Iraq

Yesterday, Bush made another case that Al Qaeda in Iraq is a threat to the US. "Bush made provocative new assertions Tuesday about Al Qaeda's role in Iraq, using recently declassified information to make his case that the global battle with the terrorism network — and Americans' safety at home — hinges on keeping U.S. troops there to fight. Bush's comments were met with skepticism by some terrorism experts and former U.S. intelligence officials, who said the president exaggerated or even misrepresented the facts in Iraq… Bush's impassioned 28-minute speech was the administration's longest and most detailed argument to date that Al Qaeda in Iraq and Bin Laden's terrorist operation were one and the same. Bush used it, he acknowledged, to rebut his critics' assertions that the Iraqi militant group was not justification enough for keeping U.S. troops in the war-riven country."

The New York Times front-pages Bush’s relationship with Iraqi Prime Minister Maliki. “In sessions usually lasting more than an hour, Mr. Bush, a committed Christian of Texas by way of privileged schooling in New England, and Mr. Maliki, an Iraqi Shiite by way of political exile in Iran and Syria, talk about leadership and democracy, troop deployments and their own domestic challenges. Sometimes, said an official who has sat in on the meetings, they talk about their faith in God.”

The House will take up a measure today that would ban the establishment of permanent US military bases in Iraq, NBC’s Mike Viqueira reports. The free-standing bill will be put forward by Rep. Barbara Lee (D), a leader of the "Progressive Caucus" in the House. Dem leaders aim to put the item on the floor this week, with two more Iraq-related measures on tap for next week. The next four weeks after that are devoted to recess.

Salon's Walter Shapiro believes Monday night's YouTube debate actually exposed a division on the issue of Iraq between the major candidates. "The issue that exposed these Democratic divisions was, in essence, what should a new Democratic president do about the Iraq war? The fault line Monday night was primarily between Bill Richardson (‘I believe we should bring all the troops home ... in six months with no residual forces’) and Chris Dodd on one side, and Joe Biden (‘There is not a single military man in this audience who will tell this senator that he can get the troops out in six months’) and Hillary Clinton (‘Joe is right’) on the other.”

Why would anyone believe "THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER."
He is the enabler of AL QAEDA, he has destroyed Iraq and America.
The threat is real the way it has been dealt with has been ass backwards and for that the american people will not forgive George Bush and the neoconmen that have betrayed us with incompetence more than any one thing that has gone wrong pure unadultrated  incompentence
Joseph Goebels said it best....keep repeating the same lies over and over and the people will believe it.

You're down to 30% Bush, better repeat it louder and more often.
bushs iraq is the equivalent of the french maginot line and just as the germans simply went around the maginot line the terrorist simply use iraq as a training ground and then let bush import them to replace American workers and then after they attack us again bush will fly them out just like he did the saudis ater 9-11.
The largest share of violence in Iraq remains of a sectarian nature. That violence likely won't subside materially unless a political solution is developed that brings Iraq's peoples together under a mutually acceptable arrangement or one side ultimately triumphs after much bloodshed.

If the U.S. is to influence the outcome compatible with its interests in the region, it needs to take the initiative to put together a conference modeled after that which took place in Bonn to form the transitional Afghanistan government. Such a conference would be hosted by the United Nations (UN), Arab League, and/or Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). It would be attended by Iraq's factions, and it would also involve all of Iraq's neighbors and the United States. Such a conference would aim to create a pluralistic legal framework that protects minority rights, guarantees full political participation by all Iraqis, precludes the kind of domination by the Shia that would put them in a position to oppress Iraq's other peoples, and provides a sharing of oil revenue. Such a conference would establish a transitional Iraqi government that would be comprised of all of Iraq's factions. Later, once Iraq has been able to build political, economic, and legal institutions, future governments would be elected. To get there, one would need negotiations and compromises.

Such a solution needs to be worked out simultaneous with the ongoing troop surge. Power and diplomacy are not mutually exclusive. Once power is removed from the equation, the diplomatic outcome can only shift toward the party that has retained its leverage. In this case, Iran would be that party.

Once the U.S. has committed to major withdrawals or expectations for such an outcome solidify, Iran and other hostile elements could well decide to "wait out" the U.S. until such a withdrawal has taken place. Then, Iran could prove uncooperative and ultimately use its strengthened position to bring about the outcome it desires. Such an outcome would almost certainly run counter to the critical interests of the United States and its allies in the region.
I wonder if this crazy - - - - - - - (7 letters) ever holds cabinet meetings with shadow puppets?
> I wonder if this crazy - - - - - - - (7 letters)

Liz Edwards has not mentioned if her husband attends these meetings.
Al-quida never left American soil. The American Terrorist version ( the christian right) is still trying to bring about the Final day's. Dave/jerry/lee/jtb & all other right-winger's that post on here are complicent in their terrorist without a gun mentality. So yes, he is right, they are here, The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere. Click your heels together & repeat after me, "The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere,The boogeyman is everywhere". DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER.
"Elevate those guns a little lower"-Andrew Jackson
"...some terrorism experts and former U.S. intelligence officials, who said the president exaggerated or even misrepresented the facts in Iraq…"   Is this a nice way of saying he lied?
Oh, and did Bush also forget to mention that Al
Queda is only in Iraq because of his actions.  It's time for Bush to stop trying to facilitate End of Days. As Don above said, without a political solution (which seems highly unlikely) sectarian violence (civil war) will continue.
Sixteen months and counting.
If you listen to the extreme left nutjobs, then Mike Gravel is their only candidate.
Jerry it pays off to sow the seeds. Those young people from 2004 are surely older now and see what happens when someone is complacent with their vote.
A Sunni Arab bloc has decided to boycott Parliament today.
What is it with you people? We are under the leadership of a great man (President Bush), who has led this country with a heart and a passion for America. We are not having to fight a war on our streets or in our communities. I have 3 sons who have walked on foreign soil(Desert Storm & Iraq). When a race of people teach their kids at a young age that to please Alla you must die, there's something wrong. Two of my sons are out of the military and I have another still in the Marines. I am very proud of them and what they have accomplished. You people need to quit complaining and spend some time on your knees before God. We need to support President Bush and his Administration. You need to read a book, "Jerusalem Countdown" by John Hagee.
jerri the perfect repub. wife.
Can 1 advisor with a backbone tell this idiot commander in chief that the main al-quida threat to us is in Paskistan whereby they have gotten stronger and we have outsourced our sercurity to Mushsharif who is barely holding on with increased suicide bombings and civil unrest and a nuclear power at that. SHRUB YOUR FEAR TASTICS ARE NO LONGER WORKING!
I guess we have heard from one of the remaining 20% or so who still support the idiot in chief.  Apropo the on going terrorist threat in the US, anybody else see the item from the commander of the North American defense force saying he needs to up his troop strength from one brigade to three to protect the American people in the event of another attack?  Why are so many troops needed to respond to such an attack?  Is it to provide security for people injured or property destroyed or is this part of another neo con gambit to have martial law declared and next years elections postponed?
Bill John-It will be a cold day in hell before I support a meglomaniac who lies to us about WMD and has refused to abide by the rules (checks and balances)of our great democracy. I pray for your son's safe return as I do all of our soldiers. All Muslims are not as you say teach their kids to kill for allah....sorry that is ignorance as well as bigotry. I suggest you read the U.S constitution.
Bush looked into Putin's eyes and saw his soul. Ironically, Putin got busy rolling back freedom of the press in Russia and taking advatage of America's drop in super power status....now Bush is projecting himself onto Maliki. Another Bushie "soulmate." My question: can the US afford to wait until '08 to replace this narcissistic bumbler with a functional US leader?
Bush is not God---J countdown is the story of the rapture and armageddon. I have friends that follow Hagee ---------If Bush is in the Bible he had to be one of the money changers in the temple.Ever since Karl Rove proclaimed that Bush was born-again the religous right fell under his spell. Now,since has not performed to their liking he has been lost his standing.Terry Schaivo, gay rights, and abortion were all promised to be stripped away---since it has not happenned I gues he just is not GOD
All the military parents that I know are proud of their children and their accomplishments.  That doesn't mean we have to support Bush.  I pray for God to show us the way out of this mess and to save us from the arrogance, ignorance and incompetence of this administration. The callous use of troops to persue a personal vendetta, the inability to admit to mistakes, immature stubborness, misleading the American people; those are not the hallmarks of a great leader.  Another family friend is heading back to Iraq in a couple weeks on his second deployment.   Throughout this war there has only been a couple months when I did not have a family member or friend serving over there.  If the republicans win the presidency in '08 will we have troops going over for their 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th deployment?
Bill Johns.

It is unfortunate that you and the rest of the "end-timers" can't just have your Armagedon by yourselves and leave the rest of us alone.

I am sure that you will be playing the trumpet and waving the flag when you follow the Great Decider off the cliff with the rest of your fellow lemmings.

"One Trick Pony" Mel has shown up.

Same-old.  Same-old.
BUSH IS THE LIAR THAT CAN NOT LEAD BUT FAILS AT EVERYTHING! The only place he has led us is into the valley of the shadow of death!
Allison,
Mel can play the piano and the organ.  She does not do tricks with Ponies.
You must have her confused with some one else on your corner. Have you asked Rudy..he is in the red dress on the corner of Corn and Row.
can't just have your Armagedon by yourselves <<

Attendance for the "Armagedon" (Armageddon for you Scrabble players out there) is mandatory for everyone.  This is a formal affair, so please dress appropriately.
H P Boston----Did you call your man Kennedy and wish him a very happy 38th anniversary?  Remember what happened 38 years ago?  anyone? anyone? Bueller? Bueller?
Dennis E., I had not seen that report about the commander of the North American defenseforce. Thanks for the info.
Bill Johns--Waynesville, Ga wrote, "What is it with you people? We are under the leadership of a great man (President Bush), who has led this country with a heart and a passion for America. We are not having to fight a war on our streets or in our communities."

Man, Bill, that is a good one.  I laughed so hard when I read that, I was in tears.  Oh my, that is funny.  You were being funny, right?  Sure, you had to be.  Man, that was a good one.  You are hilarious.  Thank you for brightening my day.

Afteral, Bush is a horrible leader, who lacks vision, can't piece together two coherent sentences in a row, doesn't carefully evaluate the consequences of his actions before making decisions, and is a poor listener.  Those are all the qualities of a piss poor leader my friend.
Bill Johns--Waynesville, Ga - If you want to self fulfill your "prophecy" leave me and my SECULAR! nation out of it. Buy some land, build a compound, stop paying taxes, stockpile weapons and food and I guarantee you that FBI and ATF will show up eventually to provide you an excuse for a fiery end. I hear there is some vacant acreage near Waco TX. Knock yourself out.
Allison, where did you come from?  Don't remember seeing your name on this thread before.
Bueller? Bueller?

Did it, involve water sports?
Picture in the local newpaper today had Bush winking at a seviceman man after his speech.  Good thing the podium was big 'cause that naked S.O.B. "Emporer" combined w/the wink looked really odd.
I miss Jane from Southern Mississippi.  I haven't seen her posting on here since several months ago.  Anyone know what happened to her?

Dude, I don't get it.  What the heck are you talking about?
Allison, I live in a small town.  It's a close knit community. I also come from a large family.  So there are cousins, step-children, neighbors, church members (even an army chaplain), kids that grew up with my kids, members of community organizations, children of my sorority sisters, my kids' best friends, as well as my son serving.  We could start the draft and then I wouldn't see the same old, same old families at the airport every few months.

Oh, and I can ride horses bareback and sing, "she's a grand old flag'" at the same time.
Jerry made her sick (like he does to everybody) so she went away.
38 years ago jerry! Was that before you started drooling?  Cause that is what I was doing.
Lets see now the word incompetence. The meaning is :inability to perform ( Bush does exactly what he wants to do) so that is out, lack of competence (Bush knows exactly what he is doing), inept (Bush hasnt failed on any of his initiatives except, immigration and social security to which he didnt make a hell of an effort). You guys throw that word around on Bush like the man has no schooling or any sense at all. What makes any of you on a damn blog so smart as to you can call another man dumb. Some of you probably havent finished high school yet.
Juan: You claim to be the resident genious in here, but judging from your limited vocabulary I can make a judgement as to your competence.
Competence is just one mans opinion against another. You guys hate Bush so much to the point you cant see your own faults. You need to get over that damn Clinton impeachment and move the f.. on. Clinton never got attacked as much as Bush. At least not as personal. This solves nothing.
History will judge, not you or I. Hell people said FDR was a fool. But history has proven the common everyday idiot wrong.
The next President will deal with some issues. Believe it or not, it is not going to be Iraq, watch and see.
Dawn,somewhere in Kansas,
Allison is one of the repuk attack dogs that come into our post to spew garbage. Do not worry they will be gone tomorrow as it is garbage pick up day.
Check the names, they are shadow repuks or the jerry machine was left on. Do not read them, I skip em.
jerry/christ corpus texas --Exactly two weeks shy Jerry, but as long as we are celebrating anniversaries, happy 33rd! If only the current occupant of the White House would follow this lead.
It kind of involved a married Senator (who lost two brothers due to assassination) and a single female staffer who was murdered by the married senator when he could not drive over a bridge.  38 years ago.  H P, did you make some clam chowder and drop in on him to wish him happy anniversary?
jerry is so dreamy.  if only we were as smart.
H P: You need to skip with your 1960's views. Go ahead, shew....
"The Emporer Has No Clothes".....ancient Chinese proverb

He's a naked liar
In the middle- I never said I was the resident genious....I just respond to jerks, bullies and narrow minded morons like yourself.
Inthe middle of TX

Let's talk about incompetence. It has nothing to do with a persons education (schooling), but everything to do with whether that person accomplishes anything with that education or the sence that they have. Immigration and social security are pretty important issues. Maybe he didn't make a hell effort to help solve these because he was making too much of an effort screwing up the Iraq issue. In GWB's case he is the perfect example of the "Peter Principle" which states

In any given organization, certain people will rise to their level of incompetence
IntheMuddle, President Clinton was a great leader and he was brillant. He was respected and still IS!
WE have no faults compared to the shrub..yes we hate him. He is digusting. If he were 1/16th as smart as any Clinton he could probably speak in 2 complete sentences.
He is an abysmal dud!
And you sir did not finish 5th grade. Your grammer is
Atrocious.
Thank you Gary:  Two people; one a murderer and one a resigner.  I guess it goes to show you who had more honor.
Allison, where did you come from?

Jersey girl.

Don't remember seeing your name on this thread before.

Hope there's not a rule against it.  You a cop?
