Clinton camp on 2nd Quarter

Not to be outdone by the Obama campaign -- after it leaked the number of donors it expects for the second quarter -- Clinton communications director Howard Wolfson has released a memo discussing its fundraising projections, Clinton's electability, and even Bill Clinton's campaign help.

On its second quarter fundraising: "We expect to bring in about what we did in the First Quarter, or slightly more, which should put us in the range of $27 million. To put that figure in some perspective, it is more than any Democrat has ever raised in the second quarter of the "off" year. While that figure is record setting, we do expect Senator Obama to significantly outraise us this quarter." (Again, we'll point out that it would be a significant story if Obama beats Clinton in primary money for two-straight quarters, especially with her and her husband's connections.)

On Hillary's electability: "As [Clinton strategist] Mark Penn likes to say, people always ask 'can Hillary win?' but he has never had this asked of someone who is already winning. This week's national polls underscore that observation."

On Bill: "President Clinton hits the campaign trail with Hillary next week, when they'll barnstorm together across Iowa. Later this month, he'll campaign with Hillary in New Hampshire. We know that President Clinton is a huge asset in this race. He's uniquely positioned to talk about Hillary's biography and her lifelong commitment to children and families because he knows her life's story better than anyone."

this is exactly why i can't stand hillary clinton (and i vote democrat). it's not only her, but her entire campaign is extremely too calculating. give it a rest! it's a huge turn off for me and millions of other voters.
Obama will have raised a bit less than $35M by Saturday.  The Clinton staffers know that she is not leading but reacting instead that's what this swift reaction of "politics as usual" shows.
how many of those campaign contributions did the hillary machine use up to get the poll numbers they were after"
Hillary can and will win the election and she will be a great President.  Obama would make a great Vice-President.
Go Hillary! Why is it that when males that are running are never called calculating, or too ambitious. Notice the double standard that occurs, which is just another reason why I will be voting for her. And politics as usual? Of course, she's a polititian! Go Hillary!!
well, if the money pipeline ever dries up, Hillary can turn into her tony soprano personna and send pauly Walnuts out to shake a few trees and break some limbs and see what falls out.
In my opinion, Bill Clinton reminds many Christian women that he could not control himself while he was in office. I applaud Hillary for looking the other way in order to achieve her political goals. I passed up the opportunity to hear Bill speak in Scottsdale, AZ this week because he still represents someone who has no moral compass. He may be an asset to her, but he gave Bush the advantage in 2000 by dragging the image of the Democratic Party through impeachment hearings.

I can't imagine which Democrat would want to be vice president when a former president sets up a shadow government much as Dick Cheney has done. The two for the price of one means that Bill will be President again and Hillary will be a figure-head.

It would be very unfortunate for the country to have to revisit the Clinton pardons, the Clinton failed NAFTA policies and lack of attention to terrorist threats prior to 9/11.

Democrats need a clean slate in order to win in 2008. I am afraid that we are going to have to live with Republicans in the White House unless we are able to get beyond name recognition and examine a full slate of options.

It is too early to crown a winner in this race. The American people wee fooled by Bush 43 who was nothing like Bush 41. Clinton 42 and Clinton 44 are not the same.
Connie, Tn. / hillary is corrupt, her  campaign is corrupt, she has no morals, she's already been bought by corporate america, she is no better than any of the repub candidates, she can't win the general election which the dems desperately need to do in 08, lets focus more on the big picture and less on who has the vagina
please, st louis. i know there is a certain degree of calculation in all politics. but i am the last person would who use a double standard w/ men and women. hillary has been this way forever. it's disheartening to know that she's been looking to run the country for over 20 years. frankly i dont want a president who has been eyeing the white house for 20 years--it just shows how big her ego is. she calculated that is was in her best interests to vote for the war and now she has concluded it is in her best interest to be anti-war. i'd love to know what she really stands for. and it says a lot when a popular former president can't bring in as much money as a first term senator. i think it says a lot about the message and vision obama has. he's in it to change our country; hillary is in to win. she only cares about the power.
Gotta tell you, F. I'm getting more than a little put off by this notion that Clinton supporters can shield herself their candidate from criticism by calling her critics sexist.
F StLouis,

Drop the "Gender Card" Please,

Speaker of the House NANCY Pelosi is a woman and she has an approval rating of 49%. All things considered, she's a hell of a lot more popular than Congress and the Bush Administration and she's a hell of a lot more WOMAN that Billary Clinton. So, I'm sorry, but pulling the gender card isn't working. Not on THIS Black American FEMALE !!!! Nor does it work on half of the nation. Face it. We hate Hillary because shes a two faced, polarizing, backstabbing, fake, conniving, hypocritical, @#(&%!~ and you know what I'm talking about!

Period!
I'm in agreement I'm tired of hearing the gender bias arguement against Hillary Clinton. I don't believe applies to her anyway. She's an icon/celebrity who transcends her gender. There are plenty or reason not to like her that have nothing to do with her gender.
Any of the top tier Democratic candidates will make a fine President.  I am still making up my mind between Obama and Edwards.  I am not currently supporting Hillary's bid for the nomination because I think she is a terrible legislator.  We should never forget the train wreck that was HillaryCare.  I also am somewhat of a Catonian when it comes right down to it, and don't really like the idea of allowing two political families control of the government for potentially 28 years.  In short, there are alot of people out there who aren't supporting Clinton because of gender issues.  However, there are plenty of perfectly valid reasons not to support Clinton's bid that have nothing to do with misogyny. The polls that actually have meaning begin after Labor Day.  We'll see who the front runners are when people besides us political junkies start looking at the candidates.
Fstlouis, There's nothing wrong with being calculating and ambitious. If that all that's wrong with Hillary Clinton's candicy she would have nothing to worry about.  Let's be honest though, with the Clintons come a lot of baggage.  Is she really the best person to lead the country in 2009???
I'm just glad that McCain-Feingold got the big money out of politics.
Mr Penn,
How can it be 'record setting' for second Q if you say Obama is going to outraise you?  His number would be record setting then, not Hillary's.

Spin, Spin, Spin... the Clinton machine seems too Republican-like for this Democrat.
Hillary's going to be the candidate no matter how much cash Obama raises! Cash does not equal votes as the polls have shown.. GO HILLARY!
OBAMA IS AND WILL  GOIG TO BEAT HILLARY ON THE FRONT OF FUNDRAISING AND AT THE GENERAL ELECTION
 TRUST ME
Clinton-Obama versus McCain-Guilliani
Clinton wins in a landslide election
Hundreds of Americans and Thousands of Iraqi Civillians
die each month in Iraq. The Bush Administration lied about Iraq and continues to lie.
Its all about Iraq. And McCain, the establishment choice, wants to escalate the war causing more deaths.
