Rudy’s house call

Giuliani

laid out few specifics on an actual health care plan today in New Hampshire, and instead took shots at Democrats and Michael Moore on the topic.

"The American way is not single-payer, government-controlled anything," Giuliani said. "That’s a European way of doing something. That’s a, frankly, a Socialist way of doing something."

"If single-payer systems are cracking all over the world, why would we do it in America. Michael Moore wants to take you to Cuba for your health care. Anyone want to sign up? I didn’t think so. Maybe the Democrats will sign up."

He cited long wait times in Canada for even MRIs and took issue with the potential cost of Democratic-proposed universal health care plans. When pressed by a questioner on what steps he would take on health care, Giuliani said, first, he would "bring down the cost, so other people can afford it." Then, "give people a tax advantage to go buy individual insurance."

"We’ve got to bring down the cost of health care, and the government can’t possibly cover everybody," Giuliani said. "If the government covers everybody, the government will literally go bankrupt."

After the speech, Giuliani continued his criticism of European health care models. But he didn't pass up the chance for a shout out to one of his favorite European leaders -- French president Nicholas Sarkozy, a pro-America conservative who was touted by the New York Post as "a French Rudy" shortly after his recent election.

"I have this feeling that Sarkozy is on an airplane headed to the United States," the ex-New York mayor jokingly told reporters. "And Hillary, and Barack, and John Edwards are on an airplane headed to France!"

Some points of note:
--The Giuliani campaign still doesn’t quite get TV. During the first half of his speech, Giuliani continually wandered away from the microphone at the podium, making him inaudible to viewers. This criticism may seem trite -- and doesn’t “speak to the issues” -- but not getting this right undermines a campaign’s ability to get the candidate’s message out, and it makes the candidate look like an amateur. During the second half of his speech, Giuliani had the microphone in his hand, but for someone who is seemingly more comfortable at working a room and using his hands, shouldn’t he have a wireless?

--He was introduced with a country song.

--He thought Ronald Reagan was the most effective leader since Franklin Roosevelt.

--He said he can solve global warming in five to 15 years and would end illegal immigration in a year and a half to three years. “I give ourselves 18 month to three years to accomplish it,” he said.

This guy's motto is, "I'm a Divider not a Uniter."

I was just telling my friends that the US really needs to find new ways to alienate the world and isolate ourselves more.  Through isolation we can have deeper, more dangerous problems and no solutions.

Go Rudy Go!
So basically Rudy has no plans for healthcare, and would rather spend his time spreading lies and hate like the fear monger he is.
Rudy showed us his, Hillary??????????
Guess Rudy is famous enough he does not have to wait 3 months for a doctors appointment like the rest of us do.  So whatever plan is good enough for Rudy, he should make available to the rest of us.
In Canada it is the doctors office telling you that you have a wait - in the US it is the HMO trying to decide if you are worthy of the MRI or surgery recommended.  Which is best?  Neither.  At least the doctor wait is dictated by population.  The HMO wait is dictated to make sure the CEO's get a large bonus if you wait an extra month or two before they approve what you need.  I am kind of tired of the insurance companies "Doc in the box" (those guys who fail their specialty exams get to work for the insurance industry or in the ER instead of the field they studied for 7 years in) telling us what we need and when we need it.
It always amazes me when idiots solve social problems like healthcare costs by offering tax advantages to people. WAKE UP!!! The people can't afford healthcare because they don't have the income - so WHAT in the hell is a tax advantage going to do for them? Also, you're never going to reduce healthcare costs until 1)you stop lining the pockets of our political leaders(?) with the medical and big pharma bucks, then 2)enforce government controls, period.
More over reaching promises. "He said he can solve global warming in five to 15 years and would end illegal immigration in a year and a half to three years. “I give ourselves 18 month to three years to accomplish it,” he said."
How can you believe anybody that states he can solve global warming in five to fifteen years? Then he states he can solve immigration in 3 years. Guess it depends on the meaning of solve.  He is half way right about health care. If the US government runs it it will be a mess.  When he states “If single-payer systems are cracking all over the world, why would we do it in America”, why did he not say which ones are cracking and site specific examples. If is generally uesd when there may be a possibility of an occurance, not when an actual occurance has been documented. Guess it depends on the meaning of if.
GONZO-GATE IT JUST WILL NOT GO AWAY. HI RUDY !
Wow, a tax break for buying health insurance.  What a brilliant idea. Of course if you are a family of four on an income of $24,000 what good is a tax break if you can't even afford to buy the health insurance. Also what happens if after buying the insurance you are diagnosed with a catastrophic illness?  Want to bet that just as they find a loophole, your health insurance company will cancel your coverage?  What about people with pre-existing conditions such as MS or diabetes? Want to bet they can't get coverage at any price? Tax cuts to buy insurance sounds like another Republican politician in the pocket of the health care industry. Maybe national health care isn't the be all, end all solution, but it's better than what we already have.

Rudy is a dishonest greaseball.
To bolster the point made by Mr. Smith of K.C, MO, I am self-employed and have health insurance at $800 per month.  On July 2nd I expereinced slurred speech and went to the local urgent care facility who in turn sent me to a major hospital thirty miles away for an MRI.  A few days later I received a letter from the hospital teling me to pay them $7,000!  My insurance will cover $5,000 of it, but I still owe $2,000 which I don't have.  I haven't received the bills yet from the radiologist who read the MRI or the on-call surgeon.  I make a bit more than $24,000 a year, but now I'm looking at brain surgery at who knows what cost?  I don't want a tax break - I want to have access to decent health care without having to take out a second mortgage on my house and that is what I am facing right now. And if Mr. Guiliani is so opposed to socialism, I wonder what he thinks about the billion dollar gift to big agriculture that Congress is currently debating.  Or the Part D plan that dumps billions into the coffers of big pharma?  When will we have candidates that truly understand what we typical citizens deal with on a daily basis?
For once I wish Republicans would put aside their politics and seriously consider some of these health care proposals. I say Republicans because atleast the Democrats have been looking into wider HC for the past several years.
Typical republican.  Solve all problems with a tax cut.
Bruce you should send a message to Micheal Moore's website. He mentioned something about people in your situation should contact him, for what reasons I can't remember.
The real message here, as with all the GOP clones..i.e. not a shred of difference between any of them (except Ron Paul)  and George W. Bush, is stay the course on the abhorrent American "healthcare" scheme.  Once again, the voters in November 2008 are clearly faced with two alternatives, elect one of the GOP, and get a quasi 3rd term of George W. Bush, or elect the Democract and finally rid this Nation of George W. Bush, his failed domestic agenda, and his failed international agenda.  It could not be more clear.  To elect any of the viable Republicans is to virtually re-elect Bush/Cheney.  I can think of no worse fate for our Nation.
Wait until you get aload of Rudy's wife (#3), a Vanity Fair article does not do Rudy any favors. Younger Leona Hemsley (sic).
To REPEAT, US major corporations have already told Congress they are going to stop providing health care benefits in order to compete with the European and Asian corporations who don't have to because of universal health care.
Be wary of "socialist" healthcare horror stories, most are exaggerated or isloated occurrences. In countries with universal health care no one goes into bankruptcy, turned down for coverage, or treatment. There are enough different ways to provide health coverage being used in this world for our country to put together a workable plan from the best.
One other thing, our country can afford anything we truly want. We just need the will to do it and pay for it. Too many of us want the benefits from our government but do not want to pay for it and worse these same people are the ones who boot lick the rich and kick the poor. You know them, the compassionite "Christians" with their Hate List religion.
jerry/corpus christi texas / jerry brings up a point that many of you hillary supporters best take note of, because hillary's plan is going to look like rudy's, basically the wealthy get healthcare everyone else doesn't, edwards has a plan that will cover everyone without breaking anyone
IN socialist countries the NTBR toe tag is an absolute reality once you're 72 years old.
IN socialist countries the NTBR toe tag is an absolute reality once you're 72 years old.
Bruce, as CJ suggested, send your story to Michael Moore's website - I think it's Sicko.com. They have made big differences for people in your same situation. The repubs don't understand what it's like to have to make choices over what a limited income can provide. They shudder at a government run health program, yet they get their medical through a government plan - as do our veterans. Get well.
Rudy probably wishes he was Romney, then he could donate $5 million to his campaign AND pay for his own healthcare.  The rest of us need something better.
Most of the NYs finest cops and firemen hate Rudy. So, I agree with F StLouis. He's a lying greaseball.
Canada is building a wall on the US border.  The constant stream of illegal immigrants coming over from the US is putting a strain on their health care services.
If you contact Michael Moore about a health care issue you are having, he sends you two free tickets to his movie.
Work a day in the hlthcare field like I do and hear the nightmares like Bruce in Oregon who is self employed and has to get a second mortgage and/or file for bankrupcy along with millions of Americans. I am sick and tired of the neo-con's fearmongering, their complacency, greed and their enabling corporations to have record profits. Instead of name calling come up with solutions not stupid and archaic talking points. Lets stop being chumps to corporate America.
This is why this guy is, by far, the scariest candidate out there.  All he has is one punchline after another.  He has no plan...for anything.  He's glib and has nothing but sound bites.  He can fool a lot of people with his nonsense and we should pay attention.
It would be great if people like Bruce could worry about getting well...not worry about how to pay for it.
Sez Rudy: "The American way is not single-payer, government-controlled anything," Giuliani said. "That’s a European way of doing something. That’s a, frankly, a Socialist way of doing something."

And the American way is for millions of children going uninsured and people dying due to lack of medical care or being impoverished due to medical bills for catestrophic illnesses. But the American way of death is much better than the European way of paying for universal health care. Yeah, sure.

Paul Krugman had a good article on this Republican Death Cult: http://www.truthout.org/docs_2006/073007E.shtml

Rudy may not know it but no European country is socialist; they all have mixed economies with private corporations coexisting with public financing of some things. Only in America do we have politicians promoting the fantasy that unrestrained capitalism is the best of all possible systems. Of course, that is true if you happen to be a CEO getting paid the big bucks to rip off consumers and run companies into the ground.

Jimmy Breslin wrote recently that Giuliani "is a small man in search of a balcony." (Breslin must have been thinking of Mussolini, a corporatist like Giuliani with a fondness for striking heroic poses on balconies above the adoring crowds)
My co-worker, a Bush supporter, recently had to go to Canada because her husband was enroute to Alaska and had a heart attack in Canada.  She was very impressed with the level of care he received! She told me they were going to just let her leave without payment until she told them they weren't Canadian citizens. The ironic part is, after they got back home he made an appointment with his regular MD.  He waited less time to see a doctor in Canada than he did upon his return to the states.  He even said he was happier with the doctor from Canada.

I know this is an isolated incident, but it is my only contact with health care provided by another country; just thought it was interesting!
The best way to solve a problem is by denying its existence. We have been doing this since long and would keep on doing it. One thing never fails to amaze me but, how in the world do we manage to elect idiots to responsible positions?
Atleast Michael Moore is doing something to get the issue in the news. Many are suffering and I don't want to sit and wait to die because I can't afford care,  and I am sick because I am being poisoned by our products that are supposed to be safe. Now  I get very ill near shampoo, what's up with that. Why would they allow products on the market before testing for safety. Linda
Please tell me that this egotistical, mediocre, below average intelligence creep can never be elected President of anything, much less the United States.  We cannot survive 4-8 more years of an idiot.
Rudy sounds like Bush-lite,will Cheney be his Veep ?
Hey Rudy: is Medicare un-American?
Memo to Republicans: sure, the economy's good, until you have to go to the ER, or get cancer.
Also, your "socialized" health care, paid for by taxpayers, would be the single largest windfall for American corporations in history. And that's saying a lot.
PS to Houston: That Jimmy Breslin quote is priceless.
The reason it takes so long to get an MRI in Canada is the fact they don't have very many there. We have plenty of MRIs here. And I haven't heard anybody propose throwing away MRIs.
Ditto, a tax break is a ruse for the illusion of a solution. We're broke, so what good is a tax break? We want access to medical care, and we'll pay higher taxes up front to get it. Those taxes will certainly add up to LESS than a monthly policy with cash constantly going out-of-pocket for a high deductible. The private insurers are scared out of their wits. Their jig is just about up! What we see in Rudy is a guy just afraid to lose some big contributors. What a corrupt society we live in!
If you lived in NYC when Rudy was mayor, you knew he was a bully and a racist. I only hope the rest of the country realizes that he's no hero to us, and he is tempermentally unfit to be president.
Rudy Giulani is an automaton programmed with propaganda. He's not seriously debating health care. Using slogans like "that's socialism" is not helpful. After this election, let's hope that Giulanie goes back to giving speeches to the true believers and stays completely out of politics.
To BB and F St. Louis re. the "greaseball" comment: As an Italian-American who is decidedly anti-Giuliani, I really resent the ethnic slurs. He's dishonest, yes, but why must you involve his ethnicity? And a watered-down ethnicity at that?
Trouble with checking out of a Canadian hospital is that you can never find the cashier's office.

Hey Rudy I'll take you up on that offer for health care in Cuba. I have acute rheumatoid arthritis and I am self employed. I can't get health insurance in MY COUNTRY. So even if it's sub par it's better than I can get in the country where I pay taxes !!!!

Every one of you smug republican bastards should have to go a year without insurance, maybe with a nice (nonfatal) chronic condition that requires periodic and expensive hospital visits. Then we will come back and ask your opinion.
So Rudy hates the medical care for our soldiers and elderly?  It is socialized as is Firefighters, police, and Libraries.

Why does Rudy hate our soldiers?
same old republican crap! tax cut!
WAKE UP!!
There are no lines for MRIs in the US because a large fraction of the population cannot afford them.
This almost made me throw up. Everything that involves taking care of everyone is socialist to these republicans. Giuliani saying we cant afford to cover everyone just shows that he only cares for certain people. This guy has no chance at being president. Solve global warming in 5 to 15 years? Im sure itll take much longer than that. So if European countries are doing better than us who can take care of everyone, and we as the wealthiest country cannot, then how the hell are European countries able to do it. You see he completely contradicts himself. This article alone can wreck his campaign.
The US Health Care system IS too working - United Healthcare's CEO just pocketed $124 million while cutting benefits (I am a PT and they just cut my reimbursement by 75%). So see, it is working for the CEO's of the health care corps. Who else do they serve besides themselves and shareholders? The US health care system is a criminal enterprise that takes your money and gives it to their share holders and managers while delivering you NOTHING.
Canada is going to build a wall to keep people in the US from illegally entering their country.  It seems US illegals are clogging up the Canadian health care system.
"If the government covers everybody, the government will literally go bankrupt."

Giuliani and his minders must all be in a coma. The US is already bankrupt -- the dollar's corpse has yet to hit the ground. Real estate markets down? Ha, only the tip of the iceberg. Look deeper than financial analyst's or Paulson's whistling in the graveyard.

There's more of those "smartest guys in the room" trying to scramble out from under the Ponzi scheme house of cards. Before Christmas, health insurance will be the least of your problems.
As I read the comments above, it surprises me that most of the people commenting on the health care crisis are from Red States.  Could it be that people in RS finally acknowledge that HC is a MAJOR issue??? You people have a chance to redeam yourseleves in '08 by voting for the candidate that will solve the HCC.  Or are you guys ganna still vote only for the candidate who hates gay people the most????
What a moron. He doesn't have a clue how to get healthcare for people or apparently the desire.
