Fred comes up short?

From NBC’s Joel Seidman
The committee that former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson set up to “test the waters” for a likely presidential run, Nashville-based "Friends of Fred Thompson, Inc.," raised $3.46 million in its first month, from June 4th to June 30th, according to an Internal Revenue Service filing out today.

The amount -- reported as required by the IRS for the "527" political organization -- was less than the $5 million number that had been talked about by Thompson supporters.

GONZO-GATE IT JUST WILL NOT GO AWAY. HI FRED !
the great white hope needs green
Fred keeps saying the waters feel pretty warm-- now it seems that's because he's standing in the kiddie pool.
Good Lord, the man's a bad actor - what would make anyone with 1/4 of a brain think he'd be a good PRESIDENT?! And Southerners USUALLY get us deep in the sewer anyway - so we need YANKEE blood - not another son-of-the 'south'!
I don't really feel drawn to any of the candidates.  "NEXT"  -- is this pack really all we have to step up to the plate... sad sad day for us all.
Schwarzenegger should take notes. Or is it the other way around? C'mon, Fred, remain a reasonably respected TV icon; don't become a laughable loser. Neo-conservatism is about as funny as getting shot by a postman.
As a veteran journalist... I know that if you have to put a question mark in your headline... you either don't know what you are talking about or you don't have the attachments necessary to back up what you are talking about.

What this article fails to mention is that 3.46 million is far better than some of the other GOP candidates did during their "testing the waters" phase...

Giuliani's first month... $258,660
McCain's first month... $1,130,351
Thompson's first month... 3,450,000

It's one thing to give just the basic numbers in a story... perspective/comparison is not a requirement... but if you are going to take it upon yourself to use that headline; "Fred Comes Up Short?"... then perhaps a little perspective is a good thing. If you are implying Fred has some up short... show us? Short compared to what?

Oh... that's why you put in the $5 million figure "talked about by Thompson supporters." Oh really? I never heard any Thompson supporter say they would raise $5 million. Again... if you are going to use this figure... show us! It's called attribution... it's called credibility.

Also... keep in mind Fred didn't even start his major fundraising push (dinners, speeches etc) until July. And he only spend 625 k in June... so not counting what he raised in July... he's nearly 3 million in the black...

gonzo-gate
Fred was doing great...then he opened his mouth. Still it will be interesting to see him in a debate.
Joe Westerberg: This is MSNBC, home of Olberman and Matthews.  You want fairness, balance, and perspective?  Not happening here.  It's cheerleading for the Democrats and cut downs for the Republicans.

Freddy's campaign is still being directed by his child bride / Svengali: Jezebel 'Jeri' Thompson !!

Abandon all hope, Thompson enthusiasts.

Time to switch your support over to Homer Simpson.
He's on TV, too !!!
Fred is the next POTUS and you lefties can't stand it!
Fred who????????

Joe wester,,WHO???
Poor Freddy boy........and his job on law and order is gone. What will he do now?
I like when someone writes about the leanings of a news organization and then you read thier letter at a blog on that news organizations website and the person wasted thier time complaining .This is america spit it out, one of us will comment ,it might not be smart but im not dumb like they say mike ref to fredo, this is truly one of the greatest rights in this country FREE SPEECH use it.We from the other side can take the names we dish out fox is fox msnbc is what it is .
tanks:
Maybe we could re-elect George Bush !!!
He's lead us into the 'Golden Age', hasn't he ?
How about 4 more years !!
It'll give him time to invade Iran !!
Good showing by Thompson.
Fred for POTUS.
I think maybe they mean he's short in another area.
Smedes York-this network comes a lot closer than Fix Noise does. Bill Orally and Brit Hume? Fair and balanced? I think not. Moderates and Liberals have a home here, thank goodness
Fred getting a sex change operation?
I like how the guy named Joe from FredStates.com is complaining about "perspective."  Ironic.

Get a life, dude!  Your candidate is already toast; he's been running for all intensive purposes and can't raise cash.

Maybe if he wasn't so lazy he'd get in the race and share some ideas.
Bush Republican-Keep dreaming and stay anonomous.
Fred Flotsom

If Republicans nominate another actor......what a joke.  Don't Republicans throw actors and their ilk under the bus every chance they get......Unless they can vote for them.

What part of hypocrite don't they get?

Have Republicans ever thought that maybe they can't tell the real deal from the fake?
Tom says: "this network comes a lot closer than Fix Noise does. Bill Orally and Brit Hume? Fair and balanced?"

Isn't it interesting that a leading Democratic candidate will be a tough guy and talk with no conditions to Bashar al-Assad, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, and Kim Jong Il.

But he's too afraid to talk with Bret Hume?

I guess Fox should ask if the Democrats need some preconditions met before they come on Fox.  One precondition will certainly be "Ask us real easy questions like we get on CNN and MSNBC".

Must be naive or something.
why would anyonewant to go on Fox?Unless you are a part of that Bush administration you do not get a chance to answere a question---Hannity answers for you or cuts you off.And if you are sitting next to him he spits in your face in his excitement to prove his points of view------You can hear his mouth going in the background when Colmbs is doing an interview.I expect one of these days he will stab somebody with the pen he is always rolling in his fingers.
Wow... a lot of real substance in these comments... I only see 3 or 4 that even make sense... I'm afraid to say anything because I'm pretty sure I just stumbled into another MSNBC child predator sting operation... is anybody here over 14?
