just become part of the problem. Your thought of waving a wand and making this group into "law abiding tax payers" is as rational as our attempt at turning the Sunni's and Shite's, into Democrats and Republicans....think about it "Paw Paw"??? Not to mention all of those that have migrated to this country legally (like my daughter-in-law, sacrificing their time and at great expense, what could you possibly say to them?? Being a person from Arizona, that actually confronts the illegal issue (Although, I don't know how many are actually flooding into North Carolina?)The main issue is simple and singular, "To deal with a hemmorage, you don't discuss the hospital bill(s), you have to stop the bleeding.. or you'll lose the patient". You MUST deal with the cause, not the effect(s). that's precisely what the illegals and their supporters want. If we don't make the closong of our borders our highedt possible priority ( by the way, your cost figures are assinine) in the near future, our national colors of red white and blue, might very well be red white and green. If you think that comment is felatious, try this figure on for size....The Arizona authorities openly admit, that they're catching a small percentage of those that come across the Arizona border alone and that number (those that were caught & turned back) equated to over 900,000 in 2006, just 2006 alone....hmmmm I wonder how many actually came across. That's a big number.....the hispanics are already the largest minority this country has and in a very unlawful way, they're becoming closer and closer to the majority. So let's just talk about it some more, on and on. Whatever stop-gap measure or legislation is passed or enacted, at some point in time, sooner or later, hopefully sooner, the border will be have to sealed, or this country as we know it, will have been irrevocably changed.... si habla espanol, Paw,paw?
Republicans (and Democrats, too, for that matter) are ignoring this "immigration" thing to their own peril. We, the "unwashed" out here in the hinterlands (yep, even here in Alaska) have this issue front and center. No amnesty, no easy entry, no "remain in place while we figure it out" strategy. Deal with the illegals who are here now; secure, truly secure, the southern border, and rebuild what this nation was and can become again. Don't ignore this issue anyone.
Swim the Guadalupe river? Did they get hit by the innertubers that get drunk on that river every weekend? Boy they really must have gotten their compasses wrong! The Guadalupe is north of San Antonio and on the weekends, everybody strips down and climbs in their innertubes and float down river. I can see why they would have drowned after they opened the dam at Canyon Lake! I'm shocked they did not get shot, there are a lot of million dollar homes on the Guadalupe! Unless they were way south near the coast.
Jerry/corpus - it really pains me to agree with you on something (smile) but I had the same reaction re the G. river. Didn't take the time to get out a map but .....
Jerry, absolutely right. The problem is MEXICO and the corrupt MEXICAN government. We are trying to solve this problem the WRONG Way, dealing with the effects, not the causes. It's akin to putting a bandaid on a broken leg, and so so typical of our short term minded leaders. Sad.
jerry and Independent, the Guadalupe runs by Victoria and into San Antonio Bay. Last time I looked at a map, it's pretty long and has headwaters and a delta.
Scott Knows - thanks. As I said, I hadn't taken the time to look at map. point taken. Gee - I was really hoping to find some kind of common ground with Jerry. (smile)
Independent, de nada. Good luck finding common ground with our buddy in Corpus, unless you're willing to travel to Mars. Oh, your observation on the other thread about the "masturbatory" nature of his comments is priceless.
You would have thought after swimming the Rio Grande, Nueces and other rivers, this would have been easy, but.....
