NYC...never THAT scary

Posted: Sunday, August 05, 2007 9:45 AM by Domenico Montanaro

From NBC's Domenico Montanaro
DES MOINES -- Giuliani actually said before he became mayor of New York, people were afraid to go outside, or even buy groceries. What?? I am a native New Yorker and can tell you, I was never afraid to buy groceries. True, crime went down under Giuliani, the subways became safer, but afraid to buy groceries? That's a stretch -- one Giuliani, I suppose, hopes middle America will buy.

Anyone even CONSIDERING voting for Giuliani should read this month's Harper's Magazine.

Excellent write up. This article said that he inherited an improved crime situation along with a vastly beefed up NYPD from his predecessor which helped continue to improve that situation.

If what this article says is true, G makes GW look almost capable and generous.

This guy is an opportunist of the 1st order. Also, examine the police behavior and how G responded to it. I think NYPD is great and support them 100%. However, in any group there will be rotten apples and how G handled these "apples" sure makes me want to prevent him from EVER holding national office.
Yes, crime went down. Giuliani took the prostitutes off the street, earning him the enmity of politicians, businessmen and preachers. The hookers adapted quickly and began working out of limos and vans.
also read Harpers---wow he is a genuine clone of Bushs.Did not know he had no money until after 9/11.That day was very lucrative for Rudy.Morals, family values?Has none.Loves George Bush and agrees with everything he has done.
I think he meant HE was afraid to go outside!
Meals of crow for all the Giuliani haters-just like those that hated Reagan & said he could never be President.  Reagan & Giuliani are polarizing figures because they really don't care whether you like them or not. This makes for great leaders.
Yeah, no kidding. Actually, the only reason Giuliani is said to have 'cleaned up' NYC is because he took all the money away from the Internal Affairs division of the police. Remember those cops sodomizing Abner Louima with a plunger and saying "It's Giuliani Time"? He brought a lot of things to the city, but none of them were good.
