From NBC's Mike Viqueira
A group of House Democrats will introduce a resolution calling on the Judiciary Committee to begin impeachment proceedings against Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA) will sponsor the measure. It will be dropped in the hopper tomorrow.

It's too early to say whether it will actually get anywhere.

Here's the text of resolution...

RESOLUTION
Directing the Committee on the Judiciary to investigate whether Alberto R. Gonzales, Attorney General of the United States, should be impeached for high crimes and
misdemeanors.
1 Resolved, That the Committee on the Judiciary shall
2 investigate fully whether sufficient grounds exist for the
3 House of Representatives to impeach Alberto R. Gonzales,
4 Attorney General of the United States, for high crimes
5 and misdemeanors.

Slam dunk
They have my full support........ let's tell em ya'll
They can impeach officials whose appointment may only be made with the advice and consent of the Senate.
As long as the Republicans in Congress blindly follow whatever this administration says, nothing will come of this.  At least the Republicans in Congress during Nixon's tenure had ethics.  With few exceptions, that's not something that can be said for most of those serving now.
Sixteen (long) months and counting.
GoNzO-GaTe it just is not going to fade away.Hi Karl !
Any member of the Executive Branch can be impeached by the House of Representatives.  I think the impeachment process should continue after Gonzalez, do Cheney next and Bush after that. They are all a bunch of lying criminals.
Alberto you stink !
Section 4. The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.
Thank God. This man has never answered a single question posed to him by Congress with any amount of honesty.
Article II, Section 4. "The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors."
There is nothing more important then defending the constitution and cleaning up the corruption that starts in the Justice Department and works it way to the Supreme Court.  It's Treason!
The do nothing democrats are not going to through with this - what a waste of paper and ink. They have not done squat since getting elected. Why don't they go after the shrub - darth war money machine? Maybe they are just as complicit as the republician reich.
It's about goddamned time.  They can also add Dubya and Darth Cheney to the list as well.  This admuddlestration disgusts me and makes me ashamed to be an American.
read the constitution - congress can impeach anyone:
Article II, Sec. 4 of the Constitution -- THE CONSTITUTION!

The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the united States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.
This administration is the most corrupt in history. Bush makes Nixon look like Mother Theresa. It's about time we have a Congress that is willing to do their job and not allow this corruption to continue like the previous Congress' have done.
Dear IntheMiddle, Texas:  Aricle II, Section 4 of the US Constitution reads as follows:

The President, Vice President and ALL CIVIL OFFICERS of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors. (Emphasis added).

So, yes.  The US House of Representatives is, in fact, delegated the right to impeach the Attorney General - the AG being a civil officer of the US government - if it deems it necessary. Try looking things up before posting about them next time...
Um, "InTheMiddle,Texas" ... you must be one a Child That Bush Has Left Behind ... please go read the Constitution, the U.S. one.
Good for Jay Inslee. If I lived a mile north of my home, he'd be my representative. As it is, I'm represented by "Sheriff" Dave Reichert, a Republican trying desperately to demonstrate his "independence" these days. There would be no better way to do it than to co-sponsor Inslee's resolution.
Hey Inthemiddle, TX -- Article II, Section 4 reads: "The President, Vice President and all civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors."  That includes the Attorney General.

At Last!!  The Congress really had no choice as the President would have blocked any investigation into the lies and wrong doing of Gonzales.  This country is a Democracy and we are ruled "by the people", Bush thinks he is a king and whatever he says goes.  Time to correct that misconception.
We could save the American people alot of money if we just had one "large" impeachment proceeding. I'am sure there has to be a convention hall in D.C. large enough to handle the entire Bush Administration. Just think of it as one big party.
This is pathetically (and transparently) too late. The Dems were advised six mos. ago, quite publicly, to begin impeachment proceedings against Gonzo. Yes, the Dems, with Republican support, CAN in fact impeach him.

Harry Reid and the Great Ms. Nancy notwithstanding, the Dems are essentially enablers. They are very poor at walking their talk, and although they "need adversaries" by which to define themselves, they always enable their adversaries. That's why their so-called battle on Iraq was limited to one night of filibuster, not one month -- the latter of which would have shut down the war.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH, GET 'ER DONE..IMPEACH THEM ALL!
Who will cover this on MSNBC TV Today?
Bush/Cheney won't let this happen...might end up with someone like Archibald Cox who "WILL" enforce the law!
Congress can impeach Alberto.

You conservos need to read the Constitution. It's about yea big and it has funny writing on that spells out what each branch of government can do. The Congress can impeach the president, vice-president, and any other "constitutionally" ordained position such as Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, whos position is in the Constitutiion vs. Donald Rumsfeld's (former) position which is not in the Constitution. Even Supreme Court judges can be impeached by Congress.
Kathy is correct- Bush left us no choice; unfortunately, I believe this has been the Cheney battle-plan all along: get enough allies in Congress to muddy the waters, stall, obfuscate and outright lie until this is the only alternative. By the time it is all over, no time left for Mr. Big and his puppet- as if they would even cooperate with impeachment. Sooner or late, America is going to realize that these  lying megalomaniacs pulled off a coup, from 2000 until the present. The larger question- will they even care?
You call them a DO NOTHING congress BUT it is REALLY the NEOCON REPUBLICANS that are BLOCKING everything so the congress LOOKS LIKE it is a DO NOTHING CONGRESS.  We have that email now from the RNC calling for STALLING all legislation so that the NEOCONS can say in 2008 that the Dems dint get anything done.
sorry Dave, TN.  I see that
This won't make any difference. Even of they do Impeach him, they will just replace him with another puppet to the neo con agenda. Unless they Impeach the entire administration, this is all just pointless. The Democrats are spinless and should be desperately ashamed of themselves. America will be dead as a free country by this time next year. The neo cons are not going to allow a 2008 election. People need to wake up and smell the fascism. For further insight, I recommend eveyr watch the free movie called "Zeitgeist" - you can find it at ZeitgeistMovie dot com
You know they're in dire straits when Dave, TN and INtheMiddle, TX are the only shills they can get to carry water for Abu Gonzalez!  Lets just hope the Dems can find their balls on this...
I CAN'T RECALL WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT, OH YES GONZO-GATE.
HEY Z, WHATS UP ? "GONZO-gATE"
Democrat, Republican, whatever. It's time to crack some skulls. We the people need to end this lawless culture in our government, no matter who, how or at what level. It's time to impeach.
The Democrats are doing the right thing this is not political thearter this is called justice by the way add in Bush and Cheney that should be impeached for treasion and supporting terrorism and rigging the intel to go to war Bush and Cheney are the terrorist no better then Osma Bin Laden by the way where is that guy now. Yes it is the right of the Congress to go after the AG go Democrats I respect speaker Pelosi but her impeachment is the past and we should focus on the future well the Republican controlled Congress did it to president Clinton why can't we do it to the Attorney General,Bush and Cheney they all need to go before Bush causes World War 3 with Iran.
They all need to go in.  Like they say in baseball "throw the bums out"!!  All of em.
Just another barking session from Congress who is so impotent no viagra and the likes can help.  What a pathetic bunch of 'elected' officials who cannot get Gonzo to heel and disappear.
Bush does NOT have higher ratings than Congress.  See pollingreport.com for the latest polls.

The Democrats are not a "do nothing" Congress.  It is the REPUKES who are filibustering EVERYTHING.  The REPUKES are the "do nothing" party.
When the constitution says that "public officials" can be impeached, it includes those who serve on the presidential cabinet.  Gonzales is a cabinet member, s seventh in line for the Presidency, and can (should and will) be impeached.

Then, next he should be arrested, tried and incarcerated for a long time, preferably in guantanimo.  Thats wat I call a good start.
Just because blow-job was impeached you can't go around trying to impeach everyone in America..Wake-up dem-o-dips.....
Now that all you constitution scholars have briefed me and inthemiddle, one question still remains that you great scholars have not answered.....

what was it that he did to bring up impeachment?

Jim Hassinger let the republicans believe that public is willing to trust them again..when Hannity and Rush convinces them that people will turn again the Democrats. Another electorial defeat when silence them. It's funny they look at the same numbers yet incist on twisting it for their propaganda.
I have called my Congressman to urge him to support the bill, and to support the investigation into Gonzales' high crimes and misdemeanors.  I hope that everyone does the same.
Alberto, George is on line one ,and he dosen't sound very happy.
It's about frelling time!
The Democrats have it all wrong!! The best thing the Democrats can hope for in the 2008 election cycle is Alberto still there , a poster boy for all that the corrupt Republicans stand for.Done right there won't be a single Republican in office higher than maybe a dog catcher or two. If they are smart, and there is very little evidence that they are the Republicans should be the one's pushing him out of office and as soon as possible so we will forget him by November !
I'am sticking to my story, i lied !
Before the next president and congress repeals and revokes all of the dictatorial powers please use them one last time to "extraordinarily render" about a dozen former officials to a secret location for questioning under "stress" for having fought as "enemy combatants" to undermine our country.
ranting and no proof of a crime. Sorry you can't impeach people just because you feel like it.
This is a good start.  They should group W, Cheney and Rice in with him.

I disagree with some saying this is a waste of time because it won't get anywhere.  You have to try.
If everyone listened to "don't bother, it won't work.", then nothing would get done.
