Likely presidential candidate Fred Thompson (R) released this statement: "I am very happy for Scooter Libby. I know that this is a great relief to him, his wife and children. While for a long time I have urged a pardon for Scooter, I respect the President's decision. This will allow a good American, who has done a lot for his country, to resume his life."

Dear Fred Why do you hate American Juries who heard the evidence and decided that Libby should be punished for lying to a grand jury! Dear Fred why do you think it is OK for a President to decide that a sentence is to harsh for a crime? Does that mena you would pardon someone just because you feel sorry for their family. Lots of families are hurting because of relatives being in prison. Would you commute their sentences as well if you knew them the way you know thr traitor Libby?

Okay. It's official. Bush has lost whatever fragment of sanity (as well as approval ratings) he had left. Funny how he leaves two wrongly convicted border agents in prison to get shanked, but he lets this scumbag traitor to the American People walk away scott-free.

As for Fred Thompson, that Mason-Dixon Mussolini may as well stay home and not run for office. He's not going anywhere NEAR the White House now.

Some will say it didn't go far enough. This is a good compromise.

Obama should be sued for libel regarding his comments, in reaction to the president, stating that Libby was a man who "compromised our national security." Libby did no such thing. He had NOTHING to do with the so called "leak".

Keeping in mind this is Washington, DC, where everyone backs away from anyone who could damage their precious reputation, Libby had *dozens* of people (including Democrats) step up to speak to his character. Before attacking, read this. I had to ask myself: Would even *one* person come to my defense like so many people did for this man, whom I had never heard of until this investigation began?

This has been a travesty of justice from day one, a lying prosecutor, a jury which was not allowed to see all the evidence, a witch hunt by Clintonites . A double standard, considering that the Clinton staffer who STOLE classified documents from the National archives ( a real felony)got a slap on the wrist and that Libby did not commit any crime.Bill Clinton pardoned over 100 criminals including those who had sent him lots of money, and nobody said a word. Including the O.J. Simpson travesty, it can be said that the US justice system is deeply flawed.
President Bush made the right decision, but incomplete because he should have pardoned Libby completely

Fred Thompson is a jack ass and exactly the wrong kind of people we should be sending to Washington. A jury made the decision to send Mr Libby to prison, on very good grounds and clear evidence that for whatever reason he chose to lie to prosecutors.

Seems like we need to have some sort of new federal standard for our Washington politicians violating laws, ethics, and moral standards.

Ironically, the Sandy Berger case seems to have set a trend for the Bush Administration as far as "reasonableness".

No doubt some Democrats would not have their vengence satisfied without Torquemada getting involved but for some of us in the middle enough is enough.

With 208 Democratically controlled investigations currently going on, this may become a matter of routine soon.

Hopefully the politicians intent on foolishly wasting tax money in this manner will be voted out of office in the next round.

I've got two words to offer to those who are inevitably going to whine about this decision.

Sandy Burger. Stole secret documents, destroyed some, lied to investigators, lied to 9/11 Commission. Got probation and a three year suspension of his security clearances.

Scooter Libby, involved in a dispute over a non-criminal action, gets jammed by reporters covering their own tails and gets nailed by a jury headed up by one of the media's own as foreman. Despite evidence that he wasn't the source of the subject of the entire investigation, he gets to be punished by those who couldn't get to Bush himself.

Scooter should be granted a ranch in Wyoming to retire and get away from these people.

Richard Armitage, the actual source of the so-called "leak", escaped litigation because he was opposed to the war in Iraq. This was a partisan witch hunt and I find it outrageous that Mr. Libby did not receive a full pardon. Further more, Joseph Wilson and Valerie Plame should be investigated for their part in trying to sabotage the war on terrorism.
