McCain on 'amnesty', Lugar

From NBC’s Andrew Merten

In light of what has been a tough week for McCain -- with yesterday’s failure of comprehensive immigration reform and unease on Iraq expressed by Indiana Sen. Richard Lugar -- the Arizona senator spoke about the state of his presidential campaign in Chicago today.  Regarding the Senate’s resistance to end debate and move ahead on the immigration bill he has championed, McCain expressed disappointment, saying, “We’re still left with de facto amnesty because we still have 12 million people in this country, and we don’t know who they are or what they’re doing.”  He went on to explain that 40 percent of illegal immigrants did not cross the border illegally (they came in on visas that later expired), and that tougher border security alone will not solve the problem of people who are already here.

On Lugar, McCain told reporters that he has “great respect” for his GOP colleague, but indicated that his position is not likely to change, saying:  “I always appreciate the advice and counsel of any of my colleagues, but my positions, especially on national security issues, are certainly thought through.”

Finally, McCain commented on the state of his campaign’s fundraising, shielding himself from what will likely be a disappointing quarter in comparison to opponents Romney and Giuliani, saying, “Money is not going to win this campaign,” explaining that he hopes to still have the chance to meet face to face with enough voters in New Hampshire, Iowa, and South Carolina.  He used the opportunity to revisit the topic of immigration, saying, “They’ll support me in the end, because they know I’ll always do what I believe is right, and if it happens to have some political damages, I’m happy to absorb that damage.”

That's an interesting line about the immigration bill - in effect, by defeating the bill you've in effect granted full amnesty to these illegal aliens. Huh. Wonder if McCain can get any traction with that?
mccain proclaims / “They’ll support me in the end, because they know I’ll always do what I believe is right" / but what if what he believes to be right is wrong? mccain needs to ride off into the sunset cause it's THE END
McCain is sinking along with Bush---they will have to kiss and make up again.
This is what happens when the Paper Hangers lose their self serving agenda! America was the winner for screaming reality. Yet these homesteaders in Washington never finish what is realy important to this nation. ""YES 12 MILLION Ilegals wander our streets, Yet Washington will not enforce standing immigration laws. These 12 Millin have envaded our country without firing a shot, destroy the wage laws, fill our prisons and jails, over burden our community services, defy our common laws ""gangs, drug trafficing, murder, drive by shootings and the list in becoming endless as their acts to defy our nation grows daily!! America??? have we not enough of this total Bull SH**! DEPORT THESE ILLEGALS STARTING NOW---""OR ENVADE MEXICO""!!!!
Guess what - just stop all the marchers before a march and check for legal status.  You know darned good and well that at least 50% are illegal.  And you also know that they will be marching again, demanding their "rights" and waving their Mexican flag in our faces.

I still don't get it. As far as this amnesty bill (which is what it is) if they would just actually ENFORCE the existing law, we wouldn't have the mess we have now! And I don't care what this old fool says, Iraq is a "national security issue" for one simple reason-because we are THERE! I know for sure I won't vote for him for another simple reason-I know what he thinks is right is WRONG! Time for this old clown to go home!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that "STARIGHT UP" supports English as our official language.  It's the only way to stop the "envasion".
I don't get this old fools logic. The amnesty bill (which is what it is) is dead because the majority of Americans don't want it. If they would simply enforce the laws already on the books, it would go a long ways towards solving the problem. As far a Iraq being a "national security issue", it is simply because we are THERE! I know for sure I would NEVER vote for him for one simple reason-what he believes is right is WRONG! Time for this old clown to go home!
Utahreb wins the jingoist of the day award.

Congrats Utahreb!

Put it by your gunrack and enjoy while you dream of harming your own non-white citizens.
I think that the existing laws should be enforced before another law is enacted.  However, illegals have nothing to do with the minimum wage law; they are not the only ones committing crimes because of drugs, etc.; nor are they the ones crowding our prisons (if they are caught committing crimes, they are usually deported).
HOW'S THIS FOR A SOLUTION FOR IRAC AND ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS. MAKE IRAC THE NEW ELLIS ISLAND, ALL WHO SHOULD NOT BE IN AMERICA INCLUDING THE PEOPLE FROM MEXICO, THE  MIDDEL EAST OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER WILL BE DEPORTED TO IRAC, THEN THEY WILL STOP COMMING ,AND BRING OUR TROOPS HOME.
12 million of unknown people is a lot.....But the reality is that could be about 30 million of ilegals in USA>....The Z visa...it could work, But think this for a second......  I f you have to pay $5000.00.- to get a two years work/living visa,....but you can do the same as today and keep working ilegaly and safe $5000.00.-......Who wants to pay to be doing the same thing??........
The other way around it's much better...you pay them..to know who are they and what are they doing here and later on they have to legalizes there self and pay you with ineterest....40 millions by two thousand is a lot of money and also it's help the internal security of the country to know who is in this country....Think about it and use them!!!.....
But make sure you know who they really ARE!!!!
If the government will not enforce the laws.. perhaps it is time for Americans to do so.  The government says it can't find the illegals?  Well, here in southern Calfornia, you can't toss a rock without hitting one.  My buddies and I could go down to Home Depot (or just about anywhere else) and pick up a bus load.  "Living in the Shadows"  HA... here in sunny southern California they are standing right out in the sun.  Bush is trying to give the USA to mexico and I just don't get it.
Everybody who thinks we're going to be able to deport 12 million illegal immigrants is fooling themselves.  The bill that was defeated was the closest thing to a "solution" that we were going to get and everyone knows it.  Those who voted against it decided that they would rather use immigration as a political issue than come up w/ a solution for it.  The "deport 'em all" solution just isn't workable.
invasion? we are in mexican territory, illegaly ocupied by europeans, you are the ones who dont belong here, by that way "america" is a continent, not just a little part of it, learn then speak.
McCain is defacto out of the presidential race. What an idiot! He thought along with the other idiot Senator in Arizona that the American people would just sit back and watch him and Bush give the United States of America to Mexico. Many of us would take up arms to defend this country. VIVA the USA!!!
chuck, richmond, tx/ all the illegals could be deported if you do it over a period of five years or so, you don't have to do it in one day, fact is the people in power don't want to deport them or they wouldn't be here to begin with, just because you have been fooled into believing the u.s. isn't capable of getting rid of the illegals don't assume everyone buys into that farce, we have the strongest "can do" nation except when it comes to illegals, give me a break, the only people spouting this garbage it can't be done are the ones enjoying the benifits of slave labor
McCain, whose political career was initially under-pinned by the fact that he was a Vietnam hero, prisoner of war...facts that have long since been lost because of his rather dubious involvement in the Keating scandal, his betrayal of his constituency at the behest of big business, political Action groups, lobbyists, his prominence in the laughable attempt at immigration legislation, etc., etc.... has finally reached reached his just reward....that of being inconsequential. Although, he is not unlike many on the federal level who gain power from the people, then, after their move to inter-sanctum within the Beltway, lose the perspective of who sent them there and what was the mission... to that end, McCain has become as out of touch as the International Space Station. His mouth is his greatest enemy, continually betraying his true contempt for those who put him in power to begin with, calling his constituency and the public at large, "The Great Unwashed"... Well, Johnnie Boy, now you and the rest of your self serving cronies in the Senate have finally lodged yourself in the posteriors of "The Great Unwashed" for the last time and they've spoken. Lights out, the curtain is coming down and there won't be any curtain calls.....The only thing that we could wish for, is that as your fanny is finally run out of DC, you take your mutton headed, lush buddy, Teddy Kennedy with you, you two inconsequnetials, deserve each other....with love, from one of "The Great Unwashed"
