Differences -- Abortion right away

Posted: Sunday, August 05, 2007 9:01 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
DES MOINES -- Stephanopoulos went right at abortion. Brownback has been attacking his opponents with calls and mailers to potential voters in Iowa and ABC played his robo call accusing Romney of being pro-choice.

Romney responded saying, "Virtually nothing in that ad is true. ... I am pro-life and that's the truth." He described the ad as "desperate."

Stephanopoulos tried to intervene and get him to say precisely what is untrue in the ad.

"Virtually every part of that ad is inaccurate," Romney responded, adding the he has always opposed tax-funded abortions. "The ad is completely wrong."

Brownback said go on YouTube video to see Romney's 1994 comments during his Massachusetts Senate run.  "I was pro-choice, I am pro-life. I changed my position. When the first time a bill came to my desk, I came down on the side of life. I am getting tired of people are holier than thou because they've been pro-life longer than I have."

Romney is a horrible cantidate? We see he lies about what he says just like George Bush.Thank goodness we have tapes of all these guys.I think Romney had a macacca moment today.Denial denial denial
I wasn't pro choice... I didn't have sex with that women.  What a coward.  What a flip flopper
Is there any possibility that the GOP candidates will talk about something besides forcing women to continue unwanted pregnancies?
Give Romney a break!  I won't vote for him by any stretch of the imagination.  As I've gotten older, my views on abortion have changed.  No, I didn't flip flop...but any man or woman has the free will and right to change his/her mind.  Wasn't Hilary a Goldwater backer in the 1960s?

I believe former President Clinton said it best during his first run for president, when asked about his views on abortion.  He said (not an exact quote but it was a long time ago), "Just because I'm pro choice, [it] doesn't necessarily mean I'm pro abortion."  That in itself endeared me to the Clinton Camp for eight years.
Romney is your typical politician - say whatever will get you the votes.  One question that should be asked of every candidate in every party is this:  What amount of jail time do you think a woman should have if she has an abortion and it is illegal?

The answers would be interesting, to say the least.
There's something really smarmy about a guy who takes liberal positions to be elected governor of Massachusetts -- just so he'd have a political office to run for President from -- and then spends the whole primary season vilifying the very people he fooled into voting for him.  In Iowa and elsewhere now he talks as of Massachusetts voters as if they were Zulus and he were a 19th missionary who tried and failed to civilize them.  Do Republicans -- even those who hate Massachusetts -- really listen with sympathy when Mitt Romney runs down the people of his own adopted state, whom he promised to serve?
Robert Chapman: It was clinton toaddy Geo. Steph who brought up abortion, not the Repubs.

But funny, hey, how the GOPers will let Steph and Dem. Toady Chris Matthews moderate their debates whilst the Dems are afraid of Britt Hume.
