Thompson announcement in Sept.?

From NBC's Kelly O'Donnell

Sources close to Fred Thompson say the former senator's official entry into the presidential race with a Tennessee announcement day is "in flux." Joining the presidential contest could  "slip into early September" as advisors describe a September window as "certainly a possibility." Notably, advisers "rule out July."

Why? They say they do not see any benefit in getting in right away, and cite how well Thompson is doing in polling and undisclosed fundraising. "There's no great benefit to getting in immediately. He's made his intentions pretty clear," one says, adding, "Fred Thompson doesn't do anything until he, when he does something, he does it right. We'd rather wait and be up to his standards and do it right then sort of rush things along."

This comes after aides said previously planning had focused on an announcement in the "first half of July."  Not anymore. Aides still call this "the introductory phase."

IRS REPORTING.
NBC News has learned the "Friends of Fred Thompson, Incorporated" will file with the Internal Revenue Service by the end of July. Unlike an FEC filing, this reporting will not provide details on who and how many have donated, but it will give us the first window on how much money Thompson has raised. The window will be June 1- July 31. The more detailed FEC report will happen in October.

NEW ADVISORS/OUTREACH.
NBC News has learned the president of the Catholic advocacy organization Fidelis, Joe Cella, will be joining the Fred Team. Among the new advisers who will attempt to connect Thompson to conservatives and religious communities is Bill Wichterman, who is described as being part of "the values coalition and will be instrumental in reaching out to that community."

Also, Linda Rozett, formerly of the Chamber of Commerce, will become communications director.

OFFICES UP AND RUNNING.
Advisers say they may have a better idea by next week on schedule matters, because today they will hold  a "first big calendar meeting" among senior advisers, instead of what was described as "an ad hoc, guys on a phone call" operation. The meeting will take place at their new offices in McLean, VA. An adviser says "we finally have some structure now we have an office and people sitting in an office." The Nashville office is already open.

Sources say Thompson has a "couple dozen" events planned and most including a fundraising component.

Remember the push to go to war against Iraq?  The White House's PR campaign started up in Semptember.  I think the press secretary was Scott McClellan at the time, but when queried by the press on why war was so urgent then, and not in August, his reply was, "You don't launch a new product before Labor Day."  Perhaps Fred Thompson is borrowing a page from the same playbook.
someone told me thompson has decided to push his anouncement date back to 12/2/08, as if anyone cares
maybe freds waiting for that glowing iraq report so he can endorse bushs stay the course fiasco.
man that picture posted of thompson is one ugly photo, yikes
Would someone please help me understand why Mr. Thompson is considered such a viable candidate? I really don't get it at all. Other than a mellifluous voice, what does he have going for him?
Fewer candidates to fight in Sept. When does Cheney get his new pacemaker? Still think that he'll resign to give Fred the VP spot to run from. Anyway, he can control his puppet Bush from Wyoming... the whole commentary about waiting till September also makes sense if you think that Gen Petraeus will be tagged as a scapegoat for poor progress in Iraq, as some have reported.
There is no instrument that is able to measure my indifference........
Perhaps Fred Thompson is borrowing a page from the same playbook.

Or, perhaps you are just nuts.

Hey Sherri might be indifference is dangerous.
I think rodeo in on to something.
Fred as VP,scary. Chenney with NO pacemaker sounds  better.
Real intelligent responses from the left wingers. Don't quit your day jobs.....
Indendent, take a look at the man's history.  The best descriptive term used for him is a "mainstream, Reaganite conservative."  I'm an independent conservative, also from Texas and I'm totally jazzed about Thompson running. Having been extremely involved in Texas' last gubernatorial race for one of the independent republicans who ran, I would love to support Fred Thompson.  I think he's probably the only politician with the spine to stand up to both political machines, and do what's best for the country rather than special interests, or give in to the far left bleeding heart liberals when someone's tail needs to be kicked.
Here's an excellent site to get info on Fred Thompson's voting record.  http://www.ontheissues.org/Senate/Fred_Thompson.htm

This is a good site regarding information on him in general.

Well, Independent, that's one of the 'biggies': his voice. Another 'biggie' is how he treats women. We know that he has gotten around quite a bit... remember all those chickies who gushed over how 'wonderful' he is and how he should be Prez because of it? Gaaaahhh...

Here we go again... people making important political decisions based on based on absolute crap. Who the hell really cares about his booming voice or how he treats the ladies. None of those have zip to do with doing the job. Whoops... maybe that's just it! We are used to having a President who is clueless about how to do his job so the public just wants more of the same. Yawn.
Don't quit your day jobs.....

Not a problem - they don't have any.
What a dolt.  Take all the time you need, loser.
First Read, one he announces ,will he be required ,by law, to announce the names of those silently donating to his campaign now?
ALL THAT JAZZ...A SONG
LOL - the repubs are so hard-up, they're literally recruiting and begging this ugly, lazy ass to run out of all the other wannabes. Is it because he can read a script better than their idiot-in-chief?
Yea thanks for those independent republicans kinky and grandma, they put perry back in with 33% of the vote. we need a run off in Texas.
The repubs want to go from a stupid, stammering former cocaine-using drunk idiot to a lazy, do nothing former congressman-turned-actor. Did I say ugly, too?
I rather have Fred instead of a woman who can't keep up with her own husband (Hillary).  I rather have Fred than some guy named Obama who has only been in the polical scene for two years.
No more actors PLEASE! The last one ran the largest budget deficits in history (until Shrub and Co infested Washington), raised taxes on the middle class, and 'trickled down' with his voodoo economics. Papa Bush inherited a mess from him which helped cost GHWB a second term.  This guy Thompson is bought and paid for by corporate interests. He is a Washington insider (EX-LOBBYIST) who is attempting to sell himself as an outsider. Don't do it America, don't drink the kool-aid again. Do we want to replace a moron with a bought and paid for, 'chosen' actor??
Thompson isnt the most experienced candidate but he served 8 years in the senate, understands Washington and served on the Council of Foreign Relations. He is as experienced if not more so than Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama.
Fred Thompson is the only candidate with the spine needed to be President. Look to his voting record. Pro American, Pro Family, Pro Gun. Wants the states to decide abortion & gay rights, not federal judges. For the left-wingers that will vote for Hillery or Obama just because she's sometimes a woman and he is almost black, well let's team Fred up with Condi' Rice as his VP. That should make everyone happy as clams. RUN FRED RUN.
I am guessing The Edge has all his retirement money in a mattress not the 14,000 point stock market. I welcome Reagan style trickle down economics. What do you think gave Clinton a balanced budget. Well that only lasted 1-2 years before he handed off a Recession to President Bush. Go Fred. They are already running scared. I'm with Fred dotcom
Thompson needs to cheat on his wife with a prostitute and then hit the media with a "God forgave me" press release.
That way he can get the ringing endorsement and "full support" of the Republican leadership.
If you are looking for a good website about Fred check out http://www.AnotherRonaldReagan.com/

An impressive site by a college student.

Dems used to accuse Republicans of mean-spirited-ness, the radical left has hi-jacked my party.  I was a Democrat, but the steady move to the loony left has me scrambling for a new place.  Polls show that 20% of the Democrats believe Bush knew about or was behind the Twin Towers attacks.

They remind me of the Republicans in '52, after winning the House and Senate they went crazy!  In the next cycle Republicans lost the House and Senate for more than 25 years.

Compared to those calling for the death of the vice president, Fred Thompson looks pretty sane.
Fred won't make a move until all the Republican props are in place - an old rusty truck, red plaid flannel shirt, scuffed cowboy boots, hound dogs - and then the former lobbyi$t and TV $tar will hit the campaign trail.
Thompson could be waiting for America's excitement over the latest Harry Potter release to subside. It would be pretty easy for him to fall through the cracks while Repubs far and wide plug their pink little brains into the latest Harry Potter hijinks. Yesterday a federal judge dismissed charges against 13 ex-employees of KPMG, in what the government describes as the largest criminal tax case in US history. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/07/16/business/main3061910.shtml A perfunctory reading led me to assume the judge was a Bush appointee, since it deals with a 2.5 billion dollar tax shelter fraud benefiting wealthy clients. This was given a twelve second spot, whereas the Harry Potter affair gobbled up the kind of space normally devoted to something like the Lewinski hug. The Harry Potter work is called Order of the Phoenix, a pretentious and phony enough title to introduce the reader or movie-goer to a serving of treakly smarm that would be more aptly named Another Lump of Everlasting BS for the Brain Dead of Gen-Z.
RH Oregon / trickle down economics is great long as your the one doing the trickling and not the one getting trickled on, the trickle has stopped and the top is about to burst, hang on may be a bumpy ride for repubs
-->>> Thompson needs to cheat on his wife

Have you seen her?  Better then anything you see in the magazines you use instead of a wife.
In the 2008 Presidential election so much attention is being paid to the “type” of person running that the big issues are being forgotten, especially global poverty. Non-profit organizations like the Borgen Project are working to bring political attention. This is more important now than ever because there are items in place to end global poverty. The UN Millennium Development goals would cut hunger in half by 2015. As the political race rages on I hope to see more attention being paid to the issue of global poverty.
Ho' hum.....(yawn)
Thompson stands three chances, slim, none, and none at all.
St. Peter himself could run as a republiCANT in 2008, and he'd get beat!
The American People just aren't going to put another one of these guys back in the White House for a very long time, and G.O.P candidates have Lil' Georgie Boy to thank for that.
Fred Thompson will be the next POTUS and it will make you lefties even more bitter, if that's possible.
What about the equal time rule?  Will the other actors in "Law and Order" be pleased if the re-runs are yanked off the air while Mr. Thompson campaigns?
Who cares?
DOW cracks 14000.  Unemployment at 4.5%.

Thank you President Bush and Vice-President Cheney!!
I'm impressed that Fred Thompson's positiveness. So tired of nothing but lefist negativity. It comes from having nothing good to say about their candidates. You can bet if Hillery gets the nod, she won't pick Obama as VP. Maybe she will pick that Communist/Socialist from California, Pelosi whatshername. Slay 'em with the Good Word Fred..
Wasn't Bob Dole a mainstream Reaganite conservative? Sorry Thompson supporters, I'm pretty sure you'll be voting for Romney.
CMattox, Houston, Texas (Sent Tuesday, July 17, 2007 2:32 PM)

Well, CMattox, I have checked out the stuff on Mr. Thompson which led to my question about why anyone should vote for him. He was known at the "lazy" one and his votes show why. No real representation. They are all over the map. Also, I can't get past his Watergate stuff and his lobbying after leaving office.

The man never led anything. I don't think he even pretended to do so. I, frankly, don't get the idea that he is too hot on being president, either.

I'm not being sarcastic. If I've missed something, I'll be glad to hear more but as of right now, I think this guy is worthless.
:: Ho' hum.....(yawn)
:: Thompson stands three chances, slim, none, and none at all

Aren't they just darling when they get overconfident?
And to see the expression on their faces on the Wednesday morning after the election. "But, but, but, but, but, . . . ,the polls said we were supposed to win!!"  Priceless.

Another note..I still don't understand the fascination with Reaganism. Granted I'm under 30 so my perspective may be different. To me he was just another typical politician who managed for the most part to please the electorate(despite Reaganomics and Iran Contra) and weather the Cold War. If you're going to vote for someone..vote for someone on their own merit and track record and not b/c they seem similar to another politician. In that fact you are not voting FOR your candidate but in the memory of another. I swear, I remember Republicans saying the same thing about Bush....and yet they blindly try to follow the same logic over and over again. There never will be another "Reagan"..b/c if you judge a politician by another's standards you always be disappointed.
Republican Forever/   "DOW cracks 14000.  Unemployment at 4.5%." do you realize how utterly meaningless that statement is to average working stiff who's employer won't give them any insurance coverage so that dow number will stay high, thank's for nothing bush/cheney
The none of the above poll beat Fred and all the other little clones wanting to put the Bush tin hat on their heads.I think NOTA beat fred 23 to 19-------gasp-----he reminds me of mccain--too old and senile--if I were a republican I would vote for Ron Paul
+++ Thompson stands three chances, slim, none, and none at all.

Only in Merle's alternative world does "none" not equal "none at all".

Cheney...new pacemaker?  I thought you had to have a heart to need a pacemaker?
The reason Fred Thompson is great is because he is from Lawrenceburg, Tennessee!  Contrary to popular belief, all Tennesseans are not hillbillies!

And as for Fred being "ugly," I don't know about that.  Beautiful women think he's a hottie, and do you know why?  He is SMART and he has charisma.  Great combo there.  He'll be our next prez, and if he isn't, you just "watch me walk away" (song lyrics compliments of Lorrie Morgan, Fred ex).
Thompson only has a total of six years in the Senate.  Clinton, on the other hand, will have had a total of eight years in the Senate by the end of 2008, and Obama will have had four years in the Senate and a total of eleven years in elected office by that time.

Therefore, Thompson has the least amount of experience of the three (unless you count being a special interest Washington lobbyist).
