Obama stars

Obama stood out today at the NAACP forum -- for the first time outshining Clinton at a debate/forum. He took a much tougher, more direct tone than he did at the Howard University debate last month. He was greeted by thunderous applause and shouts -- much more so than any other candidate. And he received the loudest cheers for his well crafted opening speech, in which he weaved the theme "We still have more work to do" throughout.

Clinton and Edwards were fine and delivered adequate answers, but they just could not match Obama’s luster today.

Clinton offered solid policy options and highlighted her experience.

"I expanded Head Start as First Lady," Clinton said. And she received strong applause with her answer on how to stop gun violence. She highlighted policies implemented during the 1990s, but interestingly she didn’t say “my husband” or even mention the Clinton administration.

Edwards was strong in answering a question on voting disenfranchisement, calling for same-day voter registration. He also got solid applause when he said ex-cons should have their voting rights restored. Clinton agreed.

“They’ve served their time,” Edwards said. “Their voice needs to be heard.”

His closing also was interactive and effective. He repeated the refrain, “You believe that don’t you” and got “Yeahs” from the audience.

Obama walked a delicate line on gun violence, taking a bit of a risk by saying, “[What we also have to do is to make sure that we change our politics, so we care just as much about those 30 some children in Chicago who've been shot as we do the children at Virginia Tech. That's a mindset that we have to have in the White House, and we don't have it right now.”

Well, it's about time "our" folks gave Obama his due, instead of supporting Hillary out of blind loyalty to her husband. The Clintons' plantation politics must be stopped!!!
If Hillary has any brains, she won't bring up her husband's administration at all.  The press will do that for her.
Good job Obama!
She got her "experience" from being the housewife @ the white house for 8 years, hence, she needs to bring that up all the time
how much longer do we need colonial kind of rule.."Power lies in the family" kind of attitude. This country can do better than that. For all who think about experience, it is a team that runs so that it will be a sensible decision and not what ONE person wants.
the republicans ran the house and senate from 1995 thru 2001 while clinton was proesident that means that every program he passed had to by law be passed by the GOP run house and senate. so they need to get more credit than hillary deserves.
hillary has made 2 decisions in her political life the first was in 1994 with her terrible medical insurance idea which lead to the dems losing the house and senate and her second idea was voting for this war without even looking at the intelligence report, we can't take another one of hillarys mistakes
Barack is just getting warmed up.  He is a smart campaigner and realizes the time to peak is in another six months.  He has the money and the supporters (258,000 donors!) and the best message.  Game on, Hillary.
the press is doing everything it can to get hillary the nomination, this is the only chance the GOP has at winning in '08. if hillary get the nom obama speaks at the convention, the voters start to get buyers remorse and hillary loses in the fall of '08
HRC shamelessly takes credit for the achievements made by Pres. Clinton and VP. Gore.  I'm sorry to rain on the parade of Hillary supporters, but First Lady does not qualify as executive experience.  Sen. Obama has a decade of elected experience( 8 years as state senator and 2+ years as US senator) while HRC has only 8 years of elected experience.  In his short time in DC, Sen. Obama has shown a willingness to work across the aisle, listen to other viewpoints, and has elevated the dialogue in DC.  He has clearly shown passion to serve this country and do good for its citizenry.  That's who I want as my POTUS.
just remember since 1980 every time the dems nominate someone on the ticket from the northeast they lose.
1984 ferraro-NY vice president
1988 dukakis-TX President
2000 lieberman-CT vice president
2004 kerry-MA president

every other time they nominate any two candidates from any other region they win.

NO hillary in 2008
"I expanded Head Start as First Lady."

This is the first time I've heard Hillary tell us specifically what her White House executive "experience" consists of -- expanding head start.

I'm really trying not to laugh but it's darn hard.  Don't get me wrong, head start is very important.  But this is what the media continues to boast about when they talk about Hillary's "experience."  I'm so tickled that she's finally admitted she doesn't have any White House executive "experience."

Don't you love how she discussed policies implemented during the 1990s but STOPPED short of trying to take credit for them?  Bill certainly didn't give her credit for anything in his memoir, "My Life."

I've said many times, You have to listen to Hillary with 2 to 3 sets of ears to really hear what she's saying.

Hillary is trying to blur the lines and make Americans believe she has White House executive experience.  And so far, she's been quite successful with the assistance of the media.

Now I can tell all my family and friends and neighbors that I've finally learned what Hillary's White House executive "experience" is -- expanding head start.  You go girl!

Sorry guys...I dumped on you in an earlier post for not giving Obama his due today.
I was at the NAACP forum today and you could feel the love that African-Americans have for the Senator from Illinois. He had the crowd at hello. The amount of grassroots support for Barack Obama was truely evident today in Detroit.
troy (2:55), Mike Dukakis was from Mass., not Texas.
Wow!  This is great to hear.  Would love to see some video of the forum.  I agree, Barack is just getting warmed up.  I've done a little volunteering on behalf of the campaign, and its evident that a lot of people don't know much about him.  Once they learn, they'll join the movement for real change!!!  Gobama!
Hillary means:

Hooker & hooligan family value
Impeachment
Lincoln bedroom converted to Motel 901
Lewinski, lie & sex in the oval office
Abstracting of justices & Perjury
Rwanda holly cost
You sure Obama stalker
I caught that line about Head Start too, but here's my question. How does a First Lady have any authority to expand a government program? Did she sign a budget? Did she write the legislation?

I give her due credit for being in and around the white house, but I am sick of people trying to pretend she was President, Vice President, or Chief of Staff, for that matter. She was a very involved First Lady, and it ends at that.
Troy in Ithaca,
Just because Hillary is the Jr. Senator from NY doesn't make her a northeasterner.  And I guess, we should forget about JFK when it comes to democrats from the northeast.

It is also good to see you say the press wants Hillary to win the nomination because it is the only chance the republicans have to win.  I guess you don't buy that "liberal media bias" line your GOP boys are always crowing about.
I have been saying for months that the media is wrong about the Black Community and their suport for Obama.  If the Black community feels you are authentic--you will feel the love and get the votes.  HRC said when she began her run.."I am in it to Win it." that turned me off.  I like her but her time was in 04.  Sen. Obama said when he began his run  for the Whitehouse.  Join me in this quest...He was humble. He said he respected the Back vote and would have to earn it like any other community.  If he gets most ot the black vote he will win.  Because he has a lot of other communities supporting him.  But the Black vote will be critical in key states SC... but be aware---when Obama begins to rise.  They will be comming after him.  Stay tuned...
47 years since the last northeastener.  47!  Thats how far you have to go back.  And HillBill isn't a northeasterner now?  They couldn't load up the truck and move to Beverly, ooops, Chappaqua, fast enough when they left Arkansas, flipping the bird at us as they drove out.

Hate doesn't even begin to describe how people down here feel about them.
Nick, IL, Obama is the closest candidate the democrats have to JFK, if you want to bring that up.
amazing how little news coverage this debate has generated.  Could it be because Clinton lost to Obama?  It's only news worth airing if it is Hillary who wins???
Wow lee kim that's too much hate.

Even Michael Moore gave Hillary some credit for her healthcare efforts...

I mean she does govern by popular demand but she knows right from wrong even if she won't support what's right. But I mean she's not really the devil you present her to be, geez
Jeff Morgan, Obama is more close to JFK's brother, Bobby (or at least I would hope).
Plain simply a fluke, Osama! Fox sure is right about you.
Please. State senator doesn't count much as experience. Wait it and this is what you get.

Clinton: Senator- 6 Years
Obama: Senator- 2 Years

Clinton has 6 years as Senator, Obama has 2.
8 years of state senator is worth one year nationwide approximately.
So it is weightwise, 3 years for Obama and 2 years for Clinton if you don't count other things like First Lady. Osama also is a stubborn git, and you should see National Journal's 2006 vote Ratings- that's right, Obama is more liberal than Clinton. I also just think, the polls conducted by SurveyUSA show Barack Obama doing horribly against Giuliani. He is losing reliably Democratic states like California, New York, and Massachusetts- 98 electoral votes lost. That is more than Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida combined. Since he is such a joke, it would be unadvisable to send this nutter of a crazy idiot to be president.

Sorry, people, but if you want to rally against Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama is not the right candidate.
Head Start hasn't helped keno, and he's been in now for a few years.  Why even keep it around?
I've known from the first time I heard Barack Obama speak that he would be the next President of the United States - even if the media has not come around yet - you're correct, they've already elected Hillary, or at least that's the way it's sounded to me from the beginning - sorry, they're wrong!!!
"Obama is more close to JFK's brother, Bobby (or at least I would hope)."

won't disagree with that
A black candidate for President gets a good reception from the NAACP.  Wow!  I mean, that's unbelievable!  Earth shattering!  How could that happen?  Talk about a big news story!
Yiannis.  When I was a boy, I idolized Bobby Kennedy.  Bobby Kennedy was a hero of mine.  And Barack Obama, he's no Bobby Kennedy.
Way to go Obama!
So I guess without saying it is going to take a woman from Illinois to teach you northeasterners how to be successful in politics?  Don't you have anybody up there who is successful in politics?  And please don't bring up Edward (burp) Kennedy, he murdered his career and a woman all in one night in 1969.
sorry i meant to say texas i was thinking about his v.p.

just remember democrats do not nominate any northeasterners for pres or vice pres. we would be sure to lose.
to nick A.

Hill reps NY but the funny thing is that if she had of waited until 2004 to run for the senate from her state of birth illinois we may never have gotten barack. thank god for that she didn't wait.
also remember the press is made up of the same demographic that makes up the G.O.P.: educated rich people from the suburbs in thier 40's and 50's.

rich people hate change, even positive change.
also today on hardball chris mathews brother james called the senator from illinois "osama" again.
you can find it on msnbc video highlights or youtube.

the media is so racist.
Obama truly deserved the standing ovation bestowed on him July the 12th! Americans and indeed the world should be warming up for good because here comes the First Black President!
Lilly, the difference is that Clinton is running on her "experience." Its an empty approach that doesn't withstand scrutiny.
Barack Obama is exciting all Americans, brown, tan, pink or creamy and shadings in between.  Scan the faces of the people that come to his rallies --Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.  People are rooting for him not because of race but because they feel the vibes -- they come through -- his decency, intelligence, depth, thoughtfulness. dedication to a greater vision of America, our children and communilty. He truly represents our democracy.  We will be proud of Obama as President.  He is our best, our brightest.  Read his books.  He will bring a wholesome shining vision worldwide.

Do all Obama supporters not know how to use the Submit key?  Once people.  Press it once.
America usually gets the president the American people deserve. It may be an indication of the literacy rate of the country too. Going on that basis and going on the basis of the calibre of president the country elected last time, it seems Clinton will win the election.
Hopefully, America will be smart enough to elect Obama for President. The first big step, however, is to help him win the nomination. This is a call to all you Obama supporters to get out and volunteer....campaign for this young, insightful, exciting, and intelligent candidate.  Knock on some doors, make some phone calls...help the cause so that it truly will be Obama '08! Check out his website for upcoming events near you and have the pleasure of meeting him personally.
WAY to GO Mr. OBama, a hero for many a savior for America!!!!!!!!!!!
Iam a black woman and i do not suport obama not all black people suport obama
