OK - until we find out that his "charity" is actually the Preserve John Edwards' Public Profile d.b.a. Center for Promise and Opportunity. Indeed - the Promise of more Opportunity for one John Edwards. This campaign is dead (a long overdue occurrence). Now he'll have to go back to his psychic days before he added that "s" at the end of his last name. Oh - but he always has his millions, not to mention the frequent flyer miles racked up at the expense of his "charitable contributors".

If you bother to read the article, its pretty clear Edward used the Centers to raise money for charity, but also to develop his own contacts with wealthy people with an interest in eliminating poverty....er, its called being a politician. I'd hate to have many  of the responders on a jury. The found someone guilty before even hearing the story. What has this country become? Kathy SF, Ca.  You are correct..Michael Powel did step down from the FCC.  He tried for 4 years to deregulate and joined the moral police force to clean up the air waves. A lackey for the repugs and the man on campus for big biz.

The Democratic establishment doesn't like the fact that Edwards is talking class issues instead of trying to be REPUBLICAN-LITE like Clinton was with his NAFTA, WTO, and GATT foolishness, as well as his media conglomerate establishing Telecommunications Act.

The Republican establishment can't stand John Edwards because he's invoking populist rhetoric against the party that's all about corporate greed, and the fact that as a trial lawyer, John Edwards destroyed their band of corporate lawyers in front of juries.

The ESTABLISHMENT MEDIA is just doing a favor for their chums in DC by constantly lying on John Edwards.

1) John Edwards did not "GET" $400 hair cuts.  His campaign arranged for him to get two hair cuts on two different occasions on the run between campaign stops on two different west coast trips with an old friend of John Edwards' (the stylist).  Because the stylist had to close shop, pick up supplies, and go to Edwards, the hair cuts included the price of travel and special arrangements.  Anyone who "SCHEDULES" a hair cut knows that appointments always cost more than just showing up.  Besides, Hillary Clinton got TWO $1,250 hair dos in 2006 for a total of $2,500 dollars and the media never talks about that because they could care less if her sold-out behind gets the nomination, because 1) the Repugs don't fear her like they do Edwards and 2) even if she did win she'd be all status quo and better for corporate boardrooms than John Edwards would.

2) John Edwards is building a large and expensive home that's also energy efficient according to the U.S. Department of Energy.  John Edwards is running for President, so there will always be people over to his house and staff may have to stay there some times.  If he should move up in the campaign, even more people will need to stay over there on occassion like secret service personnel.  If he becomes President, when he's out of DC for vacation, he would need enough room for foreign heads of state and secret service and advisors and what not.  

Someone tell me how many homes the Bush clan owns?  How many homes does Mitt "the $250 million man" Romney own?  For you all to focus on John Edwards' ONE house proves how simpleminded you are.

3) How dare a rich man talk about the poor and poverty?  He must be a hypocrite, right, even though before he got in to politics he was working with Urban Ministries, he was passing out toys to poor children at Christmas, he was delivering supplies to Hurricane Hugo victims, he was building learning labs for children to use afterschool if they didn't have computers at home to do reports on, and so on.  John Edwards has worked MULTIPLE TIMES in New Orleans since Katrina hit in 2005 "WITHOUT VIDEO CAMERAS ANYWHERE AROUND" and, Eugene Robinson of the WaPo talked about seeing Edwards working at a soup kitchen without a camera in sight.

Maybe people who criticize John Edwards for being rich and caring about the poor need to look in the mirror and get up off of their FAT BEHINDS and do something themselves.

John Edwards' started a POVERTY CENTER FOR RESEARCH on issues of poverty.  The Center was never meant for charity.  The book that was just published and the forums that were held are the main reasons the Center was created, which John Edwards said when the center was founded.  Everything that Edwards did at that Center was LEGAL.  God forbid John Edwards travel around the country speaking to the impoverished or learn more about poverty from experts, JUST BECAUSE HE WANTS TO BE PRESIDENT.  Ooooh, how dare he?  God forbid he employ people who are active in research and campaigns to work at a Center that was doing research for the campaign of eliminating poverty.  Hire campaign people for a campaign?  What an idea.

But no mention from the NY Times about how Bush's corporate cronies are running our government and making a fortune off of our tax dollars in Iraq.

They don't care about that.  John Edwards threatens the status quo of the establishment.  Bush does not.

I've checked into this NYT smear - and Edwards did nothing wrong - except get caught helping poor and middle class students attend college. The NYT even REFUSED to hear from the students who've benefitted from the program!

Edwards has a history of this gaming-the-system cleverness.  He incorporated his sole practitioner law practice to save on Medicare taxes.  The person who gave his foundation $250,000 knew it was in reality a contribution for Edwards' 2008 presidential campaign, IMO.

Still, I wish there was some consistency in the media about reporting on politicians.  It was virtually a non-story when Lieberman spend $387,000 as "petty cash" in 2 weeks last year.  He could have hired the mafia with that money and the mainstream media didn't care.

There is no FEC investigation and this is just the MSM doing their filthy dirty work on a candidate that wants to help the poor.  Let't kill this man before he does something good.  Yes, MSM, you are doing the world a wonderful thing by trying to get rid of this horrible man who started a poverty center to help the poor.  If he wanted to make millions would heve started a poverty for the poor.  No, I think he might have done like Bill Clinton and made millions doing motivational speeches or Edwards could have been like Rudy and done dance speeches making millions of dollar, no Edwards had the gall to start a poverty center instead of getting out there and making those million from big corporate america.

How hypocritical of Edwards, being wealthy, to show concern for the poor and working class. He should be like the wealthy Repub candidates and their contributors who show nothing but contempt for the poor and for people who do an honest days work instead of living off fat government contracts for boondoggles and war profiteering.

Let's get this straight about John Edwards:

* Made a FORTUNE suing doctors, yet claims he's going to reduce the cost of healthcare
* Talks about two Americas, one rich, one poor, while he lives in a giant mansion and indulges his rich tastes
* Gets $400 haircuts that he DOESN'T pay for out of his own pocket, but bills them to his campaign

How can anyone take Edwards seriously?  The man is a complete joke.

The truth of the matter is that Democrats will vote for ANYONE who promises to steal money from others and shower them with welfare benefits.

Didn't anyone tell Edwards that guys like him are the reason many Obstetricians have malpractice insurance premiums of $100,000 per year or more?  

If Edwards TRULY wanted to help the "impoverished", he would start by giving away his OWN money.

Actually, John Edwards made a fortune FOR VICTIMS who were injured by "CORPORATIONS" and "SOME" doctors.

Tell me.  If a doctor BOTCHED a delivery of your baby and caused brain damage, would you "SUE" or would you say, "I can't stand lawyers like John Edwards," you hypocrite?

If a corporation refused to put a "20 CENT" screw on a swimming pool drain even after it was told that the drains were unsafe and it ended up SUCKING THE INTESTINES OUT OF YOUR LITTLE GIRL like the Lakeys who Edwards represented, would you "SUE" that company, or say, I can't stand lawyers like John Edwards?

Two points:

1) People like to hate on lawyers, UNTIL THEY NEED ONE.  Those people are ignorant hypocrites who do.

2) John Edwards WENT UP AGAINST OTHER LAWYERS, which is something people seem to overlook.  Apparently "THE JURIES", made up of your peers, agreed with Edwards' argument over the band of CORPORATE LAWYERS and lawyers who represented the doctors, if they ruled in Edwards' favor.  

So you want to blame John Edwards for being a good lawyer?

Go get some perspective.
