Giuliani's daughter supports Obama?

Posted: Monday, August 06, 2007 1:35 PM by Mark Murray

From NBC's Mark Murray
Is Giuliani's daughter, Caroline, supporting Obama? From Slate: "According to the 17-year-old Caroline Giuliani's Facebook profile, she's supporting Barack Obama. On her profile, she designates her political views as 'liberal' and—until this morning—proclaimed her membership in the Facebook group 'Barack Obama (One Million Strong for Barack).' According to her profile, she withdrew from the Obama group at 6 a.m. Monday, after Slate sent her an inquiry about it."

More from the story: "It's not news that Rudy and his two children, Caroline and her 21-year-old brother Andrew, have a rocky relationship. Caroline and Andrew are the children of Donna Hanover, Rudy's second wife."

Here it is, just go to..hillaryclinton.com
I think Slate crossed the line with this one.  Children should be off limits regarding this campaign.
smart girl hehe.
This is getting confusing. Which Republican candidate had the cocaine distributor? And which had the guy soliciting BJs from undercover cops?

Rudy Giuliani - Worse Than Bush
I agree, Lynn. Leave the kids alone. If the child is is older and puts him or herself out on the campaign trail, speaking for the campaign, then that's different.
I don't see how any one with any morals could vote for a piece of trash like rudy, he is one of the most immoral people on the planet, if you're rich and want to get richer off the backs of the less fortunate  he's your man
I don't know about Slate crossing a line.  If Chelsea was a member of a pro-Giuliani group on facebook I think it would get covered.  If a candidates child makes a public statement that is relavent to politics I would call that fair game.  The real question is should it really matter if the man's daughter disagrees with his politics...
I too agree with Lyn and Paul. This should be off limits!!! Especially since she is still a minor!!! I would take a little less issue with this is she was the age of majority, but generally kids should be off limits.
What does she mean by "random play", or "whatever I can get"?  I think she's taking after her daddy.
I heard even Gulianis son hates him. What a hoot! Kids off limits? They should be but when Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton get hounded and made fun of for years, I guess the rules get changed when its a republicans kid. They SHOULD be off limits but- welcome to politics.
Also, I notice "poke her!" on the bottom left of the screen.  Dear God!  What does that mean?
Is Chelsea Clinton supporting Obama too ??
She alsways seemed pretty smart !!
We will accept are "reformed" republicans, who have come to their censes...hillaryclinton.com
John Doe: Its not who she supports. She is only 17. That is out of line. These liberal news outlets doesnt care what results as long as they punch republicans.
Who are the Bush daughters supporting for president? Inquiring minds want to know.
Rudy is a gangster. How will he work with anyone? He could not get along with three women and his own kids.
Even the fire fighters, that he bragged on hate him.
She is a freshman at Harvard.  If she's old (and smart) enough to go to school there then she is probably wise enough to select her favorite presidential candidate.

"Random play" and "Whatever I can get" are just "looking for" stati on facebook that are there for humorous reasons.
Stickim up ! Gonzo-Gate
Jcc - She's 17...give her a freakin' break.  No need to attack her character or morals...she's too young to really have either.
I'll bet at least one of his ex-wives supports Hillary, and his son supports Romney
If anyone is considering supporting Giuliani, I strongly suggest you read this month's Harper's Magazine. You will change your mind.
Why was Romney trying to wrestle 9/11 away from Rudy?Rudyass whole campaign is based on his heroics(lies) on 9/11----why do the firefighter dislike him so------they were there ----and did the heroics not Rudy---
Wow, married three times.  It's a good thing he's not a democrat because they're not allowed to be married any more than one time, less they get tarred by the virtuous   republicans, family values and all.  But if one of them repubs slips up, it's okay.  As long as he goes into rehab and makes amends with his God, tells him I have sinned, alcohol made me do it, it's okay.  Fool proof to the religious fools that buy it.  What a joke.  Our country slips ever closer day by day into the hypocrite hole of hell.
Would it throw in some perspective to point out that Ronald Reagan's son Ron did not support him. You should not expect children to be in lock step with their parents -- they are their own people.

I still want to know who the Bush girls are supporting. They have probably been told to say nothing.
Do the Bush twins even care about politics?  Do they even care about the fact that their father is President?  I find it strange that they are never around.  Chelsea was everywhere, even after she went off to college.  She came home, she traveled with her parents - she was involved.  The Bush twins have been pretty absentee since day one...except, of course, for those arrests for underage drinking.  Someone was saying like father, like daughter(s)?
Ok, fair enough leave children out of it...But what that &%^&#%^& Rush Limbaugh said about Chlesa Clinton back in 1995 (when she was all of 12 or 13) was deplorable, & disgusting & far far worse than this Giuliani flap.....

Anti-Caldwell Facebook groups...

While the Giuliani's daughter supports Obama bit was interesting, to be sure, the original Slate article also posts a screenshot of her facebook profile. I had questions about what kind of person would post a 17-year old's online profile on the website of an online news magazine.

The Slate article's author, Lucy Caldwell, used her status as a Harvard student to access the profile in question, as Giuliani's daughter is bound for Harvard this fall.

Conveniently enough, I am also a Harvard student, and in a quick search I came across not one but two anti-Caldwell Facebook groups. The first is entitled "Lucy Caldwell is an impediment to socio-economic diversity at Harvard" and the second is entitled "Students Against Caldwell's Crimson Opinions (SACCO)". The latter group's description is reproduced below:

This facebook group is taking a stand against many of Caldwell's editorials. It is not that all of her opinions or points are invalid, but that a few of them are so outrageous and hurtful that they are damaging. Oftentimes a thesis in one of these works is understandable and important to bring up, but key lines and points are not only against what we stand for, but against us as people.

We are against Caldwell's Crimson editorials, not Lucy Caldwell herself. We are sure she is a lovely person.

... Her profile was locked to searches. Too much hate mail, I suppose. Looks like Lucy Caldwell isn't terribly well liked anywhere she goes.
For all you Hillary fans: If She was not wanting to run for political office she woulda left Bill years ago. Aa marriage based on political convenience and not on true love is woth as much as a divorced............so she is essentially divorced as well, so Rudy v. Hillary --personal lives will be off the table.

With Giuliani's daughter supporting Obama, its not a big deal. She is 17 and can decide who she wants to support and honestly Obama has a lot of younger people interested and passionate about politics. She shouldnt be criticized for supporting someone other than her dad.
Now her facebook page says she left the group re: Obama, so please, media, leave her alone.
jcc: "What does she mean by "random play", or "whatever I can get"?"

on facebook on that question you have like 5 or 6 options, those are typical non-commitment and play-yourself-down selections.

By the way though, should we be surprised in her choice?  Obama is by far the most popular among her peers (people that age on facebook)
Fred - Awfully presumptuous, aren't you?  You don't know what the private, personal relationship between the Clintons is.  Why do you assume it is just for political convenience?  In case you didn't notice this in the last 15 years, Bill Clinton has incredible charisma.  Even most people who can't stand him can give him credit for his ability to communicate with and reach people.  You don't think he can do the same with Hillary?
"Seventeen"-Janis Ian
The fact that the girl is seventeen has nothing to do with it.  Seventeen is old enough where the person should be allowed their own opinions and, accordingly, should be prepared to accept the conseqences for those opinions.

I mean - the girl's 1 year away from voting age and she's going to Harvard.  She deserves at least as much respect as half the people writing in here.

And the media is not being malevolent here.  The fact that one of the presidential candidate's daughters supports another candidate over him is ENTIRELY relavant to the upcoming election.  Who knows him better than she does?  It finally gives insight to the candidate's true nature - something that politicians are usually trying to hide.  People often complain about media bias; well this is as unbiased as it gets.
I support Al Gore. I think I'll write him in myself when I go to vote.
This is hardly new.

Didn't Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter back Bush, announcing publicly that she preferred bush to dick?
according to lionel/ rudy's father was a mobster.he married his cousin, and would sneak his girlfriend in the house while married.that's OK with republicans.do as we say, not as we do.
