Rudy’s immigration shift?

In his continuing shift right, Giuliani is up today with a 60-second, hard-line immigration radio ad in Iowa and New Hampshire called “Fence.” In the ad, he says illegal immigration “frustrates” him and he drew on his experience as mayor of New York -- again. He criticizes the U.S. Immigration Service, who he says he tried to work with as mayor of New York.

“It makes no sense,” Giuliani says of the immigration service’s deportation priorities. “After they have been in jail for selling drugs in the United States -- we now have to keep them in the United States. They [the immigration service] couldn’t do it [deport them], because they had other people lined up to throw out. They had like a professor who over-stayed his visa. I had a drug dealer who had maybe killed people.”

Last week, Romney accused Giuliani of having run a “sanctuary city” for illegal immigrants as mayor of New York. This week, the New York newspapers challenged Giuliani’s hard-line immigration credibility. Today, the New York Post wrote, “Critics said Giuliani's get-tough plan contrasts with his actions as mayor, when he actually filed a lawsuit to protect the identity of illegal aliens receiving city services.” Yesterday, the New York Daily News said as mayor Giuliani was “considered one of the most immigrant-friendly government executives in the nation -- in both word and deed.”

The Daily News pulled a quote from Giuliani who said in 1994, “’Some of the hardest-working and most productive people in this city are undocumented aliens. If you come here, and you work hard and you happen to be in an undocumented status, you're one of the people who we want in this city."

Here’s the full transcript:

“Fence” (Radio 60 seconds):
NARRATOR: “Here’s Rudy Giuliani”

GIULIANI: “It frustrates me that if someone comes here illegally, in addition to everything else that’s involved in that, if they commit a crime, we don’t throw them out of the country.  As the mayor of New York I wanted to see if I could get the Immigration Service to help me. Let’s see if you could get rid of the drug dealers who are coming out of jail. It makes no sense -- after they have been in jail for selling drugs in the United States -- we now have to keep them in the United States. They couldn’t do it because they had other people lined up to throw out. They had like a professor who over-stayed his visa. I had a drug dealer who had maybe killed people. A person who comes here illegally and commits a crime should be thrown out of the country. People that come in illegally we gotta stop. You stop illegal immigration by building a fence, a physical fence and then a technological fence. You then hire enough Border Patrol so they can respond in a timely way. And then, if anybody becomes a citizen, we should make certain that they can read English, write English and speak English, because this is an English speaking country.”

NARRATOR:  “Paid for by Rudy Giuliani Presidential Committee Incorporated. Visit joinrudy2008.com.”

GIULIANI:
“I’m Rudy Giuliani and I approve this message.”

he is just stupid cause on one says nothing when the u.s. allows pepole to come into the u.s. if there counrty is at war. just beause a counrty is not at war does not mean people are doing wrong when all they are trying to do is give their family a better life.
Yowza, if a presidential candidate thinks immigration and deportation is clear and easy, maybe he can better articulate himself.  He believes a citizen needs to know English because this is an English speaking country?  Thats odd--I have interacted with many Spanish speaking people in the USA.
The generalities are very overdone in his 'Fence' message.
>> A transvestite for our next president?I think not. <<

Why do you think Hillary won't win?

Fences or no fences, it will not change anything. Legalize people who has a clean background and let them work. The country needs to move on. We are wasting out time and money and the solution is simple
Amnesty is the solution.
Now, take back the troops from Iraq if you want to still have an army. You lost the war...I mean the invasion. We are in debt, the Market is crashing etc..And people are loosing their home. Good results from the Republicans.
There is nothing to save in the US, just let's try to protect ourself
Situation is simple and you want to complicate everything. Big enterprises will go abroad...Is that what you want. I suppose yes, because you are doing everything to discourage investment. Weak dollar! Weak economy and weak country
Period!
rudy still sounds too much like bush on illegal aliens; he is for amnesty for most of 12-20 million illegals...american citizen taxpayers cannot afford that. 64,000 anchor babies born to illegals in harris county texas cost houston tax payers/property owners 240 million dollars in 2006 !!! put military on border...the puny 6,000 guardsmen helped; but 30-40,000 needed!!! ( get them from germany and n. korea ) or better yet bring our national guard home to do its job as "national=our national guard" !!! build the fence "now"...if they cannot get in to begin with then they cannot negatively effect our economy and populace. bill/minuteman  500,000 illegals is low estimate in houston tx.
COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Under his immigration plan, Rudy Giuliani would allow most of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants in this country to stay, work and even become citizens -- provisions that GOP hardliners blast as "amnesty."

Giuliani is right! The only way to know who is in this country is to legalise them. Or we will have more gangs in the streets.

With our bad economy , weak dollar etc... We cannot attract foreing investors.

Investors want to make money and not to lose money. In the US we will loose money. Nothink woek! Housing is down, and the cost of life is way too much expensive.

If you penalize the industries, they will go abroad.
If you do not accept illegals, we will loose money by a lack of workmanship.

America, it's time to move..I hope it's not too late. But in my opinion is too late. Wars, debts, bad economy etc...What is the solution?

Giuliani is right
We wasted too much time on a little problem of immigration. THis country is going down and it's time to wake..If it's not too late
Forget investors. Dollars is too weak and economy is bad. Who want to invest in a country in debt with wars as a bonus?
Rudy is finally on board.  This sews up the nomination.  He now has the last support from any wavering conservatives.  Electoral math says all he has to do is pick up one moderate Blue STate to win - PA, WA, OR, CA,...NY.  Look at the map. Hillary can't pick up any RED state.  No one likes her.  ABC - anyone But Clinton  Spread the word.
Chris, another insecure man, another woman hater. What a surprise.
We hear so often that they are illegal and we are for rule of law.Natzis said that jews were bad for german society and they were rounded up.What followed we all know.Yet after war Natzis claimed they acted legally according to german law by killing jews.Legality is tricky term.Is somebody doing something legal can be wrong and unjust?Virtually anybody coming here for centuries were allowed to stay unless sick or insane.American Revolution was techniclly an illegal act against british rule.
Fact that milions of people are in prisons tells me that we are not that sqeeky clean when it comes to legality.Legal immigration is for families (chain migration)or rich people only. All the others are forced to cross border or overstay visas. Employers hire unauthorized workers get richer, live american dream have house in suburbs, spend money, economy gets better we all better for it.Send immigrants home en masse you will get great depresion send them slowly you will get recession over long period of time.Losing taxpayers that dont collect refunds or get social security while paying to the system is the best deal any country can have. That is why congress wont legalize them. That a cash cow for federal government and only a small burden for states(health care and education)If unathorized worker has health insurance and not too many kids in public school he is a cash cow for state.
Instead of spending money on foreign aid let them stay, work, pay taxes,we can save social security and housing market that way.
Where is american pragmatism. We need to think what we say not say what we fell.Countries with with higher immigration, legal or not do better and everybody gets richer even low skill workers. We have natural fear of outsiders especially when they look differentand they react by sticking together and not accepting us.Its time to break vicious circle.Lets not look at numbers that unfunded liabilities will cost trilions of dollars. It is highly hipotetical.Exactly the same scary tactics were used against irish and italians back in the days.Lets look at the fact that without illegal immigrants paying to social security fund system would collapse as of today. So if you ss reciepent and if you are for sending those folks home think twice. We have a islamic enemy and we should do anything to make as stronger in that fight. What we do instead?we try to give weapons to saudi arabia and fight illegal residents when 75 % ot the pays taxes like every citizen and all of them pay sales taxes they rent and buy cars supporting economy. They are less likely to commit crimes or use public services, yet if one of them commits crime it all over news for weeks.Dont listen to talk show hosts. They are on tv for milions od dollars they make, and they make up numbers and twist the facts. They are not jurnalist looking for thruth, they natzi agitators who care the about ratings.
G / real intelligent post, don't look now but your penis envy is showing, grow up, the 80's are over
MK, I'm noticing a real super sensitivity about gender issues. Why did you even have to respond? Why protect Chris?
Mk just shut up and quit being so damned insecure.
"Republicans leaders really do not want to stop illegal immigration because of the cost and the democrats see every immigrant as a potential vote."

illegal immgts. cant vote
SIC EM RUDY!!!!!!
go, Rudy Go! You nailed it regarding immigration, now all that is needed is the follow-up.
rudy talks out of both sides of his mouth --
