Fred blogs -- on judges and witches

From NBC's Joel Seidman
Candidate-in-waiting Fred Thompson, in another online blog posting on issues close to conservatives' hearts and minds, has now invoked the spirit of an unusual and long-lost accused Salem witch. That witch -- who was caught up in the Salem witch hunt some 300 years ago -- just happens to be a relative of a current Bush judicial nominee who is having trouble getting through Patrick Leahy's Judiciary Committee.

In his blog on "Imwithfred.com," Thompson recalls Judge Leslie Southwick's relative, Rebecca Nurse, who was hanged July 19, 1692. Thompson says Southwick, "is suffering through a witch hunt of a more modern variety" The judge has been nominated to fill a long-standing vacancy on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. And Senate Democrats are trying to put the kibosh on Southwick.

Democrats question Southwick's civil- and human-rights record, which they say make him unfit for a lifetime appointment to the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit. Republicans have argued, however, that Southwick has an exemplary record and that Democrats are fabricating excuses to oppose him.

Thompson laments, "Judge Southwick is just the latest in a long line of nominees for that bench to be delayed." And he adds, "Judge Southwick's reward for being a qualified judge, and by all accounts a good citizen, is a Senatorial inquisition meant to besmirch his professional and personal reputation."

The more this big old fool talks, the less likely he will even be able to become a candidate.Mr. Windbag, go away!
I think the issue of judges is beginning to become corrupted by politics. The character of the congressional committee will be partial to judges that reflect the same. Just because benchmarks or qaulifications are met doesn't mean one should skip the nuances. Just as conservatives avoid the nomination or promotion of "liberal" judges.
repubs remember witch hunts JOE MACARTHY,those were the good old days ,accusing other americans of not being patriotic.Fred would like you to forget that the republicans hate witches and pagans so much its funny to have the religous right the ones who tried the witchs in salem start defending them.Did you think us witchs and warlocks would forget. You got the wrong ones a real whitch can float and resist fire unfortunatly you put to death innocents not witchs which given the chance im sure fred would go along with the crowd and BURN EM BURN EM fred loves a crowd
It's costing you and me $ 200,000.00 a minute to be in Iraq.
When will these right wing nuts learn you can't ever decide a case in favor of a white person, or against a gay.
When it comes to dealing with democrats, they are the best when it comes to besmirching.
Sounds like an appropriate time to point out that Democrats have blocked a dozen or two Bush appointees, Republicans blocked over 200 Clinton appointees.  Me thinks Fred protesteth too much.
"a Senatorial inquisition meant to besmirch his (Southwick) professional and personal reputation."  The judge is a republican nominated by Bush.  Most republicans that Bush is trying to advance appear to be liars and lack any judicial ethics (e.g. gonzales), and little if any social conscience (they're in it for themselves and to hell with anyone else).  Please keep this off the bench!!
Judge Leslie Southwick:
'The law is our friend, and those caught harming our friend will be beaten senseless.

Wasn't Ronnie Ray-Gun into astrology ??
patrick leahy: too bad the s.o.b. can't be impeached because of the technicalities of that process, but this arrogant, East Coast Obstructionist could certainly be recalled...or better yet, properly passed into the commode as one of the crenated, inspissated fecal stones obstructing good health, good reasoning, and effective government...
FRED ARE YOU LISTENING???
DECLARE, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, DECLARE.

'cause I will tell ya. You don't get more than a bumpersticker from me, until your actually in the ratrace.
Does anyone else find it odd that on two seperate occasions today, Republicans have quoted literary classics, Fred with his reference to Arthur Miller's The Crucible, and Jennings invoking Homer's The Odessy?  Perhaps it's code for "Abandon ship"!
Burn him.
Judge Southwick's strict views concerning his rejection of the application of the Americans with Disabilities Act to children in the context of the current federal requirements for the Individualized Education Progran (IEP)for children with bonafide disabilities perverts the judicial system.
The appointments of judges that wish to poke more holes in the ADA is just another warning of the current administration's disregard for children that were promised they would not be left behind.

How many more children must suffer and be punished for something they have no control over, before the ADA is properly applied to qualified people with disabilities under the law, including our all of our children?

Freds the man for USA. Witches are real.
Do they still burn witches at the stake?
Leslie Southwick is a political animal. Everything he does is political. It stands to reason that the Democrats are doing the right thing in blocking yet another intensely partisan Republican from an appellate circuit judgeship.
fred is d.o.a,

Fred you have to declare yourself as a candidate! You have my vote along with many other Democrats. You will get that money you need once you are an actual candidate.

Hey Fred...I'm convinced you're the last hope this country has to heal short of our Lord's return.  Run Fred, RUN!
In His Grip, Love is IT!

$200,000.00 for every minute we are in Iraq.
The question was,Do they still burn witches at the stake?
That is probably part of Mitt's campaign along with censorship and book burnings.

Hi guys, would you mind sharing with me why you support Fred Thompson? I've examined everything I can find about him and am just perplexed. What policies does he have that wins him your support?

This is an honest question and not a slam. I really would like to understand.

Thanks,

"Democrats question Southwick's civil- and human-rights record, which they say make him unfit for a lifetime appointment to the New Orleans-based 5th U.S. Circuit. Republicans have argued, however, that Southwick has an exemplary record"   ......couldn't have said it better, myself.
Independent, Texas--Welcome back.  Haven't seen any posts in a while.
Fred is a phony----where does he keep the hair he has on in Law and ordr?I do not want anyone that is old and senile to be my president.Havee had enough of cheney.
Better yet, tie Fred and Karl, Dick and George to  chairs and dunk them in the river until they fess up. Ooops, too bad!
Most of the unfortunate people convicted of witchcraft in this country were executed by hanging or pressed to death under stones.  My best friend's ancestor was condemned to hang by a jury that included one of my ancestors.  Her ancestor was a wealthy widow with a greedy son-in-law that couldn't wait to inherit his wife's property.  My ancestor was considered a fine, upstanding member of the church and community.  His writings are pompous and self-righteous....nah, I'm not gonna go there.
lesson that should have been learned -- keep religion out of politics.
