Tancredo here is referring to the other Republican presidential candidates not being there. He looked around and said, "Do they know something I don't know?"

This suject is where African-Americans and conservatives agree: IMMIGRATION!

Tancredo wants to stop all immigration until the current batch of immigrants become part of the American culture.

Sounds like fascism, or xenophobia at the very least, to me. Sounds like North Korea.

Tacredo hit on an issue in the African-American community that is VERY true. It's almost startling that Democrats have not picked up on it at all. I for the most part agree with him, as well as every other person I know. It is wrong for illegal immigration proponents and their big-business backers to hijack the mantra of civil rights. It is pure expliotation for the wrong reason. Not only that, illegals are becoming the new indentured servants, which completely flies in the face of the spirit of the civil rights movement.

Why should Republicans show up to get bashed and boo'ed. That is not a forum that would be fair and equal. Why didn't the Democratrs show up for Fox News debate?

CJ, I agree with you on many points.  Madison Avenue took over The women's liberation movement (which, according to Betty Friedan meant liberation for both genders from standardized relationship norms) to a "You've come a long way, baby" competitive dogmatic mantra.  Now, big business is trying to cash in on the fruits of cheap labor and low wages to turn the immigration debate into one of competition between working people of different races and nationalities instead of genders.  Same old policy of the powerful with a different name.  The policy: keep the non-powerful angry and fighting amongst themselves while we profit off of both sides of the debate (divide and conquer).

Jackson I don't think the two situations are equal.  Republicans really should go anyway, look at Tancredo..he did his homework and he came with a truthful message and he was shown respect for it. Republicans have often misinterpreted the black community as partisan but I think it is more cultural/economic differences given the Democratic and Republican constituencies. Democrats didn't show up at foxnews given their history/political agendas of their featured pundits and corporate heads. Someone once described it as shooting fish in a barrel.

CJ...Do you remember the ad the NAACP ran against George Bush during the 2000 Presidential Campaign?  They all but accused him of the dragging death of a black man (last name was Byrd...can't think of the first name) in Texas.  One of the most memorable and despicable ads of the 2000 campaign.  Then they opened their convention by ripping into the President.  (And please don't start listing ads the Reps have run...I realize that there are many many despicable ads - ad against Harold Ford for one - on both sides.  I'm just talking about the NAACP here).

Having said that, I still think that the Reps should have gone.  Even if they are booed, I think it looks better if you can say that you made an effort to communicate with a constituency that is not well represented in the GOP ranks.

Those attack ads against Bush were foolish, I certainly wouldn't have supported it. I think Republicans really have to just try...Republican alienation(a result of the 'Southern Strategy') of groups like the NAACP has resulted in a decades old rift that will foster those attitudes. That's why I often say the old leaders' time have past and it time the Republicans begin to speak to the new generation comming up. It would take time, but it would result in long term benifits for the country in general. As for some(not all) African-Americans who already represent the Republican party..what I have seen is an angered reaction to what they view as traditional Democratic politics amoung the black community...but often does not result in a dialouge of any substance and convinces nobody.

Tancredo will be the person to save our country---for US citizens and LEGAL immigrants---of all races/cultures/nationalities, etc.

A country without laws turns into a corrupt, lawless, third world cesspool!!!  That you can guarantee.

The civil rights movement should NO WAY be used to compare what is going on with the illegals.  Black citizens and their children were entitled to all rights and benefits in this country---as they were LEGAL citizens.  The illegals are not citizens---so they are NOT entitled to rights/benefits in this country---except to be treated humanely while they are being deported.

Bravo to Tom Tancredo. He is one of the few politicians who actually believe in his issues and speaks his own truth, regardless of offending the old guard. I have had occasion to meet him personally several times and could not have been more impressed that this is what the founding fathers intended. He is a citizen first, not a politian. He is in no one's pocket. He also stands strong against the misapplication of the 14th Amendment.I liken him to the boy with his finger in the dike, let's be there for him when he makes his call in the Iowa straw polls on August 11th.

I think it is great that Tom Tancredo spoke at the NAACP convention. We need a candidate for president who is not unapologetic for being Conservative, who is energetic and is unafraid to speak to people who normally don't support Conservatives. Anyone can preach to the choir, it says a lot that he is willing to take his message to those who may not agree.  

Tom went to the NAACP convention because he believes that all issues from health care cost to Iraq to uncontrolled federal spending pass through an uncontrolled Southern border. To that extent while others attempt to box him as a single issue candidate, I have found him intelligent and broad based in his knowledge and agenda.

Tom is realistic about his chances to become President and is focussed on using a candidacy as a platform to present his concerns on "illegal immigration" to as many people as possible regardless of color. His campaign is low budget, commercial coach and taxi and as such he is in contact with hand has the hear of all Americans.

While other candidates are busy selling themselves, Tom is preoccupied selling his heart felt concern for the biggest issue facing us today.

why didn't tom talk about the 300 years the blacks were suppressed,families divided, denied economic opportunities and their culture destroyed by a white majority that is now telling them all their ills are caused by a brown lettuce picker from south of the border?

I am disgusted by the slanted coverage Meet the press and NBC news have provided of the NAACP Republican Presidential debates.  Rather than covering the positions taken by those who attended, you choose to give free publicity to those who did not attend.  Most notably Ron Paul was not named in one of those reports.

Is NBC so dead set on ignoring Ron Paul and other candidates, who reach out to minority voters ,that it is willing to substitute the non-news of non-attendance for the news of lively debate by Republicans who are not afraid to talk to the NAACP?

You ask why didn’t the so-called “front-runners” attend.   I can tell you why.  Because they get the reward of being christened “front-runners” by MSNBC, and get their names spoken over-and-over on national news television.

What reward is given to those active courageous candidates who showed up?  Media-blackout and the falsely being characterized as second tier.  For example, Ron Paul defeated Giuliani in the recent Mackinac Island GOP straw poll, as well as many others.  Yet you call Giuliani a “front-runner” and ignore Ron Paul.

Be fair, give events more attention than non-events, and candidates who campaign as much recognition as those who abstain!
