The Bush administration

NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell notes that advisers said Rove has been talking to President Bush about his possible resignation for "a long time, about a year." The view inside has been there has always been a "big project to work on and his strategic abilities and our need for his support kept him here." Advisers acknowledge there is "never a good time to leave, just the ‘right’ time."

VIDEO:  NBC's Kelly O'Donnell reports Top White House political adviser Karl Rove says that he will resign at the end of this month.

Rove tells O’Donnell that he does not plan to advise or work with GOP contenders or the eventual nominee, "I don't see taking a role in a 2008 presidential campaign." Rove has previously described himself as "a Bush man" when he said he did not have interest in assisting another Republican candidate.

Per the Wall Street Journal, which broke the story, Rove’s resignation will be effective August 31. “Mr. Rove … told [Wall Street Journal editorial page editor Paul] Gigot he first floated the idea of leaving a year ago. But he delayed his departure as, first, Democrats took Congress, and then as the White House tackled debates on immigration and Iraq, he said. He said he decided to leave after White House Chief of Staff Joshua Bolten told senior aides that if they stayed past Labor Day they would be obliged to remain through the end of the president's term in January 2009.”

More: “In the interview, Mr. Rove said he expects Democrats to give the 2008 presidential nomination to Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whom he described as ‘a tough, tenacious, fatally flawed candidate.’ He also said Republicans have ‘a very good chance’ to hold onto the White House in next year's elections.”

Rove’s resignation is bad news for Dick Cheney. Congressional Dems aren't going to stop investigating just because Rove's left. But without Rove in the White house, targeting Rove doesn't have the same cache. Look for Cheney now to get all of Congress' ire.

Rove isn’t the only current/former member of the Bush Administration getting attention. The Atlantic Monthly has a piece from former Bush speechwriter Matthew Scully, who accuses then-White House chief speechwriter Michael Gerson of taking credit for words he didn’t write. The Washington Post: “In Scully's account, Gerson did not come up with the language that made him famous. ‘Few lines of note were written by Mike,’ Scully says, ‘and none at all that come to mind from the post-9/11 addresses -- not even 'axis of evil.'"

By the way, with its stories on Rove and Gerson, this month’s Atlantic Monthly is quite an issue…

And remember Linda Chavez, who had to have her nomination for Labor secretary pulled after she admitted to paying an illegal immigrant for domestic services? Well, the Washington Post does an extensive examination of her political activities and discovers: “Chavez and her immediate family members have used phone banks and direct-mail solicitations to raise tens of millions of dollars, founding several political action committees with bankable names: the Republican Issues Committee, the Latino Alliance, Stop Union Political Abuse and the Pro-Life Campaign Committee. Their solicitations promise direct action in the ‘fight to save unborn lives,’ a vigorous struggle against ‘big labor bosses’ and a crippling of ‘liberal politics in the country.’ That's not where the bulk of the money wound up being spent, however. Of the $24.5 million raised by the PACs from January 2003 to December 2006, $242,000 -- or 1 percent -- was passed on to politicians, according to a Washington Post analysis of federal election reports. The PACs spent even less -- $151,236 -- on independent political activity, such as mailing pamphlets."

Our question: Is Chavez alone? Or are their other professional advocates that have a similar record of NOT using the money they've raised.

Good morning America ! Gonzo-Gate is not going to fade away. by..by..Karl
A departure long overdue.  This administration in the whole has done so much damage and Bush is by far the worst president the USA could ever have.
How much more satisfying it would be to read that the "architect" of the disasterous Bush administration was being hauled off to jail. I hope the American people make pact not to buy his book when it comes out and to boycott any TV shows that bring him on to plug it (are you listening MTP?)
Hey George ! Since Karl is leaving, I would like to apply for the position. I can be you "new" brain.
BuhBye - Take the shrub with you.
Mr. Rove is a horribly destrutive man who whispered his evil ideas and plans into our cognitively slow presidents ear and of course junior believed every word. This guy will certainly go straight to hell when his time comes.
Can't wait to see the crash and burn of this contemptable administration beginning in September.
And people wonder why I don't give any money to politicians either on my side or the other side?  Karl Rove did a great job, time to move on to the next project.  Maybe Hillary could use a good man like Karl Rove, since the liberal press is calling her the "female George Bush".

Karl Leaving? Ah poor DeMyopicRats. Well there is always the congressional hearings into Bush's lyme disease. What did he scratch and when did he scratch it? Leaky Leahy must know.
Song for Bush "Mama He's Crazy"-Judd Sisters
Alberto, George is on the line and he dosen't sound very happy.
z "Hey George ! Since Karl is leaving, I would like to apply for the position. I can be you "new" brain."

z, you must not have read the job description very well.  The job requires your IQ to be 150 or above.  You come in at around 40.  You should apply for work on the Democratic side of the aisle, you'd be way ahead of everyone else on that side.
Hey Jason Lee, thanks for your 2 cents. I know that's all you got.
The Republican Party is over. Thanks G.W. !
When I read such venomous comments from one American aimed at other Americans, left against right, right against left, I think, terrorists are not our biggest threat. Get a life, go for a hike, do something that makes you happy, and maybe you won't be quite so full of hate.
Now that more than 3700 americans in Iraq have died for no reason and the White House is unable and incapable of finding a solution to ending this american massacre, all of those responsible for orchestrating this war are leaving...what a bunch of cowards  ... so long Karl .... and Jerry thinks he did a good job ....
Of course Karl anf the Shurb have a HUGE problem the SECOND he is no longer in the White House Staff he is NO LONGER COVERED AT ALL BY EXCUTIVE PRIVLEGDE AND CAN AND WILL BE FORCED TO testify under OATH before Congress and Rove is a talker.
Didn't Karl Rove/Geo. Bush LOSE the 2000 election to Al Gore?

After 8 years of DEMOCRAT President Clinton, didn't the country elect ANOTHER Democrat?

Why yes, I believe so.
Karl Rove good riddance!
I think an IQ of 40 would be plenty high enough to be in the Bush Administration. Higher than most that are there I might add.
"DeMyopicRats".  Such a special little man, you are.
The kitchen keeps getting hotter!
Karl- Don't let the door hit you in the a**!
Is it true, Chaney has asked for Bush's resignation ?
So rove admits he is bush's man, is he comming out of the closet like the rest of the repubs?
Rove's departure will not necessarily remove the executive privilege cover.  Witness Harriet Meiers.  Then again, Dave, his departure will not render him exempt from further investigation and criminal convictions.
The few remaining defenders of the ultra corrupt bush administration have nothing left except to spit venom.
z "Hey Jason Lee, thanks for your 2 cents. I know that's all you got."

And we all know what the Democrats call people with that much money.  The Evil Rich.
Karl, will you work for minimum wage ?
Rove calling himself a 'Bushman' is an insult to all Australian aboriginees.
Rove's departure will not necessarily remove the executive privilege cover.  Witness Harriet Meiers.  Then again, Dave, his departure will not render him exempt from further investigation and criminal convictions. <<-- Joe Einloth

At least it will give Chuckie Schumer something to do.
Then the Democrats in congress can run next year on their minimum wage increase, and millions of pages of documents they produced from investigations in the last two years.
Wasn't Karl appointed by George H.W. Bush to after college "take George W. under his wing and show him how to lie and cheat his way to the top?"

Jerry it started with Ann Richards, and in Missouri in '97 there Bush was dubbed a empty suit, his destruction of John McCain chances, "then I'm not a Nation Builder", then I'm the "Decider", then the failed story of "Judy Miller of the NYTimes about WMDs," all those Emergncy Supplemental Spending bills for Iraq supporting  the troops, Gonzo, Libby,

I could feel sorry for George H.W. Bush except he knew that Karl Rove was the Master of "Dirty Tricks" as he fired Karl for a campaign leak years ago.  Then to see the Father crying at the testimonial of Jeb Bush in Florida knowning that Jeb had no chance at all of overcoming "Sonny Boys" mistakes to become President.

What a world this has been with the LIARS and cheats in charge.  Al Gore couldn't have done a worst job than George H.W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rove, Condoleezza Rice, Paul Wolfowitz, Richard Perle and "Sonny Boy George W." has done to the reputation of our American people.

Again jerry, Sept. 11, 2001 was planned, but not with al Quada. al Quada, it was a inside job for getting into the Middle East to control the oil reserves, protect Israel and a land grab that the US needed to supplement the lost of sand that Saudi Arabia had ask the US to leave.

The question now is how long are we committed to be in Iraq and will it be by any President to bail the US out or by a declaration of "Martial Law" by our Decider??  Think jerry and the rest of you that 3,684 lives lost just for a land grab in the Middle East.

We all have known that this should not have happened as we live in a totally different world.  Our Nation (USA) can not stop crime on our own land, so what makes them think that guns, missiles and other weapons can stop or produce Democracy in othe lands.

They only provide more fuel for our Corporation Corrupt Policies, that make the rich richer and the middle class sink in the troubles that this bogus "FUBAR" administration has brought in for our American" ways

Maybe Karl & Co. should have read that little 41 page book that was given to our Army in 1943 in Iraq showing how to win friends and influance people of other lands.  Surely Gen. Petraeus read that book, studied and practiced that book and had a easy time controling the people in Mosul in '03.  Why did it take so long for these "MORONS" to learn what Petraeus already knew. Too little to late.  Now they are waiting until Sept. 15, 2007 to see how his "Hail Mary Pass" is working.

How about another Supplemental War Spending bill of $139 Billion for the support of our troops that John Boener will shed tears for getting "Money for Supporting our Troops" in this cesspool, called Iraq.

Those in the Middle East should be laughing at the large amount of money that is being wasted, just like Ronnie Reagan outspent and mortaged our country to defeat the Soviet Union in the "Cold War"

BTW; Duncan Hunter, big supporter of the war, came in 9th is the straw pole in Iowa. Tommy Thompson dropped out, "Smart".  The "Carpet Bagger" came in 1st, shows how some people can flip as soon as they see a better chance or opportunity.

Anyhow: Rove is going, now Pat Leahy will put pressure on "ZONZO".  What goes around eventually comes around. This time the courts should waive Excutive priviledge and force them all to explain just what damage they have done to the "Real American people".  Yes we will recover and maybe the world will forgive the termoil that these people caused.

One who has made money off this unilateral illegal invasion is the Defense Industry. Maybe now we can consentrate on the Americans problems,

I say that hopefully.
Did anyone notice that Daves posts almost always come right after Jerrys. Remarkable! They both must be psychic.
No smoking Gun Joe. Only thing we have is what DemyopicRats "believe" All the talk from DeMyopicRats about preemptive strikes, now it's going to be years getting out of Iraq, signing off on wiretapping what they "believe" doesn't amount to chit. They "believe" whatever the polls tell them to "believe". The only thing they really "believe" is that they should be in power. Everything else is up for grabs.
Can't see it. Rove is jumping ship, with good reason. Bush is enforcing the border again, how many times this year? Romney is going down to the border for a photo op, and the New Jersey murder suspect was released on $150,000 bail. ( Known illegal alien with priors including charged with raping a five year old ) The students were sexually molested before they pushed to their knees and shot in the back of the head. Yes, the district attorney let him go.
"Dust in the Wind" by Kansas
gee, what a surprise...faux news, I mean the wall street journal broke the news.  shrub's second term reminds me of a sinking ship and all the ballast is being thrown overboard to keep it afloat.  jason lee/jerry (same person), did you hear about the dem who became a repub?  increased the IQ on both sides of the aisle!
Joe Einloth [[Rove's departure will not necessarily remove the executive privilege cover.  Witness Harriet Meiers.  Then again, Dave, his departure will not render him exempt from further investigation and criminal convictions.]]

Maybe on his way out of office, Bush will give Rove  a pardon in advance for any crimes he may have committed. That's what Jerry Ford did for Tricky Dick Nixon.
George, where is my gold watch ? What do you mean we spent all our money on Iraq ?
Bob, Typical Massachusetts style assumptions (started back with JFK getting killed in 63).  Inside job on 9-11?  George Bush has been blamed for every inside job since he was elected.  We all know the TRUE story of 9-11, so we don't need to debate your LSD style of how George Bush flew the planes into the towers (ala Randi Rhodes).  If people think he flew the planes into the building, he is more man then i give him credit for.  Walking out of the ruins to lead our nation to greatness.  Since you have no proof (only theories thought out by Michael Moore and his Kool aid drinking acid dropping zanies), we'll skip the land grab issues.  Martial Law?????  LOL, that is way too much to even suggest.  Maybe in Massachusetts, where they can't even dig a tunnel without killing someone, and people can't drive over a bridge without killing themselves, maybe that is where martial law is needed.  Bob, keep reading those weird, but true stories in the globe, it is good fo a laugh.  Susan, great minds often think togather.  How do you feel now about Hillary Clinton being compared to President Bush?
The garbage truck is out back of the White House, any more trash ?
dave-tn,
what you list as things the dems "believe" were not just based on the polls.  "Preemptive strike" is another term for "let's start a war"; when in the US history have we started a war?  Aside from the Civil War, when did we start a war?  If we have, it is covered up by the dust of history, which we have forgotten. As for the wiretapping issue, we already had FISA in place; this admin has been too damn lazy to comply with the post-72 hour requirement...or they did not want FISA to know they were spying on American citizens (same paranoia as Nixon?).  so, if you support those two issues, then it becomes easy to say the repugs are the ones who hate America.
I hope the state of Texas can build a decent shuttle one of these days. Pretty scary.

I hope the state of Texas can build a decent shuttle one of these days. Pretty scary.

The space shuttle isn't the problem.  It's the external tank.  The tank is built by Lockheed Martin in New Orleans.  Two problems with it - 1) things fall off of it and 2) it's next to, and not behind, the shuttle during launch.

Both shuttle crashes were the result of faults with the external tank, and with the solid rocket boosters.  The shuttle has performed exceptionally well.
Bush administration-mendacity
Laura

The garbage truck is out back of the White House, any more trash ?

Bush's people are still cleaning it out from when Clinton was there.  That smell sticks.
The pumper truck is tending the cesspool at the White House.  An ambulance was called as both workers were overcome by the stench. Both are not expected to recover.  End of news report.
