‘Obama time’

From NBC’s Domenico Montanaro

Obama is up with a radio ad today in South Carolina. The campaign would not release how strong a buy this is. In the ad -- called “It’s Time” -- an announcer proclaims, “It’s Barack Obama time” and calls him a “soldier for justice.” The ad -- playing over soft jazz with a funk vibe -- also touts Obama’s religious, community organizing and legislative credentials. Obama repeats his theme from the NAACP forum of “We have more work to do.”

Here’s the transcript:
Announcer: It's time. It's time for Barack Obama

Obama: I know what you know. Despite all the progress that has been made, we still have more work to do. We have more work to do when more young black men languish in prison than attend colleges and universities across America.

Announcer: It's Barack Obama time. A Christian family man, community organizer, civil rights lawyer, courageous legislator, and US senator who's told the truth as a soldier for justice.

Obama: We have more work to do when the black incidents of HIV/AIDS and diabetes, and every other illness is multiple times higher than the rest of the population. We've got more work to do when it takes a hurricane and bodies floating through a street for us to recognize race and poverty in this country.

Announcer: The time is now. Barack Obama for President

Obama: I'm Barack Obama and I approve this message. Paid for by Obama for America.

Barack Obama showed his judgment and leadership on Iraq by stating very clearly that the time to ask how we were going to get out of Iraq was before we went in.  He was opposed to this war before it was popular to do, and today he has a plan to end the war by beginning a phased withdrawal of our troops with the goal of bringing all combat troops home by March 30th, 2008.
I agree; it's Obama time, not Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton time.
Best line of ALL the debates.  Hillary will play the "I asked the Pentagon card" forever. She is a sleazy chipmunk of a person.  Why didn't she ask before they went into Iraq.  She was trying to fit in with the majority (at the time).
Awful early, but I guess the Obama camp is looking to ride a little momentum in South Carolina.
Barack made clear that one way he would approach our greatest international challenges is to put to rest the notion that somehow not talking to countries is punishment to them, which has been the guiding diplomatic principle of this administration.  Both the Reagan and Kennedy administrations constantly spoke to the Soviet Union at the time when Ronald Reagan called them an evil empire.
Obama is NOT a "soldier", I'm thinkin' he would pee his panties real quick if he had to do anything resembling soldiering.
How naive to think that a great speaker with great desires to lead this nation out of its current state (which I myself would also vote for) could actually get the support he needs from his peers. He won't! It is too risky, and more risky than hiring a woman leader. In fact, Hillary is just another man at the job. She truly has no (political) gender. Obama sounds good, and he may in fact talk more from the heart than even Clinton. BUT, this is politics, not church or a motivational seminar. It takes the right support circle. He won't get them. And if he does, he will eventually go back and many of the propositions he is making simply because he is going to have to give something in return for their "vote" thus support. Look at Arnold. This is politics people. For this reason, Clinton, whether you like it or not, is the right person for the job. Let her duke it out with a Republican. Obama wont' win. I wish he could, but he won't. Hillary, you got my vote!

Harry Reid mouthed that he would work to bring our "valiant troops home".  Reid would as soon cut the throats of our troops as any Al Quedea.  No one and I mean not one dummycrat should opine at all about anything military. The "cut and run" party will have us fighting on our soil.  I for one hope we do, then the ranks of the leftist defeaticrats will be thinned by the very people they're pulling for at this very minute. I question their patriotism, I always will.  They need it questioned, and often.  They have lost their spines decades ago and there is no hope of them ever regaining one. MSNBC, CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC all work towards whatever and whoever is against the United States.  If any of you moonbats have any sense at all you would admit it and see it, I have no hope of that either. Naive cowards all. If you do not stand behind our troops, feel free to please stand in front of them. I understand that this is one of the most wacky far left websites on the net, so I anticipate a heavy edit if they allow this to appear at all. If not AMF
I think that it is important to consider what a candidate brings to the debate.  I want to know more after a debate than I did before it.  In response to a question about Iraqi commitment to establish a viable government, Obama said that the Iraqi government was taking a vacation for a month because it was too hot in Iraq, I was really very impressed.  It is a fact to back up his belief that the Iraqi government is not committed to urgently establishing a viable government.  I was appalled by the Iraqi position and thankful that Obama brought this valuable information to me.  The media should focus to these issues rather than muck around with nuance and innuendo.
THIS IS NOT OBAMA TIME OR CLINTON TIME. BOTH HAVE RISEN TO POSITIONS THEY ARE NOT QUALIFIED FOR LET ALONE BE PRESIDENT! THEY BOTH KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEMS ARE BUT NEITHER ONE HAS ANY REAL ANSWERS. THE PROBLEMS AFTER THE FACT ARE EASY TO SEE. HONEST ANSWERS ARE ANOTHER MATTER.
Dream Team for me:
Hillary Clinton / Barack Obama
Good for 16 years of Progressive peace and prosperity! :)
You bet it is Obama time. The only question is whether there is anything left after the bush crime family have depleted our treasury, plunged us into the worst financial crisis, and ruined our name for decades to come. I like the fact that Obama had the vision to meet with leaders of rogue nations. Imagine what could happen if N. Korea, Cuba, Iran and others of that ilk join the world community...I guess the repubs would have to find another enemy to hate to justify their war machine mentality. I hope that Obama captures the Dem nomination...since I fear that Hillary has too much negative baggage to be elected.
Jan - I don't think Obama would accept the running mate spot, should Clinton be nominated. Being the second banana on a losing ticket hasn't exactly been a springboard to future success.
Time to turn the page. Hillary will be more of the same. The GOP? They have shown us what they can do to America. Will Obama be effective? I don't know. But I know more of the same is not the answer
Obama should not be on Hillary's ticket.  He would end up like Gore....being punished for her escapades.

Gore should run with Obama as his running mate.  Guaranteed win.
William- I'm definately on board with a Gore/Obama ticket.  It would be a landslide.  We can only hope at this point.
Conservative Rex.
I don't see you ass over in Iraq, but I know people who have been. I support them but not the person that sent them there.  I am so tired of you redneck punkasses calling other cowards because they don't agree with the lies that put us at WAR in Iraq to begin with.  The Saudies were in the planes that hit the towers not Iraqies.  The US trained Bin Laden but can't seem to catch him?  The President of the US promised us that he would not go unpunished, but has yet to find him.  The US military can look through my window of my house with a satalite but can't find Bin Laden in a cave????  Guess you Brave Commander-n-Cheif just doesn't have the nerve to find the son of family friends.  But he sure was willing to send members of my family into a war.
Wonder how long after obama is elected(doubt it)will it be before some muslims "demand"he embrace the religion of his father, gunna be more interesting than a stupid cartoon.Just like if you have a jewish mother, you are a jew,you got a muslim father, you are a muslim(thats how THEY will see it).As far as they are concerned if he dont embrace islam,he will be "dishonering" it.Wonder how he is gunna handle it,the dems will wanna change to a muslim nation so they dont get "upset".
Obama/Warner would be my choice.

Another might be Obama/Richardson, but Richardson has come across to me as so awkward as a candidate. Janet Napolitano also might shore up the Southwest. Evan Bayh is often talked about as a running mate, but it would be an odd pairing with two Midwesterners - though Clinton and Gore were both Southerners and won. Another possibility is Kathleen Sebelius, though I'm not sure she could deliver Kansas.
Why not Obama-Gore?  Gore clearly isn't up for the big race, but nothing would stop him from being VP twice, and he could easily resume that role.  That's my dream ticket.  Are there discussions going on?  One never knows...
Perhaps the Obama campaign got concerned about that South Carolina poll last week.

Or maybe this is their way of just getting the public familiar with him and his message throughout the rest of the year to prepare them for when the do some serious door to door, direct mail and all that.

I'll agree that 'soldier of justice' is just over the top, heh.

Frank Luntz asks his focus group the Obama-Hillary/Hillary-Obama question; some of you are going to be surprised.
vote a younger person in.Europe has young leaders thats why they are progressive.Old people still have the cold war mentality.I want to see the young progressive americans.
Am I the only one concerned with our executive branch of most powerful country in the world being run by the same 2 families for 28 years??? Im sorry but shoot first ask questions later is a foreign policy I am tired of...Go Obama
Barack Obama is fighing a losing battle.  He surely knew before he threw his hat in the ring that he would eventually come face-to-face with the "experience" problem.  And now it has begun, and last night's debate gave Hillary the opening she had been waiting for -- to prove who is really ready to be our next Commander in Chief.

I urge anyone reading this to consider the implications of electing a man with limited experience who cannot even master a debate among his own peers.  Think of the general election debates.  Obama is not our guy.

it is obama time! i thnk the senator took a bold move when he stepped out there to say he would talk with iran and other countries! what we are doing now is definately not working! you know that old adage, 'KEEP YOUR FRIENDS CLOSE,BUT YOUR ENEMIES CLOSER' thats what we need to do it worked for kennedy and reagan! and as far as experience what the hell does that really get you?!!.. nowhere look at the senators and gov. that are running for president they have all been in washington for years and what have they accomplished not much im tired of thr same talk from these same politicians its time for a new face! barak obama! at least he can bring is hope for the future! one of the greatest presidents in history was our 16TH president abraham lincoln and he didnt have any experience when he was elected to office! this conutry is not ready for hillary! sorry!
Progressive peace and prosperity????? When did that ever happen? Not during Clinton's years. There were more wars and killing going on then than now.
I wonder how many of you out there who think that Clinton and Obama have the answers on Iraq have BEEN to Iraq to fight....or are even in the military? If not, then please don't speak about that which you have no understanding or knowledge of....just like Clinton and Obama....when we are forced to fight in Georgia, NH, and California...then come back and tell me what you think of Obama and Clinton!  Oh, wait....you'll be too busy running for your life and those of your children!
Wow, Rex! The venom! So, because I don't support our men and women in uniform being slaughtered on a daily basis, in the name of a conflict which was none of our business to begin with, I am a "wacky far left moonbat", who should be "thinned" in the streets? Wow. I suppose that my non-support of the idiot who's been dragging this country down for the past 2 terms qualifies me as a... What were your silly words? "Dummycrat"? "Defeaticrat"? Well, so be it. Your rhetoric will not change the fact that the "wacky far left" is what will ultimately save this country.
To Rex: wow... your just in a dream world. You dont deserve a response, but i want to note that your just in a dream world. A delusional texas dream world. wait.... Lil' George?
Clinton is the anti-christ and a lier.  I don't believe a single word that comes out of her mouth.  She repeatedly flip-flops on issues and is simply regurjitating, word for word, what she's learned while her husband was in office.  She tells you exactly what you want to hear, because she's a good politician, but the wrong choice for President for our country.

If you want another 4yrs of the same old thing, Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton, then by all means vote this "woman" into office.

But, if you are tired of the pathetic state of our country and demand change, then I highly recommend voting for another candidate.
cd/ri; I guess you are one of the far left rich folks from NE. You don not have to work for a living or pay taxes like most rich folks. DUMMYCRATS the party for the non tax paying far left who would rather see folks murdewred in the streets of AMERICA than admit they are WRONG?
How blind are we "the people?" The hands that totally now control the "Republican" party are changing their hats: they are now bringing us their "new and different" puppets: (Hillary, Gulliani, and if all fails, rethreaded Fred Thompson)... Expert at spitting on, smearing, maligning anybody or anything that could interfer with their further, endless use of American Bodies to die for their interests anywhere on this globe - they set their proven machinery of personal destruction in motion... CLEARLY OBAMA CARES THEM THE MOST ! And equally clearly, they are BETTING ON our APATHY or STUPIDITY... they have gotten drunk with their success in manipulating US. HAVE WE GOT THE BRAINS AND THE BACKBONE TO SUPRISE THEM - and SAVE US ????
Ann, I agree.  Those who never fought ought to stay out of this debate.  Of course, that would include Bush, who's father got him out of Vietnam with what was then a cushy position in the Texas Air National Guard (he even got to take time off to campaign for fellow republicans!) and Cheney, who got how many military deferments?  Oh yeah...five.  And where was it that you served?
There is nothing progressive about you people. Even Europe is rejecting the nanny state over regulated loser policies of the past.
Jon - Annapolis:
Whether it is any of your business or not, I'll fill you in. No, I am NOT a "rich New Englander". I am a divorced, white, working mother, who receives NO assistance, works her ass off, and pays as many taxes as anyone else; MORE than many. How dare you assume anything about me, simply because I don't believe in Mr. Bush's current ego trip. I support every soul in Iraq and worldwide, who is fighting to preserve my liberty. And I shed tears daily, for lives lost for NO GOOD REASON. I have friends and family in the military, and pray for them every day.  What is wrong about that? Remember that old saying about what happens when we "assume"?  Jon, open your eyes. Just because someone has an opinion other than yours, it doesn't mean they are your enemy. (Maybe we should have thought about that before we went to Iraq.) There are plenty of hard-working, tax-paying, NON-"far-left dummycrats", who don't agree with this war. Should I assume that because you're from Annapolis, you're some hard-ass right-wing militant, and far "richer" than I? Take a breath, Jon.
Bill I believe you never inhailed and Monica was on her knees looking for a cigar holder. I will be a great leader from all I learned from your great career. Bill what did you do during the South East Asisa conflict? AHH the LEFT and the dream world they live in!! OH don't forget Jimmy C and give away the country!!
No cd - just a hard working disabled VET with children in the service of OUR GRET NATION!! I believe in Not helping Michael Moore get richer and tired of hearing left - winged propaganda! OBAMA AND HILLARY ONLY solutions are run and hide and creat a larger welfare state. How dare you to assume I favor this war. I carry around my honor and how dare you think I support any war!! You may not like the man but you must respect the office. Haliburton loves Mr Dick and that is a down side of this administrtion. I suggest Mickey Mouse a more viable candidate than anyone from both parties. IT's time for a change _ Ross Perot where are you?????
%%% Ross Perot where are you?????

Making up charts as we speak.
barack hussien obama thats all i have to say (hussien)

i know i have the spelling wrong but you all get the point.
and hillary clinton.   please thats like putting your wife in the drivers seat of a brand new mercedes when she has never driven one.
Do you really believe Hillary would be a candidate for president or a US Senator for that matter if she wasn't married to Bill?  George W ran on his father's coat tails and we all know how that has turned out.  I believe it is time for a totally new direction and people like Obama and Edwards have a lot to offer.  Passion for doing the right thing has been absent from the political landscape for so long I think people have forgotten what great things can be accomplished.
To get back to the theme of this blog post ( Obama's commercial), will he also make commercials pandering to whites, latinos, women, unions, non-unions, employers, employees, the far-left, the not-so-far left, moderates, the old, the young, the unborn?

The guy is a lightweight, he cannot hold his own in a debate with Hillary Clinton or Chris Dodd! C'mon, folks.
A lot of things are said about Barack, that he is "inexperienced", "lacks substance", he is too "young", etc, etc. I think that is all not true, the man is explaining issues in a very literal way, he explains his plans and the way he would try to change the way business is done in DC.
I hear some other words behind the "inexperience", "substance", "too young" talk - hidden racism, and that is what he (Barack) is saying, we need to get past that. "A person ought be judged on his/her character and not the color of his skin". Dr, Martin Luther King, Jr.
I am optimistic like he is that the American people are very wise people and are really hungry for change.
Barack would make a good president, peoples president.
Dirty politicians always like to stay on the side of victory. Clintons have brought us with Bush into the Iraq war. Many earls supporters of the Iraq war have pulled out because they do not have any backbone. So thay run for presidency and only their victory counts for them. What they do is a colossial shame in the American life of us. Obama is a jerk who will run away if Al Qeda or Bin Laden will fire a shot in Am,erica. Hillary would hide behind Bill and grab the skirt of Monica Lewsinsky. Ted Kennedy is worried to put out his nose because the death of his girlfriend in MA and he was hiding more than a day. OK Ted does not run because he has destroyed himself on moral base but influencing the Senata very shamefully.
So those characters want to win the USA Presidency? It is more than a shame! Where is our moral today? Hillary wants to fly the Mexican flag over our American flag....shame and shame after shame...

A case for Obama/Biden '08.

The thing about Obama is that he is brilliant.  He has a once in a generation mind that will be able to manufacture novel and innovative solutions to the ancient problems that have plagued all nations throughout history; namely scarcity, difference and greed.  If you analyze the contents of his propositions, they reflect a thorough understanding of the historical consequences of governmental intervention in foreign affairs, economics and social and cultural dynamics.  He looks to the past to learn from our mistakes in order to forge a better path through the future (i.e. various mentions of Kennedy/Reagan's foreign policy, LBJ's Great Society Program, his own history in inner-city community development).  Given that he was a professor at the University of Chicago School of Law, a law school that is equal to Harvard, Yale and Stanford in prestige, his mastery of the intellectual and theoretical underpinnings of how and why human society has adopted its present construction should be no surprise.

The main sticking point is the question of experience.  And this is where Joe Biden would be a great asset.  Senator Biden has been a prominent senator far longer than Obama and Clinton combined.  He is head of the Senate Committee of Foreign Relations.  If anyone is going to know how to manipulate the Senate to get things done, it would be Joe Biden.  If anyone is going to know the key players in the middle east and other troubled areas in the world, its going to be Joe Biden.  However, the knock on Senator Biden as President is that he does not really have a domestic agenda, he does not have the subtlety required to be a masterful President, nor does he have the intellectual verve to perform the acts of genius that are required for our country to be better than what is or has been.  However, he would be an excellent mentor to President Obama and would be an excellent President of the Senate.

The alternative is Clinton/Richardson in '08.  Although they would probably win in, they'll have policies that will be  reactive as opposed to proactive and will cause the Dems to lose power for another 20 goddamned years.
Clinton is just angry because she expects the nomination and presidency given to her on a silver platter. She has more experience? Oh, please, what kind of worn out arguement is that. She trys to brainwash people into thinking she has the most experience, there are plenty of people with more. I surely hope Obama wouldn't join a Clinton ticket, or choose Clinton on his ticket. Obama would be a great LEADER, forget about VP. Oh, and everybody knows that polls are BS.
What experience does Clinton have.  She was first lady before becoming a senator.  Does that mean that Laura Bush can run for president also. God Help us!!
Has Hillary every held any office prior to becoming  a senator.  Barack work in the community and was all Illinois State senator for 8 years before becoming US senator.  He is the one with the  real experience. Hillary is trying to piggy back off of her husband.
July 25th, ;07

Yes, I agree whole-heartedly.  It's very much time for Barack Obama to be president.  Actually, something of this great magnitude should've happened about a century ago.  But, I'm glad it's happening now.  This history-making event of Barack Obama becoming America's first African-American president is something I'm proud to be part of.  Yes, indeed, we no longer have the "...wolf by the ear..."  In my Jeffersonian political soul I believe even Thomas Jefferson would recognize that it IS time for an African-American to be president because this would make him proud to see the Declaration of Independence he wrote is being more fully realized.
