Bush approval sinks lower

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro

Last week, our NBC/WSJ poll showed President Bush at his lowest approval rating since taking office -- 29 percent. It just got lower.

A Newsweek poll out today shows that just 26 percent of all Americans – only about one in four -- approves of the job Bush is doing; 65 percent disapprove, including a third of all Republicans. The margin of error of the poll is plus or minus 4 percent

The only president to have ever gotten a lower approval rating was Richard Nixon, who fell to 23 percent in January 1974 -- seven months before he resigned over Watergate. In 1979, Jimmy Carter’s approval rating hit 28 percent.

And it’s not just Iraq that’s weighing Bush down. Americans overwhelmingly disapprove of his handling of several domestic issues and half even disapprove of his handling of terrorism.

If this President veotes the CAFE standards the Senate just passed, he and Cheney can go to Iraq and dig for their own oil.

We are all part of this mismanaged war, we the people are as much the blame!! But wait how about all those ""clowns we sent to Washington to do ""OUR BIBBING"""   They have no blame, ""Only SHAME"".

Our President is only one Person,,We are Three Hundred Million Strong,,, Plus 12 Million Illegals!  The figure's don't add up??????
Amazing, the Democratic controlled congress has a lower approval rating then President Bush. Amazing.
Is that his IQ at 26%?
Hey Jerry from CC TX- where are you this morning, dude?  You must be SO proud.  Oh, and by the way- in case you hadn't heard;  "Clinton got some!"
Aw, damn- must be time for another terrorist-plot scare.
The most amusing fact is that all you rabies- infected leftists don't amount to ant droppings; enjoy your screaming into a rain barrel.
thanks, YOU are Really  giving Boston a Bad name!
Ant droppings can pile up!  WE do not have rain barrels in Boston.
Thanks, Really Boston - oh, no, no, no, you have used the wrong adjective.  Remember alliteration?  Rabid right-winger and loonie leftie.
Of Scotts,John B's,and Bobf's,the prize for the most illogical post must go to Bob.I find it curious that detractors of the administration rail at the thought either alleged or actually utilized, that these are ''un-American''for their critiques.A fair judgement, since merely being in opposition of the administrations policies does not make one less of an American. This is my stance, held since the earliest days after 9/11 insofar as the present administration is concerned.Yet from the other side,it is said that we ''would vote for Hitler if he was the Republican candidate''.This is unsophisticated drivel, borne of those who descend to the infantile in debate and who render intelligent discussion of the issues, the very essance of ''agreeing to disagree'',into an untenable region, based less on fact than upon emotive bombast. These demand ''facts''who are so unwilling to provide them themselves.''Stories''are indeed, what they have to go on.
In point of fact[which can be easily obtained by the mortal man or woman looking through the pages of this boards older archives],I have consistantly taken Bush to task for his failures in Iraq. His ignorance of the insurgency, the use of too few troops, the reliance on the non-military neo-cons,the super-base mentality which brought grief at both Dienbienphu and Khe Sanh,[virtually ignoring these lessons which could have been gleaned merely from picking up any of Frenchman Bernard Falls[killed in Vietnam], books on these subjects],and coming possibly too late to the idea of ''clear and hold''which is central to any successful military operation.Indeed,it becomes my likeminded GOP brethren who are less lockstep than their liberal opposites, who see failures of the administration in both the foreign[Iraq]and domestic[immigration and spending]spheres and are most willing to call him on his deffciencies in these areas.
This being said, what the Democrats are presently offering is most troubling. To Edwards:Yes,this is most certainly a war on terror, and to gain the presidency, you had better act as though it is,rather than pander to a base that does not have this nations best interests in mind.Hillary, whose handlers move to cover her waffling, flipflopping tracks. Not the hallmark of greatness in any event, and bodes ill for effective presidential leadership that will move the nation into a better era than the one evidenced now.Obama is a neophyte who could be easily mastered by a shadow president.''Hope'' is not enough.A skillful grasp of the world we face and what it is now becoming is essential to any generation of American confidence. The rest are mere also-rans who are of no import, except as they may figure as cabinet members in anothers Democrat presidency.
All speak of what to do in Iraq[getting out],but none ,and I mean zero of the Dem candidates envisages the outcome of sudden, total withdrawl.[save what little comes from Biden, and even this is mostly wishful thinking].Here is where any comparison to Vietnam abruptly ends.[Those regulars on other boards here can see what I have written on the most likely outcomes, none of them beneficial to American interests or the nation itself even in the short run].
Americas influence in the world will be damaged to the point that it will exceed all that has gone before. When administration opponants speak of recovering the ''lost respect of other nations'',they mean Europe, which itself is a weak, fractious collection of nation-states who hold no influence in the larger world around them.Herein lay Americas destiny. It will pass from its ''Grestest generation''period into a Pax Americana highlighted by weakened influence, and a newfound ability, invented by the European diplomats,to ''go along to get along'',rather than do anything that concretely combats the militaristic,religious-based violence, genocide and warfare that will be practiced in and spread from, the Middle East. The Jews will be as expendable to American fortunes as they were in Europes, seventy years ago.[''Never Again''will thus take on the repetitive quality of a game show, everyone talking about it,but no-one doing anything, much like Mark Twains weather].In order to have peace here,we must neccesarily allow these horrors to continue elsewhere unmolested by ourselves. It is here where we will pay our greatest price as a people and as a nation. This is what I see beyond the Bushs and the Hillarys, beyond GOPs and Democrats, conservatives and liberals. There will be no new ''Golden Ages'' for there is no will to reach for them.I could be wrong. But I doubt it.
george the divider doesn’t care about polls or the American public.

Now Iraqi oil is something that he cares very much about.

He is buying it with American lives every day and the democrats don’t have the balls to stop him.

Go george Go.

"IDIOT"
Is it just me, or does it look like Bush's approval numbers are starting to mirror his IQ?
BARBARA,NO IT'S NOT JUST YOU. THERE IS NO QUESTION HE HAS A VERY "LOW" I.Q.. DADDY PAID HIS WAY THRU COLLEGE. MY DOG "RUFF" HAS A HIGHER I.Q. THAN GEORGE AND HE DOES HIS #2 OUT IN THE YARD.
As far that I am concerned, Lets all come together, Tell the greedy corporations that produce fuel from oil, hence we have a huge reserve of crude in the U.S. We all need to revolt against them people who control the prices to make us poor, working class pay sky high prices to take more food off the table, plus laughing at us. Also in conjunction, we all need to tell them bossmen to respect all workers rights. I have seen total chaos with long time workers being terminated without cause. I want to get all decent families united for one cause. Lets all take U.S. back to the working class. Lets all demand that our dollar go to the gold standard. Lets all demand that our rights under the constitution be restored without strings attached. Lets all unite to abolish Homeland security, Lets all demand that we regulate our government agency. Lets all stand up, Demanding that our voices be heard. This is my opinion, Let those who allow a weak president control our lives. Let us push all parties that wants to turn U.S. into a dictatorship. I know majority of Americans live under the debt control. Lets all get out of debt, and make them ceos accountable. Make all ceos who hit retirement age collect what the poor make collects in Social Security. Why all of us who barely make ends meet has to suffer, Lets all put the common man back into office who stands up for the working class. Lets take all the lawyers who went to Yale University go into their own practice. But do not let the CIA trample over the rights of the people. For example, CIA goes to the high drug prone area, under the table. Single handily giving money to the drug lords for shipment. thus allowing it to get to the american people to use them. Then the police busts the people. The people has to go in front of the judge. All on count of the CIA, Thats how the system works. The CIA takes our tax money that every working class pays in, extorts us in the process. We pay double for the stupidity. Add two and two together, see what you get. The Banks are also involved. You gotta see what is going on behind the scenes.
Worst president EVER! To those who voted for him not once but twice, thanks a lot.  He's destroyed everything he has touched.  He's lied to the American people.  He has gotten us into a needless war.  The economy is as bad as he is.  The only good thing about his presidency is his portfolio which is oozing in oil and it's going up as quickly as the death rate of our military in Iraq goes up.

Let's all be vigilant against unseen Republican  forces bent on twisting Delegates, voting processes, voter fraud and other sorted Carl Rove & Katherine Harris style tricks. This race ain't over yet.  I'm just glad as hell that we have 3 fine candidates like Edwards, Obama and Clinton leading towards a Democratic victory. Then we can start to save ourselves from all this global mess. Impeach now and save a YEAR!
The current administration has done nothing good for this country.  The lies and the needless war that is killing our military are grounds for impeachment.  I agree with the above that the neo cons will continue to find ways to circumvent the law.  They have had free rein for 7+ years and as a country, we are seriously in trouble.  Our economy is a mess, the rest of the world knows our leaders are liars and our reputation is kaput.

Here's to Hillary, Obama, or Edwards to get us out of the current quick sand of doom we are experiencing.  Unless of course, your portfolio is oozing with oil stocks - which case, you are on the deciders team.
Good comment by Mark about Congress not having the guts to impeach Bush.  It's a gross understatement to say that Bush is the worst President...he is one of the most inept, incompetent, WORLD LEADERS of our time.
I am a Republican, and I did NOT vote for Bush/Cheney.  These guys would never have won without Karl Rove's slandering of John McCain and manipulating the vote twice.  I actually miss Nixon.  At least he had the decency to step down when he became a liability.  Bush is the WORST president we have ever had, bar none.  Impeach him and let's move on.  Unfortunately, look at who we have running for 2009.  The whiny Clinton, the baloney-slinging Obama, Nasty Romney, mean Giuliani, and two decent guys - McCain and Edwards, neither of whom is likely to get elected.  Oh well, if you are not rich, our electorate does not care about you anyway.
Why doesn't MSNBC or CNN or CBS or SOMEBODY mention the strong frienship between the Bush clan and the Clinton's, when will you come across ??
Wating and hoping that Hillary will slime her way into the Whitehouse before anyone finds out or mentions it !!!!!
Pelosi tabled impeaching Cheney but Congressman Wexler has a petition on line and has just brought it to the house floor again. There are nearly a quarter million signature already and climbing. You can find it at
wexlerwantshearings.com. In a blog from another article I just read, supposedly Kucinich is bringing an article of impeachment against Bush next week. Don't just talk. Act.
If he truely wanted to do what is best for this country he would fire Cheney and resign. No matter what he does he will go down in history as one of the worst presidents this country has ever had.

I THINK BUSH IS THE WORST SO-CALL PRESIDENT IN MY LIFETIME. THIS MAN IS A COMPLETE FOOL.CHENEY AND BUSH ARE WARMONGER MOST REPLUBLCIAN ARE WARMONGER.THE AMERCIAN PEOPLE NEED  TO HAVE A BIG PARTY CELEBRATION BUSH LEAVING.HE NEED TO BE IMPEACH ALONG WITH CHENEY
While all of the above individuals are bashing Bush, which i will say needs it, please remember the 8 years of Bill and Hillary were.  Plain old BS.  They never fixed anything.  They did not help social security.  They did not help medicare.  They did not help or fix prescription drugs for the retired and elderly.  They basically did not do a thing any better than Bush did.  Frankly we have not had anyone in the Whitehouse in the last 50 years or so that did anything for "the people" of the United States.  Additionally, the news cronnies  and their people and happy little Oprah and her bunch have not done one thing to help "the people".  This "offended" crap is really useless.  I am proud to say the Austrailians at least tell it like is should be told.  That is this is the way it it is, those are the immigration laws and that is the way you can become a citizen.  What is so hard about that?  All these sob stories about kids and such, hey, they are here illegally.  Also what about AMERICA?  Obama can not even salute the flag or pledge allegence to the United States Flay.  Frankly, i am disappointed in the whole mess that we have.  How in the world can we come out of this crucial screwed up mess that we are in?  The idea i read a little ways back said we need to forget demos and repubs...  No dictatorships for me.  I will fight for my rights.  No communism for me.  So folks just where do we go?  I don't have a clue.  But, I am willing to read and listen.  We really to not have a choice from the greedy money mongers running for office.
Bush and Cheny have to go.Acorrding to clause #6 of the constitoution it says,in case of the removal of the president from office,or his death, resignation,or inability to discharge his powers and duty of said office, the same shall disolve on the Vice President and the congress may by law provide for the case of removal, death, resignation or the inability, both of Presideny or Vice president declaring what officer shall then act as President and such officer shall act accordingly until the disability be removed or a President shall be elected.
As for me, I say IMPEACH Now!! We can not let these two ecscape justice!!
The only honorable thing for him to do after all the damage he has done to our country and its citizens during his incompetent destructive reign as a result of his irrational ideological policies are to resign immediately. He cared more about Iraq than he ever did about the US and our issues, I hope they will accept him as their honorable president.
