We dig the fun campaign emails

From NBC's Mark Murray
Politics -- particularly in a presidential cycle -- can be a nasty, divisive, and cynical business. That's why it's refreshing to see some of the front-runner campaigns show off some humor in their email memos (both morning and weekly) to the press. We're definitely fans.

The pioneer of these emails was ubiquitous Romney spokesguy Kevin Madden, who sends out the daily "Romney Rundown," which lists Romney's schedule and other important info. But the best part is the good humor -- like this from earlier in the month: "Good morning, folks- TGIF. By the way…I know for a fact that Terry Sullivan down in our South Carolina office only pays $12 for his haircut. And you can tell just by looking at him."

Recently, Edwards spokesman Eric Schultz began issuing a "weekly update" email to reporters summing up the candidate's week. Friday's included this: "Greetings from the Chapel Hill pizza parlor, our new office free of 'suspicious packages,'" referring to the campaign's evacuation due to a suspicious package.

And the Giuliani camp is the latest to get into the act, with spokeswoman Maria Comella's "Morning Update," which includes this: "PS. I know all of you have it nailed down that while serving as Mayor, Rudy Giuliani cut taxes 23 times. It’s time you learned some new stuff. Get excited for your 'fun fact of the day.'" Today's was that Giuliani attended weekly meetings on judicial selections while serving in the Reagan Administration.

Riveting stuff? No. A nice break from the daily grind? Definitely. And certainly not a bad way to slowly work the cynicism out of the national press corps.

I dig rock and roll music...nice break from from all the grinds!
Thanks guy, humor is always a welcome addition.
it sure would be interesting to see who's sending the suspicous packages to edwards, would probably be another watergate
Maybe they have just the right motto:  Come try our pizza, it's the bomb!
What's the big deal about reporting campaign merchandise revenue towards donations?  Not only did I purchase from Obama's site but I was able to add a small donation to my total.  So I am curious as to why that does not count as a donation? And who makes that decision….if he were running a business it would count as profit so what’s the big deal or are you guys just trying to keep a job by finding stupid reasons to dog Obama out?  Maybe since you guys report on the candidates it would have been a wise move to check out their website say 3 or months ago!!!!!  I am sure other candidates are now going to start following Obama’s brilliance…..if they have not already been reporting the same info.
If they need an expert on campaign merchandise, I'm sure Gene Simmons or Vince McMahon is available
Toy, the big difference is that Obama was bragging on the number of donations he got.

Now it comes out, they weren't necessarilly donations at all.
I can say from experience, Chapel Hill has some delicious pizza places.
