Here are some excerpts of Vice President Cheney’s interview with Mark Knoller on CBS Radio yesterday:

-- on whether he wants AG Gonzales to keep fighting for his job: “I do. I'm a big fan of Al's.”
-- on whether Gonzales needs to clarify his testimony: “I'm not going to get into the specifics of it. I think Al has done a good job under difficult circumstances. The debate between he and the Senate is something they're going to have to resolve. But I think he has testified truthfully.”
-- on whether Gonzales can remain attorney general if Senate Judiciary Committee chairman Pat Leahy says he doesn’t trust Gonzales: “I've had my differences with Pat Leahy. I think the key is whether or not he has the confidence of the President, and he clearly does.”
-- on Libby’s guilty verdict: Cheney said he disagreed with it, that President Bush handled it correctly, and that he’s seen Libby at a number of social events since the commutation.  Libby guilty verdict, the President handled it correctly and that he's seen Libby at a number of social events since the commutation.

The Washington Post: "Cheney's remarks about his former aide, I. Lewis ‘Scooter’ Libby, appear to conflict with the views of President Bush, who said after the verdict that he 'respected' the jury verdict but felt that the 30-month sentence handed to Libby was excessive."

GONZO-GATE...IT JUST WILL NOT FADE AWAY.
How did two such inferior men become our President and Vice President? Their idea of competency is hopelessly skewered. Perhaps its because they rose to prominence by exploiting others, rather than by creating successful businesses. Wealthy people and those from wealthy families are not automatically corrupt. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are billionaires and still functionally ethical human beings. Would Warren Buffet praise an aide for being an excellent liar? Would Gates keep an employee whose projects continually failed? Doubtful. How is it the heads of our government are such jackals?
***See Impeach Gonzales Blog below...with over 220 responces to date. Gonzo-Gate it just will not fade away.Call ,write your elective officials demanding immediate impeachment proceedings begin.
Did I hear someone whisper 'gonzo gate'.
Quick someone go get Zippy a cup of coffee.
G O N Z O  G A T E  I T  W I L L  N O T  J U S T  F A D E  A W A Y.  Hi! Karl
Another day of watching Liberals running around in circles trying to bite each others farts in the air.
It's a great country!!!!
Much like George bush we(democrats) are all fans of gonzo .This cant be good for the law and honor party but if arlen (sound and fury )spector wants this guy around to help with getting elected then thats who represents you. All the better for dems >Remember foley,he was great for the 06 elections .
Just a reminder ,the "pen" is mighter than the sword.
Hey Dick, go *#@k yourself.
It's time for Gonzo-Gate !
remember cheney is the one who keeps saying the insurgency is in its last throes so anything he says falls into the same catogory of being completly WRONG.
Hey Gonzo, what ever happened to Mark Foley ?
Come on, people. Cheney can't be all bad. When he's quail hunting he gets drunk first to give the quail a sporting chance.
Darth Vader not only needed a battery replacement...the man lacks a conscious, soul and ampathy. The man is pure evil.
One of the leaders of the Party of law, order and values.
Perfectly named - Dick.
Still trying to figure out what the AG should be impeached for.  Typical left wing responses to this item so far, How about a real debate?  What has he done to bring an impeachment charge against him.  So far, all the talking heads, lib and GOP, have said there will not be an impeachment against him.
Dems may be biting at farts, but remember- the farts are the aromatic products of the 'solids', a photo of which appears above.
"What has he done to bring an impeachment charge against him. "  A large number of people in Congress seem to feel he might have lied to them, under oath. That would be a crime. Have you a rebuttal?
what was the lie?
Debator: I think a lot of members of Congress lie constantly. They always have. They say everything to fit their agenda. Leihy and Shumer have no room to talk. Their names are not Jesus Christ either.
Excellent, Jerry. I'll just prove therr case right-here right-now to your satisifaction, or I lose the debate. Try to understand: Lying to Congress is a crime. THEY think he's lied. A TRIAL will establish whether or not that is so. Mind like a steel trap - rusted shut.
BBGun1 - every sin has been committed. That means we can repeat them to our heart's content? Is that your appeasment argument to ignore crimes against the Constitution while we fight our glorious fight against terrorism and the "haters of our freedoms"?
Everyone lies, even Jerry CC probably does sometimes, however, when you lie under oath it is considered criminal in our society.  Does not really matter much what that lie is, but under oath to congress, a judge, the grand jury or a regular jury it is against the law.  Don't care who does it, if you do it then you should be impeached, fired, and/or have charges brought against you.
That is why so many repugnants refuse to testify before Congress - they all would either have to take the 5th (and everyone knows that means you are guilty) or lie under oath.  I think that is what will bring down this house of cards - starting with Gonzo.
jerry, have you seen Gonzales testify in front of Congress?????  He says he takes responsibilty for the firing of apparently competent Attorneys, but has no idea how the list was drawn up or what criteria was used for terminating these people. Imagine the administrator of a hospital firing top specialists  without explanation, or a team owner firing a winning coaching staff. Yes, its legal to fire employees at will, but when the manager is called in front of the board to explain the firings he better have SOME explanation. He can't use the excuse, "well, I only have to answer to my President." Not when the board consists of the People of the United States and those elected to represent them. "I don't know why I fired these Attorneys" is not an acceptable answer from the manager of the United States Justice Department. All we hear from him is "I don't know, I don't recall, I know I made mistakes but I can't tell you what they are..." In the business world a manager like this would be fired. In the governmental parlance, he needs to be impeached.
hey jerri knows gonzo is lying but because of her politics jerri will never admit it.  go girl you the perfect repub woman.
for anyone who cannot figure out that gonzo's testimony is in conflict with the FBI director and other govt witnesses, I have some swanpland in FL with a ton of hanging chads for sale.  Union Baby has the right idea...sort it out in a court of LAW, which in this case would be congress as spelled out in the Constitution.
Gonzo lied about the reasons the attys were fired, lied about the extent of his knowlege of the firings and lied about WH involvement in the firings. He also lied about whether or not there was disagreement in the Justice Dept over the warrantless wiretapping program, and lied about his involvement in the 90's in getting then Governor Bush removed from a jury set to hear a drunk driving case.
What did he lie about?
"I, uh, never had no relations with that women".
"I never inhaled".
"I did not have inside information on the WhiteWater deal"
Anything sounding familiar?
And I bet we will hear more of the same from the jerk(R) up in Alaska. They ALL do it, so the vitrolic spewing at either one party or the other alone, is pure hypocritic bs. Most of the Democratic investigations(280+) are nothing but soundbite trolling. If they want to get info on the easedropping, do it with a closed door committee. We are talking about classified information, they can get nowhere in a public Cspan format. Just digging for soundbites.
Just like I've tried to teach my children, If you base something on a lie, it will eventually fail.
Gonzales sings to Cheney "Like a dog like a dog, I leap with joy when you call my name, call me a good boy I wish I had a dog's heart instead of this one For I have loved you like a dog I have loved you like a dog"-"Like A dog"-Greg Brown
jerri fan..if jerri of cc is the perfect repub woman, then I guess she must be working for the DC madam, looks like Ann Coulter and listens to O'Liely.  Her posts really seem to substantiate that.
Debator- welcome to the blog today.  You seem to speak with much common sense and wisdom- be prepared to be peppered by some truly ignorant folks, here.

Jerri fan-  You think she's at least pretty??
The 2006 election allowed the democrats to proceed with these investigations in both houses of Congress. This is how the will of the people will be carried out for now. The attorney general has apparently lied under oath, so he can be impeached. A trial will be necessary to flush out the truth, of course he could resign, but as has been discussed before, a new AG will uncover more problems and will face the same decision of telling the truth or not. This is all very depressing especially when you throw in the fiasco in Iraq, the Katrina bungling and the myriad of other illicit, illegal and immoral acts conducted by this administration and its supporters. And I understand that there are bad democrats who did bad things, but the shear magnitude of the corruption and dishonesty prevalent on the republican side is almost unbelievable, except we know it to be true. I hope we will see soon a large group of moderate republicans reach across the aisle and come to advocate the progressive changes that are needed to preserve the integrity of their party and our country.
Why is it automatic that Gonzalas is in the wrong? Could not the FBI man be the one who is?
Jim: You just lost all hope of any Republicans helping Democrats when you threw in that word "Progressive", cover word for Liberal. There has been corruption in politics as long as I have lived. ALL POLITICIANS LIE!!!! They all are full of it. Nothing is going to happen to this man, get over it.
Yes, BBGun1. But the investigations are like white noise to cover the deafening silence that is the sound of what the Democratic House has actually managed to accomplish.
the lie is that the lawyers worked at the pleasure of the president ,well he didnt even know who or why they had been fired ,he still dont know maybe monica goodling can tell the president why they got fired then tell gonzo cause he dont know .And just because you dont think sexual relations is oral sex when you lie in a deposition it is perjury, which is why we impeached the president so if thats a lie so is the ashcrofft theory that gonzo is floating that muller and comeby and ashcrofft himself will tell you gonzo is a liar.
your right RH everybody steals I guess I should to NOT. It is ourselves not another which we find so corrupt, check the mirror before you include me in on that line up,there are good men and woman everywhere some evil people would rather you think that everyone is bad not so you probanbly arent bad to have abeer with we just wouldnt talk politics ,you see how easy it is to get along .I work with people that belive differently from me ,but if they didnt what would we talk about on break UNITED WE FALL
Sorry Ken, I scrolled back through this whole postings, and I can only say "HUH".
Holy crap !  I am sick of this drivil, no wonder the repukes are underwater. Hey Ken when you get sober come on back.  Can not understand a thing you are posting.
Jim:  If the "sheer magnitude of the corruption and dishonesty prevalent on the republican side is almost unbelievable", aren't you just a little silly to hope that a large group of moderate republicans will reach across the aisle? Or magically become pure, saintly "progressives"?  How could that possibly happen with people so irretrievably corrupt?

And how does one preserve one's party by joining the other party?  I think you want one party and no opposition to your views.

Thanks also for justifying congressional investigations into the lies and wrongdoings of the president and others.  I always knew that the majority Republicans were not abusing the power given them by the voters to go after Clinton.  If it's correct now, it was correct then. If it's "the will of the people" now it was also the will of the people then.  Thanks for clearing that up and supporting our elected representatives' ability to go on political search and destroy missions to the continued detriment of those very voters who gave them the power, then and now.

Also, there is no evidence that Gonzalez has lied under oath, though you seem quite happy to believe it and are ready to schedule a trial.  All we really have is political opportunism and the opinions of Sens. Charlie Schemer, Patrick Leaky and Dingy Harry Reid, people who I personally choose to disdain with all the rancor you show Republicans.  Besides,  from your comment it appears that you have already convicted the Attorney General, so why bother with a trial?  Since you believe it, it must be true.

You and Amy B. should get acquainted.  Stereotypes and generalizations are favored by both of you, even though it appears she is highly enamored of big business, a somewhat contradictory position for someone who seems to have such a good handle on the source of all the other evil in the world, apparently doesn't realize that somewhere along the line, both Warren Buffet and Bill Gates have diversified their assets to include Exxon Mobil, the epitome of corporate evil.  They, like Bush and Cheney, have plenty of oil on their hands, trust me.  And even though both seem to be lovable little fuzzballs now, they didn't get where they are by being lovable little fuzzballs.  Gates has been reviled in the past as a cutthroat business person and a virtual monopolist and in fact has actually been found guilty of distasteful business practices.

But apparently Amy is an expert on who the really good rich people are. Coincidentally they are identifiable as "liberal" or "progressive".  Somehow I think if they were identifiable as conservative or Republican, they would not be held up by Amy as shining examples of good rich people, despite their known and admirable support of philanthropic causes.  They wouldn't be the "right" (or left, I suppose) kind of example.

Meanwhile, I have been a supporter of this administration so Jim considers me by extension to be engaged in illicit, illegal and immoral activities.  Then again, I'm sure he didn't really mean anything he said and that it's just his writing style that's confusing me.

Stereotypes and generalizations.  I have to admit you do some things well.

Thanks for the opportunity to rant.  It seems appropriate here.

RH Oregon,
You are a discredit to a fine state and displaying as much ignorance as the people you defend.  I like something called facts, along with someting called logic, so let's see if you can follow along....  .  1. Mission Accomplished 2.  "Brownie, you're doing a heckuva job"  (Days before Brownie was fired for incompetence. 3.  George Tenet fired as CIA Chief and replaced by political hack who didn't last a year (in the mean time demoralizing CIA employes and 5 top agents quit) Seems to me we need CIA for on Terror. 4.  Rumsfeld's arrogant handling of Iraq planning and execution, which included firing the General who dared say we needed 150 to 200 K troops.  We are currently well over 150 K -- 4 years too late.  5.  Rumsfeld rightly kicked to the curb AFTER Republicans got trounced in the election -- despite Rove's assurances to the contrary (you must be really happy with that one) 6.  Harriet Myers 7.  President claiming executive privilege  8.  Vice Presidential lawyers claiming VP NOT part of Executive (explain that logic!) 9.  VP's Chief of Staff CONVICTED of perjury for blowing a CIA ops cover to support a story even the White House now admits is not true.  Classy.  10.  Gonzales totally incompetent firings, opinions (on things like torture for example)and painfully stupid testimony.  And lots more.  Commonality?  All Reuplican choices, no democrats made that happen.  Some Republicans have painted those who oppose the administration in this time of war are traitors/defeatists.  I am serving in this war and would suggest to you that your blind support for an inept and myopic administration doesn't serve us well.  But you can't see that can you?  You would gladly defend your party, while throwing away the long term needs of the nation.  Who needs Iraqi insurgents, I have you to worry about.
Did they put ol' Ted Kazinski's cabin up for sale on Ebay?
I think I know who bought it...
can you understand old soldier?Prob not with your head in the sand.
Take another drink of that high powered kool-aid there RH, it does'nt seem to be working for ya. "DELUSIONAL THINKING BY COMMON SENSE AMERICAN'S IS OVER"
"All we really have is political opportunism and the opinions of Sens. Charlie Schemer, Patrick Leaky and Dingy Harry Reid, people who I personally choose to disdain ....." ..... "Thanks for the opportunity to rant. "      >>>>>>>>>> think nothing of it - the thinking readers didn't.
Has anyone noticed that Cheney always looks like he smells something that stinks?
Old soldier - Unfortunately most of those are good points. And the mishandling of the war in Iraq is abominable. I do not agree with the premise of invasion of a country to avoid a forcasted danger. As a man on the ground how do you suggest we end this morass? Personally I'd rather have you here on our southern border. And every one of our National Guard at home with their families, now there is a broken contract.
As to my 'defense' it is aimed at the general spew of hatred targeted at 'my party'. I do not lump the majority of the Republican party with the sour cream that has risen to the top. Just as I don't equate the entire Democratic party with Nancy Pelosi and the 9th court of San Francisco.
Keep your head down, chin up and come home safe.
"I think you want one party and no opposition to your views. "

But, but, but, we have a majority.  We can do anything we want!!

Wrote this on another thread, but its appropriate here too.  Pelosi and Reid are two of the most divisive leaders this country has ever seen.  Bush virtually gave them a gimme with Immigration Reform, and Reid managed to mangle that up.

Reid and Pelosi are in a position of leadership.  It is their job to find a way to get legislation passed.  They are to be the compromisers.  Instead, they are the antagonists.  They are the ones that are never flexible in their positions.  They are in the back pockets of far left interest groups, and are not interested in any compromises.

Look at the recent Republican leaders in the House and Senate.  Dole, Lott, and Frist in the Senate.  How bland were those guys?  Yes they led the Senate as conservatives, but they never where as antagonistic as Reid has been.

In the House - Hastert - now there was a guy that looked and acted like an everyday "Joe". Conservative?  Sure.  But he left the "dirty work" to others, that way, he could work with the Democrats on things he needed to work with them on.

I've left someone off the list.  Gingrich.  Great party leader.  Sucked at SOTH because he was just like Pelosi - inflexible.  It worked for a while because Dole was able to moderate things a bit in the Senate, but then it all fell apart for Gingrich.  Pelsoi has no such advantage because Reid is every bit as loony as she is.

We see the results of Pelosi's and Reid's leadership.  Nothing is getting done.  The majorities the Democrats have are razor thin.  That thin margin makes it essential that the leaders of both parties are at least a little flexible.  It is really easy for the minority party to stick together against Reid and Pelosi though because they are so inflexible.

Watch for the Gingrich history to repeat itself.
